Anyone using one of the Siri like apps in the market? I'm currently looking at Skyvi, Vlingo Virtual Assistant, Jeannie (friend of Siri) and Andy - Siri for Android (Free or Full) and was wondering what your experiences have been like.
I used the Samsung s voice app. It worked great until everyone installed it and slammed the servers. Now all I get is network errors.

"Note: You need to have "Voice Search" and "TTS library" installed in your phone for iris. to work. Most of the phones have these pre-installed, if not please install them from Android market before you try iris."
I know we have Voice Search preinstalled but do we have TTS library as well? Not sure how to confirm that.
I used Iris (siri spelled backwards) for a while. Switched to S-voice ripped out of the SGS3 today.

Just thought you guys should know, in case you didn't see - Someone found a workaround for S Voice:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664785
Also, S Voice is apparently based on Vlingo.. Anyone try out the new "Vlingo Labs"? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vlingo.phoenix
Yeah, the workaround is iffy for some, especially getting a proper location.
I did some more research
So people are saying the S Voice app is iffy (on GNex) - bad voice recognition and many force closes.
Vlingo Labs is very limited in features right now. Looks like I'm waiting out on Siri functionality. I'll stick to the ICS built-in voice actions for now
I've tried a few different ones and I dug AIVC the most of the lot

Another vote here for speaktoit assistant. The best I've tried by far.

Well, I am trying "Evi" now. It's only version 1.1.0, but so far not bad.
I've been using AIVC for a while now....and have tried most of the other ones, but like it the most!
The only complaint I have is that if I ask it to send a text, it doesn't pick up the contact name...but I can't really blame it since it only does it contacts who's names aren't normal english ones haha

SlideIT keyboard, this might not be as good as Swype, at least to me Swype is better, but SlideIT is now $0.10, won't hurt to try it out I guess
Just a heads up for you guys.
thats what ive been using as well... does the job, but not as well as swype. might just take some getting used to though
I've been using the demo and it does not work for me at all. Have to swipe so slowly for it to recognise the right word that I can type much faster on a traditional keyboard. Shame.

Thanks.. this is not bad for a temporary fix. It reminds me of some of the first versions of swype.

SlideIT works great for me. I've never tried swype but it looks like everyne is waiting for it. What is so much better about swype when compared to SlideIT?
I was hoping I'd like this as much as Swype... I like the ability to skin it, but I don't think it's as accurate as Swype.
Swype is almost better in every aspect. More accurate predictions, smarter auto-capitalization, better error tolerance....etc Except you don't have the ability to theme.
It truly is disappointing with their support though, SlideIT works immediately with ICS on the first day, while Swype still suffering resolution problem which I think is rather stupid, they should know Android's fragmentation by now, it might be a good idea to re-write the entire app for future proof's sake.
I highly doubt they will fix it like that since Swype makes money by licensing to OEM to use on their phones rather than selling it to users on app stores. Don't really have to worry about making them futureproof since they just have to make separate builds for each phone. The version we are using is the free beta after all so they don't have any obligation to update it.
Makes me wonder if they really do make more money doing licensing deals than they would selling them to users. Oh well.

I have missed using Swype, but in the meantime I've been using FlexT9 by Nuance, the people who make Dragon speech recognition software. It has a Swype-like feature which works almost as nicely as Swype, but lacks a couple of things that you get in Swype, like navigation arrows, cut and paste buttons, and the ability to swype words in password fields. The speech recognition on FlexT9 is simply phenomenal and worth the app price for that feature alone. Most speech recognition apps don't seem to like UK voices, but this one works even better than the speech recognition on my PC.
It's worth knowing that Nuance have just acquired the company that makes Swype, and indeed this is one of the reasons given by the Swype team for the delayed update for the GN. I really hope that we'll end up seeing the best features of Swype intergrated into the FlexT9 app, or vice-versa. For me, it would be a dream come true.

Thanks for the upload! Some features work, others don't, one problem is though that the apps speech doesn't seem to be the same as shown on the videos, could this be because of lack of Wolfram Alpha or something? (Or am I just talking rubbish lol)

the voice has nothing to do with the app itself,

I would highly recommend for everyone to go on the Play Store and install Ivona Amy UK English Beta application, then set it as your default TTS (to do this open the application) S-Voice sounds 10 times better and more natural like this.

I'm over Google Navigation. The last few updates have ruined it. It won't warn you when your turn is coming, it won't reroute almost ever, and it wants to send me halfway around the city to get somewhere ten minutes away. So, with that rant out of the way, what's the best third party Nav app?

Ok, after some brief digging around. It appears it is part of Google Play Services.. Which before no one was entirely sure what it was used for, it appears we now have an idea.. To use as a gateway for Google to install their loot on your device at will.
That app is the only one I have open.. As you see, Google Play Services is responsible for it.

Yup, if you hold and drag to App Info it shows as Google Play Services.
The strange part of it is.. I have my Nexus 10 sitting right in front of me and that app doesn't exist and I have no updates.

This is a terrible revamp. We've lost starred places, easy offline caching, a separate nav app, on screen zoom buttons and scale, and the UI is more cumbersome for mapping/nav functions. The UI is more beautiful and is arguably better for casual info. But what is the point of maps? Beauty or real map functions?
For those that want the upgrade 7.0.2 attached.
This is probably the wrong thread but does anyone have the previous Google maps apk before the update to 7. I can't stand the new maps. I don't know why Google is insisting on becoming more like crApple. Neat UI but 15 steps to get to navigation, no dedicated way to lookup addresses in your contacts, once in navigation no way to check other route alternatives other than to back out of navigation, can't run navigation and then open maps to search for other places independent of navigation, and the list goes on. Why would you update an app and take away a bunch of great features.
