I thought SGX540 that's superior than iphone4 would run new games without any lags but for new games such as 9mm and let's golf 3 i've face many stutter on those games. I'd like to ask others that you have problem like me or not ? or maybe next time i'd go back to ios or waiting ice cream sandwich. Those games are smooth in iphone4 but not in galaxy s that has superior GPU.
I didn't play to 9mm and I just tested Lets Golf3, but yeah... it's not strange to have some small lags sometimes.
If gaming on the phone is very important for you I suggest to use samsung roms and not cm7 or miui.
And yeah, maybe you should have buy an iPhone, Android still can beat iOS when it comes to games
im currently on JVT.firmware

I notice the lags too. I strongly believe that the lags are caused primarily by low ram. On Froyo, I never had lags in games, and they were all super smooth. But on gingerbread, after a few hours of usage, the ram drops below 100mb, and the games will lag. The games don't lag on a fresh boot. Hence, the problem is not with the gpu, but with the fact that 512mb of ram is just not enough for gingerbread. If you want to remove the lags in games as well as in the phone interface, I recommend that you flash a 2.2.1 rom. ZSJPK was one of the best roms I've ever used.
Yeah, sgx540 is better than the 535 use in iphone 4, but it's all about drivers and optimisations. And we can't deny that Apple is doing a wonderfull job with iOS.

indeed, i also think the lags are caused by lack of ram...
when you move the camera around in the game it sometimes hangs and when the textures are in RAM, you can continue playing without fps drops or lag
a tip before you start playing:
- root your phone and install "autostarts" to disable all crap which boots up with android
- reboot phone
- after booting go to task manager and cleanup ram
- go to settings => applications => active services and kill unnecessary processes. (for example, when you close the facebook app, it still keeps running as a service, sometimes almost using 50MB ram)
i reduced lag in 9mm alot with the method above...
Is there a custom rom that has a very low ram consumption? that would fix this issues

how many ram does system take with that rom?
For games playing, 2.2.1(JSD) is a Must!

Reboot my phone. Clear memory with task manager. Kill active services... just to game? Why not just close some apps? Common sense, people. It's a brilliant thing.

Yes, it's called V6 Supercharger Script. It's like a ROM, but it's actually just a script... and you can run that script on whatever ROM you want. What it does, is it lets you pick a number. That number decides how much free RAM you'll have. Then, like magic, you just have it.
There hasn't been a single piece of good advice in this thread...

No, custom roms, even so called simple and bare ones, use more ram than stock roms. I recommend ZSJPK 2.2.1, which has about 180mb of ram on boot, and an average of 120-140mb or ram after two days' usage.

Then you do it without the script. What's the problem here? I have over 2,000 games on my phone. And no, that wasn't a typo. None of them lag.

because android automatically closes apps when RAM is low and services always keep running in the background, whether you need them or not.
why would you let a service use your ram when you don't even need it? THAT is common sense.

I've rolled back to froyo and now without apps in the background i0ve about 140mb of ram used, and now 9mm goes smooth. I'm not moving from froyo any more.
Also, now the battery lasts in 6 hours of screen usage, and with jvt only 4 hours

Are they though? When I help someone out, I tell them correct information. If I don't know the correct information, I don't tell them anything. Why? Because incorrect information is worse than not helping at all. Few people in this thread have given remotely acceptable advice. No one needs to do a 3-step process, including rebooting your phone, just to play games; likewise, no one needs to downgrade to Froyo in order to game either.
I have Let's Golf! 3D installed currently, but I don't have the most recent revision of 9MM—although I have played it in the past. I have my phone's CPU and GPU overclocked, like I'm sure many of us do here, and I can play both without noticeable lag. I didn't have to reboot my phone to play them. I didn't have to uninstall apps to play them. I didn't have to flash an entirely new ROM to play them. And I certainly didn't need to stand on one leg with the phone above my head to play them.
Bad advice is just bad.

I posted what helped reducing lag in 9mm on my phone.
if you don't need the help i posted, that's too ****ing bad. the fact this topic was started shows people are facing the same problem with lack of usable ram memory for 9mm.
looks like you have some sort of magic phone with unlimited amounts of ram memory that never lags
the reason why i told him to reboot his phone is because ram usage is much less in most cases, right after booting up.
and btw, next time do some more effort instead of posting one line if my information is not correct
I just have less ram free all the time ( less than 100 mb ). I have only few applications running. can anyone tell me why is this happen and how to increase free ram.

You have 100mb free ram all the time and you are COMPLAINING ABOUT IT? How about to have 20 MB FREE ALL THE TIME? THEN WHAT?
You should really stop about complaining ram and read/understand how android/linux works. I am tired to say the same fu%%ing thing over and over again.
Don't use apps from playstore that boosts whatever part of the phone even if it is ram or battery...
Having 100mb free ram on your phone is good for the system.
Eeven I was wondering...
Even I was wondering why will anyone complain about 100MB? So what do you want 512MB of RAM free? :
Free RAM is irrelevant, Android memory management is unlike your desktop computer. It fills the memory with commonly used applications and only clears them out when you need the room for something else. So uninstall Advanced Task Killer, that sort of crap was deemed dumb/harmful years ago.

None of these new guys want to understand how this works.... and they keep opening threads about how small ram they have when viewing the ram from settings, that they have small amount of free ram... pff.... android can work stable even if it has 10 mb free ram. it is not like windows as Passa91 said...
When you play a game that requires alot of resources (512ram lets say), everything gets killed or resides in cached apps and the game runs smooth! When you close the game, the rest of the apps are restored....
Thanks all who reply to my Q.
I just wan a tell you guys im new to android so i dont have much idea about how its worked ok. and i dont had any issue with ram since i couldn't play temple run on my phone. It stuck my phone. then only i looked what is the issue. so i thought thats issue with ram.
Since im new to android from 512 ram its showing 90 -100 as free without running much application. That is why i ask about this.
any way thanks again for reply and i got the answer.

Why only with HTC?
I'm not arguing and I know how Android manages the Memory but still...
Why is this only with HTC? .
I have an Xperia Mini and my friend has Karbonn A9.
ALWAYS Karbonn A9 had more than 210MB of Free RAM and Xperia Mini had 120MB of Free RAM. I never thought like why is my phone having less RAM, etc. etc. but now I realize that it's actually a little sluggish/slow.
When I applied the ICS BOOT Live Wallpaper on all the 3 phones, Karbonn A9 and Xperia Mini could handle it very smoothly at 60FPS (it's a setting for that live wallpaper), but, HTC One V was very slow and sluggish.
Again when I played Raging Thunder 2 Lite on A9 and Xperia Mini, it was very smooth and my One V just couldn't handle it.
Any answers for this??
Is this just because of HTC Sense?

HTC One V, CDMA, running "Unofficial CM10 for PrimoC".
When I go into Settings > About Phone, it shows Memory: 333 MB.
The same exact phone running the stock ROM showed 512 MB.
However, when you add up the used and free numbers in both under Settings > Apps > Running, I get 334 MB on the CM10 rom and 362 MB on the stock ROM. I think there's just confusion about how the memory is being used and what numbers are exactly being displayed.
The memory displayed in settings is retrieved by the build.prop file. That doesn't tell you the total amount of ram the phone has. That's the total amount of ram 'free for user usage'. The rest of it is managed by the system but if you really want to see how much ram you have left on your phone go to Settings - apps and select running. Down there you should see the free ram you have, like in my screenshot below!

I'm sure CM has that low mem problem though ither way. I saw someone posting bugs about it.

i said it numerous times... android is NOT windows. your free ram in linux => your system fails to work. your free ram in windows => you can open up more programs until the ram is full.
in linux it is better to have the whole ram full, not free. if you want more infos, you can search on the net.
When an Android app is no longer in use, the system will automatically suspend it in memory - while the app is still technically "open," suspended apps consume no resources (e.g. battery power or processing power) and sit idly in the background until needed again. This has the dual benefit of increasing the general responsiveness of Android devices, since apps don't need to be closed and reopened from scratch each time, but also ensuring background apps don't waste power needlessly

Android manages the apps stored in memory automatically: when memory is low, the system will begin killing apps and processes that have been inactive for a while, in reverse order since they were last used (i.e. oldest first). This process is designed to be invisible to the user, such that users do not need to manage memory or the killing of apps themselves.[65] However, confusion over Android memory management has resulted in third-party task killers becoming popular on the Google Play store; these third-party task killers are generally regarded as doing more harm than good.

Hi, i have this problem too before. Which class of sd card your using?
If you have sd card class 4 then dont move the game to sd or just install it to internal memory.
I dont know if this help but you should try it. Now i have no lag when playing games like mc4,asphalt7,hoc,real racing3,etc.
Im on aurora play, smartass2 1.2 ghz+sio.
So far i have installed 125 games and applications (still 1 gb internal memory left) and i am running out of ram - nearly 300 mb, what is the solution to increase the ram in this case?

Anyway don't worry about RAM...
Android is not like Windows and free RAM is wasted RAM...
Android utilizes the maximum RAM available to it...
