Galaxy Nexus Factory Reset, not possible after data encryption - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Stupid me thinking encryption my data would be cool.. after I installed custom Rom (Eclipse ROM), now I am having trouble mounting my SD Card.
Now the phone often reboots itself after the ROM install, it's killing me.. so I want to do factory reset, and go back to original condition. but not able to because of the encyption.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you follow the procedure here as I had suggested?? That will take you back to stock.

Wouldn't it still not work because of the encryption?
Anyways, unless you have lots of business documentation, there's no reason to encrypt your phone.

What I posted WILL work, as it wipes the partitions using fastboot. Fastboot does not even look at what's on the partitions - it just flashes and/or wipes.

Step 3: I didn't get any any prompt on my device.
1) Make sure your computer recognizes your device by typing: fastboot devices
2) Unlock your bootloader (if you have not already done so): fastboot oem unlock
3) You will see a prompt on your device. This will wipe your entire device (including the /sdcard folder). Accept.
4) Reboot by typing: fastboot reboot-bootloader

That's because your bootloader was already unlocked. You are good to proceed!

I'm glad it worked out for you!
I do not take donations -- I'm not here to make money, only to share my knowledge, just as those that came before me did with me.
If you feel like making a donation, send some cash to those who are less fortunate, though something like http://www.unicef.org/

you are a good guy. I respect that.
thanks again!

To remove encryption from my device, I didn't have to touch the system partition. I used fastboot to erase the userdata partition (this does irreversibly destroy all user data, as is implied).
fastboot erase userdata
Didn't require anything else after that.

[Q] No recovery partition

Hey,
I've been trying to install recovery on my xperia play so I can install custom ROMs, I have had to go in to the terminal, adb, on windows and use flash_image however when i try to flash a recovery image it tells me it can't find a recovery partition which means I can't do anything. This device has been rooted through ginger break, it's on 2.3.2 stock from sony, running the R800i and the kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1.
As for unlocking the bootloader, this has proven impossible to my knowledge due to sony locking it.
Thank you so much for any responses and if you need any more information just ask.
The xperia devices have no recovery partition. Recovery is held on boot partition with the kernel. This means custom recoverys must be embedded into kernel. You will need an unlocked bootloader though to flash a custom kernel. If you have a branded sim locked device with fastboot disabled, you will need to pay for a remote unlock
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
you sure there aint another way, and how much would it cost?
It's the only way unless you have a sim free device. It costs around £15/€20/£25.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
where do I get one? and will this allow me to use and rom I want, eg cyanogen?
Thanks so much btw.
You can go to the cyanogen mod website: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play:_Full_Update_Guide
In that website it will tell you all the instructions on how to unlock your bootloader and flash roms, and most importantly it is totally FREE

Will you please stop trolling threads giving out advice you know nothing about. Thats twice today i have seen you give out totally wrong advice. Only sim free plays can use the official sony bootloader unlock service. Sure he can go to the website and get an unlock code, But his device had fastboot disabled so he has no way to use the unlock code to unlock device.

This is what I was looking for!
Hi All =)
I saw the O'Nandroid and its really great tool to backup without turning off the device.
Here are the list of my questions and logs/screenshots. Please help me get answers and fixes
for my problems xD
So here is my,
CWM-based Recovery v6.0.3.3 Backup Log
Default backup format set to tar.
SD Card space free: 9912MB
Backing up boot image...
Backup of boot image completed.
Backing up system...
Backup of system completed.
Backing up data...
Backup of data completed.
Backing up .android_secure...
Backup of android_secure completed.
Backing up cache...
Backup of cache completed.
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Backup completed!
After that CWM backup. I decided to delete the backup of O'Nandroid folder using the Xplore and make a new backup using O'Nandroid.
And select a new Backup Location Folder. But a log shows after I pressed the start backup. So here are the screenshots problem;

Questions
1. Is the "red error" will affect the CWM Re-Storing that Backup? Even it shows Backup Completed?
2. How do I know if the Backup of CWM or O'Nandroid comes with Kernel or Whole System backup? Or does it backup Apps Data/Phones Configuration/Etc.only?
3.Can CWM Backup and Re-Store it using O'Nandroid? or vice versa?

[Q] Is my Gnex motherboard faulty?

Hi guys,
I can't flash any ROM/Kernel/whatever file via Bootloader/ODIN & Recovery. Worst still I can't access Recovery now.
My Nexus can goto Bootloader or ODIN mode but once i started to push files to it, it will just freeze. Please refer below for photos:

BEFORE
AFTER
My Gnex was on the latest Paranoid ROM and Franco kernel.
Timeline:
1. It just went into bootloop when I am just browsing the internet.
2. Went to Recovery to clear cache. (that's my mistake, should have waited longer for my device to boot :crying
3. Still bootloop.
4. Went to recovery to flash stock kernel as I suspect it's kernel fault.
5. Kernel flash failed as it the operation was aborted and restarted. Bootloop again.
6. Done battery pull and went to Recovery to Restore my backup Nandroid.
7. Flashing halfway and it frooze.
8. Can't access Recovery anymore.
9. Tried to restore stock rom using ODIN. Failed at NandWrite as the screen froze as the above image.
10. Tried WugfFresh to restore back to stock rom and failed again as the screen froze.
So guys, can i conclude that my motherboard is the culprit here?
Thanks in advance.

Sound like there is a possibility of corrupt nand partition .... though that is usually unlikely unless you are an extreme flashaholic ... but still possible
but the guy above is suggesting use the fastboot commands manually rather than using the toolkit as it sometimes makes a difference
As in manually flash the recovery in the bootloader then see if you can get into recovery, but there are many avenues that you can take to see where you can get with this. There are many places that explain how to do this step by step on the web.
Also you should always try switching usb ports and usb cables as sometimes it will cause issues
I know i used the same usb port with the same usb cable to flash my n7 and gnex multiple time then one day it just stopped working switched the port and cable then it started working again.
But other than that I don't know much about is a possible JTAG but I really doubt that will help at all since the device does does get into bootloader and odin just freezes....

[FIXED] adb sideload "timed out waiting for package"

Hi guys, i'm new in this forum, so please pardon me if i did something wrong.
i really need a help now, my asus zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) got bricked Yesterday.
this is the timeline why my zenfone 2 got bircked:
1. I rooted my phone without cwm or anything else on around 2 weeks ago
2. Yesterday, i recieved the firmware update message (auto download) and i accidentaly clicked on update now without unrooting first.
3. My phone stuck on the logo screen, loading forever (softbrick?)
4. i've tried to factory reset and wipe all the system cache via recovery mode, but it didn't wok.
5. i looked at some forum and youtube said that i can flash rom my device to unbrick my device with 2 ways : via adb and microsd.
6. using adb sound promising, so i learnt how to flash rom via adb and i downloaded the latest firmware on the official website.
7. i tried to flash rom via adb: i've put the firmware zip on adb folder and open windows command in that folder, i connected my zenfone 2 with usb and start to "apply update from adb" and type "adb sideload xxxx.zip".
8. several times later i got message: "timed out waiting for package, installation aborted".
9. i repeated step 7 and 8 for almost 5 times and the results are same
Can someone help me? I'm really frustated now cause i can't using my phone or maybe share the reference about flash rom with microsd, because i've tried it but i don't really understand how to do it
Thx. in advance for all of you
nb: i've tried to search in this forum, but i didn't find correct answer for me

FIXED!!!
FINALLY I FOUND HOW TO FIX IT IN THIS SITE http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=39487 THE PROBLEM IS PERSIST WITH MINE AND FINALLY I DIDN'T NEED TO STPCK RECOVERY! THX FOR THE REPLIES GUYS
since you know how to go into recovery mode so i'll skip that part,
use this adb tool instead https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001607611
If you have an external sdcard take it out and copy the firmware you want to side load and copy it to the external sdcard. Now name it "MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip" and reboot to fastboot and choose recovery. It should automatically flash the firmware. Move it to a folder when you are done or it will install automatically every time you reboot to recovery.

I have no bootloader that I'm aware of..

My phone: Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe NON PRO with the snapdragon 820 2.15ghz CPU..
When I try to enter fastboot mode my phone just goes nowhere and sits there. If I hard reset the phone it turns on again.. Calls and works but take one picture with camera and it shuts off.. gets the picture oddly.
Ive installed ADB on my PC and I'm about to start seeing if I can talk to the phone in fastboot even though the phone itself shows nothing at all. This happened during a failed upgrade and has NOT been able to upgrade since. I'm on 6.0 still.. failed 7.0
My question: Is there a certain way I should attempt to flash the files using ADB? I do have the RAW files from Asus support..
I'm going to post a couple pictures and a short video if needed to make this easier to understand for anyone reading this, I'm just going to try some simple commands first in ADB and see if the phone responds first. I have a feeling this could make everything much much easier if it does.
Try to enter fastboot or flash from here?
I have no recovery that I know of my phone goes totally dead when its in recovery mode and doesn't seem to respond to anything at all BUT.. When I plug in a cable it makes the connecting sound over the PC.. I'm about to try a few different scenarios of trying to enter fastboot other than manually with the side buttons but if that doesn't work what are my odds of repairing my file system from this state? I can get into MOST of the files in the LS.. but not all I do not have root access but I can get into pretty much everything else just FYI. If anyone has any questions or advice feel free to chime in at anytime.
I got into fastboot using command.
I assume its pretty straight forward from here I'll just post the steps I'm about to take or links to what guide or guides I follow just in case anyone else suffers from this in the future.
I used the commands in the following order :
adb devices (to start the server)
adb shell (to get connected to the phone)
reboot bootloader (to reboot into fastboot)
When the phone rebooted it looked stuck on the Asus logo but once it settled I tried the command :
fastboot devices (BAM it showed up instantly)
Now I have downloaded some RAW STOCK and TWRP files I'm I'm planning to restore my factory 6.0 ROM.
If this is successful then I plan to make a backup... and then sleep before I play more lol

Trying to install Kali Nethunter on OnePlus 7T unable to mount partitions error

Hello thanks for reading,
I've spent about 2 days trying to figure this one out so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've flashed it back to stock rom "hotdogb_14_O.22_210127.ops" with the MSM tool and flashed recovery TWRP to it, but I am consistently receiving the error
" Failed to mount '/system_ext' (Block device required)" in TWRP when i'm trying to write zip files and disable encryption.
when it comes to install anything, I get this same message and it fails - where am I going wrong? i've tried wiping it and repair as ext4 but nothing, same deal... any ideas?
Thanks in advance
