People claiming Apple revolutionised the smartphone...

Ok, so I am having this discussion with some iPhone fanboys claiming everything about the iPhone is so darned original and that Apple invented it all. However, I know they didn't and that some old devices from 2001 - 2003 could do just the same. Of course they think I'm full of it. So, I read a post about it here @ XDA last year but can't for the life of me find the post in question and desperately want to prove them wrong without stepping in the salad...
Could someone please give me a heads up if they know what I am talking about?

I don't know what post you are talking about, but why not just show them any device with WinMo 2002 - 2003 SE on it? You can find lot's of screen shots on Ebay. Or how about a palm pilot, which looks like a ity-bity iphone, and has pretty much the same UI?
Sometimes it isn't a matter of being first, but being in the right place at the right time with the right product. That's what Apple accomplished. Timing. So they became instantly popular, which generated apps by people wanting the largest market.
In short, Apple's advantage in the smartphone arena is the PC's advantage in the computer field. The larger market gets the most attention by developers. And, as Windows users have found, it's the programs that you buy a computer for, not the operating system. Apple learned and jumped out, probably subsidizing app developers, or at least not making it difficult for them. Windows has lost the advantage--probably permanently--to the iPhone.
Windows 7 Mobile was a tremendous waste of money. The same money spent subsidizing application developers would have accomplished a lot more. When my AT&T current contract is up, I'm moving from HTC to iPhone. The mainstream is where to be, and the mainstream for personal computers is Windows. For smartphones, it's iPhone. Who cares who was first?

You registered just for that?
To the OP: Nokia makes excellent hardware with very good build quality (N8 for example), and has some outstanding services and other applications I think will benefit anybody with a wp7. So with wp7's great UI and their great Hardware, I am eagerly awaiting a release of an upper end phone from Nokia.
Now we just need faster OS updating and we could be in for a great ride. Here's to hoping.
@markomarkogame,
Hi and welcome to the forums. There have been many threads created about Nokia and WP7, in which there have been discussions just like the one you're starting.
You may find that they are very useful and that it is somewhat unnecessary to start a new thread. We encourage users to search before posting.

The first comment was directed at "julisbulis" who apparently registered just to say they are going to suck lol.
Nokia Windows Phone is 'absolutely stunning’
"Absolutely stunning." That’s how everyone that's been shown Nokia's new Windows Phone 7 smartphone describes the device. This is according to Nokia’s Conor Pierce, general manager for UK and Ireland, in a one to one interview with Pocket-lint.
"To the partners we have shown the device to, their words, not necessarily mine - although I agree - upon showing it to them. It's spontaneous and unprompted. They say ‘the first Nokia Windows Phone is absolutely stunning’ and that’s die hard gurus in this business, who have thick skin," boasts Pierce.
"For them to say that spontaneously without any sales pitch shows what we are bringing is pretty spectacular. And that’s only the beginning.”
The phone Pierce is talking about is, of course, the soon to be announced, and hopefully soon to be released, Nokia Windows Phone. Dubbed Sea Ray and already enjoying its fair share of leaks, it is the company’s first foray into the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system and the phone that it hopes will help it turn around the fortunes of the once proud Finnish mobile phone maker.
"I’ve actually got one in my pocket, but I can't show you," he teases, leaving Pocket-lint unable to confirm the opinion of so many gurus.
Pierce, who also adds that he has "seen what’s coming," is very confident that the launch of Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices in the coming months is going to be the success that the company so drastically needs.
Rest of the interview here if anyone is interested: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/42235/nokia-windows-phone-7-stunning

Vote for Windows Phone in the contest!

It is so annoying to see that site get the stats wrong for Lumia 800. 3.5 inch screen? Capacitive touch, while iPhone and Galaxy nexus have multitouch? As if The Lumia 800 cannot handle multitouch!!
The way they have entered stats, it looks as if they desperately want the iPhone to win!! Bad for them that the Lumia has a healthy lead.
62%!
ahaha
We got a small lead
Keep it up folks!!!
Wow - nearly 3500 votes.
Assuming those aren't all from this thread (!) that's great news.
Poor blackberry torch
Oops, i voted for iphone, thought it was WP7 with all the WP7 software MS has released for it. j/k

There seems to be allot public support for Nokia or Wp7 in the UK right now. The Nokia / MS marketing campaign is doing wonders! We are leading with 63% with the 2nd place under 15% !!!

AT&T iPhone & Android users converting to Lumia 900

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...-details/index.jsp?q_sku=sku5870225#tabModule
It is very encouraging to see the reviews from majority of iOS and android users who have decided to purchase the Lumia 900 and are excited about it. The ease of use, the simplicity of the functionality and the different style of OS from what they have known since iOS and android had been in the market.
Most of the reviews talk about how they decided to try the phone and just fell in love with the OS. Promoting awareness and suppressing ignorance for the windows phone will get people to love this OS as I also did.
What windows phone brings to the table is something new and 'different' that people who have been tired of the same 'ol style of iOS and android want a change and many users see that change in windows phone.
"Majority of ios and android users" ?
Well, ok, it sounds good. Then I stumbled onto this just this morning, which sounds just as credible:

Most likely it comes from your habit of "selective reading"?
The OP clearly wrote : "see the reviews from majority of iOS and android users who have decided to purchase the Lumia 900 and are excited about it"
So clearly NOT "Majority of ios and android users" ?
If majority of those users that Google activates (over 800,000 Android devices every single day) when use WP, they find it exciting and rate it 5 star.

Majority of the users who tried out windows phone, not majority of users who own iPhone and Android OS.
"A well-connected" Microsoft reporter?? Well, honestly I don't blame Microsoft for holding back on the numbers because most end users are so naive when it comes to understanding what phone to get. They could easily go with the crowd. Comparing numbers would not help to win end users over. The OS is still fairly new.
Ofcourse iPhone and android sales surpass windows phone sales any day any time, but comparing those stats would not help people looking for a new phone. The launch date of all three platforms are different. Windows Phone with the most recent. So one cannot use such stats to judge the success of a phone. A lot of people go with iPhone and android and nothing else because that's what they're used to. Not because they understand the technology behind the phone or the processing capabilities or the resolution, its just because that's what everyone is talking about.
Hence, the Nokia/AT&T Lumia 900 marketing strategy is just another way for people to be aware of the WP and Nokia's re-emergence in the industry.
By this fall 2012, we should experience Windows Phone in a newer dimension with Windows Phone 8.
Now articles like this excite me the more...

My apologies, what mobile version rendered very little correctly other than the headline.
The interesting bit is the number of likes vs the number of reviewers. I wonder how porportio.nate that is for the industry.
According to well-connected Microsoft reporter Mary Jo Foley, the company has only sold 3.5 million Windows Phone 7 devices, to date.
Thats a load of Bo*****s! I've bought about 30 different Wp7 handsets alone
Never believe the media, They tell you only what you NEED to know.

WP7 officially dead - RIP

The Nokia Lumia series has had the biggest marketing spend in mobile history, but it's all been undone with yesterdays keynote announcement.
Who's going to buy a WP7 phone now they're known to be "end of life" and not be getting the WP8 update? The next few months are going to see terrible sales for Microsoft and Nokia as the Osborne Effect kicks in.
We will also see new apps and games tailor off; serious developers (i.e. ones actually risking money to release apps for this system) will be waiting for the WP8 SDKs. Same thing happened before Mango was released; we didn't get any big Windows Live games for months.
So many duplicate threads!
Sorry mate, please continue this discussion in one of the others.
