More details are needed for assistance here.
You mentioned firefirefire being installed on your kindle (I think)
How did you install firefirefire? (KFU, ADB or another method)
Have you installed recovery (TWRP or CWM)?
EDIT: You should have created a new thread for your issue instead of hijacking this guys thread.

Wallpapers should be at least 1024x1024 for it to work well in landscape and portrait.

That has nothing to do with this thread. Try using the search and if you don't find anything make a new thread instead of posting in a totally unrelated thread. Thanks.
I might be missing something but shouldn't all wallpapers just match the native resolution of the kindle? 1024 x 600?
1575X1024
1575X1024will be fullscreen

No, because Android has scrolling wallpapers so in order for that to work it has to go past the sides.

I am really hating this 8.30 update got it rooted 3 times (all 3 times different way.... but could repeat it) but both for some reason or another lost root, and seams to be no reliable way to root 8.30 consistently every time! (if their is one please let me know!!) but I want to get TWRP on so I want to know how to downgrade to 8.14 (I just got fast boot working, their really needs to be a how to on installing drivers correctly, for windows 8)
Would it be posible to make a rom that can be flashed from fastboot that would downgrade to 8.14 and have root pre-installed and OTA update blocked?
Thanks for any help!!
Ok found it out!! the easiest way was to use First Aide Software Then use option 7. (It doesn't say but it does have root, plus has a version wrong says 8.2.4 once you start it but dont worry its the right one) once its done (will take a while to do as it downloads the image), I then ran option 14 (Dissable OTA Update) then option 18 (Google Play store).
How to install ADB drivers with windows 8
First before you do anything go to Settings, then Change PC Settings, then General, Advanced Startup restart then go advanced options and disable driver signature or something like that. then start restart and it will restart the computer and give you a option menu select the dissable driver signature again. Then once it get up and log in uninstall any drivers you have with the kindle installed, then use the First Aide Software and run option 12 and go thought and accept everything and it should say have working drivers installed!
Hope this can help someone as it was a super pain for me to find it out! Let me know if it helps!
Thank you for the info.
I had a 8.13 and lost root yesterday after it auto updated itself, so I am frustrated as you are to the point that I am considering returning it and buy something else.

Back the device down to 8.1.x in FirstAide, then run the 'defeat Amazon OTA Update' option.
I did that and my 8.9 didn't get hit with the latest update. It works!
Can you be a little more specific? Settings? Which settings?

Are you on windows 8? If you are go to the right corner of the screen and a menu should come up then go to settings it shows a little gear. once you click that will have another screen has different things like volume power and what not go to the very bottom and it says change pc settings, then go to General on the left at the top will have Time Settings scroll to the bottom to Advanced startup. then go from there just keep going advanced till disable device driver signature, not doing it now so don't remember exactly how. Then it will restart and you need to click the number to disable device driver signiture and then it will boot up, and you can install the drivers, but remember to remove the drivers you have on first.

Look in laslow.net - search for "disable-driver-signature-enforcement-in-windows-8"
I would post the URL but this forum won't let me.
the bcdedit commands still work in Windows 8, but you may have to change a BIOS setting if you have a Secure Boot enabled BIOS
Hey guys, how long should I wait for completing option 7? It has finished boot, recovery, system, and now its on "erasing userdata"......how long does it take, its been awhile.

I don't understand. KFU doesn't install? Did you unzip the package?
Run the drivers.bat first, then the other one. It should run just fine.
For more support, switch to KFU 9.8

I have never heard of this happening, in my 9+ months of participating on this site. I don't know what you did, but get rid of kfu 9.6, uninstall the driver for the kindle, and run kfu 9.8 . This is just an updated package for the kindle.

I have a question too regarding rooting. Will I still be able to download "free/lending" books for Prime subscribers (which I am)?? Also, If I install CM will that still retain the above mention feature ?
Thanks!

Uhm. How about the link that I previously posted?!
Maybe you should check what has been suggested before you post something like this.
I don't know what the benefits are, but it has moved on to 9.9 in the past few hours. Take your pick as to which one you want.
Sorry. I don't mean to be so brash, it's just that I specifically pointed you where to go, and it's almost like you're ignoring it.

When you download and unzip the KFU, just double-click on "install_drivers.bat" and it should work. Don't move it from the location it comes in before running it or it probably won't work and you'll get the exact error message you are receiving now.
Just click the install drivers.bat in the folder of KFU

Sorry guys, had to go out town on bussness. The KF is at home on my desk. Expect to be back late this coming week
I am ecstatic to announce that I have found a solution as of 2016! Please visit my thread describing the tutorial on how to remove firelauncher and use any launcher you choose without rooting your Fire HD device!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/tut-remove-default-launcher-amazon-fire-t3288192
I have been reading a lot of forum posts and decided to make an account here in order to communicate with you guys. I see you are all interested in possible modifications to the Kindle Fire, and as you must know the HD 8 & 10 models do not have a root currently.
I am relatively new to Android but I am really enjoying working with it. The only thing I do not like about the FireOS is the firelauncher (com.amazon.firelauncher), and I have been looking for a working way to remove, replace, or modify it without rooting (unless there is a way).
I found two methods to accomplish this, however it needs some tweaking. I think someone as experienced as you might be able to perfect it.
Method 1:
I noticed that the stock APK file, ("/system/priv-app/com.amazon.firelauncher/com.amazon.firelauncher.apk") cannot be touched as it is a read-only filesystem, but I can reinstall it. (I was able to reinstall a slightly older version of firelauncher successfully using "adb install -r -d firelauncher.apk" successfully by the way). During the installation there is a brief moment where it is deleted, and the prompt to select a different default launcher is presented, and works. Sadly I have no clue on how to prevent firelauncher from finishing its installation. I tried "reboot -p" to kill the device in the middle of an installation and various other things but nothing worked.
Method 2:
Like I mentioned previously, I was able to reinstall any version or a modified version of the APK. This allowed me to edit the contents of the APK and delete some important resources, causing the launcher to crash and switch over to the last opened window, I think there is potential in here if classes.dex could be modified somehow.
Method 3:
I was able to take a different launcher and decompile it, edit the package name from net.example.testlauncher to com.amazon.firelauncher, however I don't know how to sign it properly and the mismatch caused the tablet to reject the apk. This has REAL potential as a method, but it may be impossible to forge a certificate signature.
Edit: It may be possible to disable the certificate checking,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698352
If anyone is able to collaborate with me on this, we may be able to finally get rid of the horrendous firelauncher. Additionally, anyone who would like to remotely test things on my Fire HD 8 let me know and I'll setup a console or something for you.
I am attatching a previous version of firelauncher.apk, to install it (which there is no real reason to do so) type adb install -r -d firelauncher.apk
I have been experimenting with modified backup and restore files, no luck there. I have also worked with sideloading certain files, and of course no luck there either. There might be some potential in the fastboot screen, but I am not sure which command to use to unlock the kernal. I will post a list of all the getvars if anyone will find them useful. I remember unlock_status: false but that is about it. fastboot oem unlock does nothing as it is an invalid command.
I am ecstatic to announce that a temporary fix for this has been found! Please visit my thread describing the tutorial on how to remove firelauncher and use any launcher you choose without rooting your Fire HD device!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/tut-remove-default-launcher-amazon-fire-t3288192
Either deal with the quick delay of the fire launcher, or just don't use a different launcher.
Launcher Hijack works flawlessly if you delete the firelauncher. The home button will still work, but there are other side affects.
If you don't delete firelauncher, and I sincerely hope you haven't, then you still get the occasional delay like normal.

I GOT IT TO WORK!
After my latest failures, I got the bright idea to try something that has never worked for me before: LauncherHijack
I downloaded LauncherHijackV3 from GitHub(mod please help with the link ) and sideloaded it onto my kindle and installed.
I opened it and selected ADW Launcher (the only one on the list), and now the home button works beautifully, with no lag at all.
I'm so happy im gonna make a new thread!  :victory: :good: :victory:

Well... but there is the problem that whenever you go home, sometimes, you see for a brief period the amazon launcher, making it confusing and weird. That thing made me return to the amazon launcher due to the trouble it gave me.
So.. lag or no lag? Do you still see the fire launcher when using adw?

Yes I am aware of that now. At first I had deleted firelauncher and then installed LauncherHijack. This completely erased any lag or glitches with the main fire launcher, but had some other side effects not related to the launcher or the home button.
So my statement is now outdated and i will be editing it now.

Yes. I believe there is no way around this as of now without root.
Hi all,
The latest update has some issues- the OS boots and I am immediately presented with a system.ui has been stopped dialogue. I'm unable to open the app drawer, open an app, open the notification drop-down. The popup appears almost immediately after dismissing. I think the Testers really missed something here.......
I'm going to have to try and locate the previous version and hope I can install it through twrp.
Has anyone else seen this happen?

I was unable to install the apks located there in the traditional way. I tried to install them through TWRP via adb push file.apk /system/app but it didn't work. I'm unaware of how to install APKs outside of the system otherwise? Regardless, downgrading, if this method is viable, didn't work. I had to completely wipe clean and start fresh.

Not sure if HTC is to blame, or we...or you being still on marshmallow.
Next time please post in the viper thread, then I would have seen your post much earlier to debug your issue.
we found the issue.
run:
adb shell settings put system tweaks_hquicksettings Tweaks
..and it will be fixed. when you resetup your toggles, don't pick any of the two sync toggles.
I'll create a flashable zip to remove those soon.

You should have been able to fix it without wiping by booting to recovery and dirty flashing the ROM.

Not sure who is to blame, htc or we.
You can install the update, with either the fix installed or the sync toggles removed.
or you dirty flash the fullrom on top, that way the sync toggles stay working.

I have this problem on my m8 as well. Unfortunately I was not able to solve this problem with your post. I cannot execute the adb command since adb is telling me that my device is offline (I booted into the OS with the screen going on and off).
I also flashed the zip file, but it didn't work out either. I am not sure which version of viper I have (I assume it's the 6.0.1), so I tried different zips but no success...
Could anyone tell me what I did wrong? I really don't want to do a full reset.

another way would be to go to twrp->advanced->file manager
navigate to /data/app/ and delete the com.htc.lockscreen folder do the same in /data/data
boot up, then go back to recovery and flash the fullrom on top.
if nothing helps, you can do a twrp backup, then clean flash. Now you can restore your apps and data with titanium backup.
Been looking for a solution to this ! My gf phone had the exact same issue, dirty flashed and still no good etc.
I shall try the packages J posted. Thanks so much!

Ok, so I have a V1 fire stick, sadly on 5.2.4.1, So far not seeing anything that says if it can be rooted. Was hoping my searches are wrong. Not sure if one can downgrade or anything yet either.
Also I really hate the Amazon UI.. I know many things break the home button so was wondering if anything has come out that would work in a launcher.
Is the best way to block OTA updates still via a router filtering the domain?
Just a bump again, not so much for the root side since I dont see any news there but on how to prevent the OTA? This way I dont have it auto update when I would like to get root on my v1.

you can't root at this time, but you can sideload appstarter and other apps to get away from the fire UI. There are tons of apps you can install through sideloading. appstarter will give you easy access to them. adblink is a nice program to help sideload apps. es file manager anotehr great way to install items is downloader app from AFTVnews.com. AFTVnews is a great way to stay updated on available options and rooting news with the fireTV stuff.
