Hi all!
I have asked help many times and some have tried to help me but still I have bad battery life on my Nexus and I don't know what to do..
My Galaxy Nexus was in phone service and they changed battery + flashed same ROM again.. (ICL53F.I9250XWKL2)
And when I got my Nexus back then battery life was only little bit better, still it was draining little bit too fast..
I don't like 4.0.2 version or older so I flashed IMM76I 4.0.4 YAKJU ROM, battery was more badder and then I flashed IMM76D via Fastboot and I had still bad battery life..
Now I'm using ICL53F.I9250XWKL2 YAKJUXW build again (4.0.2, Samsung's ROM not Google)..
So right now Battery is left:
66% and phone have been on 14 hours 16 minutes
Phone in idle 13 hours 43 minutes, uses 15% battery
Screen 30%, Screen have been on only 33 minutes
I listened music 35 minutes and it took 24% battery..
And when I do not use my phone (phone is in idle)
WiFi is on
using stock launcher
stock kernel
original stock baseband radio
It drains fast..
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM/WCDMA (gsm) that I bought in Finland
carrier: dna
original ROM was ICL53F.I9250XWKL2 or older version of that 4.0.1
I'm using stock kernel (not changed)
baseband: XXKK6 (not changed)
Battery can't drain so fast, I had much better battery life when I used my Gnex at first time..
Can anybody help me to figure out this problem?
Plz. help me if you can!
I have tested these ROMs:
IMM76D Fastboot
IMM76I update from IMM76D to IMM76I
ICL53F fastboot
ICL53F.I9250XWKL2 FASTBOOT!!!
ARHD 4.0.1 CWM...
IMM76I CWM flashable ROM
These basebands:
XXLA2
XXKK6
XXKL1
These bootloaders:
PRIMEKK15
PRIMELA03
Kernels:
Stock original Kernel 3.0.8
custom kernels:
CMPlus tuna
Jame Bond
I really need help!
Thanks if someone can help me to figure out this battery drain problem..
also I charge my Gnex with USB and Samsung charger, not Gnex charger.. (same watts, etc.)
EDIT: This my thread is still alive!
but I don't have battery life issues anymore.. My nexus's battery life is now a bit better but still drains fast which is normal for Galaxy Nexus!
I can use my Nexus 2 hours 30 minutes screen on and then I have lees than 6% batter life on my nexus, I listen really much music from my nexus in school but that's not affecting much to my Nexus's battery...
RE: Battery
Things you said were true:
1. Your phone has been on for 14 hours and you have 66% Battery remaining
2. If you had not listened to music for one half hour, you would have 80% remaining after 14 hours off charger.
Why exactly do you expect better battery life? That's pretty ****ing good.
I'm 15h 35m on battery, 24% remaining, and screen has taken 39% of the discharged amount, being on for 44 total minutes.

I haven't use my Nexus..
more than 90% my Nexus have been in "idle" that takes too much battery..
ZTE Blade: 2 days 8 hours in idle waiting PIN code and 20% battery left, battery:1250mAh (4,7Wh)
Nexus S: I don't have it but in many pictures can see that Nexus have much battery left when it has been used 2/3 days.. My Galaxy Nexus can't even have so much battery left in 2 days. :/

I used to have a Nexus S. Now have the Galaxy Nexus. Nexus S had worse battery life. What are you comparing the Galaxy Nexus to really?
Was the ZTE Blade connected to a cell network, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth? How many sync apps were installed? How many G accounts and other accounts were setup?
The android battery screen always paints a crappy image of how the battery was really used. It neither simple like the iPhone nor detailed of how much power was actually drawn. So its useless in my opinion.

Ok, on ZTE Blade i have two Google Accounts, WiFi is always on, GPS is on when needed, Bluetooth is not on, 3G disabled, etc.
ROM is CM7.1 newest Nightly.. (CM7.2 RC is using much more battery so I don't use CM7.2)
16 installed apps..
ICS launcher, theme, Flash player, games, Gapps...
on Galaxy Nexus I have disabled data connection 2G/3G and bluetooth too..
on ZTE Blade I don't use Facebook app and the FB app does not eat so much battery as many people think..

When charging: It stack to 99% not charging to 100%, if charges it would take another hour.. I charged my Nexus whole night! more than 6 hours!
Do not say that some apps or Kernel would use so much battery!
Kernel is stock and first time when I got my GN all worked fine!
I don't have many apps installed!
Facebook, Dolphin browser HD, CM9 music player, Radio ball 3D, Fruit Roll, GTA III, etc.
I can't even use my nexus!
Battery is changed and still same problem..
Phone in "IDLE" uses too much battery too as you see on the picture..
I do not buy any app so if you guys say use betterbatterysytats then I gonna tell you, : I do not use that if i have to buy it, and I do not have time to find it from internet.
I listened music in school 25 minutes and it didn't use so much battery: (10% less by listening music 25 minutes, from headphones...)
then I didn't actually use more my GN and battery is left so less!

From what I gather it sounds like your answering your own problem.
If your not actually using your phone (talking, texting etc) then there is something running in the background causing the problem.
There are a metric crap ton of posts here on XDA about battery's and poor life.
More or less you need to read read read and teach yourself how to solve your problem. That said, two things you mentioned caught my eye, a) Facebook app and b) Wifi being on. The combination of the two can cause a lot of additional battery use.
My personal rule of thumb: LTE = Off unless I am going to download something specific, Data = On, allways, Wifi = I have an app (free) that turns it on whenever I connect a charger and turns it off when I disconnect. If I somewhere that has wifi (say McDonalds), AND I need to download something fast, I'll enable it, and connect to the hot spot, other than than Wifi = off GPS = always on. Im running Franco Kernel #162r, AOKP themed with Ruby Elegance, and I get on a day with moderate useage 30+ hours out of a charge, on a day with heavy use (talk all day, music on for 8 hours, lots of screen) I can make it through about 10-12 hours.
I concur with the above, get BetterBatteryStats and check for a wakelock preventing deep sleep, but if wifi = on and FB is synching, I would be surprised if your phone ever slept
In addition I do not have the FB app, never liked it.
Best of luck to you.
*EDIT* In looking at the stats you provided above, I again, say remove FB and turn off wifi and check again. Your phone was in deep sleep for over 1 day, its the 3 hours of 350Mhz that strikes me as interesting, could be the phone waking up due to wifi (looking for a network or parsing garbage packets, or connecting to FB)

Right now on My Nexus I have not used Facebook app I haven't even opened it, because I'm using more the Facebook on Android's browser..
I have read many many pages to figure out the problem but no luck!
on Google.code issues I tried to find how to fix it but I didn't find nothing..
I installed BetterBatteryStats but I don't know how to use it..
I just unplugged from charging so I let it to be opened and I have to remove MIUI Launcher just in case.
And I do not flash any franco kernel, because once I tested it and it had too bad battery life on my Nexus. also franco kernel is Milestone not even Beta if i remember right and I do not like any ROM, Kernel that is Alpha, milestone or beta.. (if I remember fine then it is milestone..)
Whatever how hard I try to find answers to my problem I don't just find the answer!
I do not bring my Nexus again to phone service because they can't ix the problem, they think that hard reset or battery changing would fix the problem.
I removed OI file manager, Facebook, System tuner, Miui settings + launcher and few others.. (THIS WILL NOT MAKE MY BATTERY BETTER AND NOW MY NEXUS IS JUST BORING PHONE WITH FEW APPS TO HAVE BETTER BATTERY LIFE, this might save only 2% battery)
Try De installing fb app. This one really kills my battery on my nexus and my sgs2....In my opinion the app is not ics compatible. Try it and report back. I'm sure this is it...

OK, Nothing better..
Pictures of Better Battery stats...:
What about...
Ok, well I purchased my Galaxy Nexus yesterday. Charged it up full. It's been on battery 12h 9m 2s and I have 9% battery left. Here are the stats:
Screen: 46% (I've adjusted these settings since I saw this)
Voice Calls: 35% (1h 27m 23s)
Phone Idle?: 7%
Cell Standby? (what's the difference between Phone Idle and Cell Standby): 6%
Mediaserver? (what's this?): 2%
Android System: 2%
Android OS? (different than System?): 2%
Atomic Bomber (my little guilty pleasure game): 2% (4m 48s)
So, is this reasonable battery life? Other than the 1.5 hours of phone and the screen settings needing a tweak (lowered brightness a bit, automatic screen off after 30 sec instead of 2 min!), can I expect longer battery life from this phone?
Thanks!
There's nothing wrong with your battery life.
There is, however, something wrong with your expectations.
Adjust accordingly and move on.
2 hours for 13% so about 1 hour 30 minutes for 10% let's say (rough). That's about 15 hours of battery life. Seems pretty average. You can try undervolting your kernel, setting a maximum CPU frequency for screen off, and make sure your screen brightness is set to 'automatic'.
If you use your phone outside a lot for browsing/ screen on time it'll hurt your battery life. The phone turns the brightness up when it's outside or in a bright area.
Dear Friends,
On 25th Oct 2012 me & my brother bought ourselves Galaxy Nexus. The day i bought it i was in love with it.
But the next day onward my nexus started giving issue.
Problem:- The cell phone battery does not last for than 5hrs. No application running, kept brightness nill but still battery last for not more then 5hrs. I have to charge my nexus three times in a day.
But with its not the same case with my brother. He charged his phone on 26th Oct morning and his battery life was showing 27% used by the end of the day.
I teired everything, I almost drained my battery to 1% and charged it again to 100%. but no results. i checked the battery option in setting and i found that my screen is using 96% of my battery. But i have not kept any Live wallpapers and have kept brightness to zero, still my screen is using 96% of my battery. I even tried changing the battery, yet results were negative.
I seriously dont know what to do.
Please help me friends.
Thnaks.
I did a charge to full on my battery when I received the phone, and planned on running it down to 5% the next day. Problem was, I went to be before it reached 20% (over 24 hours since last recharge). Is your phone stock? Can you post any battery life pics?
dhriak,
Get it exchanged for a new one. Sounds like it's faulty if even changing to a different battery doesn't do anything.
Try Juice Defender basic or ultimate from play store and tell us if it fixes the draining issue
I just bought my GNex off of someone from Craigslist the other day. The phone is in perfect condition, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. But the issue I'm getting is the battery drains extremely fast, but only when I have my screen on. I am running AOKP milestone 1 ROM with Anarchy Kernel. But, I have tried lean kernel as well as 2 others and they all gave me the same problem. When I have my screen off it drops 1 or 2% over the course of an hour, and that's while leaving 4G LTE turned on. Only sync I have is GMail and weather, but weather is on a 6 hour interval. I do have Facebook as well as Hanging with Friends, but as I stated even with those apps, which I get very few notifications for in the first place, the only time my battery drains is with screen on, as I lose about 20% battery per hour if I am using the screen and while I use it I can actually just sit and watch the battery percent drop, regardless if I am using data or not. I can provide screenshots another time if needed, and I have installed better battery stats to monitor this over the next couple of days. I think when I checked yesterday at work before I had to charge with less than 10% left, my screen had been used only 1.5 hours, or less, for the 4-5 hours I had my phone off the charger. Are my expectations just too high? Granted, I just came from the HTC Thunderbolt which had a terrible battery as well, which I used to disable data, sync, etc. to get good life, but eventually graduated to the extended battery. Also, do you think this could also be from the phone's previous owner not properly charging it or leaving plugged in too long? I am considering getting the 2100 mAh battery, but am weighing that with other options first.
EDIT: Also, I noticed sometimes when I charge it while at work, thus leaving it turned on, it takes well under 2 hours to fully charge. Is that normal? Seemed very fast to me.

I've had 3 or 4 different evo's and it's been almost impossible to receive decent battery life on almost any rom. It started with CM6 and I switched even though I loved it and went to Baked Snack or some other rom that stated battery life, but it just always ends up dropping on me no matter what. I thought my expectations were too high, I just recently got my last replacement and it's now 3-4 days old. I heard how CM7 and Miui's latest had excellent battery life so I couldn't wait to test them. I first tried CM7 and as long as it's on stand by or not being used the battery was pretty decent I guess. That's with Green Power free running btw. when I turn the phone on to start using it, the percentages just drop. Tried Miui after hearing how good the new battery life is and almost the same thing.
So, that led me to believe it was due to some program, but for the most part I keep these stock. One of the first things I setup are a Gmail account, FB account setup... then of course my apps are added automatically hardly any widgets ever run. If anything it's Buzzbox, I've got beautiful widget's clock now. I use Vlingo, not sure if it's a hog. When I check the battery stats, there's nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. Anyways... there's got to be something wrong, I'm guessing. I've got a regular battery and an extended battery and they both do terrible. I'm going to install a rom from scractch with nothing loaded at all and test the battery. I hate to do that, because testing will take awhile especially with adding one program/widget at a time to monitor the percentages lost.
Here's a list of apps I normally have on my evo and run occassionally:
Vlingo
Green Power Free
Juice Defender (before green power and GB)
handcent
buzzbox
facebook
Swype
Google Services
Voicemail
Are any of these battery abusers without me knowing it?
I normally keep wifi on and connect to it over the 3g data, although I believe Green Power said it cant control the data on the GB roms as of now.
Today, I started with 98% with my extended battery, CM7 and now at 1:00PM I'm at 70% Minimal usage.
Sorry for the long post.
Bluetooth is off most time and Wifi like I mentioned usually is on, because I heard it uses less power than mobile.
sorry for the long post.
Just looking for some assistance.
Restore it to stock.
Calibrate your battery.
Use it for a few days without installing all your apps. If the battery still sucks, then you are probably going places that do not have signal and the phone is searching a lot. Check About - Battery for time without signal.
get a seidio 3500 mah battery and you will enjoy your phone with every little feature turned up to the max

Of course it's not as bad as the original, but watching the batter go down 10% while I'm using it is very disheartening. Awhile back, I was able to get decent battery life, but I can't remember what rom, it might have been Baked Snack like 1.6 lol, guessing anyway.

Nuggyunlimited looks like he is onto something. I do not know if he has 4G or not?
I have had my best luck with mikFroyo.
What is going on with google maps? I have the same problem wiht MikFroyo
I am one of the heaviest users around, I stream pandora for about 8 hours , listen to music app about 2 to 3, check facebook and certain websites constantly, my two email acounts check every five minutes, my brightness is at 100 percent, my gps and location services are on, I'm overclocked...using 4.3 mikfroyo with sbc number 7...at the moment I'm using miui with sbc 7 for aosp roms, depends what you do, but either way no matter what kernal or rom you use I'll tell you, this battery will last you all day, this battery changed my evo experience...
edit: I don't use setcpu for profiles, just for overclocking, i dont use juice defender, the useless task killer or anything
edit 2: Conductive i had the same problem update to 4.4 or 4.3

so let me get this straight, average use is 8 hours of pandora, 8 hours of sleep, and that leaves 8 hours for facebook and etc, so lets say 4 hours total for a guesstimate, leaving 4 hours of non activity of the phone being off. 20/24 hours is "average use". I mean this is not a competition of who uses theyre phone more, all im saying is that with this battery you can do pretty much whatever you want without caring with ANY rom or ANY kernal you want.

Both facebook accounts every 15 minutes same with both.twitter accounts on xda off and on all day I.text a lot and use g talk a lot with a few calls I wasnt posting it as a battle I was actually just saying we get about the same times but I use the phone a little more and I was agreeing with you that the battery works wonders

i just got my evo after a hero.
the battery life is exactly what i expected. ive got a stock sense, rooted with clockwork.
i dont use widgets, no auto syncs. i have complete control over my device and it never leaves my hand. that being typed, i can get about 13 hours of up time.
yes, id like the battery to last longer but im not willing to have a fatty evo for the 3500mAh battery. I purchased a second stock battery, official HTC, so if Im gonna have a long day, ill have a battery with me.

Ok, yesterday I loaded Miui with nothing additional except changing the LCD density to 200, green power (which is useless since wifi doesn't work with this kernel) and right now I'm at 14h, 49m since unplugged with 17% left (normal battery). That's with minimal to average use. I notice when I'm using it, I can watch the percentages just drop, so I guess it's functioning normally and it's due to just my usage and programs, I'm probably expecting too much from my battery, once again I guess. I'm going to try your rom next with my extended battery.
I know what stock battery users go through, and with heavy use they don’t last too long, but I’m now in a different, horrible place entirely and I have the 3500 mAh battery!
I know that something is clearly wrong with my Evo but no one seems to know what it is. As I said I’m also using a 3500 mAh battery, but not to any advantage. In fact I get considerably less usage with this now then I used to get with the stock 1500mAh battery, regardless of the ROM or kernel.
Current specs:
HTC EVO 4G, Hardware 0003
16GB Wintec Class10 MicroSD
SEIDIO 3500mAH Battery/Camera Protector
Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.7.7 (have run several different Sense and CM ROMs)
HTC kernel #15v7 (doesn’t matter, have tried stock and every TM, regular and SBC)
Quadrant ≈ 1365
Linpack ≈ 33.05 MFLOP
and…(drum-roll please)
Battery Life: 70% after 6 hours, literally next to no usage.
Before middle of last November, if I charged the phone fully (without the benefits of SBC), and then just unplugged it on a Saturday night and let it sit unused for like 19-hours, the charge would be around 89%, +/- 1%, with the stock battery. In that same scenario now the 3500 mAh battery would have shut the phone down long before 19-hours rolled around.
Yesterday, using the 3500 mAh extended battery, no phone calls, Bluetooth on for about 20-miutes this morning for the drive to work and was turned off upon my arrival, and I’ve sent and received 4-5 messages on GTalk. That’s it.
The current status:
Charge: 70%
5h 52min unplugged
Up time: 6:15
Awake time: 1:20
Battery Usage screen:
Cell Standby: 42%
Phone Idle: 43%
Android System: 8%
Bluetooth: 4%
Display: 3%
Phone runs great; everything works great, no other issues. It once fell about 10”-12” onto plush carpet (kitten attack). It was in the Sprint case with the stock battery then, and has not been dropped otherwise. If anything, I am ridiculously careful with it.
Something happened the middle of last November like a switch was flipped, and battery life has been horrible ever since. Since we got our Evos back in the very beginning of June, 2010, I don’t think that returning it to the Sprint Store was an option then or now.
No one seems to have seen anything like this or have any clue what the issue might be, but it was suggested that I RRU it back to original, update it to current and then test the battery usage. Then, basically just live with it and see if it helped. After that, I’ll re-root and get on with life, whether battery life is better or not.
Any constructive thoughts are welcome. Thank you for your time.
Note: my apologies is this constitues a thread hijacking; not my intention, just saw title of the thread and it sounds like my life.

Thank you for the input. I thought about that so I tried the 3500 mAh in my wife's stock Evo and it runs forever. I'm so envious! I've swapped her stock battery and mine and they both run the same in either phone.
In mine, the stock battery usage is proportional, too. Fully charged and unplugged at 6:00 AM and with absolutely zero usage, sleeping screen off the entire time, by around 2:00 PM the stock battery was at 41%. That was also with very minimal synching (I've tweaked those settings nicely), no bluetooth, etc. I believe that the awake time was like 36mins. Sick, but unfortunately not in a good way.
Since it can't hurt, I think that I may do the RUU thing this weekend and then re-root afterwards. It may not help, but its literally the only thing that I can think of that I haven't tried.
Again, thanks for your thoughts. Have a great day!

Sorry, I've bypassed your rom for so long, but I've got it loaded now. Looking forward to trying it out. I can't lie I love and miss CM7 and Miui, but if my battery seems to last longer with a sense rom, then I'll be switching. So far it is very snappy and quick. Do you recommend I stick with the stock kernel or switch to something else? Do you use any setcpu, juice defender, green power or anything?
Do you have theme's as well?
Updating a titanium backup for my apps now.
I'll post back how it goes. I would say I had the same problem as the user above, but this has happened on mutliple phones and roms.
I know with a new phone you need to cycle the battery quite a few times. Someone told me roms were similar, even though I never understood why. Would you say that's true? In order to give the rom time to adjust to the battery and settings you need to give it 3-5 days?
I've gotten the 2,100 mAh extended battery. I've turned off lte. and with NO web surfing or video, I run out of juice in 6 -7 hours. Not even a lot of calls. Maybe 20 minutes max. In Settings, the battery tab shows Android OS using 60% of the battery. My wife's Droid X show Android OS at 2%
What's going on? What could be using so much of the battery?
Any references to where tishas been discussed?
sean
how many days have you been using the extended battery? i also had 6-8 hours when i first got it, but just wait a couple of days, you will be fine. it takes a couple days for the battery to actually settle. i have had the extended battery for over a month and now i get 12-14 hours on one charge, with LTE & WiFi & GPS on, 40% brightness, and quite a lot of use
Just got mine yesterday... also having similar results the first full day of use...took off the charger at 10 and was at 25% by 6. I was at work only slightly browsing forums, web, calls, etc ...

Me too got my gnex and full charged at 8am and usually i will be down to 25% by noon.
I have tried flashing kernel (fransco) and rom (bigxie) and same.
They are talking about the device is not getting deep sleep. Any recommendations on what apps could have wait up or prevent the phone from getting deep sleep? I assume email push, IMs? But then iphone has them too and they can last long...
Any help is appreciated. Thx.
when you get a new battery, the first few days are gonna suck.
I'm sitting at 14.5 hours @ 29% left. I leave 4g on all the time. I'm a moderate user, heavy user sometimes.
Yes Android OS is the culprit. The problem went away after I put a the Open Kang Project rom on it.
I didn't hear about an official 2100 mAh battery. Maybe it's not original. Not original batteries are most of the time over stated. you can remove 50% of the mAh in that case.
I bought the official 2000 mAh battery with a new back cover (because the old one won't fit) and it gave me 10-20% more autonomy. Now it's up to 12h

Just root and flash a custom rom. I'm on the standard battery and getting 1.5 days with moderate use 3G + Wifi on Manhattan IC112 rom with overclocking enabled to 1.32Ghz (using imoseyon kernel that come preloaded), bluetooth on half the time, sync on, and a ton of extra features. (full day with moderate-heavy usage).
Almost similar performance on MCR Ir10 rom.
Using XXKK6 radio.

This is nonsense. AOKP probably does provide better battery life but that has nothing to do with "Android OS" being "the culprit". Battery life for Android OS is reported differently in ICS than in any previous version of Android, that's why it shows a higher % than previously. It's neither a bad nor a good thing.
Alright, before anyone tries to bash me for not searching the thread. I want to let you know I spend an hour searching the forums for my question exactly.
Is there anyone out there who has compared the stock 1850 mAh battery to the extended 2100 mAh one?
I have had stock since December. And I am now completely sick of the battery life. 4.0.4 did improve the battery life but it is still dismal. I have the Galaxy S3 for my work phone and that phone's battery runs laps around the Nexus. And that battery is 2100 mAh.
My S3 is always easily getting me through 1.5 - 2 days with more usage than my Nexus!!! Both phones have the same exact settings. (4G always on, GPS always on, WiFi on at home, Google sync on for everything, Skype on all day).
My biggest complaint is on the days where I am not home or at work. Whenever I go out, I don't use my phone so that I can leave some battery there to make sure that I am able to make calls if needed. And even that doesn't work most of the time. My phone will still die before I call it a night. I love the Nexus, and I cannot wait for Jellybean and would like to keep this phone for a long time (even though I have an upgrade available). I am basically trying to decide between extended battery or the external charger with a spare battery option. I would much rather get the extended battery because I am not too keen on carrying an extra battery with me. I would rather put in the extended battery and forget about it. I understand that theoretically the increase in battery is only 13% but to me that doesn't mean **** since the S3 lasts me 2-3 times longer than the Nexus with the same exact settings. So in real world usage, how much of an increase is the extended battery?
Thanks!

I'm barely able to get through a full day with the extended battery. I mainly use my phone during the day on WiFi. With the activity level that you posted, I don't think the 2100 mAh would be a huge improvement on battery life (maybe an extra hour tops?). Also, I don't like the little hump that it gets with the extended battery attached. I'm running mRom 4.1.1 at the moment.
When I got my nexus in May, I thought I would run the stock battery for a while, but it was terrible for me. In a week, I bought the bigger battery. I wanted to keep the slim profile, so I went with the 2150 with the slightly bumped door, don't even notice the size difference.
The bigger battery makes a big difference for me. Can't say exactly how much longer, but definitely better. I also purchased Juice Defender Ultimate. After tweaking the settings, it reports nearly double the battery. Sometimes it takes a minute to connect to a network if it has my radios off, but not a huge issue for me.
In all, I'd say the nexus is pretty rough on battery. Big screen and 4g, what are you going to do?

Extended Battery 2000mah.. i'm easily getting 24+ hours with moderate usage with data on, sync on, location settings on, 60% brightness..
bigxie 4.1.1 rom + imoseyon 4.2 kernel.. overall very happy with it..
i've had the extended battery for 2 mths now so i guess its conditioned now.
i can actually use my phone and not worry about the battery dying..
i have the s3 as well, but don't really use it yet because i am still waiting for my case to ship from china..
Battery
The 2100 is nice to have just because it doesn't add a lot of bulk. But I only get 18 hours max.
Today I have had my Nexus unplugged for 10 hours and with 1 hour of screen usage battery is down to 25%
My S3 has been unplugged for 12 hours and with 1 hour of screen usage it is at 68%
Wtf!! Battery is so horrible. Google I want to love your bone stock, "this is the ideal Android" phone but this battery is pathetic!!! What the ****.
I bought my phone at $300, I gotta buy another battery for either $25 or $40. They never made the real pogo pin car mount and expect us to buy a piece of plastic for $40. They released the pogo pin dock after 8 months for ****ing $90. Holy ****. This is so frustrating. The first phone I thought I would actually buy all the accessories for, and keep for a good 2-3 years has been a complete failure.

Now that I could live with.. 3 hours of screen time?! Have never seen that on my Nexus, not even when at home, on wifi all day! Is that with the official extended battery or what?
I think I may just have to root my phone and run another ROM and a good kernel. I have been avoiding this because I work for VZW and sell phones for a living. I demonstrate my phone all the time and did not want to be running some crazy mods and having customers saying WTF! lol I guess I should only use the S3 for demonstrations and use my Nexus the way I want to.
Yes battery life is abysmally poor, but it's really a non issue - a package with 3 spare standard batteries and external charger is ~$12 on Ebay, including shipping. They don't last that long, 4-6 months or so, but then I just buy a new package. I'm on my third so far. Love having a couple of fresh spare batteries in my back pocket.
But the battery panel sucks. It's attached with these tiny plastic hooks that break off after a few times use. If only someone would make a more solid back panel. the metal ones are slightly better but much thicker so the phone no longer fit into the dock, and NFC and GPS sensitivity is down the drain.
AW: Stock vs Extended Battery review?
forget about stock battery summary... its useless. try out betterbatterystats (xda or market). it may help you find out whats going on. i can get 23h standby with over 3hrs screenon with stock battery (stock rom 4.2.1 with Franco) which is pretty good compared to what im used to
the only time i got such bad runtime (13hrs+1h screen + 20% left) was with over 2hrs without mobile signal
which is to expected...
imho there are 3 major drainer on every phone: screen, bad mobile signal, some app that prevents phone from deepsleep'ing

sry forgot. this was with 3g only as i have the gsm gnex also wifi always on auto brightness everything else off
but with "perfect" mobile signal
BBS tells me i'm loosing 0.4% per h while phone doing nothing.
i also got the extended bat now which gives me about 1-1.5h extra screen on time.
but for the record: its very easy to drain even the ext. battery fast: playing 3d heavy game for 4-5hrs with 6hrs uptime and its at 3%
so no voodoo here

well don't mistake me - 0.4% was the lowest value i got turning on the phone after idling and starting bbs ..
it will be higher if would do more stuff more regulary i guess
i only sync 1 IMAP account hourly and Google background stuff (incl. being online in gtalk and g+ notifications)
autobrightness on
wlan was connected and always on
BT/GPS off
no special setup just using Francos kernel with stock rom
just check wakelocks and deepsleep values maybe its an app

I received today the extender battery from shipshop.
Wow the extended cover makes the phone better IMHO. I'm charging it.
It included a screen protector for free!
The extended battery makes the battery life from bad to "normal". I can reach easily 4 h of screen on time. Stand by is around 18-19 hours, finally I can leave home in the morning and return at night with some battery.
I weighted them:
Samsung Original Extended Battery 2000mAh - 44 g
Samsung Original Stock Battery 1750mAh - 38 g (Which makes sense, we are talking about 45 mAh per gram)
Chinese Battery 1900mAh (Same size than stock) - 32 g (So it's a scam, I'm sure they don't have more mAh per gram than Samsung)
This is the cheap battery I am reffering to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MQEPW0/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (It works fine, but it must be around 1500-1400mAh).
I hope you enjoy this information.
Is NFC affected by the Extended batteries?
Running 4.2.2 I get 9h of standby and 1h screen on at the most on a HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus using a OEM 2000mAh extended battery.
I checked wakelocks and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone else getting this bad battery life?
A phone that dies half through the day with light usage is pretty much useless. (I've had to use the 1750, 2000 and the 3800 battery to come through the day.)
Depends if you have any apps syncing a lot or using the radios a lot.
Signal strength plays a big role in battery life as well.

Signal strenght was mostly good with the occasional no signal, 10 min total.
Still, it shouldn't be this bad.

I just started using a Nexus this week. I came from a RAZR M. The first thing I noticed was the lack of battery life. I found a couple tweaks to help with this issue.
They are: disable network time and date sync, 3g only till you really need to charge through some web browsing, undervolt to 1GHz, and minimal to 383 or so. I flashed the Franco kernel and use the Wheatley governor. Auto brightness was on auto. I also have the 2100mah battery.
I can almost reach 3 hours screen time per charge. I didn't realize that's a feat so I haven't taken a screenshot. My M got around 5 hours screen time. Ugh.. But the Gnex has won me over.

And if you undervolt too much it will actually destroy your battery life

My device is deep sleeping fine, it is really a 3G/data issue. On wifi I can get 4h screen on and days of standby, no problem. But on mobile data my battery just evaporates in thin air.
I think the real problem is the 3G radio power management, that was excellent on 4.0 or 4.1 (never had issues) but on 4.2 it is outrageous.
The thing is, on wifi (home/work/...) I have the possibility to charge my phone. If I'm on HSPA+, I haven't.
My stats on wifi at the moment: 2h standby, 35min screen on 89% left.
Select 2G only if you do not really need 3G or LTE for phone and data! For simple phone calls or texting, the quality is not much different between 2G, 3G or LTE. In fact, in my city, there is more 2G than 3G and LTE transmissions.
It will at lease save you 30% battery.
I can put my phone on 2G only, but than I can't search something when I'm on a call, get delayed sms (really noticable). Not mentioning 2G is a pain in the ass, even for IM and email.
And constantly switching between 2G and 3G is also not a good option for battery life. Turning LTE off on a maguro won't do anything.
It doesn't matter how many features you turn off, battery life will not improve. Your phone will become a dumbphone and it will still die on you. I recommend to stop turning on the screen constantly and use it lightly. The screen used on this device is not efficient at all. I hope the next Nexus greatly improves on battery life or I'm switching to something else.

Android OS is high, BBS will tell you what it is, it's usually a kernel wakelock. Also if you don't use Maps, disable it, because since they brought the offline prefetching, it starts services like mad and runs in BG. Android AOSP has it's own location services and MapView, so you won't loose that.
My phone has become almost unusable after receiving the 4.2.2 update (on Verizon, totally stock phone). Battery has gotten as hot as 113F at times, and I can watch it decrease 1% at a time very quickly...
BBS keeps pointing to Exchange. I removed the account the first day and added it back in and that seemed to have helped initially but now is no longer the case. I haven't wiped the phone in over a year plus so this is my next step.
Is there any way to see what apps were recently updated?
Same battery problems for me (maguro). Not long ago I could use the phone for around 48 hours without charging, and suddenly one day to another it all changed and is drained within 9 - 10 hours. I have tried everything:
- monitoring with betterbatterystats (nothing out of the ordinary),
- tried different roms (including stock 4.0, 4.1),
- tried monitoring with betterbatterystats without any apps installed (disbled google apps to prevent syncing), without wifi / 3g / location services / NFC etcetera, even without sim card. --> No big battery draining wakelocks.
- tried different kernels
- tried new battery
- checked if phone was going into deep sleep (did that fine)
All without any impact, the battery life is still very bad (easily draining 5+ % per hour, if it is on standby all the time).
I'm starting to think it might be a hardware problem, I don't know what to do anymore without sending it back for warranty.
3 initial things I always look for when diagnosing somebody's battery woes:
1) Have you loaded (adb then fastboot) the totally stock nexus images from Google's website? At least for 3 days and no additional apps installed
2) How old and what is the usage of your OEM battery? If you're using a 3rd party battery who knows what will happen
3) What's your signal strength like in your daily travels? Bad signal will eat your battery almost as much as screen time
If you still have bad battery after thinking about those 3 questions then you have a unique situation. Otherwise, your problem might be simpler than it seems
IMO, turning off gps/wifi etc doesn't really help with battery life, at most 1-2%. Usually what causes battery to drain faster is when apps prevent the phone from sleeping, or if they're constantly running in the background.
Hey guys,
after dropping my beloved Nexus 4 to the concrete floor in May, I bought a new S4 mini in the electronic market because of it's decent size and all the fuzz about having a very good price-performance-ratio.
After a few weeks I already was fairly disappointed.
On an average work day (without WiFi) and little use (~30min OSD) the battery wouldn't last a full day. I tried the usual things like turning off GPS, bluetooth and using Wifi whenever possible (turning it off, when not in range), etc. I also used the App greenify which boosted my deepsleep in Wakelock Detector to stable 85+%.
When using GMaps/navigation my phone is getting hot (~50°C) and battery is drained within minutes. When trying to navigate out of the city (<15min navigation) one day my phone was discharged within 3 hours after a full charge. I got Wakelock Detector, Better Battery Stats and Battery Monitor Widget installed.
The only thing I found out, that when I am connected to Wifi the drain is a lot lower 1-2%/hour compared to when I am using 3G/H+ which results in 7-15%/hour (both when not using the phone), although there is no problem with signal quality. Recently my phone started to bottoming out rly hard when hitting the 20% mark. From there I can watch the battery dropping to 0% within a few minutes.
Things I tried so far:
- turning off features that are not in use (GPS, bluetooth, Wifi when not in range)
- make sure phone gets into deep sleep/greenify apps
- recalibrate akku
- reduce brightness & disable auto-brightness
Setup:
GT-I9195 bought in May 2015 from electronic market chain
CM 12.1 (Android 5.1.1, serranoltexx)
Standard CM Kernel
Baseband I9195XXUBML4
I can provide Screenshots from BMW, WD and BBS. Any ideas how to solve this or what else I could do?
Probably you should use something like better battery stats, to check
- if a service is going mad, then turn it off with disable service to test (most times happens with unclean flash)
- if you have an app with wakelocks
If you can't find anything that way, might be a hardware fault.
Personally if I came across this problem I would return the phone to stock Android and do some tests, see if the same happens again. CM12.1 can have issues across different same model phones. Try the Samsung Phone Info app to see how old your phone is. I'm guessing it was second hand? Some older revisions of the Mini had battery problems. Maybe a new battery is needed? Maybe.. As for the battery draining 20%-0% in minutes I have also suffered this on a brand new March 2015 device. Not all the time though it only happens with randomly once a week. But I put that down to the battery not been fully calibrated and then drained and recharged over the next 3 4 days, as I use a spare battery and swap out the batteries regularly which means my battery is very rarely calibrated.
All that said though I can easily get through an entire day if not 2. And using stock I'm able to get 4 and a half hours on average every time, maybe 4 hours of screen on time when using 3G a lot and GPS etc.

I have had the same problem as you.
I return twice my phone to vendor. But they could do anything.
I solved it with undervolting and underclocking my phone (only the low frequency).
I read from someone, you can undervolting 150 millivolt.
My experience, is undervolting 125 milivolt. and underclocking the low frequency at the minimum.
You didn't feel any difference, behalves that the phone is cooler and battery live is better.
My WiFi and Bluetooth are always on. I don't have to recharge my phone during the day.
It is so effective en transparent that I don't understand why Samsung didn't do it natively.
Hey,
I tried to apply some of your advice and flashed the newest stock rom for S4 Mini (Kitkat ...COE4).
In that process I recognized that the Baseband is not updated by CM and that the one that was installed when I bought it was fairly old (from 2013). Do you think that this might be part of the problem? (I sort of hate the Samsung Rom)
This week when working and not having Wifi all day, I managed to get 2h of SOT and still had around 25% left which I couldnt have gotten before imo. I only lose 1-4% per hour when the phone is not used. But still thats not pretty good, when ur saying you can get 4h with GPS and everything. I also didnt use GPS. And today when I restarted my phone it just went from 40-ish % to 15% without any reason. Any more ideas?
I installed BetterBatteryStats today and will try to give some more insight the next days. Wakelock detector said that I had 85% deep sleep (timeframe 1 day 2 hours).

No I bought it new from a electronic store (Media Markt). The app says that is was made on Oct 19th 2014 in Vietnam and that it is original/not refurbished.
How much do you gain by undervolting (SOT or % per hour when idle)?
How do you do it?
maybe the best way is to downgrade by flashing CM11 for example ...
(another way with stock + Alexax kernel + own debloat&freeze ... )
I have the same consumption problem with Resurection Remix LP too ..... very strange !
Lollipop is supposed to be less angry than Android 4.X.X ... but it seem have problem somewhere for our S4-mini sources maybe ,i don't know ...
This night I did some BBS tests:
Setup:
Stock Rom I previously installed (see posts above)
charged phone during evening
set up custom timepoint before I went to sleep
WLAN disabled
all apps greenyfied except those I deemed significant that they keep running (Whatsapp, calendar, Swiftkey, BBS, BMW, etc). Forgot newly installed app hoomn.
I had to upload the logfile to pastebin because it was too long for the xda forum: pastebin.ca/3256568 (I am not allowed to post URLs, sorry)
I lost 14% of battery during 9hrs (-1,6%/h). That's probably not too bad?
93% deep sleep, 33min awake time
Weird things I discovered/things I did not understand:
- negative Voltage loss?
- Wifi runtime 100% although I disabled it
- dominant wakelocks (count > 100, all of them < 30s): Alarm Manager, RILJ1, *net_scheduler*, GCM_CONN, ContextManagerWakeLock, Event Log Service, AlarmManager (com.sec.spp.push.Samsung Push Service), SyncLoopWakeLock, GCM_HB_ALARM
- dominant KWLs (count > 100): ril-fd (25min), bam_dmux_wakelock (13min), radio-interface (7min), PowerManagerService.WakeLocks (3min), mmc1_detect (1min), alarm_rtc, alarm, sec-charger-monitor, smdcntl0, pm8921_soc_lock, power-supply, KeyEvents, smsm_snapshot, qmuxd_port_wl_0, qmuxd_port_wl_1, smdcntl1, mmc0_detect
- Alarms (>20): ccc71.bmw (Battery Monitor Widget), android, com.google.android.gms, com.sec.spp.push
any ideas/assessments?
