Finally! An HTC One V owner...! And LOVING it! - HTC One V

Bought the baby this friday. Came in a normal box, nothing attractive. But the best part - Manufacturing date - May 2012! Been seeing all these posts about the 'machine' - heating up, patchy colored screens etc etc........Still wanted to take a chance, took it - Worth it!
Came at a price tag of 17,699 INR, with an 8GB standart microsd (sandisk) card. The phone had some 30% battery left in it, so i kept it for charging. After around 2 hours i could feel that the phone was heating up a bit. Removed the charger for like 10 mins, kept it back on, started working fine. In the past 3 days, except for like one or 2 times, never faced the heating Issue.
The OS: Ice-Cream Sandwich, Such a delight! Cant ask for more if you have an ICS tagged alonside The HTC Sense. Makes the user experience quite brilliant! The camera is another feature thats worth mentioning. 5 Mp, but the clarity/Resolution is as good as the one from an 8 Mp. Same with video recording (HD).
Battery life is excellent! Im not a heavy user; 5-6 hrs of internet a day. As of now i have 70% of battery left on my phone, and its been running for about 16 hrs! Unbelievable? Believe it!
Will run some HD games and see how the performance is affected...! Will keep you all posted.
Final verdict:
Look : 9/10
Feel : 9/10
Sensitivity : 8/10
Camera : 9/10 (For a 5 Mp Cam)
Battery : 9/10
Audio : 6.5/10 (Nothing special, even with the beats audio)
Browsing experience : 8/10
My advice? At this price, definitely go for it!!!

On the 31th of May it will be a sunny day! xD

Welcome to the community

I got mine last week, and I must say, I think it's a great phone; although this might be because I'm coming to the One V from an Optimus One. On that regard, I sure hope the community kicks into full gear soon, haha, 'cuz when I got my O1, there was already CM7 and a bunch of other goodies that I can't live without. D:

I also own the ONE V last week. Love the appearance and simple. Only issue is when plug in the headphone I was heard some electric noise.

I've had my one V for a week and a half. It's my first smartphone, so I have no reference point, but it seems pretty good. My next one will have a bigger screen though, because so far I'm using it more like a computer than a phone.
I'm a long time linux geek, so android is right up my alley. Having lots of fun with this site so far, looks like development is just getting started for this phone, looking forward to lots of interesting stuff in the coming months.
So far I've enabled init scripts and added some of the ZV6 tweaks, got SSH going, CWM recovery, etc. Right now I'm using a build of the Titanium kernel for overclocking (running at 1.5).

How's the battery life once you overclock it compared to stock?
Looking at the performance, I wonder if the stock speed is actually underclock, that's how it gets such a good battery life, yet it's so laggy out of the box.

HTC One X now out in Australia

Picked up my unlocked White HTC One X here at a local phone shop in Melbourne Australia today for $668 Aust.
Loving it so far, beautiful screen and resolution and overall feel is very solid and premium.
The Sony Xperia S will be getting sold!
Ask any questions you would like to know answers to and I will do my best to respond..
Congrats mate
Only thing white specific I'm interested in is how easy cleaning the back of the phone is from hand oils, dirt, marks, etc. Someone on youtube shows a pen coming off okay, but don't worry, I won't ask you to test that
Hope the UK retailers get their act in gear and we aren't waiting till estimates like the 10th-12th for Phone.
here's a few things you can test mate, i'd appreciate the response:
- take a 720p and 1080p video and check what bitrate it's recorded at
- take some normal and HDR shots of the same thing and post them
- take a panorama (they supposedly increased the dimensions) and post it
- run a quadrant, antutu, stuff like that and post results
thanks!

Currently got my eyes stuck on the HTC One X at the moment (I'm from Perth, Australia).
Would be awesome if we could get a black/grey one here in Australia, but not a BIG problem (I just dislike anything glossy, to be honest, and the rim around the grey's camera is matte).
Anyway, will see what SGS3 has to offer before I pick between that and the HTC One X.
Looking VERY promising and I'm really excited!

I'm going to give it a chance anyway, since there IS a reason why the SGS2 was king of Android for quite awhile there!
And besides, I'll most likely root the phone and install a custom ROM anyway

That's cool, I'm not a fanboy for any manufacturer or device & don't disregard anyone's opinion.
but SGS2 is still Samsung's flagship device, ICS is its first update to a new android & I cannot believe how poor ICS is for this device.
The design is very poor, it feels nothing like ICS.
It's really laggy & slow compared to the excellent gingerbread rom that samsung developed.
It completely ruined my confidence in Samsung's software development team & forced me to go elsewhere - maybe in the future samsung will improve its software, but for now - i want a change.
Never owned an HTC device before, never used sense & never owned a white phone before, so this is gonna feel completely fresh & new to me - excited!
I predict the sgs3 would have the same 'feel' as SGS2 but faster with better specs, & its this feel I wanted a change from. (not because it's a bad feeling, but I certainly want to feel like I have a new phone, a new experience & new software)
Good luck with your decision making

Definitely! I'm basically just looking at what both has to offer rather than sort of risk jumping into the HTC One X pool then having to come out again when the SGS3 is significantly better.
In other words, I'm looking at which has better features for me personally, since I assume they'll both be in the same price range anyway.
Good luck with your decision making

very disappointed with this device

I have been a windows phone user for the last year or so but was so tempted by the one x and android 4 that I took the plunge and got one a couple of weeks ago. The first couple if days were great but since then I have suffered random reboots, the disappearing SD memory problem, battery overheating and now the battery will only get me through a couple of hours. The phone will also sometimes decide it needs to reload the home screen and displays "loading" for a minute or two. It lags, it will not send music meta data to my cars head unit, Bluetooth audio in the car is tinny and syncing my music collection with it is a pain. I have gone back to my Titan as my daily use phone and now use the one x as a camera (which is pretty good actually). I am running stock and have uninstalled all third party apps.

Lol CHOOSE U.... really! Lol. I use both wp and android. I'm guessing you have a faulty device or one x running 1.19 software. I don't have those problems. No reboots at all. No sense reloads. That I think it's caused by the calendar widget. And wp os no need dual core or quad core to run fast.

If after a format (no apps installed), your still getting random reboots & only a couple of hours battery - you really need to be getting this device replaced.

No problem my friend. The phone is ready but like every new flagship that gets released it does take a few updates to get the phone to it's true power. Same was with the S2. It needed a few good updates and a few months to properly realize its power...I think you need to return it and get a replacement
@chrisjicks
same here bro..had my phone now for a few weeks even though i am on my third replacement and could not be happier...And also glad that the development has picked up big style now..nice to see the old VR crew here from the s2 forum
I don't suppose you got a replacement One X and tried a different device?
What with all the faulty ones around that could have been the simple case with yours maybe? Because if so a working one might have provided a different perspective on the phone.
If someone is having random reboots after a format with no apps installed, its clear to me that its a faulty device, - if this isn't the case, he has an app installed that is causing it.
If I can go over a month without a single reboot (by itself) - it can't be a software bug.

Couple of things:
If the battery lasts two hours the phone is broken, or you are doing it wrong.
Updating the phone will solve the re-loading issue mostly.

Granted, I came from a D1, but I love my Dinc2. I did a lot of going back and forth and checking out many of my options, but for me, it has the perfect balance of power and size. My friend got rid of his t-bolt, so I activated it for my wife - I hate the size of it. Granted, it's awesome for sitting on the table and watching video, but to use on a daily basis - kind of like trying to use my Nook for a phone lol.

The two very small gripes with my M7 were the purple tint issue and the battery life. After 8+ months of ownership I was only just getting a day on battery if that on light/moderate usage. The M8s battery life is 40% better than the M7 so that is a huge increase. The purple tint issue has also been fixed. It's not a huge upgrade and if I were tight on money I could EASILY of kept the M7 till 2015. Your choice. This might get locked as it's a phone comparison thread but hey ho.
Thanks for your thoughts.. I agree about the battery. 12 months on I can certainly see the decay.
I hope this doesn't get locked as it is useful to those like me who have the previous model and are debating to upgrading to the next generation.
I understand comparison threads being closed, but this is discussing the same manufacturer and practically the same model, just the upgraded version. Normally flame wars happen between other OEMs like Samsung and HTC.
I imagine this thread would be useful to others who are undecided on wether to splash out of commit for another 2 years on a device that may in the real world seem just the same as the M7
Hope we can keep this discussion going!:fingers-crossed:
i am!

Same as me. I had a play with one at the O2 store today. Gotta say... its the finest looking mobile phone I've ever seen. Gun metal grey is defo the best. I'm thinking of getting one from Three tomorrow on PAYG. £459!
but I have an M7 and its in perfect condition and will have Sense 6 soon making almost the same as the M8. Is it really worth spending the money???
Have a DE on order. Loved the M7. Best phone I have ever had. Can't wait for the phone to arrive.
Yes that's exactly my predicament.. £470 for.... Looks.. which you can't see when your holding it.. a depth sensor.. and that's it really... Isn't it?
And Sense 6 coming soon.. well already here really, had it on yesterday for a while, but not officially out yet.
But.. I do want one. That's a lot of nice things I could get for my motorbike though lol.
I have T-Mobile JUMP, so I'll be trading in my M7 for the M8.
As of right now, I have another $300 to go before my M7 is paid off. On ebay, a used M7 goes for around $250.. and then you minus some shipping and ebay fees.
Definitely not worth it for me to just stick with the M7.

How exactly does JUMP work? I'm eligible for it now as well but obviously haven't used it before. Do you ever get to have both phones at the same time so you can transfer information, or do you literally go in the store with one phone and come out with the other?

That I'm actually not sure about. I was planning to back up all my stuff to my computer myself.

You have to backup everything because you will never have both phones at the same time. You literally bring the old phone to the store, they inspect it for screen and water damage, they set up the new phone for you (they'll set up your GMail and sync the two for you) and then you walk out.
And yes, as soon as T-Mobile gets it in store, I'm using my JUMP for it. There's no reason not to since if I don't like it I can just use my second JUMP credit to trade it for something else (which I will consider doing when the 805 devices roll out).

That makes sense. What if you do the process online? I'm wondering if they would send you the device then you could take your current device to the store to trade it in.

How is going from 2300 to just 2600 (300 increase) a 40% better?

It's not just the mah that matters. You have the more efficient SoC, better optimizations... Stuff like that.

Not sure if its actually 40% (could you link to source?) but I've definitely read that the M8 gets better battery life than the M7 from several reviews.
Well, i will get mine soon. Thanks to all SkyDragon user via donation! Max, butterfly, hox and m7 users.
I couldn't keep my hox, should sell it to get m7... But this time its different, i keep m7 and will get m8.
Why? Mostly for cooking reasons. All my team has m7 and today 6 of them has also m8.
The rest will jump soon too, we are like 40 hahaha.
I love design, sense 6, well.. All.
Doesn't mean m7 is old, i still very happy with it. But also want to taste new m8. Im curious about dot case and sense 6.
About battery, m7 got good battery, screen, best devs and roms. And soon m8.
Btw,i will release our first SkyDragon rom soon, if someone wants to join my team to be tester, or has code skilz or theming skilz, just pm.
Well done HTC, again best phone of the year! No doubt.
Have to state that. If i should keep my m7 only, im Happy too as we are getting Sense 6 soon, also dot cover
Literally just upgraded from the M7 two hours ago. Wow. Seriously just wow. I just tried out the camera, the effects are really cool. It is super mega smooth. The new SoC is very power efficient and fast. Definitely feels better too. Also glad to be rid of the purple camera tint.

I'm worried about my HTC M9, can anyone shed some light?

Hi all, I pre-ordered my M9 last night and have been very excited. Unfortunately I came home to see a lot of reports regarding the phones issues.
Overheating, battery life, and saying the phone isn't overheating but it scores like 10K less in benchmarks doesn't really
seem like a 'fix' to me.
Can anyone rekindle my love for this phone before I cancel my order, I really don't want to have to buy an S6 instead.
Benchmarks are just numbers. What difference would it make if the phone scored 100k? As long as the UI is fluid and provides a great experience. With my HTC One M8 I underclocked my CPU from 2.3GHz to 1.7GHz. And guess what? No difference in fluidity in everyday use but a bit of extra battery life.
Remember, numbers are not everything.
Overheating has been solved with a firmware update. This should also solve the battery life a bit, but I don't know how much.

Don't worry about the overheating. Problem solved there. Only overheating I experienced was during cache rebuilt after FOTA Update. Even that's addressed now. Benchmarks do not mirror real-world use. You will not be sorry. I will be, when I have to give my test device back to HTC.

What an absolute F**K UP!, I was receiving delivery notes all morning regarding the delivery of the phone, turns out im not getting it till the 31st now
Honestly the last time I order from them. I've wasted a whole day waiting.
Refusing the order once it arrives, absolutely fuming.
To answer your question, Yes I am in the UK

Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app
I received an email saying phone is ready for collection from my chosen O2 store.
Then in store I got told there was an error and they will not release it until 31st.

I got an email the same as you, waited all day for delivery, no show, contacted O2 they told me to drive to the depot and collect it. I drove for 45 mins there and back in the dark. Turns out it wasn't even there.
Really angry about it. Some people actually got theirs though, some woman from O2 rang the courier and told them to send my phone back to their warehouse. It will be resent on the 31st. BS
so the m9 is really better the the lagy lg g flex 2???
what about the speaker sound is it better than old m8??
I would say no comparison between new Dolby Audio soft with new hardware and ordinary BoomSound..
got my m9 yesterday, and I must say it's amazing. You must know, I'm comming from S3 and never used an HTC device before. It's so smooth and lag free, so far. And that hardware feeling so luxury. Great device.
But still I'm somehow angry, cos they underclocked the CPU to 1.56Ghz

All the underclock is doing to mine is making games slow and the phone cool, and general use, the phone is hot lol.
