Getting fed up with DooMLords Wifi Modules. THEY KEEP DISCONNECTING - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason out of the blue, DooMLords Wifi Modules just start randomly disconnecting WHILE STILL SAYING IT'S CONNECTED!!
I have the Doom Kernel and I'm on 2.3.3 with an R800x on UK Firmware Timescape
Never had this issue before. I even tried Reflashing the Modules and that didn't help. Anyone know what the heck the issue is here?
Thanks in Advance for all your help.

Are you sure is the modules? Have you tried using the default ones to see if they work? I don't think his WiFi modules are very different from the Sony ones.

Since I got Doom Kernel I NEED to have the Doom Modules and this only happened with THESE Modules.

I know that you need them, I'm using doomkernel too, but I don't have any problems at all... I meant that you should install a stock kernel with the stock modules to see if they work...

I have also been having issues with this as well lately. I am on stock rom with doomkernel and have the same issue.
I have found that if I just go to the file in question, (dont have my phone with me) i think its system, lib, modules, wifi, then I long press on the file and select permissions and i check mark all the boxes. then reboot and that will do the trick for a few days but again it starts to have connection issues after about a 3-5 days.

Well I recently got a new battery and I'm loving it and I wanted the best Kernel for Gaming and Battery Life and overall smoothness so I heard Doom's was good.
I'm also thinking of going R800x ICS so which is the BEST one for my phone and should I go 2.3.4 or 2.3.3? Also which ICS HAS PROPER VIDEO RECORDING?
I ask this because if Darkforests kernel is better, then I'll use his.

I am not saying I dont love the DoomKernel, because I do. Tried other kernels and I always come back to DK. Just saying that I too occasionally get the wifi bug. Tried other wifi modules and that either kills the wifi entirely or it does the same issue.

I don't get any wifi disconnects, but after leaving my phone on for a few hours with wifi off, then trying to turn wifi on, it usually results in an error and I have to reboot to get wifi

If its such an issue just flash to a stock rom and modify it how you like.
(this will replace your kernel) -- Also will allow you to test if its DK's folly.

Does Darkforest have a wifi module or does his work in the kernel? If not and he does, can I use his Wifi Modules with DooMLords Kernels?

I'm pretty sure both do and I am also pretty sure the modules are the same just have build number string changed to match the build.prop string.

WTF is up with my 3G?

My phone has always randomly had a little glitch. For some reason, once every so often my 3G icon just disappears and stuff like my internet and market dont work. SMS still works fine though. Normally just a reboot fixes the problem but today I had to pull the battery. This happened even when I was fully stock but now I'm running DC 3.2.3 still with the stock kernal. Any similar experiences?
Running all-stock with no root. Happens to me also.
Full bars for signal (calls and texts) but the 3G icon stops transferring. I just put the DATA widget on my homescreen and toggle it. Not really a big deal...so far.
Same things happening to me it wont connect to 3g and freezes most of the time. Just started about 2 days ago

Anyone know anything about this problem? My phone now randomly restarts even when im not using it from trying to connect to 3g im guessing. Keyboard also stops working randomly

are you running a rom?
...If you are you should try flashing a stock rooted and see if the problem still exists. If it does you may want to try to unroot, go back to stock and update everything. Then you can narrow down if it is rom/software/hardware related

I was also running stock rooted at first. Here is a weird update I just came across though. I've installed (and uninstalled) SwitchPro, which is basically a more customizable widget than the stock power control widget, 3 times now. And every time I add the actual widget to my home screen my 3G instantly disappears.....wtf? I uninstall it and reboot my phone and it's back to normal.
I'm gonna dig in to this a bit after I get back from the gym.

I just meant that if you unroot the phone, make sure your radio's are updated to stock, update your profile and prl, then you could determine if it is hardware related or maybe you just have a bad signal?

I think he means Device Self Service. Updating your PRL, Firmware and Profile.
I forgot to mention that when my 3G becomes "sketchy" this is the 1st thing I do. After that do a soft-reset and pull the battery out.
##RTN# - enter MSL - click menu, reset.
This is the only way I've found to fix this.
It wipes out ALL of your information so make sure you are backed up and synced. It is just like getting the phone new out of the box - it will auto-activate and you should be good to go.
If you don't have your MSL, call Sprint technical support and ask for it.
Thats pretty disapointing that that seems to be the only awnser. Will try when iget back from my vacation. The problem that makes me really mad is that it reboots randomly even when the screen is off in my pocket. Any backup app recomendations?

Have you even bothered to troubleshoot your own issue? Obviously since wifi works fine for almost everyone including me it's something with your setup. What do you have your wifi sleep mode set to? Try changing your frequency mode to just 2.4. Have you tried any different networks?

It's a known bug to some. I had a thread about this issue I believe. It had left for a few builds and then reappeared to some on the FI25 build. At one point we narrowed it down to a certain routers but no real evidence. It doesn't matter what your settings are in, even if you keep your settings on "keep awake always". The WiFi just stays as if connected but really isn't. It'll show greyed out bars or not active. I gave up and ignore it.
Laughing at some of you comments here. YES, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. Different routers, all kinds of wifi settings, even used a root explorer to change some wifi settings. Still issues. I am ignoring it now and was hoping for a fix and it's pissing me off. Looks like it may be a hardware issue on some phones

What exactly should I be looking for in my router settings? Btw, wifi still disconnects on Parandroid JB...wtf. Everything worked fine on GB.
I still have the issue where wifi just sucks down my battery worse than 3G when it idles, but the phone gets plenty of deep sleep. It's happened across roms, fresh wipes and only on ICS and never on any gingerbread setups I've used. I've tried 3 different routers, on different frequencies. I've spent countless hours combing through battery and cpu monitors. My final verdict is that ICS was for the most part a total **** show for this phone, and it's only usable because of the selfless devs who devote their free time to tweaks and builds that get the best they can out of it.
Sorry op, but in my anecdotal example, there is no answer for particular wifi problems on ICS with this phone.

What channel and encryption type are you using (for your main connection)? Also what brands of routers have you tried it on. I don't think it is you, but I am just curious.
I use to use Linksys routers, but the last 2 I had were turds different models, and sent them in for RMA to verify the unit wasn't just a bad unit, now I won't use ANY Cisco product unless I have to (after the routers overheating in the middle of winter in my basement with proper ventilation and sending them back a few times, and their new 'secure' firmware that only allows you to connect via their website back into my local router).
lol don't listen to these people telling you to check the router settings...
It is a bug in ICS (most roms i have tried), i suggest downloading an app called Wi-fi keep alive.

After OTA 4.1.2 Update, having wifi issues/problem

I was using MrRobinson's stock rooted rom. When OTA 4.1.2 came out, I unrooted, installed patch, ran CF-Autoroot then I'm back to rooted again. However I did notice, every now and then, my wifi stays connected but connection dies. Internet connection is simply dead. So I don't get any email notifications if ever I get new emails. To fix this I have to turn wifi off/on and internet is ok again. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I wipe cache/factory reset, odin back to full stock non-rooted, installed OTA then use Exynos Abuse/Exploit to root. I am still experiencing the same issue. Att Smart Wifi is disabled. Wifi is always on under sleep policy. I have scorched the net and I can't find any solutions Any help would be much appreciated.
Mine is on the oem update no root even, and my wifi sucks now. The signal and connection will be good but it can't up or download anything. Wifi speed and cellular data speeds are all sub 1mbps also. ATT wifi is disabled also.
The only thing that helps me is to just pair to another wifi source, and go back if needed. Annoying! I'd love to find some solution also, I don't mind rooting if need be for it also.

You can still do warranty to get a new one just call att and tell them your situation with it. This would be my best recommendation to you. Or just root and keep running roms. This is one phone that I havent had the urge to customize with a rom or anything yet

Thanks for the recommendation but I also felt the same before. I thought the phone was fast enough that I didn't need to try custom roms. After trying Scott's ATT CleanRom SE, that idea was simply change. If you haven't, you should try running custom roms. Although, I would still want to know if there is a solution to this problem when running stock rom.

Perhaps it's a minor bug somewhere and the custom ROMs happen to pull that wireless code piece from something other than official 4.1.2 where the bug (if it is one) is located.

True, but 4.1.1 didn't have this issue. They must have changed something.
I don't know if it is related to the issue in this thread, but I had a problem with the phone since I got it of the WIFI constantly connecting, then disconnecting, then connecting again. I solved it by changing the security model of the router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP128.

Yeah saw that thread somewhere but this is a whole different issue. Wifi stays connected but no connection to the internet. You get connection timeout.
Yeah mine just quits. A note 1, a note 10.1, 2 ipads, 2 iphone 4's, and xperia ion and three separate computers have had zero issues on any of the wifi networks here. In fact, if I leave it be, it will not work on the phone, and it now seems to block all the rest from access! If I turn the wifi off on this, perfect immediately afterward. Strange.

did you try just simply reset your router?
I had all the problems in this thread after 4.1.2 A factory reset fixed it.
I'm using the international ROM (custom but fairly stock) and started experiencing the same issue when I switched ROMs.
Toggling the wifi always fixes the problem, but it's not a permanent solution. The problem seems to happen when the device goes into sleep mode for me.

Older GB baseband on JB

I have an at and using a JB ROM but the newer base bands from the 800i versions are horrible in my area. Usually have to play phone tag to get people to hear me. I can hear them find but they can't hear me. It was the same thing doing an ICS ROM as well. I remember I was able to load different base bands for ICS (can't find the thread anymore). Yea basically that exactly, I wanted to use the patch because -36 is the best for my area. 3G/4G (I have the at&t play so I have 4g) wasnt the big issue because in my area we dont have 4g yet, but if anyone would call (or i would call) when on any of the newer basebands, I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. After playing call tag for awhile, it would work, but if I went somewhere and switched towers, I would have to play "tag" all over again. Being a manger of a store I need to be accessable all the time so it was causing issues with work. Thanks anyway. If anyone DOES happen to get -36 working with some of the JB Roms (I used pacman and turbo to try out) PLEASE post on this thread so I can try it out. I bought the play for gaming, but I kept my PSP. I'm glad I did, the promises from Sony for gaming just have never really panned out on it. I play a little bit on my phone here and there, but I still keep my PSP for mostly everying.

[Q] Random Reboot help, please!

I have a T999V and everytime I try an Android 4.3 rom I get random reboots. It happens most often when I'm in my car, where I listen to music on my stereo via bluetooth, so I can only assume that it has something to do with bluetooth. Everything was fine when I reverted to stock via Odin. I'm using DanKang, but I had the same issue when I flashed CM 10.2. I have logs if someone could tell me how to post them.

Good point. It's this rom, and I assume whatever kernel comes with it.

I've just flashed all of the modems and bootloaders etc for the phone in the hopes that that may help.
Keep in mind that cm roms seem to be known for BT issues. And from what I hear most of the 4.3 cm/aosp roms can be a bit buggy. I still get regular pm's about their problems reading nv data where it appears the imei and other info is lost, when in reality its just not being read.
I'd consider going back to a version that you know to work well for a while.
Or at the very least report your issue in the roms thread to see if anyone directly familiar with it might have an idea for you.
Try a different kernel too. It may be a simple as that for you!

Thank you very much for your help!!!! I'm hoping that you're wrong, but I have a sinking feeling that you're right. I've just reflashed radios etc, so I'll see if that helps. If it doesn't I'll look into another kernel, then I guess it's back to stock if neither works.

I think another Kernel may help. I can safely say Doc is right. The roms are buggy where Bluetooth is concerned. However, it shouldn't make you instant reboot when connecting to bluetooth.
Can you try Slim Rom ?

I know this one is based off of Slim with some minor tweaks, do you think those tweaks could be causing the issues?

Hmm..
I don't know. I went through the Major Changes Dan did to the Rom. There's nothing that jumps at me to suspect the reboots. So may I suggest a different Kernel for you to try ?
While you are at it, Do you want to try a different Modem ? Perhaps the BT/NFC antenna code may be acting up ? Doc's Signature above has the thread with Modems.
Yes! Please do. I will gladly try your suggestions.

Try KT747 Release 10-16. This I am reccomending on the assumption that you are still on DanKang. If not then let me know.
The Kernel comes with a Tweaker App called KTweaker. Leave it alone until you know your reboot problem has gone away.
P. S. - I just realized, your problem only comes in car. Do you know if your phone gets warm when you are listening to music or otherwise using the phone in car ? GSIII variants have a Temperature cut off switch internally. The Phone will reboot if it got too hot. I typically use TempMonitor to check the temperature.
Lots of people have had issues with BT in the car. Almost every time it's due to the manufacturer cutting corners trying to offer features with as little cost. I agree none of this should be causing your reboots. But many use the same Rom/kernel with no such problem, leading me to believe it's either an app or setting and/or how it tries to connect to your car.
You should factory reset, install nothing, and change nothing but your basic initial setup. Now try to connect. If it still crashes, you know it's a problem between the Rom/kernel and stereo. Now try another kernel. If it still happens then I kinda doubt you will solve this using your current Rom. Try stock, just to see if it'll work.

UPDATE: So yesterday I flashed the latest bootloader, modem etc. I've had 2 20+ minute trips in the car connected to bluetooth without a random reboot. I'm not yet calling the issue solved but I'm cautiously optimistic.
THANK YOU for your help!!!!!! I'll report back and try some more of the suggestions if I have any further issues. Once again thank everyone SOOOO much for your help!
