Hi!
I updated my HTC desire GSM from 7.1 stable to 7.2 RC2. It works fine, fast, no more WiFi bug, but I have a few questions.
-Should I use stock kernel?
-My friend has a wildfire S, he told me tha the had been able to put an update for the Adreno graphics, and got like a 200-300 benchmark point increase. Is there something like this available for the HTC Desire?
-I would like to know what you guys use as tweak, like CPU performance profil (ondemande, min/max).
Thanks
Can anyone explain to me why benchmark scores matter so much? I've never been a fan of benchmark scores. If its fast for you, then it IS fast for you. Some get high benchmark scores but the rom lags like hell. Would the benchmark score make you believe it IS a fast rom although it lags?
The only tweak I do with CM is use ManU kernel. No overclocking and all that bull. Default governor.

Hi and thanks for your reply.
Benchmarking is not something I need, having the highest. I just like to optimise to the maximum
What difference have you seen between the stock kernel and ManU kernel?
Thanks
the new adreno-libs are more important on ICS (e.g CM9) because the UI of ICS is gpu-accelereated. On CM7.2 there is know real advantage, the UI won't run any smoother or faster. Maybe Angry Birds is running faster, but who cares

The maximum benchmark scores doesn't equate to an optimum device.
Check the kernel out. The thread for the kernel is on the Development Section. Just to a search. I get better battery life with it than the stock kernel on CM7.
Thanks guys! I'll search on it !
By the way, is there a way to backup the original kernel? or I need to reflash the 7.2 RC2 over to get it back?

You can just reflash the rom or just to a nandbackup via recovery before testing the kernel. Do a nandrestore if you dont like it.
Okay that sounds good. Thanks, I'll give a try
Install ADW EX launcher for replacement, and ManU kernel you will see what is smooth and fast

I am currently using MIUI 1.7.29 Osimood with the Tiamat 1.04 kernel, and I am wondering what the best kernel is for battery life. I am also using the V6 supercharger ram script. I am running my CPU at 960mHz at the moment, using the smartass governer. I also undervolted using vipermod, 960MHz at 950mV.
My choice consists of the latest Pershoot, UmaroKernel 1.06 or Tiamat 1.04
What differences would I see between those kernels, are they noticeable for a regular user?
Sorry man, but wehre do you find the vipermod for desire z? http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/faq.php it's not compatibile with desire z/g2....
Uh...what's wrong with the kernel it comes with? Can OC to 1.5GHz stock ya know. Battery life is great with it too. People always want to flash something weather it be a radio or a kernel.

damn straight,
1) pershoot is a sense kernel? (i am proabably wrong but i have never tried this kernel)
2) umaro kernel i found had issues with wifi, high underclock freq (leading to poorer battery life), but fun if you have the time to tweak voltages and fast!
3) tiamat kernel i found had issues with sleep of death/random reboots on wakeup couldnt test it past that. (setcpu was set to screen off was: conservative 125min -345 max and would still crash)
if you are up for another kernel, i am now using this kernel (streamline5)
no voltage tweaking (pretweaked) but it has good batt, speedy and stable cant ask for much

Pershoot is actually for non-sense roms. The downfall people have with it is lack of governors. Some don't mind, some want variety. I've had great experiences with Pershoot's kernel and it's the baseline that all others are compared to (not to mention the foundation of almost ALL G2/DZ kernels).
Umaro's just needs to have voltage tweaks done manually but on the plus side - keeping the voltages normal (not UV) allows some people to reach higher OC speeds. It keeps the processor from bottoming out due to insufficient voltage which can easily happen when you UV. The main issue is with the Greased lightening governor - it's new and still a bit buggy.
Tiamat 1.0.4 is outstanding. I can sit all day at 2+ GHz (not literally, see: Chernobyl). I personally have an issue with the interactive governor but other than that it's my favorite kernel (Umaro may take that soon, once greased lightening is perfected).
Basically you just need to try out a few and see which you like. There is no 'best'. Most kernels will work with any ROM (Sense being the only exception).
Bumping a thread that is relevant to my interests.
It's about time for me to jump ship from an outdated CM ROM and try something new like a MIUI ROM.
With that said, I'd like to read more opinions & experiences from people using the various Kernels AND how the latest radio (the one released today) is working for them. I'm just trying to get the optimal experience here
Speaking of MIUI would anyone mind telling me some differences between OsiMood's ROM compared to the official MIUI-US ROM (or even DarkSpadez ROM)?
Thanks a ton guys!
I downloaded the official rom . . .then ignored it downloaded osimood and iv been using it since. Osimood is a lighter rom, which is always a good thing, unwanted languages etc are removed for a smaller faster rom. Also he preinstalls tweaks like an adblocker and extended settings mod.
Kernal wise iv been looking for the same info as you but couldn't find it. So I eneded up trying them all:
- Eugenes streamline5 is a nice kernal, preundervolted. Only probly is its not being updated so will become redundant.
-Tiamats kernal allows over clock to 2ghz and seems to support higher overclocks stably where other kernals can't. Except battery life has decreased with recent kernals
-Umarokernal this is the kernal iv come back to twice and am still on. It allows overclock to 1.9ghz and is kept updated by umaro. Performance per frequency seems as good if not better than most and osimoods miui runs smooth with this kernal on 800ghz with scarey governer (which saves battery) Another plus for me with this kernal is the scarey governer which for me definatly provides the best performance per battery ratio.
I'm currently running MIUI 1.8.5 with Eugene-Streamline 5 Kernel with the latest radio update Vision_Radio_12.57.60.25_26.10.04.12.
SetCPU with Governor ondemand provides me with better usage, power and responsive time then Smartass or Interactive.
OC to 1.2ghz
Battery life, about 30hrs with the regular 1350mah.

Its basically like an automatic setcpu (which can't be changed on the fly) built into the rom, its in virtuous unity roms
What sleep profiles are you guys usein. I seem to have rebooting issues with any kernel I try unless I go to a sense rom. I've tried the vipermod now to see how it goes

But how do you get the virtuos O/C daemon to work on MIUI?
You can download it threw rom manager. Even with that kernel I get reboot issues. I assume its cause system ram isn't being cleard fast enough. I'm gonna try 100mv increase to see if there's a difference.

The general speed of scrolling has improved. The whole UI seems much smoother.. I didnt run any benchmarks yet, but will do so shortly..
The original thread about that tweak is dead. No update anymore. probably some script doesn't effect with a new ROMs.

I think it had more to do with the OP's account being disabled rather than the tweak not working on new roms...
This is the score i got. Max freq:600 Mhz Min freq: 200 Mhz. Governor: smartass v2. And i must say i have a crappy class 2 sd card..
nice result. What ROM are you using? You can set the 806Mhz processor and check the result?
it's not work for me, i have the same result without thi mod..

Agree, it would be useful to give before and after results and info n which Rom
Sent from my HTC Desire C
it is not work. I have with and without this mod the same score - something like 1966 in atuntu.
Wihout the tweaks:
787 MHz max - 245 Mhz min Governer= Scary
32GB class 10
SD Booster - 2048
BEATSenseless rom (android 2.3.5)
With de Tweaks:
787 MHz max - 245 Mhz min Governer= Scary
32GB class 10
SD Booster = 2048
BEATSenseless rom (android 2.3.5)
For me is works, but for how long....i hope for a while...
we shall see
Thanks for the tweaks
I think we can all agree that there's no development in this thread. You should probably report this and have it moved.
Edit: also, I this gives a 50 point boost in antutu. But you just can't feel ll it

Hey,
build.prop tweaks aren't exactly meant to improve your performance scores, rather than to improve the general usability. These tweaks dont necessarily boost your benchmarks. If you see an increase in benchmarks, then great! But the effect it has, has to be felt rather than seen!!

Yes, i think it is.
And we are likely to get higher scores in GB than in ICS, because GB is fully optimised for our devices, while ICS is sort of modded to work.. (no offence to the great devs who made porting ICS possible in the first place!)
I belive thse are just bunch of init.d tweaks so any rom that supports init.d should work. In terms of scores you wont see any significant changes. This doesnt iprove your ram work or your gpu and cpu speed. You will however see overall improvement on stock roms and not neceserly on moded ROMs as they alrady have their own tweaks.
It worked !!!!

I wouldnt say that there was a huge difference in the performance but yeah, the scrolling speed, a small glitch in the graphic interface sometimes when some heavy was in background etc did reduce to nill.......

Hi everyone, my girlfriend has a Galaxy Gio and I just convinced her into installing a Custom Rom. Now, the problem is that I don't know wether it performs well with skype because we use that a lot. I am thinking of installing CM7 because of the customization possibilities. I hope there is someone who has already installed it and who can tell me it's bugs and how it performs on Gio. I am interested in battery life as well and I would like to know if you had SOD with it. But the skype part is really important. Thank you for your responses, have a nice day!
Use phiexz CM 7.2 rom, it has no bugs and its very fast & stable, i use it myself, i also have skype on it and it runs good without any bugs.

I have been using that for a while... and battery does not drain.
I think he's testing/optimizing his ''cloudfare'' so his site can be reached while its offline, but having the download center mirror.phiexz.com or something would be nice when the site is online, but its says welcome new user and when you close the message it comes up again, not that you could download from a server that is down
its good he's doing maintenaince, atleast you know his site isn't a ''dead end'' , he's working on it.

Yes there is a good way for improving the battery live, when you are not using the phone, go to Cyanogenmod Settings - Performance - CPU Settings then put Min CPU to 122 and Max CPU to 320, then put the governor to POWERSAVE. Then when you use your phone put everything to normal.

powersave uses almost 100% the lowest minimum frequency, so setting 122-600 should be good
i've heard some people can OC their GIO to 921MHz stable, but on my gio it can't even get stable on 883Mhz. on 864MHz is somewhat stable but i still get hung or FC randomly, im super stable at 844MHz.
Why does my phone can't be OC like them other guys?

Why not stop overclocking ? Just find a very fast rom and then you can save the overclocking , hence the instability and hotness and draining battery. That way you will have longer life on your Gio.
L.E. : just change the minimum frequency to 245 and refrain from using roms that are heavy right now , like CM 10.1 , try anything based on gingerbread like Adrenaline or Enhanced 2.3.6 or DebianDroid for example , or AOSP ICS wich i find very fast.

well currently im using AOKP milestone 6 CM9 based, i use conservative governor 245-844MHz, installed adrenaline engine 4.4, and pim my rom and set my OOM and LMK to medium settings. battery is drained only when im using data or playing games obviously. actually this ROM is superb for me performance wise, its just, i feel like i can squeeze a bit more of it for playing games you know. its like i see this slight lagging and i thought if only i could use a little more CPU power, the lag will be gone
Even you can overclock a 1st gen AMD Duron to 2Ghz with liquid nitrogen, it just doesn't make sense doing it
AW: [Q] OC problem
i can oc my cpu to 960mhz but i think it makes no sense... you don't feel the extra speed in normal use only in benchmarks... my cpu is set to 480mhz because it's enough for every app i am using (facebook, whatsapp, xda, browser and so on).
How about the kernel? What's a good performance kernel? or do I even need one? There's a guy in this forum who has managed to boost his Samsung GT-I8150's fps to 20! now how in the world did he do that? my current fps is max at 6fps(antutu benchmark) with only basic apps installed and most unneeded running apps forced-stop. i know there's so much can be done on this phone since its..ehh..a low specs device bt isnt Android(linux based) is all about reviving the dead? lol

Im running CM10.2 currently. So far, so good, even though theres bugs still present. As far as I know, there aren't any CM10.2 kernel for the W so you're stuck with the stock kernel that comes with the ROM itself. Im thinking that the guy who managed to somehow "boost" his device is probably running GB i mean its rock stable.
I made my SGW by flashing PurePerfomanceX® Tweaks and also uninstalling stupid useless system app like CM updater and LWPs. Also, since there's no other custom kernel for 4.3 (like i mentioned) I tweaked the Interactive governor from the guys at the GNexus forum and switched my I/O scheduler to deadline. Again, its pretty smooth although the only thing that I find irritating is the stutters i find when scrolling some super heavy apps but obv, this aint a Nexus 5 soo bare with the lags. Some additions i did was installing Seeder and LagFix (can be found at GPlayStore)

Woah man thanks alot on recomending the PurePerfomanceX® Tweaks! what a difference it makes lol and do i need to install those seeders&lagfix? im not a gamer so yeah are they really necessary? one other thing, how do i get the SmartassV2 governor? doesnt pureperformancex script includes that aswell? and finally(i promise! lol) do any of these tweaks help in conserving battery? prior to this, the battery was draining like mad it could be the condition of battery since ive had this phone for almost 2years now. before i go out and get new battery maybe if there was a tweak that could help reviving this old fella would be super. buying new phone is out of the question for the time being since i lost my samsung note3 2weeks ago..sigh sad life.
anyway thanks alot brother for the kind help
