[Q] desire help regarding memory card ....... - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought my htc desire about two weeks ago, its used set with no warranty..............I rooted my phone and tried to partition it with gparted and installed Mildwild but the phone showed a corrupt memory card and gave an error to format it through phone which i did.........now iam using my phone without external partition but the problem I am facing since firstday is that the data in my memory always get corrupted especially image, audio and video files..........and another problem is that whenever i tried to install new rom i get an error E: can't install (file name).zip (bad installation)......
My question is that
is the problem is with my memory card?
should i buy a new one?
or is the problem is with my cell phone ?
thanx in advance
sorry for my english.......

Under windows, format the sd-card and untick "quick format", if it still doesn't work then it may be either phone or SD.
Try using somebody elses SD-card and see if you still get the problem. If you don't then it's obvious your sd is dead, if it does then you may have a problem with your phone.
If it is a problem with your phone it is probably likely a System related issue, so I would try a different ROM to see if you still get the error.

but this problem also occur in the official gingerbread 2.3 3 ....
so this means the problem is with sdcard???

It doesn't matter if it's official. Try those easy steps bortak told you and you'll see. If it's the sd, replace it, if it's the phone, don't.

[Q] Can't mount SD card (no ROM installed) [SOLVED]

First: Yes I've looked at other threads my problem is slightly different and, yes it is my fault for trying stuff beyond my level of skill but I know XDA members are helpful so I'm trying my luck.
Problem: I rooted the device (HTC Desire) and was running LeeDrOiD V2.2 until I came across the new senseHD ROMs for the HTC Desire and this is where the problems started. In short, I tried to upgrade to the SenseHD ROM and in the process wiped my SD and phone memory. the device can still boot into recovery but it gets the following message when trying to access the SD;
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
The card is 2GB and reads fine on my windows machine. I've tried formatting and placing ETX3 and ETX2 partitions, I've also tried just copying all the old data that was on the SD before I started playing but the device just hangs with a black screen reading "android". The trouble is that all the solutions I have come across for similar problems are solved from "inside" the ROM either through ROM manager or by changing settings. Obviously these are not options for me.
I would like to install the senseHD ROM (RCMixHD v0.11) (or anything at this point) so please could you help to fix this and have a working phone again.
please please please help out if you can, I'll be eternally grateful for any advice.
many thanks in advance!
SOLUTION
I managed to fix it in the end. I got a hold of another SD card from a friend, put a ROM on it and booted up the phone. Made sure the phone could boot up without the borrowed SD card. Then I took the original SD card and deleted all the partitions (DID NOT FORMAT) in windows using (MiniTool Partition Wizard) placed it back in the phone and booted up using the ROM that had just been installed.
In the phone settings go to Phone and SD storage, mount the SD card (don know why it manages to mount here) and then format it.
Now the SD card is fixed!
You could try repartitioning the sdcard from recovery.
good luck.
I had the same problem. I needed to update my version of Clockwork Recovery. I used the ROM Manager to install the latest version. Now its working for me.

I'm also in the same boat and the fastboot command to re-enable the SD card didn't work for me.

[Q] Topic: Preparing SD card; Checking for errors

Help:
This memory card worked perfectly with my other HTC Desire, until i swapped it due to technical problems with it.
I've tried putting in a 4gb Memory card into my HTC Desire and it doesnt seem to work. As i turn the phone on the message "SD card safe to remove" appears. I've tried going into settings and mounting the memory card and after all it says is "Preparing SD card; Checking for errors", and nothing really happens after that, other than freezing the settings menu.
I've tried formatting the memory card, which did nothing. Tried factory restore on the Desire which also did nothing.
I've tried the memory card on other mobile phones and work perfectly normal. I've tried another memory card on the Desire but yet, same message appears again. So therefore if im not wrong, this issue must be something to do with the Desire itself. There is one thing i've noticed, when i turn the phone on i get this message "S-off" with the joker from batman appearing, i'm assuming this must have something to do with it aswell or is that just some software which allows the Desire to work on all networks?
Can anybody help?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Does this have anything to do with it?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601340
Is your device rooted?? And what ROM are you using?
Well it has S-off on it, so i'm assuming that it must be rooted then. How do i find out what ROM it is.

[Q] Restarting many times dhd after a full restart

Hello,
If I do a full restart, then my dhd restarts itselfs after a couple of minutes for several times over and over again. If I remove the sdcard, there are no problems. If I remove the battery and put it back in together with the sdcard the problem most of the time is solved although I must sometimes repeat the procedure 6 or 7 times before its solved. Anyone has the same problem or a solution?
Thanxx (and sorry for my poor english !!!)
never read or heard something similar. are you using a custom or stock rom? have you tried a different SD card?
I have wiped and reformatted the memorycard and put all back on,but with no result... But I have not tried another memorycard,I will try it the next time... Can it be caused by a program on the memorycard?

did it happen also when you formated the SD BEFORE (!) putting all programs and stuff back on? i'm not a complete expert in android but for my knowledge i can tell, that of course there can be a problem with stuff which is on the SD. for me it sounds more likely that it is a hardware defect of the SD card or card interface. so i would try it with a fresh formated (on your pc) SD card.

Are you on a custom ROM or a stock ROM? If you're on a stock ROM perhaps you should try changing to a a custom ROM based off an official RUU to isolate problems?
Also maybe try a different SD card that is microSDHC no more than 32GB and Class 10 or lower.
Ok, the next time the problem occurs,I will try another sdcard. I'll keep your posted. I use the stock latest rom. The problem occurd after the last update with the sense. Also I went back to factory settings but after a while I had the same problem.

I figured out there's something wrong with the android_secure map on the sd card. If I remove this or empty it,there is no problem...so I reinstalled all of my apps back and moved it to the android._secure map like before...but after that I get the same problem after a cold restart. Can it caused by an app that is in the android_secure map ? If I get reboots after the cold restart, I take out the sd card and after a while when the phone is active,I mount it back again, that sometimes seems to work... Any ideas? Are there known apps that can cause problems with starting the dhd ?

Your English was fine.....and I have somewhat of the same problem. I gave my Desire HD to a daughter after buying another phone. The DHD worked perfectly for 18 months but when she put in her simm card it turns off completely and I have to manually turn it back on. However, if I have the dhd plugged into the charger it won't turn off. I have done a complete factory reset and wiped all the data off my SD card and all of my memory and it still turns off everytime, EXCEPT when the charger is on. Anyone?
I had the same problem. Tried formatting SD card and returning the data, then tried ANOTHER SD card with same data and it still rebooted. I found that problem is in android_secure folder and if I remove a couple of apps from there it boots OK. I thing that DHD has a limit on apps installed on SD card, because if I have too many apps on SD card it reboots like this. My understanding is that, after booting (this is only educated guess) it reads a list of apps installed on SD card, and it there are too many apps it just reboots. Really. Has nothing to do WHICH apps there are. Happened to me on 2 different DHDs. I have like 260 apps total, all the games on SD card. Dunno, I could be wrong, but when I removed like 3-4 apps from "secure" folder it started working. If I put them back, it reboots. Tried several times with different apps....
Thanx for the reaction...but the problem occured after the last sense update... And I have approximately about 220 apps installed. Any idea of limit number off apps ? Then I can try it...

Both Of The DHDs Roms is ARHD 7.0.4
I Have This Problem In all sense 3,5 roms!!
This Problem is not for kerel or tweek or ...
DO You Think The SD Card Couse This Problem??
For ex This Problem is Not For CPU , OverClocking or UV !!?
PLZ HELP
(Sry With My Poor EN)
.
I think the problem is caused by the latest sense update...because the problem started at that point. But if you mount the sd card after restarting and waited 10 minutes, then it works most of the times. I now use holo launcher and stopped the sense...but I didn't try the cold restart so I don't know if this is solution...?

I too had problems with constant loop-rebooting after upgrading and it appears a HUGE BUG was introduced in the official Gingerbread OS ...
Check this link out, see how many hundred of others have this reboot bug, and add your two-pence:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25563
There does however appear to be a fix for those with rooted phones, simply install LINK2SD, it runs a boot-up script and allows you to save/link all your apps on SD card in a 2nd seperate partition (ideally use format ext4 for this partition) and makes the phone believe these are all installed on the local data space ..
Ah,thats the problem..so its not related to the sense but to android itself...
But I don't understand if so many people have this problem, why it takes so long to get a decent solution without routing the device ?
Anyway,we know what it is...for the moment I don't power off my dhd.

SD-Card Error - Round 2

Hey guys,
a few month ago, i created 2 threads here.
My sd-card simply stopped working and I couldnt find the issue, even replacing the slot did not help.
Today, suddenly, my bootloader recognized the card with a PC10IMG, just tried this one out.
I could upgrade, got to the newest radio, and android 2.3 (Virtous Sense 2) could use the sdcard.
But at first, wlan did not work, so i restarted the phone.
Now everything seems fine, except that after a few seconds, the SD-Card is "unexpectedly removed". or "damaged". I cannot format the card using the phone, even in recovery menu its unmountable after a few seconds. Example: I chose "install zip from sdcard", could find the rom on it, but when it started installing, the installation immediately aborted and after this, the sdcard wont answer anymore in any way. This is reproducable by simply formating the card again using the computer.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thx in advance..

Its possible the connections for the sd card slot are damaged or that you got a damaged replacement, or that you might have damaged it on installation. I'm leaning towards the connection on the main board being damaged in some way. it's strange that it is intermittent.

I dont think its a problem with our memory cards. Either the card slot that Samsung made is of very poor quality or it is a problem with the latest ICS firmware. There A LOT of people facing this problem out there including my cousin who is the only other person i know with an S3. Not only does his memory card slot disconnect and reconnect, it completely killed it, it does work anymore. In some situations online, i have seen that people have ruined 2-3 memory cards by putting it in the S3.
I am facing the same problem and it is getting on my nerves. I live in a third world country so I might not receive a new phone.
Please find a solution XDA FORUM! :crying:
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying (the card brand is Team Group), this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the “Media” scanning process and significantly draining the battery.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card (made in Korea), and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:

Phone hangs and memory card problem

Hey,
since a few days we have an HTC Desire.
The mobile phone has now seemingly a small problem. It depends on yourself.
Now I have rooted it and have CM10.1 installed. It was a long time in recovery mode because it did not hang up. It lay for hours on the table, without which I had installed something more or something and it did not hang up. Then the other one odere app has been installed, the phone is fully furnished and already caught the hang of.
Now I have formatted the system, cache, and everything gewipt CM10.1 reinstalled.
These have, my 4GB memory card formatted by the A2 SD support, and now you will not really recognized. After a reboot, it is recognized for a few seconds, and then you disappear.
Does anyone have an idea what I could do now?
I guess that there are generally some memory problem, thereby hangs the phone in recovery mode and there were no problems in untouched condition.
Google translate, or very bad english skills.
Try to simplify your post. What exactly is the problem?
I barely understood that it's about your phone hanging on VJ's rom, after you installed an app (?!) , that you have a partitioned 4GB sd-card, and it's being recognized for only a short time after boot. Am I correct?
What did you use to partition your sd-card?
Hey,
yes, it is a Google translation.
Yes, if everything is correct.
The partitions I created with Acronis Disc Director. A 2GB Fat32 first, then a 2GB EXT3.
As soon as even an app is installed, the phone hangs up all the time. The same happens even without a memory card, or with a "normal" memory card.
Use 4ext recovery or gparted to recreate the partition. You should make a 1.5gb ext4 partition. Look in Andoo's signature for instructions on how to do this.

Hey,
thanks for the reply.
Now, I have still the problem that the Desire hangs again.
Someone to an idea?
SD card issue. Change your card and should work just fine.

Hey,
I use the Desire now completely without SD card. The phone still hangs up / crashes.
Seems to be the same kind of problems im experiancing at the moment with my phone.
