Mobile Odin - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey just a quick question, can i use mobile Odin to Odin back to sfhub's el29 and are there any side effects,i can't get to my computer right now to use the one clicks and this fe16 build is eating my battery like a fat man at an all you can eat!

What you can do is Odin the el26 with cwm kernal and boot into recovery before it tries to load the rom. From there just wipe everything including cache and dalvik cache and flash your rom and you're good to go.

You can. You'd have to extract the exe from the 7zip file and place that on to your SD card. Sfhub has directions on how to do it in his post. I have done this more than a few times.
However there have been some recent posts about even Mobile Odin bricking phones. I don't know your current ROM, Kernel or setup. But me not being able to go with out a phone for a few days is going to keep me using PC Odin for reverting back to a GB ROM/Kernel.
Also I'm not sure what why your battery consumption is so high on FE16 either. Mine and many others here have had good battery life even with heavy use. You may consider re-flashing the 'Reset Data' option to clear up your system and then maybe try another ROM with battery tweaks in mind.

I did the reset option when i flashed this build, have no clue why the battery is dying either.but with your guys replies i think i well wait till i get to my PC don't want a brick

yeah basically each rom has it's own specific kernel that has to be used when you are on that rom. SO if you want to go back to an other kernel make sure that the rom doesn't load after flashing that kernel it will die. Right now there are really not to many options to change to when on a specific rom like ICS.
Flash kernel phone will reboot, as soon as it turns off do three button combo and go into recovery. Flash calkilins format all and then flash the rom again and see what you get the next time.

srf 1.2 issues

I flashed srf 1.2 and genocide kernal 1.1 about two weeks ago and ever since my phone is just been really buggy.
For example: I go to call someone and and it connects for about one second and then ends the call. When this happens it also shuts down all the sounds, like the ringer volume buttons don't beep. The only way to get it back to normal is to shut it down and pull the battery.
I don't know if this is a problem but the 3g symbol has two arrows, sometimes it seems like they are white colored for a really long time like no 3g data is coming or going.
There also has been just a number of little annoying things that happen at random.
I have reflashed once already and it seemed to cure some of the problems but then new ones came up.
What are the possibilites of what is wrong? Rom,Kernal,Both, bad download?
What would you guys do? Should I odin back to normal and then download rom and kernal and reflash?
Can someone give me a link to some known clean files that i need for odin to flash back to eco5. If i do odin back to i need to erase anything before i do? Like themes or stuff like that.
Thank you to anyone that can help.
I would re-download everything to your computer, then transfer to sdcard. Then Odin to stock EC05, then wipe cache, data, dalvik 3 times each, then flash the ROM, then flash the kernel, then any mods you want. Reboot between each flash.

Correction, flash rom and kernel in the same flash, otherwise you'll get stuck on boot without a kernel.
So what files do I need for odin to go back to eco5? Does anyone have a link for the correct files?
I will start with a recommendation once you get up and running to enable journaling seeing that you seem to have some stability issues. Get that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071723
For ec05 stock go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
To get the files also has instructions. If you like visual instructions there is a link in my sig for qbking's videos.

Almost so necessary on 1.2 that it should probably be baked in with the option to flash the zip to turn it off

Ok so I downloaded the journal On and Off files from your first link. They seem pretty straight forward. Once you have your custom rom and kernal installed you use CWM to flash the ON zip file to enable journaling and you do the same thing with the OFF zip file if you want to turn it off. Is that correct?
Now for the stock files in your second link, I am still not sure which ones I need. I read the whole post and I am wanting to go back to complete stock setup. I think I need this file:Ok so I downloaded the journal On and Off files from your first link. They seem pretty straight forward. Now for the stock files in your second link, I am still not sure which ones I need. I think I need this file: SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar,and s1_odin_20100512.pit. Are these the two files that I need to return to a stock fresh eco5 setup? I am just wanting to make sure because the files don't say anything about eco5.
Thanks to everyone that is helping me.
Yes, you just flash the journal on zip right after ROM and kernel then reboot. It adds stability. From the look of the link, it will restore you to an early version of stock and you will most likely be prompted for an OTA update to get back to EC05

Cm9 alpha 4 question

I'm defiantly new to this type of rom and was curious if I could get some help on how to flash things. I flashed the el26 cwm booted into it flashed a kernel that is compatible and my phone went into a boot loop. I know there is no recovery that stays but did I do something improperly? Thanks
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
That El26 CWM tar you flashed is working fine. It is a recovery ONLY. You can only boot into recovery with it (Vol Up + Power, hold until recovery shows up).
You have to have a ROM on your SD Card to flash from that recovery to get things to work from there.
EL26CWM IS a kernel. You need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 and read and learn before you brick your phone. EL26 is for GB roms but the el26cwm kernel is the last kernel built from source with cwm. That's why we use it to flash roms. You said you flashed a kernel in it. You should make sure the kernel is compatible with the rom you are using before doing that. Hope you were able to figure out the issue.
get the cm9 rom. get gapps, and the el26 cwm, and whatever mods you want to add.
i usually start at el29 and wait for it to boot then i put the el26cwm in odin do its thing. then when it reboots go into cwm wipe data, cache, and dalvik. (do it a couple of times) then i use calks format all, just to make sure everything is gone and starting new. flash cm9 then i wipe everything again (its what i do dont know about you guys) then flash gapps, then wipe and flash mods, kernels, modems. but i dont do the mods kernels and modems part cuz i feel cm9 is wonderful without. Hope you can get it out of the boot loop. good luck to you sir
i just download the el26cwm kernel, cm9 fe21 kernel, and whatever mods you want to flash.. mobile odin to el26cwm recovery, flash cm9 kernel, flash mods, and reboot.. keeps you from having to reflash the whole rom every time.. if you want you could always wipe cache/dalvik through el26 recovery during this also i just never do lol

GPS doesnt work without wifi
ok im new to all this. but for some reason i cant use my gps without having a wifi signal. i went through i made sure that is was sent to use the internal gps but still no luck. is there a mod, kernal or something to get around all that. if u can help that would be great.
Daytime88, some people have had issues, see here on fixes:
http://code.google.com/p/epictouchcm/issues/detail?id=33
I know for a fact that alpha4, FE16 (and FE22 looks like) have amazing GPS signal. I can get a signal lock in a parking garage, around tall buildings, and inside my car away from windows, and inside my house, all within 10 seconds. The GPS in this phone is amazing when properly set up.

Might want to try different modems also. My 4g and GPS sucks with fe16/21/22 but is great with fe10.

Going from Blazer ICS Rom to AOKP ICS Rom

I have my rooted E4GT and the Blazer ICS Rom is installed on it at the moment. I kinda want to try and switch to AOKP's latest build and try it out, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since they clearly stated not to flash from ICS to ICS.
Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should do in order to make the switch to AOKP?
Links to both ROM's respective threads:
AOKP Build 40
Phantom's Blazer Rom
Thanks for your time.
You can just Odin the el26 cwm (sorry don't have the link to it on my phone) and flash AOKP from there.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
This is my method, it is 99.9% safe. You can also re-use it to go from other ROMs to any other ics ROM.
Download these drivers
Download this: OC ODIN File for EL26 and this: E4GT Root Utility
Using Titanium Backup, make a backup of all your stuff, or use your preferred back-upper, just not nandroid. I recommend buying the Pro version, because it will save you so many times, and the dev is great. It's a little expensive though for an app.
OC Odin back to EL26. The good thing about this is, the process is straight forward, and doesn't add to your flash counter, and does not yellow triangle either.
Open up e4gtauto-sfx.exe, option C, then I. This gives you CWM, And just in case, I do not recommend using other than standard CWM to flash ICS roms. but that's me.
When your phone reboots, it should have CWM, and be rooted, just load up the AOKP files, do a data wipe, and flash.
Thank you both for the replies
Would I be able to use calkulins format all to do the wipes? Or does that only work for certain ROMS? It seemed pretty fool proof when I used it, so I was wondering if I could just use that again and it would work just the same? I don't want to forget something and brick my phone as a result
And I'll look into titanium backup, thanks for the suggestion.

For ICS ROMs, I recommend to not use it, just do 1 system data wipe and you'll be fine.

Alright, but all I should need to do is install the EL26 + CWM and I can flash AOKP? I don't need to go back to a stock gingerbread ROM or anything, or will the OC EL26 CWM do that for me?
And you said you don't recommend calkulin's format all for ICS roms, but that's what I was told to use for the Phantom Blazer ICS rom when I was flashing it?
Also, one more question; what is "flash count" and is it a bad thing? I'll do some googling on it myself, but I'd like to hear your explanation because I don't always understand people's ways of describing things and usually take weird explanations to understand so yours would still be much appreciated just in case, thanks. ^_^

You just need to be on a safe recovery.... if you wipe data in an unconfirmed recovery you can cause a brick. Either use the el26 that all use or the el29-reboot kernel. Both will work no matter what you install regardless of you install (granted you flash a working rom). I prefer the el29 because you install via mobile Odin and it boots straight to safe CWM recovery.

Help with sister's E4GT

I rooted my sister's E4GT last year and she's still running Calkulin's E4GT ROM v2.6 and her current kernel is 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL13-CL806482
She's still on Gingerbread, and I want her to enjoy the ICS experience or JB if there's any stable JB ROMs.
My phone is an EVO so I am not comfortable/familiar with the Samsung pitfalls. I don't want to brick my sister's phone.
On my phone I'd download the zip, and in recovery factory reset, wipe data, cache, dalvik, system, and then flash the ROM, but I've read that could lead to a brick on the E4GT.
What's the safest way for me to flash some ICS/JB ROMs for her to try out?

Just look at ICS roms and first few post to see how they perform. Flash away.
The safest recovery to use is el 26 cwm
http://chris41g.devphone.org/EpicTouch/Stock Repack/EL26/StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5 For Odin or Mobile Odin if you have that.
You can just flash just about anything once you are in that recovery. The only major difference for you to know is that once you flash the rom, the kernel that is packed into the rom will also change the recovery. Also I do not really think there is a need to use a wipe all zip just unnecessary and usually causes error's when installing certain roms.
Most of the newer rom's do come with a safe recovery, but if you are unsure and have not read much and verified that the included recovery in the rom is safe I would recommend using el26cwm.
You can also use this recovery, this one will boot straight to recovery

Most of the roms I have flashed say to use format all. I always use it and haven't come acrossed any errors. Doesn't mean it is absolutely necessary or will not cause errors though.

[Q] [q] weird gps issues (software or hardware?) you tell me

2 BOTH ROOTED SAME WAY ODIN TO STOCK EL29 THEN ODIN THE EL26 FULL RESTORE ROOT
3 ODIN EL26 CWM THEN FLASHED SHADOW_GOD JELLYVERSE CURRENTLY THE UPDATED V4(BY THE WAY THANK YOU SHADOW GOD FOR AN AMAZING ROM) INCLUDING THE FL16 MODEM AND FOLLOW STEPS ACCORDING TO OP
4 ROM AND MODEM ON BOTH PHONES CAME FROM SAME DOWNLOAD SO NO BAD DOWNLOADS PERFECT FLASH NO ISSUES
NOW THE ISSUE ON MY PHONE THE BLACK E4GT GPS DONT WANNA WORK SOMETIMES IT LOCKS BUT NOT SO GREAT
ON THE OTHERHAND MY WIFE'S E4GT GPS IS AMAZING LOCKS ON SECONDS SHE CAN BE INSIDE THE ROOM AWAY FROM THE WINDOW.. I CAN BE ON THE WINDOW GET A POOR LOCK GPS STATUS SHOWS 4/4 SHE GETS 11/12(AWAY FROM THE WINDOW)
AND BEFORE THIS I TRY EVERY POSSIBLE FIX/APP IN MY PHONE ..WE WENT ON AN 2 HOUR TRIP I DECIDE IT TO TEST MY GPS FIRST COULDNT GET A LOCK WE HAD TO STOP SO I COULD GPS STATUS RESET/DOWNLOAD MY PHONE WAIT TILL FINALLY GOT A LOCK THEN I STILL LOOSE LOCK ON THE GO BACK AND FOWARD HER PHONE GPS WAS FLAWLESS ON SPOT SINCE WE LEFT TILL WE CAME BACK
SO I DECIDED TO TAKE OFF THE FIXES FULLY RESTORE MY PHONE BACK TO GB ROOTED AGAIN FLASH THE JELLYVERSE AGAIN NOW BOTH PHONES HAVE THE SAME CONFIGURATION..AND STILL MY GPS SUCKS
I C A LOT OF PEOPLE BLAMING THE MODEMS /ROMS/SOFTWARE BUT MY QUESTION IS... IS IT REALLY A SOFTWARE OR A HARDWARE ISSUE?? CUZ I HAVE 2 PHONES WITH THE SAME CONFIGURATION ROM KERNEL MODEM EVERYTHING ON BOTH CAME FROM THE SAME DOWNLOAD AND STILL ONE WORKS BETTER THAN THE OTHER

Download EL26 safe recovery
Download GB Blazer ROM
Download EL26 Modem
Download the ROM you will install + Gapps if necessary.
Download the modem you will use for the ROM of your choice.
If you are using MobileODIN his will be much easier.
1. Flash EL26 safe recovery
2. Once in recovery mode, wipe user data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik 2 times each.
3. Flash GB BLAZER ROM
4. Flash EL26 MODEM
5. Reboot and run the ROM, immediately go to maps and get a LOCK on GPS.
6. While LOCK on GPS, reboot into recovery (It should be Clockwork Mod recovery 5.0.2.7)(if not go back into the phone and flash the recovery from ROM manager app, if it was already installed [I can't remember])
7. Perform a backup.
++++
Now it's time to install your ROM.
++++
8. Wipe the 3 things above on #2(1 time only).
9. Flash your ROM of choice + Modem of choice +Gapps (last) if necessary.
10. Reboot phone and immediately check GPS.
Hopefully his was helpful.
I will tell you it's a hardware issue the way the GPS runs thru the Processors cache, or something like that. When we wipe it clears the GPS and it's hard to get a LOCK.
I read that.
Let me know if you cant get a hold on anything listed above.
