Change key light colors - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey guys I was just messing around on my phone when a question came up and hit me in the head...is there anyway to change the color of the soft keys? Like make them red or blue or rainbow idk...is it even possible or is it part of the screen where you can't just take it apart change some bulbs and be good to go?

rainbow lol sorry but i don't think that,s possible. those LED light are probably integrated on the motherboard circuit.

It really wouldnt be that hard if your confident at disassembling and reassembling your phone. Being a skilled solderer would probably be a good idea aswell.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Couldn't really tell from the teardown pics. But I'm sure if you find the right diode you can solder the different colored L.E.D. I noticed my cousin's L.E.D. lights on his Skyrocket are more of a cool blue tone instead of white white like ours for this touch keys. I wish ours was more like that. But I'm not about to take my phone apart in case I ever need to do a warranty exchange/fix.

LOL Rainbow would be so epic lmao

Easy to do.
Remove screen.
Purchase red, green, yellow etc. saran-wrap.
Cut small strip and place directly on l.e.d's
Reassemble phone
I did it with a my touch while back. Changed trackball color

Also maybe just coloring the backside of the actual screen right on the reverse side of the capacative buttons in theory it should work no prob:beer:

What is the weird pale spot on my screen?

There is this strange pale spot on my Evo's screen. It is not a stuck pixel, and I am not sure what it is really haha. It almost looks like there is a tiny pin hole in the screen or something that is letting the back light escape. I have never seen this in a screen and am having a hard time explaining it.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
Take a picture so we could see

I'm assuming its brighter than the rest of the screen? If so its probably damage from pressure. It didn't crack the screen but it did damage it. I had 3 of them before I got my replacement.
Im not sure I will be able to get it in a picture but I will try to take one tomorrow some time.

Actually it isn't brighter but it seems like the back light is shining through or something. Ill get a picture.

Yeah, it doesn't really bother me. I only really notice it when the screen is bright white. I was just mainly curious as to what it was. My camera is still in storage apparently as I just moved. When I dig it out I will post a pic.
Just wanted to post that the problem I mentioned has been brought up by several others in the following thread. No picture required!

(Q) HELP Weird screen color blue-ish/yellow tint

Yesterday a teacher of mine took my phone and when I got home the screen started to fizzle. It has a blue-ish tint now and washed out colors.
What can be the problem & how can it be fixed w/o going to sprint?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Definitely a hardware issue. If you have TEP then it should be free to fix and 35 if not (bill the teacher lol). Take it to a sprint repair center.

What happens when u press the screen? And can u see anything on the screen except those colors?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I got insurance on my phone I just don't want to go to sprint and deal with the Q&A and 3hr wait. Can I make claim with asursion and not be charged since I have insurance ?

The areas where I touch is regular, but the colors are all washed out or have a blue or yellow tint by default. My screen isn't cracked if you were thinking that.

You actually give the phone to the teacher? Wow, much has changed since I've gone to school.
This is why I don't trust people with $500 phones...
Your best bet is to go though Sprint, like others have said.

Are there any bubbles on the screen? I'm trying to figure out if ur teacher dropped the phone and didn't tell u, or if they got any liquid in the phone. Because that sounds like a screen bleeding problem.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Since I'm in a nearly all girls semi-strict high school we could get suspensed or kicked out for not obeying the teachers(men are treated in my school like a black man in the 40s no rights at all) . And I'm thinking the teacher put pressure on the screen when he took it away from my friend, I seen him put it in his pocket with other people phones. When I approached him about it he denied it, which I knew he would do.

ok...yes, the screen has a bleeding problem. it's from the inner part of the screen. he put to much pressure on it. it's like when you press your finger on a computer screen and you get that funny discolorization... thats what happened. can you see the normal stuff on the screen though? or is there to much color on it?
this is a slight hardware problem that is sometimes fixable.

colored back and setting buttons

Is there a way that a dev can produce a apk or zip that will allow the abilliity to change the colors of the back and setting buttons of the GS3? Not sure if this has been discussed before or even a thread for this topic.. Just wanted to be able to change the color and use something other than white.
It's hardware wise you can't do it unless you take the phone apart. If we were able to do it on the vibrant then we would already have the option on the siii

I used to think the same thing till my gf used my phone and asked how to go back lol. I have it on for 6 seconds now so she doesnt get confused. Samsung really did a good job hiding the buttons when its not lit.
But to the OP...ya cant do it unless you open it up and color it or put a colored film on top the LED.
Wait you trust your gf with your phone?? Lol

How bad are ur AMOLED ink spots?

So if u don't already know pretty much all of our s3 phones have black ink spots on the screen when viewing a black background at night time or somewhere really dark. If u don't believe me download the LCD test, go to black color picture wait a few seconds for ur eyes to adjust and ur screen to auto dim in the dark.. and ull see a bunch of stains.
I'm just wondering how bad is too bad?
I have 2 curved lines down the length on the screen and a few other stains. I just want to have an idea if I should replace my screen with hope that I will get less spots or smaller spots than now.
Please post ur ink imperfections here..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Probably like 6-7 q-tip sized ones. Maybe a little smaller.
=D I only have one spot that looks like some one stroked it with a QTip. Dead center in the screen.
Personally I'd rather have 8 of these marks instead of just one, DEAD CENTER OF MY SCREEN. Brings out the OCD in me.

Don't know and don't care, the phone works perfectly fine for me, no need to be all nit picky over small issues
I refuse to look, if I don't see it now, I won't notice it under normal use. If I do this and see it, I'll constantly dwell on it.
sounds like i got it pretty bad lol
i have about a shirt-button sized circle on the top center as well as a few other random little spots. Doesn't bother me though.
I don't have any.. let's see how many flaws my replacement has :\

That couldn't be more true, but some of us paid a lot for this phone. It's not an issue at all when you think about it, but once you do notice it, it becomes a psychological issue and it upsets the user.

The spots are like backlight bleed. I don't think a tester will show anything...
I had this issue with my S2; the refurbished one had them everywhere. When I got my S3, I didn't notice a thing! Thanks for the awareness though.
***t screens.
just saying.
colors are nice, but at what cost. i would trade an HTC LCD screen for this one any day
What's so bad about the ink spots though? Since you can't see it when the screen is or off. Only when it's dark.

Titanium Grey Note 2 users. What color is your home button?

This is obviously a question for users with Titanium Grey version. But I'm just wondering what color is your home button? Mine is more of a dark burgundy color than grey. I didn't notice it when I first got my phone. But now I'm wondering that since I didn't notice it at first, and now I do notice it.. I'm hoping that the color is not slowly fading.

Mine is grey
At first glance, mine is grey. If I inspect it at close range, under a bright light, it has a hint of burgundy! (I've had mine for about a month, and would not have noticed this if it were not for your post.) Time will tell if it changes...
I am fully colorblind and have no idea. Colors are so hard for me to discern I dont even try anymore.

Last time I checked it was (still) grey...
