Basically I am trying to do a Nandroid backup on a phone with no screen. When doing the 3 finger salute, I get to the CWM screen I think.
Then I press the rocker down button 5 times, then camera twice. I do that but it doesn't seem to backup. Can anyone verify the keypresses for me please.
Also verify the timing for the 3 finger salute.
FYI I am on CWM 5.0.2.7
That is correct combination for CWM 5.027 and I am on MTD. Pull your sd card and check on a computer. In the clockworkmod\bacckup folder should be a file dated today or when you did the backup.

Yeah I did it, but there is no backup in that folder. I didn't know if I was holding the three finger salute too long or what I could be doing wrong. I am sure that I am in CWM, since the lights stay on.
Shouldn't have to hold too long. I hold it for like 4-5 seconds. Or until the capacitive lights come on. I'll take a picture of my phone in recovery or you can Google one.... and then use that as a mental picture....

I did Google a pic and the pics that I see show that I should be pressing the rocker down button SIX times, not five. I am trying that now.

If this doesn't work, I will just give up. I think the screen shot that showed 6 times was the Epic touch.
Whatever. This is frustrating.
I am using the recovery that flashes as part of TPR 2.2. That is the regular CWM 5.0.2.7 right???

It only flashes a recovery if you use it to convert to MTD. And it is 6 lines down meaning 5 button pushes.

OK I am using CWM 5.5.0.4
I got into CWM by rebooting from the power button popup screen
4 toggles down is backup and restore
then the home button twice.
Takes a little over 5 mins for mine to complete it and then it returns to the CWM home screen

Would have been Useful IF he was on clockwork mod 5.5 he's on the old 5.0.2.7 which has more first menu options.

Yes, I guess you are right. I didn't catch that the first read. my apologies.
You might be able to boot to cwm, then connect with adb and tar the individual partitions your self. If you search around you may even be able to find the exact commands cwm runs to make its backups.

So I have used the BAmod recovery, clockwork, amon_ra installed using the unrevoked method, and the sd card method...I always get the same results. I can get into the recovery and move up and down to make selections on the initial screen, but once I make a selection I just get a completely black screen. I'm not sure what is happening...any suggestions?
You make selections with the track pad, the power button goes back and at the root menu turns the screen off.

Is there a way for cwm to boot into external SD card? Coming from HTC amaze it was one of the options.
Also, hard boot into recovery via battery removal it's so painful - holding 3 buttons and inserting the battery at the same time is a challenge. Is there another way?

Rom manager has a reboot recovery option. Yoibcoild use adb reboot recovery. There are lots of other ways.

There's no need to insert the battery at the same time. Do that first. You can even put the battery cover on. Then when you're ready hold power, volume up, and home button at the same time. If you wanted you can even hold home and volume up before pressing power.

What about changing cwm so that when we boot into recovery you can flash from your external SD card?

This works fine under normal boot into recovery, but I just use quick boot app from market for that. The problem is when I flash a different rom for instance and forget to flash the matching kernel. The only way to get back is to remove battery trick, which is not easy.

Adb will still work.
Edit: If your gonna mess around in any way with your Android device, you should really learn adb before hand.

So I installed CWM with the "CWM Installer" APK I had backed up on my SD Card as I had used that APK before , and it worked but now when I install CWM and click "Boot into CWM" it turns off, turns on, blue light comes on for about 2-3 seconds then turns off and continues to boot into Android.
Any hello is appreciated. Looked in the X-Parts thread but found no answers. And before you ask, yes I tried the newer versions.
I tried before, that won't work. You need to press volume button to go into CWM
Thanks, I'll try that now.
Just tried, the same thing happens. Blue light flashes, then boots as normal.

But for some reason, when I did that earlier, it didn't work. Decided to leave it turned off for about 10 minutes.

No, it was just a joke. See, before -Swift- here got his PLAY, he used to roll with me in the X8 forums . Spamming the back button was how we get into CWM just decided to give him a blast from the past

Today I went into recovery mode to fix permissions because my phone was running funny. I used the cache wipe script and when i tried rebooting my phone it wouldn't turn on. I decided to take the battery out for a few minutes to see if that would help. It finally turned on but it is stuck on the boot animation. I have tried to get straight into recovery after trying to reboot it but it won't let me. Could someone please help me figure out what's wrong and how I can fix it?
Have you tried holding down both vol down + up and power button same time then releasing power button when the phone vibrates?

I've tried that and nothing. I can turn it on now but it gets stuck on the boot animation. I cant get into recovery.
Edit: Finally got it into recovery now I'm going to flash a backup i made yesterday. Thanks for the reply.
Hold the vol up and down with power button at the same time. Let it vibrate once and take finger off power button and once Samsung logo comes on take your fingers off the volume rocker.

Your going to have to reflash your custom ROM from your recovery menu
He most likely used TDJ's scripts on the newer CWM versions and borked his recovery. I've done the same thing with my device...

Hey all I have a question about recovery on my GS2. My question is my phone wont power on due to a black screen and constant vibrating. It happened to me twice now and the first time I was able to fix it. My question is I made a recovery on my phone after I fixed it and I called t-mobile tonight and they are going to send me a replacement phone. My question is I have a backup and I was wondering if I could take that backup and restore to it on my new phone???
It SHOULD work. No guarantee though.

i think you can do a factory reset. it's in settings.
Yes, you can erase all info. Just wipe it all. Factory reset...cache....system...dalvick...etc. Your phone will be squeaky clean :fingers-crossed:
I cant power on the phone or get into recovery.
Holding power button and both up and down volume buttons don't work either? I mean hold all 3 at the same time.
