DLNA for Nokia WP7 (Beta) - Nokia Lumia 900

Hi Guys,
Just to let you know in case some of you haven't realized it Nokia is Testing a DLNA App called 'PLAY TO' for Nokia WP7 Devices.
Its still in Beta testing and there are mixed reviews where some have got it to work straight away while others have had minor glitches.
Unfortunately for me it doesn't seem to locate any device at all. ..( PC , SONY Bravia TV or my SGS2)
I have an SGS2 which connects to my PC and TV via its 'ALL SHARE' so I guess its the PLAY TO app
I have a sim free Nokia Lumia 900 UK version
Would Appreciate if you would let me know if the app works for you guys and please post your
Lumia Model (UK or USA etc)
TV Model
PC modem etc
Thank You

Thanks man. I hadn't seen this in the Beta Labs (mustve missed it). But, surely wanted to be able to use DLNA capabilities as it's the only thing I missed since moving from my Titan.

Works perfect with my Xbox... must be in Media Center. I have not tried with my Grace internet Radio, but it does show up. Have not tried with my Roku, but that might be interesting.
(Update) Forgot: Play to is only pics and video... no music... so it sees Grace but no play to: No Roku

Works fine direct to my sony blu-ray disk player (BDP-BX58). More polished than the HTC Media Connect I used before on my HD7...

It probably plays mp3 from your device. I haven't tried.
It plays podcasts and pictures to my Samsung TV over wifi. It also streams to xbox no problem.

It's glitchy for me. Pictures work fine but streaming video is an issue. I turned of the tv and rebooted the phone. After that it connected and played. The real annoyance is it has disconnected multiple times while I was watching a video.
DLNA is pretty cool but you are going to look like a total douche if it keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes. Glad this thing is in BETA. Hopefully they will get the kinks worked out.

Touch Hd streaming BBC iPlayer

EDIT: Have discovered the problem is my bebox router, read post #10 for more details if you're having the same problem I did......
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi guys, i've been looking around for the past 2 days including searching through these forums for ages and I can't quite find the answer i'm looking for. A few threads have come close but don't really help because they're not
specifically about this problem.
I've got the Touch HD it came installed with pvplayer,
when I go to the BBC iPlayer mobile site the videos hang on the connecting screen.
I've seen a video of the htc Touch HD running Iplayer but the media player the browser links to isn't the one I have.
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1902#comment-10175
That's the page I saw the video on.
I tried installing the Htc Streaming Media app, if i'm running that i get it
to buffer and I get audio but no video.
The toolbar also looks really small and it's garbled on the bottom right hand side of the screen. so i'm thinking I might have an old version or something.
So the question is.....
Does anyone know what player the guy in the video is using?
and if it's a different version of the Htc Streaming Media app
where can I get it.
Any help appreciated, oh and sorry if it's covered elsewhere, i've been going through these forums for ages trying to find it but all the answers seem to be relating to old hacks before the BBC started supporting the phone or people
going "runs great now" without saying what they're using to do it.
(originally posted in the general discussion by accident, no flaming please)
EDIT: I've been told by someone at wmpoweruser that it's the default player that comes with the phone, strangely I've never seen it, now i'm wondering
if there's a specific build from orange without the player. I don't want to do a hard reset to check just yet (i've spent the last week getting everything on there
that I need and I don't feel like starting from scratch)
if anyone knows of a .cab file with the "default" htc streaming app for the touch HD i'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Ive got mine from orange and it is included, and iplayer works.
I think it only works over wifi though, i could get it to work over 3g or when plugged into my PC.
Mike.
I got mine from orange too, but it hangs on the loading screen.

what player is it using to stream?
mine automatically goes to pvplayer, I can't find the htc default software anywhere.
pvplayer just stops at connecting.
Having the same problem.
iPlayer launched PVPlayer and then it just hangs on "Connecting...."
Phone from Orange also.
im on orange and it seems to work fine, still in 'Beta' tho.
Catinthehat: Does yours load up in PVPlayer or a different video player?

I get the same stuck on connecting when using m.youtube.com
(coreplayer can do it but I wanted to check the player was working)
are you using a bebox router? i've seen someone else on wmpoweruser had
the same problem, switched routers and it worked.
i'm on bebox too but don't have a spare router to check.... maybe thats
the problem.
I am using a bebox router which may be the issue.
I did manage to get audio using an old version of the HTC Streaming Media Player but no video and the menu's were all corrupt.
I'll try from different wifi

ok cool let me know how you get on.
i don't want to go buying a router just to check
EDIT:
Discovered it's almost definately the router.
i've gone back to the standard pvplayer and I think it should work without tweaks with a different router.
to explain why i think that's the case i'll explain
i had to do a few things.....
while stuck on connecting using wifi I copied the stream file from the opera tempdownload folder
to my storage card
because pvplayer will delete a temp stream from iplayer after you stop it (confused me for a bit
because i couldn't figure out where iplayer sent em and the other streams from different sites hadn't deleted themselves)
I zipped the file in a temp folder then extracted
it again so i'd keep a copy.
I turned off wifi and turned on my data connection.
I then ran the stream file with pvplayer... it got past connecting!!
buffered and started to run.... ok it stopped every 2 seconds to rebuffer for about 10 seconds so it was unwatchable
because it's meant to be a wifi quality stream and i was running on 3g but it actually got past connecting!
so it must be my bebox router not letting me connect....
interesting side note that i discovered
you can probably run iplayer without using wifi if you grab the stream file at a wifi spot
then copy the file to a different place ... probably work ok on hsdpa connection
haven't had chance to check yet. :>
You can try this.

Awesome app - still in 0.4 and a bit buggy but works in WVGA!! Best picture possible.
To stream use with tcpmp http://rghost.ru/40265 or coreplayer. Just ensure in those apps in permissions you add .mov files as assosicated otherwsie it will just download them.

thanks for the heads up just edited my last post to explain that it's almost definately my router, i've been keeping track of that iplayer app and posting back to craftyb the bugs for the touch hd
also edited my first post to explain that i've discovered the problem (probably usefull for someone, i wish more people would do the same )
ive worked out why it hangs....
its to do with ports and blocking them, at my girlfriends i connect to iplayer via wifi, (also with the pvplayer app on orange branded handset)
i need to find out which ports need to be open so i can add the app to the router, that or try get the silly router app to not be so strict!!

uses streamiing media for ppc. standard with stock touch hd.

Hi Zooby, I can confirm that its definitely the bebox. I have the 700 series speedtouch. I disconnected it and used a friends netgear modem and could stream iplayer beautifully to my HD and Polaris. The solution apparently is to forward ports on the bebox for the hd and apply the chosen port settings to htc streaming player. I couldnt get it to work so i bought a netgear dg834gt. The dg834n works well too. If you figure out how to port forward the bebox for the Touch HD, please let us know.

i've tried a few different port ranges already, i saw someone on another thread talking about a specific range working but it didn't work for me
(the guy tried 4105 - 4125)
i've searched through forums and iplayer tech support pages for the ports iplayer mobile uses, can't seem to find them.
google is not my ally on this one.
will login to Be forums at some point see if anyone there has had the same problem.
I hope I don't have to buy a new router, I only just finished messing around with it to open up the last ethernet port to use on xbox live (for some reason the last port was reserved for other uses as standard).
I think that last port is used by Be techies when you authorise them to remote access your Bebox if you need help with a fault etc. I did search the Be forums a while back but nothing useful. I bet it's something really simple though. The problem is getting information from someone who's got it working. Someone on Be in the Uk, using a Bebox, has a pda phone and accesses iplayer(from within the UK). A bit of a tall order, i think.

yeh i know but i had an extra non wifi device i needed to put on.....
i've checked bebox forums, nobody seems to have a clue.
pretty much everyone on there is buying a different router.
i've tried a few options with the router, i just can't seem to open it up.
(changed firmware 3 times, telnet to change nat, specific ports related to the iplayer download manager... trust me... loads of things.)
i'm not gonna go buying a new router just to watch iplayer while in my house since i can do that from my pc anyway, for anyone that desperate to watch it from home on a bebox router.... buy a new router.

[Q] DLNA in Xperia Play

Hi All,
Does Xperia Play support DLNA, because I see it as listed in gsmarena but nothing in Google on how to configure and stream via DLNA.
Anyone tried it and use DLNA to stream video / game / photos.
The phone is awesome but lack to HDMI or TV Out means the only option is to stream via DLNA if it supports, can someone confirm.

We have an app called Media Server ("Servidor de Medios" for me) and I believe it let's you play movies/music/images. I haven't tried it once since I stream directly from my PC to my PS3.
But forget about games, it's been discussed a lot that people is disappointed because we can't play our games in a bigger screen.
So yes, we have DLNA but it won't let you stream your screen. It'll let other devices connect to it and play media files on your phone.
Hi netorino,
Thanks for the reply, so we can stream movies and photos is it, that is still good enough.
Where I can try this app, I couldn't find it in the Android market.
I would want to try this and see how it works.
--

It's pre-installed. I'm not 100% sure on the english name but that should be it.
The way I do it on PC-PS3: Activate software on PC to let streaming. Go on PS3 and look for videos and search for new devices (every time) then it'll show me the hard drive and I'll browse through the folders.
I'm thinking it's the same thing. Open the software on the phone to activate it, it'll probably have some instructions on what to do. Hope it works for you!

You were right, it's just called media server
@maddy- which version of the play do you have?

Mine is Xperia Play R800i, it does not have either "Media Server" installed.
Is it only available in the US versions?
BTW, mine is an Unlocked from UK and running 2.3.4.

Used to be called Media Server (in 2.3.3) but now - for me at least on an unbranded/sim-free UK R800i on 2.3.4 - look for an App installed called Connected Devices
We can also stream to our phones (from say a WD TV Live, or a PC) - use "ES File Explorer" (lan - and search for your WD's IP) and stream via "VPlayer".
I use this method to stream .mkv files from my WD TV Live in my living room via my router to watch movies on my phone in my bedroom - works great .
The only issue I have is that vplayer is not free, and you can't stream via MoboPlayer (I don't think it buffers, it tries to download the whole movie). So if anyone knows any free media player that lets you strem (buffer) .mkv files then let me know.
I you want to stream from your phone to another device there are various free apps you can use; BubbleUPNP, Connected devices (preinstalled), and softMedia player
Thanks
there is a Connected Devices thing, I will give it a try today.
Try this http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...our-images-in-a-big-screen-with-vscreens-com/
but you can only view images and videos..
It is great, but if the TV does not have the WiFi then it wont work fine, but for Laptop and to stream to desktop computers this is great indeed.

DLNA issues

I have a PS3 and Apple TV. So far, I have been unable to get the built-in DLNA on my One X to see either. I installed iMediashare, which has always worked on my other android phones and it doesn't seem to work correctly.
At this point, I can't seem to push any media from my phone to other devices.
Anyone know of an app that works, or am I doing something wrong?
Update: I have tried pretty much every DNLA app on the Play Store and none of them work. Most of them lock up my wifi and I have to reset the connection to get internet working again. WTF? Why do the simplest things (voice dialing, DNLA, multitasking) not work on this phone?
Just tested iMediashare on my One X and it is working just fine. So it shoud work...

Yeah, I got an e-mail from the Developer. Turns out, it was something wrong with their servers. It's odd, because my Nexus was working fine at the time the One X wasn't. It's working fine for me now, too.

Don't know if any asker still needs this, but here goes. I was also quite stumped as to how to stream media from HOX to PS3.
After quite extensive searching high and low on the interjacks, I come to these conclusions/solutions:
1. HTC purposely make it difficult/impossible to simply share media with DLNA clients JUST TO SELL their MediaLink HD.
2. For those who wants to stream their media (videos/pics/music), especially to Playstation 3 (PS3 - [for search engines]) simply download the free SKIFTA from Google Play. Instructions are straight forward, I was playing silly videos and HD trailers off my phone in no time.
Press that little thanks button if this has been helpful Thanks.
Found this thread through a search.
How is browsing other devices' content via DNLA done on the One X?
Mine is stock, S720E, CID_001 running Android 4.0.4.
From the gallery, whether viewing a picture or a movie, More > Select player shows my TV (connected to the same SSID as the One X). Hit it and it the content on my TV screen.
However from the TV, I am unable to browse the One X, like I am able to browse my SIII (GT_I9300).
Could anyone help please?

Allshare cast using default video player

Hi guys,
Im using the default video player for my vids. There are some videos(Taken on iPhone 4S) which i have stored in my SGS3. They play fine on the device but when i try to stream them to my TV using all share cast i get an error message on my TV(Samsung) saying Codec not available.
Anyone know of all apps I can use to share videos on my TV?
Thanks
I didn't think the AllShare Cast was not available yet.
Ive got a samsung UA46D5000 Led smart Tv. Its got a built in wifi so i don't need the all share dongle. I can stream it directly from my SGS3 to the TV.

It’s my understanding that Allshare Cast is not available yet. When it is available there’ll be another option under Settings/Wireless and networks/More settings.
If you want to stream video to your TV then use Settings/Wireless and networks/Nearby devices, this turns the S3 into a DLNA server allowing you to share your media files with your Smart TV.

Hi,
I can stream just fine. The issue is that some formats dont play on the tv. It just says codec not found whereas they play fine on the device itself. Shouldnt it be able to stream any format that can be played on the device?

It depends on the TV, the TV needs to have the appropriate codec to play it. They’ve got better over time and my D7000 plays more or less any format I throw at it. I can only assume that your D5000 doesn’t have the required codec. The only alternative would be to transcode the video into one that is supported by your TV.

First of all streaming videos to your tv via dlna has nothing to do with all share cast, which means your device's screen will be entirely mirrored on your dlna capable tv (not necessarily samsung), using a certified dongle.
Second, the error message you get is due to the fact that your tv does not have the appropriate codec to play your file (the tv's media player is used for the playback). The exact same error message you will get if you try to play the same file with your tv via a usb flash drive or external hdd using the tv's buit in media player.

The irony is that if Allshare Cast were available now, codec compatibility wouldn’t be a problem, the latest Samsung SmartTV's will just mirror anything the S3 can display without a dongle, and the same with the dongle but the TV only needs an HDMI port, it doesn’t need to be DLNA capable.

It would be a bit much to expect a TV made some years ago to be fully compatible with devices made today. Video compression and new codecs are being developed and improved all the time. Having said that it may be worth checking the Samsung support site to make sure you have the latest firmware for your TV.

I must admit, your post frightened me a bit and the first thing I did was to make a short 1080p movie with my SGSIII and stream it to my Samsung LE32C650 tv. Well now I'm ok, since it worked just fine, so you definitely must check to see if you have the latest firmware for your tv. The easiest way to do that is directly from your tv's menu, under Support - Software Upgrade - By Online. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Well, I just got prompted to update for the dongle software so why don't you give it a try to see if it works with the smart tv, without the actual dongle. I will order the dongle next week, as it sounds much better than the wired microusb to hdmi adapter.

I tried to send a video I recorded on my S3 to my Samsung UE40D6575 LED Smart-TV. It came up on the tv-screen if I wanted to play the material from I9300, though I was stupid enough to press cancel because my kida wanted to watch television. Now I can't seem to get this to function again. I have deleted the I9300 from the tvs "NO"-list (???), so that shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone know what I mean, and what can I do about it (if anything)?
Thanks for answering!
I guess restart both the tv and the sgs3
Or go to your wifi and press Forget so it forgets the network and then reconnect.
Both the tv and phone have been restarted several times with no luck
Try reseting your TV.

Is there any info about what Samsung consider 'latest SmartTV'?
Will C series be able to accept Allshare Cast?
Currently on my UE46C8000 I have (under Allshare setup menu) options for 'ScreenShare' (where TV auto-recognized and allowed my 'GT-I9300'. But is ScreenShare same as AllshareCast?
Also, is AllshareCast app already available for S3 (but just not working), or it will be available later on? Since I cant find it on phone, nor on any app store.

I haven’t found any official info on which TV’s will be supported. So this is pure speculation but I’m guessing that it will support the same TV’s that Samsung Smart View on Play supports, which still isn’t available for the S3 yet.
[Supported Models]
- Samsung Smart TV released in 2011: Models greater or equal to LED 7000, PDP 8000
- Samsung Smart TV released in 2012: Models greater or equal to LED ES7500,(Models greater or equal to LED ES7000 in Europe, Models greater or equal to PDP E8000 Models(E7000 Models in North America)

FL04 jellybean and Samsung allshare media hub at sprint

I went yo the sprint store to pay my bill and saw this on the way out. It apparently, to the uninitiated, acts like a router but only connects with allshare and HDMI to the TV. A salesman and myself tried playing with it. I'm on calkulin el29 2.8.1. and couldn't connect to the in store model. Upon further investigation, it only works with the note 1&2 and the s3. I couldn't figure out why or what's the difference that those devices have that mine doesn't. Could it be jellybean? I installed fl04 but couldn't make it back to test it out. I'm assuming it's a jb thing. So the other hardware has nfc, big f'in deal. You have to be extremely close for that to work. It can't be that it's on the n band of wifi, can it? Afaik, this phone can go dual band. Does anyone have an explanation or work around for this? I've got a roku and wdtv and Panasonic bluray and my gf has a Sony br. Very few file types actually play on these dlna devices from the phone. I've tried allshare and imediashare and a few others but if one won't play them then none of them will work. I thought there might be such a thing as a device like this one that its only function is being a dlna receiver, but I can't find anything other than this. Apparently HTC makes something similar but it only works on their phones. What the heck?

The media server and display device need to be connected to the same network.
In your example, your phone needs to be connected to the same wireless network as the shop's TV.
Allshare is just Samsung's name for DLNA media sharing. Fun to play with in the home.
FL04
Just fyi, since the update to JB, Samsung has added in some media component to the movie player so you can stream to a samsung smart tv. This feature wasnt available in GB or ICS
You can do this with photos in the gallery app as well...

Okay. Then maybe I should flash back to fl04 and see if it connects. I should download the user manual for it and see if you have to connect the hub to your network or the phone connects directly to the hub. I don't have any other dlna devices besides the phone that could feed the hub. The sales people said that it will only work with Samsung phones and allshare. That's too bad that it isn't your standard dlna hub, but it looks like its software between the phone and hub are made to be proprietary. I hate crap like that. Plus, their asking price of $100 is too much IMO. I'd pay $50 at the most for it. That was the general consensus with reviews of it. It works with only a limited amount of new phones and it's too expensive for what it is.
Dlna, across the board, has one requirement; same network as stated above. Have the shop attach your device to their network and it'll work. It's not proximity like nfc.

hmm
if you have a wirless router in your house, you do not need the allshare media hub as long as you have a samsung smart tv (not sure about other smart tv manufacturers)
When I ran the all share app it browsed my PC then streamed a video from the PC to the phone, then my Sony TV switched inputs by its self and started playing the movie on the tv without wires
You dont even need a smart TV, I play music, videos, slideshows, etc... through my xbox all I do is choose the switch player option
