I bought my Galaxy Tab 10.1 at BestbuyCanada but they do not have the adpater for USB drives in stock or even listed as they do in the US. I have searched and searched but can find no stores in Canada that sell this. I can buy through ebay but looks like its about 3X the price.
Have any Canadians out there purchased one and if so, where did you get it? Maybe my best bet is to wait until they come here?
Thanks!
micro sd/mmc card/usb adaptors
Hi, considering sgt 10.1 have no micro sd/mmc and usb ports, might consider these adaptors approved by sammy. Around usd50 for both i.e rm150 plus. Found in kl malaysia, but ebay price is sky high.TQ

Might have no choice but to wait. Many of the ones being advertised on ebay are the 'duo' kits with sdcard and usb adapters, but nobody is going to have stock until the middle of September according to their auction listings. Accessories seem to be slowly trickling into local stores, well at least the cases and hdmi adapters at staples now. I don't like the idea of adapters hanging off the bottom of the unit because it makes it impossible to stand the unit up in pretty much any folio type case. You could mount the tablet upside down in the book case, but then some apps which default to landscape only display one particular way.

Hi guys
I seen these cables as cheap as 5.00 up to 30.00 and up for this adapter
So did anyone try the cheap ones and do they work just as good as the Samsung adapters???
I find no difference. I bought dealerextreme.
Sorry for my english.
no problem thx
It's a standard connection type, so they should all be the same (although manufacturing quality may not be the same on some of those cheaper ones I guess).
i bought one at monoprice and the screen constantly flickers from the note. ive heard others say the same thing and that the official samsung mhl adapter does not do this. any truth to this?
I have a few HTC chargers at home and a car charger none of them work on the note.so even though the port may look the same there seem to be some differences.the same might apply for MHL cables as well.
On ebay there are some cheap adapters which described as "genuine" (search f.e for item 120834740772). Is it really genuine Samsung?
Has anyone bought and tried it?
I bought this:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/samsun...-galaxy-s2-i9100-i9188-i9000-more-black-95031
Works fine for me.

Don't buy those. They are very bad quality, USB connector broken off. They are either Samsung QA failed item or knock off. The seller trying to trick you into believing it's OEM with packaging. Stay away.

Yes, I also thought there's something wrong there.
Too much to be be truth.
I got a cheap one and the screen does flicker to white noise, for a couple of milliseconds every now and then, so basically works perfect.
I bought a $10 one from amazon (ASIN: B005SV08SK) and it seems to work good. It came with an extra usb cable to power it too.
I'm glad I sold mine that came with the 4 infuses on Ebay back when we bought them. They were going for big bucks and I made out like a bandit

Question is, is it any good.
I haven't tried this specific item, but I'll go ahead and vouch monoprice. When it comes to cables and adapters, they can't be beat. Best prices and great customer service. If it doesn't work, I know they'll replace or refund it.

I bought the Samsung (OEM) version for under $15.00. I know some people were having issues with knock offs. I think for the price difference, I would rather get the authentic piece.

Just wondering, does the authentic one have a micro usb port on the side of the HDMI adapter? I think it would be a nice capability to charge while outputting videos.
I think my phone was still draining the battery, albeit much slower, when outputting an HD video with a generic adapter.
hi there ,
I want to use the MHL feature but 2 things stop me.
1) I don't want to spend that much on the original one (it's about USD $40)
2) I want to use it at the gym so I don't have a way to connect it to the wall outlet ...
I wanted to know if you know of any cheap MHL adapter that does the work? ( I prefer ebay...)
p.s
just found this one , so I'm assuming these will soon pop on ebay for a low price...

Still haven't found any 3rd party cables and wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't one either, because I've seen plenty that claim to be only S3 compatible and I got caught out with one the other week.

this one claims it was tested to work with the SGS3 ,
that's why I want to buy it on ebay... so if it won't work you can at least get your money back and write a bad feedback...
I'm more interested in the adapter that lets you use the old MHL cable because I have 3 of them and sure someone will soon be making a £2 knock-off I can buy a few of.

please update this thread once you'll find something interesting.
I just checked EBay and there's still no 3rd-party MHL to HDMI adapter available for the S3, almost 2 months later, so we still have only two options:
Buy the official $40 Samsung MHL to HDMI adapter
Buy an old S2 MHL adapter ($15) AND the adapter FOR the adapter ($10) == $25.
Monoprice.com has said they're coming out with their own S3 MHL cable, but that was a few weeks ago.

Monoprice is going to do their own S3 MHL... hell yeah I'm waiting for them then.
according to this sell I realize in the end of the month the Chinese release their MHL to the market. that's when the price should start going down
Here's a 3rd party one.

No. Too cheap, so it's mislabeled.
The cheapest you can find a non-samsung mhl to hdmi cable for the S3 is about $25 on ebay and amazon. cheaper than $40 for samsung's.
I'm probably going to order this one when it's in stock @ amazon next week (same version on ebay):

Which won't work with the S3? The one pictured, or the one you linked to?
The one I linked to is too expensive NOT to work...

Is there any advantage to buying the official adapter? The way I see it if we go with the second option we can still use the mhl adapter on other phones that have the standard layout, but we couldn't with the official cable.
Do we lose any functionality going with the second choice?

Under my point of view if you are not going to use the MHL 5 pins cable (the old one) for S2 or Note, I would get the new one suitable only for S3 with 11 pins. I expect Samsung to solve the problem with MHL+USB OTG one day, and if it does, I think it would not be possible using the old MHL cable, but I must say this is just a possibility and NOT sure, maybe they will be selling a new MHL cable (if it happens I would cry and I will not buy any other Samsung product...)

Well, going forward, I expect the newer 11-pin cable to be the new standard, at least on samsung phones, so if you have no old phones around (or friends wanting to use it), just get the new cable.
Also, by the time I can upgrade again (~January 1st, 2014), I expect wireless display mirroring will be the more popular option anyway, so either cable may be obsolete.
Does the USB OTG cable work with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ ?
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using xda app-developers app
It does.
If you are looking to mount a USB stick, you will need to have root and an app called stickmount. Other wise, you can plug in a keyboard or mouse, which does not requires root but you will need to be on 4.0.3 and above.
Pressed from my Maguro
Do i need to get a specific type/brand or can I just pull any cable off ebay? Like: are all OTG cables the same?

I just bought one USB OTG (micro-USB - USB-A-slot) from Amazon, no brand, certainly made in China, but it just works. Probably like you say, all OTG cables are the same. My advice if you want to just expand your memory, buy a very small USB "plug" stick like this one: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Flash-Drive-SDCZ33-032G-B35/dp/B00812F7O8/ I only have the 8 GB model, slow data transfer, but small plug. Fits in every pocket.
I hope I could help you.

Thats a great deal. $15 for a 32GB tiny usb card.
I just wish I knew why amazon.com and .ca had such drastic price differences. Its $35 on amazon.ca and our dollar is basically the same. Not fair at all.
BTW this also worked for me with no root with 4GB and 8GB flash stick on stock 4.1.1 !!!

Doesn't work with my external HDD maybe needs more juice

Hi Pepper67, that price is a great deal. I understand your frustration regarding price differences. I'm British, but I live in Italy, I often use the amazon.co.uk site for research and checking user reviews because my Italian isn't brilliant. When I check the same goods on amazon.it they are normally higher. Sometimes by as much as 50%.
But the food and the weather here in Italy are way better than the UK.
You may pay more in Canada for some goods, but correct me if I'm wrong. Don't you guys have a public health care system? Unlike the US which is primarily private insurance based. Which is more important, health care, or saving a few bucks on Amazon? Just a thought.
Have fun. Anil
