[Q] [ROOT ERROR] KF 6.3.1 using KFU V0.9.6 - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to root my KF 6.3.1 using the KFU 0.9.6
When I connect it shows
Status : Online
BootMode : 4000
I proceed to 'install permanent root with superuser'
It runs a lot of code...
which has a lot of error messages in it...
Finally... it shows SUCCESS...
The SU app also gets installed on the device...
But I tried to run apps that require rooted device and they give an error message saying 'your device needs to be rooted.'
Attaching output of root operation with the message.
Experts and Gods - please help!
NOTE --
Currently using Windows 7 as laptop OS
ADB drivers seem to be working correctly because I'm also able to push install apps on the device using the "adb install xyz.apk" method.
The device shows as Android Phone > Android Composite USB Interface in device manager.

do you have allow installation from unknown sources checked? And you say that device manager shows android composite usb interface? it should say android composite adb interface.

shift+ right click on the tools folder in the kfu and open in command then type adb devices if its return by a string of numbers that shows your device connected

It's not downloading the files... second person it happens to.
If you're going to try downloading them manually, do so from files\files.log and make sure the hashes match those present in that same file, to avoid issues.
Get the ones called openrecovery-twrp-blaze-2.1.1.img and fff-u-boot_v1.4a.bin.
Place the downloaded files in recovery (make that folder if it doesn't already exist) with the names twrp.img and fff.bin, respectively.
Or just go with the manual method for rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340
And then install TWRP and FFF separately. FFF is particularly important to have an extra layer of protection.
Also, have a read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547

Stuck with same problem, please help me.
Iam a newb . I am also stuck with same problem .It says rooted succesfully but its not rooted. please help me how to root kindle fire firm ware 6.3.1 manually . iam unable to understand how to do in windows7.
Thanks in advance.

Try redownloading kindle fire utility seems its missing some parts also you must be connected to the internet for it to fetch the required files

I am having the same problem. I ran the KFU, it didn't install TWRP or FFF but gave the message at the bottom that SU had been installed.
Couldn't actually use any programs that required root.
I went and tried to run the KFU from C:/ (first mistake, I did not move it to C:/ before executing), but now it does even less than the first time around, it looks like everything is failing.
Also, I downloaded and dropped the TWRP and FFF files in the recovery folder, that appears to work but the MD5 checksums are not adding up. It appears that the KFU cannot find the files.txt to see where to download the recovery files, nor to confirm the checksum.
So I tried to do it the manual way, I can get as far as running the fastboot flash commands. They get "OKAY" for both twrp and fff. Now I am expecting the kindle to reboot, but it just sits there, in fastboot mode. When I try to run a reboot command, it says no device.
Ideas?

Hope you at least checked the hashes first.
Are you going with adb reboot or fastboot reboot? If you're in fastboot mode, "fastboot reboot" is the one to use.

Hashes?? hahahah oops!
I actually made it past that part, I rebooted manually, it booted to fff, I kicked it to recovery mode with the power button and then performed a backup. Ran the next few commands with no problems.
I got to the part where I change the check_rooted file... when I run the mv command it tells me "Read-only file system".
EDIT!
I realized that I needed to go back into recovery mode to run the mv command. fastboot 5200 command, and rebooted... now I have twrp on the KF, I run the mv command again, but this time it says "no such file or directory". I hopped into the adb shell and cd'd over to the system/bin directory and did an ls command. Sure enough, it appears to be empty. But when I boot it up in normal mode, and cd over to /system/bin, it's full of files, including check_rooted.... So this is where I am at, I do not have a "check_rooted.bak" file in my bin directory, so I haven't quite finished rooting the KF.
EDIT again
OK, I suck at this, (obviously), I just needed to remount the system file and perform the command again and it worked... I now have check_rooted.bak
So I have completed all of the commands successfully, I have Superuser installed, and can access root in recovery mode no problem... but when I select root explorer in ES File Explorer, it tells me that it cannot be used on this device. What should I do next?

I think you may be missing steps, as you haven't mentioned copying the su binary.
Have a read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340 (just skip all the fastboot mode parts, head straight to copying the su binary)

You were absolutely right... I was using that thread as a guide, and mounted the steps and pushed the file, but never confirmed that it moved over... did it again, and done! Thanks!

MD5 doesnt match while doing manually.
I tried doing manually by downloading the files and renaming and pasting in the directory "Recovery" , but while rooting it says md5 doesnt match.
Please help me how to get rid of the problem. How to make md5 match.
I have tried all the ways to do rooting and iam very unsuccessfull.

PLEASE HELP! Kindle Fire stuck in infinite bootloop after adb reboot

Hi,
I recently got a new Kindle fire and tried to root it.
I followed the instructions given in this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340
However, my kindle fire seems to be stuck in an infinite boot loop after first step itself.
Here are the step I followed (I am using Windows 7 32bit).
1. Installed android sdk.
2. Updated the Kindle driver to install "android abd composite interface"
3. Downloaded all the required files in the platform-tools folder
Required files:
fbmode.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1414832
twrp2 - http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/79
su - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/kindlefire/su
firefirefirefire http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1369405
fastboot + adb for your OS of choice.
4. Followed following commands:
unzip fbmode.zip
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/fbmode
adb shell /data/local/fbmode
adb reboot
5. After this, my kindle fire seems to have stuck in an infinite boot loop.
- It starts up only when a USB cable is connected.
- Power light is orange and not green
- It starts up Kindle Fire logo comes up, then shuts down again
- My computer is not detecting any device, probably because KF is in an infinite boot loop
- When I run adb devices -- no devices show up
- When I run fastboot command [fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader .....] it says "waiting for devices"
- When I remove the USB cable from KF, It doesn't powers on (even after long pressing the power button).
- I tried many things posted on different forums on two laptops (Windows 7 32 bit as well as 64 bit) and using different USB cables but nothing worked.
- Only thing I haven't tried is Factory cable as I don't have it and don't have money to buy it.

Superuser not working
Thanks for the help with the charging issue Kinfauns!!!
I charged my kindle fire using stock charger and finally rooted it.
However, I am still not able to install android market on my KF.
After rooting Kindle (followed all the steps given in the thread), I installed Superuser.apk.
Then to install android market, I installed root explorer and downloaded Kindle Fire android market zip file. (followed instructions from one of the NAT3MIL's video on youtube).
First step is to install googleServicesFramework.apk file, which I did.
The next step is to move market.apk file to system/apps folder. However, when I tried doing that, I got a warning:
"Your phone doesn't appear to be rooted. This is requires in order to change or delete protected files such as this ......"
I don't understand why is it saying so as I have followed all the steps in the thread to root my KF?
How to check if the KF is really rooted?
Are there any settings to be changed in the superUser.apk?
Please help!!
Thanks a ton!!
Superuser not working
One more thing.
when I tried to update SU binary file,
I got following:
Downloading manifest .. OKAY!
parsing manifest.. Okay!
Latest Version = 3.0.3.2
Checking installed version .. legacy
Fixing database .. okay!
checking for busybox .. not found
Downloading custom busybox .. okay!
checking md5sum ... okay!
checking current install path .. fail!
Failed to find current installed su binary. Update cannot continue.
Does this mean I have to re-root the KF or just install the su binary file? how to do that?
Thanks!
Download the latest kindle fire utility and rerun it for permanent root.
Known Tricks
If you end up stuck at the yellow triangle, in KF Utility select Boot Normal, wait for it to say <waiting for device> and then press and hold the power button 20 seconds until the fire turns off, then when its off turn it back on. This sometimes happens, I have yet to find a clean solution If you end up stuck with a yellow triangle, do not EVER unplug it. Leave it plugged in. Check the windows drivers to make sure it isnt showing as "kindle" again. Fastboot is different and can cause this.
Please note: If your device can't be seen in fastboot mode, please make sure to install the drivers packaged with this, as it will show up afterwards. You can use the install_drivers.bat with the device plugged in for this.
Copied from the instructions of the kindle fire utility
Above are the tricks if you get stuck but after root install twrp then install fff
I would assume that your not rooted sounds that way to me.
By the way the yellow triangle will be replaced with the new bootloader a white kindle and a blue fire this will be considered the yellow triangle in the description. Good luck
Install permanent root
Install twrp
Install fff
All should be the newest at this point hopefully
Thanks ThePooch.
So, apparently I have to re-root my KF as for some reason it was not rooted correctly. Right?
I believe so the worst that could happen is it could fail if the file already exists but let's hope it goes fine

You don't necessarily have to let KFU do its entire "rooting" process.
If you can get into recovery and you are comfortable with adb, you can follow the "Rooting the stock software" section in this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638452
to push the 'su' binary into the /system partition and set ownership/permissions.
If you are not comfortable with that, you can use KFU, but it will be doing a lot of extraneous things that you probably don't need.
Under extras you will put on Google frame work and go launcher after you have confirmed bootloader recovery and root note that the market can only be seen using go launcher not the kindle one.
---------- Post added at 12:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 AM ----------
The easiest way to test root is to download an app that will request root permissions like root explorer for instance if you open the app and you don't see a dialogue pop up requesting permission its very likely that it isn't rooted.
Read-Only file system
Thanks Kinfauns and ThePooch for tips.
@kinfauns, I tried following the steps given in "Rooting the stock software" section of the given link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638452
However, when I tried to push su binary file to system folder
adb push C:\kfu\software\su /system/xbin/
I got following message:
failed to copy 'su' to 'system/xbin/su': Read-only file system.
How can I change the permissions of the folder to copy su file?
I tried using shell command:
adb shell chmod 755 /system
However, I got the same message again "Read-only file system"
Please help!!
nevermind I see your on windows 7 like me. adb shell mount system will mount system to read/ write
its all in kinfauns post you just need to be it recovery to execute the commands I believe I would paste it here but its just as easy to read them from there
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su not 755 you can probably safely copy and paste the commands from his post right into cmd he has it written up very nicely

I think you may be trying to do this while booted into the system software. That won't work because you don't have root access there and you won't be able to mount (or remount) a partition without those privileges. The rest of it won't work without R/W access to the partition, as you've already seen.
To be clear, the device needs to be booted into recovery (TWRP or CWMR) where you do have root privileges. Make sure you start with step one to get the system partition mounted. If successful, "mount" will provide no output.

Relax and take a deep breath. Panic is your enemy. Your situation is not as bad as it may seem.
Having said that, with the "billion" videos you claimed to have watched, surely you must have seen ADB mentioned...once or twice? Have you attempted to use ADB for part of what it is intended...to transfer (push) a ROM to your sdcard?
Same issue with me

I have tried kfu utility, i have downloaded stock from amazon site only to get an error with update.zip, and now I am trying to use my mac. I don't know what else to do!!!!
I can tell you how to get a ROM installed from a PC...
Download a ROM zip file. I use the CM10.2 nightly build with 3.0.72 kernel (see that thread under development). Copy the downloaded zip file to the same folder on your PC that your adb.exe is in. Boot the Kindle into TWRP. Press Advanced and ADB Sideload. Slide the slider. Plug the Kindle into the PC. In a command prompt on your PC go into the folder where you ADB.exe is. Type adb sideload filename.zip (use the filename of the ROM zip file you downloaded). That should get a ROM on your kindle that you can boot into at least. If you use a Cyanogenmod ROM, don't forget to download the compatible GAPPS zip for it and copy it to internal storage on the Kindle and use TWRP to install that zip file.
You can also look here for zip files. I don't know if the amazon-OS zip file would work to restore you to original or not, though.

It should be. You want to look for adb.exe . I use KFFirstAide so my adb.exe file is in C:\KFFirstAide. There might also be a sub folder called "stuff" that I think some of the utilities have adb.exe in.

So you should have downloaded the file: cm-10.2-20130731-UNOFFICIAL-otter2.zip and that file should be in the same folder on your PC as the adb.exe file is.
You will boot your Kindle into TWRP. Press Advanced and then ADB Sideload. Plug your Kindle into a USB port on your PC.
From the cmd box, you will type CD C:\folder In place of folder you put in the path to the adb.exe file, for me it is C:\KFFirstAide, buy yours will probably be different.
Once you are in the same folder with the adb.exe file and the zip file that you downloaded, you will type "adb sideload cm-10.2-20130731-UNOFFICIAL-otter2.zip" without the quotes. The zip file should be copied to a temporary location on the Kindle and then TWRP should flash it.
You should then be able to boot the Kindle into CyanogenMod. Next you will have to find the gapps zip file that goes with the version of CM10.2 that you installed, copy the gapps zip file to the "sdcard" on the Kindle. Reboot into TWRP and install the gapps zip file. Also, don't forget to turn on ADB (or USB Debugging) under the Developer Options in the system settings.
After you install the gapps file, you will have a complete ROM and ADB access again.
Sorry I can't help more with going back to stock ROM, I am out at sea at the moment on USS Nimitz and don't have a very good internet connection.

Assuming that you extracted the KFFirstaide to your C:\ drive....
This is for Windows 7, but it should be close for Windows XP too:
Click on your Start button, then All Programs, then Accessories. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator. (I don't know if that is necessary, but I do it). Click OK or Yes to the windows prompt asking if you want to run it as Administrator. When the command prompt window opens, enter CD C:\KFFirstaide (again, assuming that is where you extracted the KFFirstaide zip file to). You did extract it after you downloaded it, right? and not just copy the zip file?
Now type DIR *.EXE one of the files listed in the listing should be adb.exe.
Now type DIR *.ZIP one of the files listed in the listing should be the CM10.2 zip file that you downloaded.
If you see those two files, it means you extracted the KFFirstaide correctly and you have the CM10.2 zip file in the right place and your command prompt is pointed to the right folder. Now if you type adb by itself, you should see all the options for adb listed. If that works, then you should be able to boot into TWRP, start ADB Sideload on the Kindle, plug it into the computer and then do adb sideload cm-10.2-20130731-UNOFFICIAL-otter2.zip on your computer and it should work. Note that sideload is only one word.
If you don't see adb.exe listed in the directory above, then search for it on C:\ using the Windows search function to figure out where it is.

Need help getting Fire Fire Fire and TWRP and Cyanogenmod on Kindle Fire 6.3.3

I've been trying on Windows, and followed the instructions, but when the Kindle rebooted, I didn't see any recovery menu. On Ubuntu now, and I installed Soupkit, adb, and fastboot. But I don't know what to do with these in Linux. I tried one guide, and it tried to load u-boot.bin, which wasn't included in the Soupkit install, and it turns out that Soupkit installed files in the wrong directory, so I tried making the directory path, and copying the files over there, and downloaded the u-boot.bin file I just ended up noticing and putting it in both directories, and it still wouldn't work.
Also, am I supposed to install Fire Fire Fire before TWRP?

Know how I go about getting fff installed? I tried looking up "Install Fire Fire Fire Kindle 6.3.3" and other similar searches, all I got was how to unbrick with twrp and stuff like that.
Edit: nvm, didn't notice the link. I tried Soupkitchen without the Kindle plugged in. Am I supposed to run it with it plugged in? I tried to run Soupkitchen again, but it's not letting me now.

Edit: nvm, didn't notice the link. I tried Soupkitchen without the Kindle plugged in. Am I supposed to run it with it plugged in? I tried to run Soupkitchen again, but it's not letting me now.

I rooted it with Saferoot. Ran a root check app to make sure, and it said it's rooted. I tried following the instructions on the page you linked but it ends up pointing to Soupkit and it says no such file or directory when I try the push command.
I have adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and u-boot.bin in the Soupkit directory. I used the official Soupkit download, through terminal.

Kindle must be in fastboot mode to use SoupKit.
If windows command prompt says " it says no such file or directory when I try the push command."
adb/fastboot files are not in same older as command prompt is pointing to.

I have the exe files in the Soupkit folder. Is there anything I'm missing that I need to get fbmode to work? I'll go look around for a pack.

yes, SoupKit can not put the Kindle Fire with system version 6.3.3 in fastboot mode, you need to manually push the files with adb

I have the fbmode file. I always get stuck at the push command. I know I have the files that are needed, and I have two Soupkit folders just in case. One in jason/bin and the other in bin. I even tried copying the files in the files folder directly into the Soupkit folder, still no joy. I have adb.exe, fastboot.exe, fbmode.exe, and u-boot.bin and haven't messed around with any other folders I think. This is a sample of my terminal text.
[email protected]:~$ adb push fbmode /data/local/tmp
bash: /home/jason/bin/SoupKit/files/adb: No such file or directory
According to http://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
enter and run this command:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
And you're all set up! You can send commands to your device from any terminal window.

It says nothing was upgraded, and I already have the newest version. And when I try the push command, I still get the same error. Tried skipping ahead to adb shell and still getting a no such file or directory error. I downloaded the files that were linked in the guide, and I'm pretty sure I'm missing certain files, but I forgot what those were. I borked my bootloader when trying to use EasyBCD to replace Android x86 with Ubuntu. Ended up plugging in my spare drive and grabbing Ubuntu off of that, and loading it from my USB, so I have an OS again, but the files I had were lost, so I've been having to hunt down missing files.
Edit: I have Superuser on my Kindle. I wonder if there's anything I can do from there to make things easier.

Bricked Fire Phone after unroot.

While trying to get Android Pay to work I removed root from my phone using the option in Kingroot's menu and then restarted. Now FireOS doesn't load and doing a factory restart from recovery doesn't do anything either.
I thought I'd just sideload 4.6.3 and restart from scratch, but when I connect my phone in 'sideload from adb' mode from recovery I only get a "Fire" device in device manager. After a minute it gets an error "Device Cannot Start"
Manaully scanning for hardware changes doesn't give me my "Android Composite Device ADB Interface"
Sounds like you don't have the ADB drivers installed correctly. See this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62844581&postcount=14
Thank You. That's exactly what was wrong.
I didn't think was would be the problem since I had used that 15 second adb installer last night to get adb working before I messed everything up this morning.
In recovery mode I'm sure it connected to my computer as a different device!
Thanks again.

The problem could be the filename. Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer download the 4.6.3 update as a .zip file. If your folder options are not set to display all files extensions, go to Veiw> Options> Change folder and search options> View>. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and click OK. Check the filename for update.bin, if the filename is update.bin.zip, changing it to update.bin should correct your problem.
If the fielname is correct, the file path could be the problem. Try entering the complete path to the file, use quotes around the file path if there are any spaces in the file path (for me the file path is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot\update.bin").
If you still can't install the update, then see Problem with "cannot read update.bin" in 4.6.4 to 4.6.3 downgrade on how to use Safestrap to install update 4.6.3.
Hi
Even my phone is bricked but when I try to sideload update.bin , cmd prompt throwing error as " cannot update.bin". My fire phone is identified by windows 10 with adb drivers.
Can someone suggest how can we fix this issue?
Thanks

Thanks, I will try what you had suggested on windows 10 but I can not use safestrap as except " amzon" logo I can not see anything after power on so I am getting to apply update from ADB using buttons. So how can I install safestrap and king root without turning on browser on mobile.
Thanks

You won't be able to install Safestrap or Kingroot unless you can bootup your Fire Phone, so sideloading the update is your only option. It appears that your ADB drivers are installed correctly, just to be sure, see DePingus's post.
Thanks, it worked. My fire phone is up.
Hi a little help if you will please.
I've rooted then installed safestrap. Done back up, factory reset then Flashed c11 rom. All looked great. Made up with the ROM but I've tried to use kingroot to root again but it won't work. I can get in to safestrap recovery but says it's inactive. I've tried to search for the fix but can't find anything directly for my problem just how to root with kingroot. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Can't unbrick it.... tried everything
Hi guys, I installed CyanogenMod on my fire phone and it worked for a while... then started rebooting, but before I could do anything it was just rebooting all the time, then I did a hard reset on fire phone and after that... only adb sideload, safestrap was gone... but... adb works fine, everything gets installed, but after rebooting amazon fire phone is lost in a endless rebooting cycle (just shows up the amaozn logo... if powered via USB it tries to do something else, amazon logo shows up for maybe 2-3s longer....
Boys... did I brick my phone forever? Thanks
Hannes

Trying to Flash the Stock Rom Via ADB sideload

I am Trying to flash the stock rom via side load i flashed that few days back to at that time it was flashed success fully but now it always gives me error
Code:
"C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb sideload OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_039_all_1701140132_de9036f11e2246a8.zip
loading: 'OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_039_all_1701140132_de9036f11e2246a8.zip'
* cannot read 'OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_039_all_1701140132_de9036f11e2246a8.zip' *
C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb sideload <OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_039_all_1701140132_de9036f11e2246a8.zip>
The syntax of the command is incorrect.
C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>"
Mine would not sideload either. I downloaded the zip file to my PC, connected the phone to the PC, put the phone in USB mode, dragged the zip file from the PC to the phone root directory, disconnected from the PC, and flashed the ROM from the phone hard drive.
Faulty ADB drivers I guess. If you have TWRP you can try adb push name /sdcard/

Isn't obvious this is not a driver problem?! Read the error message that is staring him in the face. He has not specified the correct file/path.

Second one is a invalid command because of those <> first command mainly happenda with wrong drivers, I and many other get the error it is quite unexplainable.
Any resolution to this? I'm getting the same problem, saying it cannot read the zip file when I try to sideload
trying to update my wifes phone now. getting the same issue. i typed in adb devices and it shows up, so i know its not driver related. wonder if its a faulty image? ill keep trying
---------- Post added at 03:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55 AM ----------
funny i think i just foud the issue. someone posted saying older adbs cant see larger than 1gb (i have a opo so never even heard of this). ill give it a try and report back...
this is the adb ill be using https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Okay, now that may work for others but I could not get it... Sorry
I ended up just removing the encryption, flashing twrp, and flashing OOS that way. Make sure to make a backup... I made a backup of everything... Except contacts because I thought gmail handled that like on my phone. I left my wife a note saying sorry for when she wakes up ha.
At least the annoying updates available message will be gone that we've had since Aug or something
I was getting the exact same errors and was frustrated to no end..... till I figured out how to fix it =)
I had to use this program on my adb.exe to make it large address aware
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
Grab the laa_2_0_4.zip from the website, open and run as administrator
Click on select executable and go to where your adb.exe is installed, for me it was in C:\adb\adb.exe
Then make sure the checkbox on step 2 is selected and then hit save
I rebooted my PC and upon using the adb on reboot I was finally able to flash the stock OOS roms via adb sideload on my phone
Yipeee!!
