Hello everybody,
I managed to install the clockworkmod recovery for the Xperia play.
But I don't know how to reboot into recovery mode.
I searched a lot but I can't find the key combination for rebooting into fastboot/bootloader
or recovery mode.
Please help.
Turn device off. When off, press the power button, and start tapping the back button untill device boots into recovery.

Thanks. But unfortinatly thats does not work.
The device just booted up normally.
May be there is another method or I am doing somthing wrong?

I see you posted in the CWM thread, did you boot the recoveryPLAY.img? if so you dont have CWM installed, thats a temp image, your ment to boot from fastboot every time you want to use recovery. You need to flash a kernel with recovery embedded, if your using a r800i with the latest firmware, try doomlords kernel.

What is it, unlike other android device, on the play recovery is held on /boot partition. This is the same partition as the kernel. So if you was to just flash a recovery, this would overwrite /boot partiton, and because there would be no kernel, the device wouldnt boot. So kernel and recovery have to be combined into one boot.img.
That recoveryPLAY.img, NEVER FLASH IT, alway boot it. If you flash it, it will corrupt your /boot partition.

I'm so glad I found this post. It was really useful. Also felt good using the search and actually finding what I need.
I can't flash Clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager
I can't flash Clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager.
It says me that I have to install a Clockworkmod based recovery manually.
How can I do it?
As they said u should boot custom kernel (like eg. Doomkernel) to have recovery. I think there is no cwm for play working with stock kernel, or maybe is but it cant be booted.

What's a kernel and what i have to do?
Hi, I've just rooted my Play and installed CWM using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ..
I've installed CWM with no issues (or so the app says) but I can't boot into Recovery. There's an option in the app to reboot into recovery; but all that does it reboot the device normally (except that there's no boot animation). Also tried tapping back continuously during boot and volume down but still nothing.
Is this going to be a kernel issue? If so how should I go about getting the appropriate kernel on my phone?
As the says in description: reboot phone and when it shows sony ericsson logo u should wait for blue led and than start pressing any key an it should boot to recovery

Kernel is a part of phone system which is connecting rom with hardware (i think) there is some custom kernels which is usually (always?) prerooted and has builtin recovery. With custom one u can eg. Overclock and/or undervolt ur cpu
U need to find one here on xda and than boot it using fastboot - in kernel's thread should be said how to do it.

you need to flash custom kernel which provide cwm..
flash one of them in fastboot mode.
you can choose doomlord, keiran, cm7, cm9, icx, miui, mjolnir and else
There is an app on the Google Play store called Xperia CWM Auto Installer. It automatically installs CWM.

Hi
For many days I have been sitting here and read and read and read trying to reboot my phone into recovery mode, I have not succeeded in this, can someone explain how I should do in a simple way?, my phone is rooted and have unlocked boat loader, can I install clockwork fashion?, and how do I do that?
The reason why I want to be able to reboot in recovery mode is that I have tried the "kitchen" here!
Install Doom's kernel and press back buton at boot when the lights light up to enter recovery.

To use the CMW on a Stock ROM you will need to have Un-Locked Bootloader and run the RecoveryArc.img from the Computer, but if you use a Custom Kernel such as DoomKernel, or a Custom ROM such as CyanogenMod it comes as Standard. You can find the RecoveryArc.img HERE

Hi
What means with custom kernell?,the data that already exits on my phone do I have to wipe that when I install a custom kernel?, do you mean clockworkmode when you say that it come as standard?
Don´t I need to take a backup on my "kernel" that I have in my phone now?
Im trying to get into the recovery mode on the R800i. When i start the phone, i press the down button but it just boots up normally. My bootloaders havent been unlocked but my phone is rooted. So how do i enter into recovery mode? And btw, I want to install the Xperia S UI on my Xperia Play, do I need to unlock the bootloaders for that?

Down, as in volume down, or down on the gamepad? First of all, did you actually install a recovery? If not, you may want to look into how it's done.
Also, I'm pretty sure you need to be unlocked for that theme, but I'm not completely positive.

I havent installed any type of recovery on my phone. And I was pressing the volume down button. Can I download the recovery from the android market?
If you haven't installed a recovery, you can't access it. You will want to download this app to get it. You'll be able to boot into recovery from the app's menu, once you get it installed, instead of having to worry about making it through the boot process.
By installing that app, can I also flash a custom kernel?
No, you must be bootloader unlocked to flash a kernel, and even then, a kernel cannot be flashed from recovery.

you should unlock your phone if you want custom kernals and roms its repetitively easy! just check if you can do it! A point in the right direction HOHO HO

I had rooted and installed HD 3.0.2 custom ROM on my son's Sony xperia arc s successfully and it was working well but the adventurist mind set to work and I wanted to try the jelly droid custom ROM.
I went to recovery mode via x tools and did the factory reset and formatting system.
Then I clicked install zip from SD card.it showed that update installed successfully then after around 15 minutes and no further instruction,I rebooted the phone.seems like I missed some step or something which I am not aware of.
now it only shows the Sony screen.I attempted going to the recovery mode pressing the combo keys volume down and power after taking out the battery but nothing transpired.
have I bricked my phone?
Is there any way I could bring it back to life?
would be obliged if anyone could recommend some steps to try and restart the phone.
thanking in anticipation

Did you flash the correct kernel for your phone? Ultimate HD uses stock kernel while the Jelly Droid should be using a custom kernel. You need to have bootloader unlocked to use a custom kernel. CWM does not work after flashing the update package as X tools installs CWM into /system which you just formatted. To be able to use CWM after changing ROM, use a stock or custom kernel that has CWM pre installed on it.

Thanks for your quick reply.it seems I did not flash any kernel or anything else prior to pressing the install from zip.seems a grave mistake on my part.
now that the phone does not even start up what could I do to recover the phone.
I am a complete novice and would request your good self to kindly suggest remedial measures to go back to the stock ROM or HD 3.0.2.The boot loader I think was unlocked before attempting to root the phone.the phone only shows SONY written on it.no turning off even.having to pull the battery to put of the screen.
Thanks n regards

To recover your phone, use Flashtool and install stock firmware to your phone with a correct FTF file. You can find the FTF file from the forum, just search.
OR if you have locked bootloader, then you can also use PC Companion to repair your phone.
Sent from LT18i with custom firmware by myself.
Since you have bootloader unlocked, I recommend that you repair your phone using flashtool, since it's a hassle to relock bootloader to use Sony Update Service. After restoring your phone, flash a stock kernel with CWM on it so you can still use CWM after changing ROM. If you want to go back to UHD, Jader recommends LuPuS kernel to use with his ROM.

First of all, calm down , i rarely see arc-s really bricked and not recoverables so ,in this case, the best metod is a thinking mind. Answer my questions.
1° Have you checked your bootloader if it's locked/unlocked or if there is possibility to unlock it ? There are a plenty of guides about it.
2° Please describe how you have installed the rom.
If you have the possibility to reach the recovery , you have to fully format the phone. Factory reset, format system cache and dalvik. Only after that, try to re-flash the rom.

Are you even sure if it's volume up?
Flash mode -> connect phone to PC while holding down back button.
Fastboot mode -> connect phone to PC while holding down menu button.
Enter recovery(if installed) -> hold volume down button when phone boots up.

PC Companion's repair option should work as well, try that one. If you wish to stick to Flashtool, then first make sure you got drivers installed.
Hello everybody,
Yesterday I decided to root my Xperia S. I jumped into the world of rooting! But...I never expected it be this confusing!
I need someone to help me get to the next step...I just want to install a custom rom, but I'm getting confused over everything...
I rooted my device using Flashtool, 2 (Sony?) kernels and DooMLords Easy Rooting Toolkit... SU appeared on my device...so that is good...right?
Then I decided to unlock the bootloader also using Flashtool...that also was a succes!!
Now....I'm trying to get Rom Manager to work. But before that will work...I need a recovery prog. Everything I found about recovery mode pointed me to CWM...but now its not clear to me if I can get it to work on the Xperia S...Is there a manual way to install it? I tried RecoverX...but I keep getting a black screen when I try to enter Recovery mode...And I read in another post I need a custom kernel...but I can't do that 'till I have a recovery right?
What do I do next???
Thanks!!!
Yup... Google it.. And I think u should install twrp recovery... Its more latest and better than cwm... U will get many tutorials of how to install a custom recovery... Just search twrp for Xperia s and m sure u can do the rest...
