I'm using a custom rom, after unlocking bootloader and custom CWM.
Before I installed the custom rom I did a backup in CWM of the original rom (O2 branded, 1.26.xxxx).
Now there is an OTA from O2 and I want to go back to my original rom. So, I tried the following:
- boot into CWM
- whipe everything
- restored the backup
But...the phone doesn't want to boot. It stays in the white screen with HTC logo. What's going on here? Someone knows what I'm doing wrong?
Has it something to do with the franco-kernel I used?
Please help!!
Thanks in advance
First of all even if you do manage to get your backup restored the OTA update wont work because you have the Clockwork Recovery installed. In order to install OTA updates you must have the Stock recovery.
My advice would be to just ask your chef to update the custom Rom that you are using to the latest OTA (most have done so already). Failing that relock the bootloader, flash the O2 RUU and then update OTA.
Clockworkmod won't restore the boot image from backups , so you'll have to take it out the backup and flash it in fastboot.
Thank you both. It's done yet!

hello, I have some questions: 1) when I install a new rom on my arc if I get a bootloop what should I do? I install via sony companion or just install it again the kernel via flashtool? 2) when I install a new rom via recovery what should I delete? because I know that if I delete the date the recovery is temporary dinstallata .. then or not I should do a factory reset?
Hi mate, I'll try to answer your questions.
1. Best option is to use flashtool if you get boot loop after freshly flashing a new ROM. However, if you created a nandroid backup, restore that and you'll have all of your files and apps back before the bootloop.
2. Follow the ROM install instructions that I have in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30960528#post30960528.
(You have a locked bootloader, so ignore the kernel section)
Hope this helps :good:
thanks but if I restore with fastboot I'll have ics with root? if I install kernel 4.1.b.587
I got jb update today. HTC_044
First I recovered my stock rom(rooted)
than flashed stock recovery from ( my friend shared it)
Than I relocked boot loader. Than I hit update button (ota).
than I found that it is not installing. It's rebooting. It's not going to recovery. Than I checked recovery, I found that its not installed ( I mean its not going to recovery- just rebooting when I hit reboot to recovery option in hboot.) Than I tried to unlock boot loader again using same unlock.bin file. But it fails. ( to reflash recovery)
So my question is why its not installing?
How to re unlock boot loader?
how to flash stock recovery?
First of all, you need to re-unlock your bootloader no matter what, so double check everything, then redo the the whole process. There is no way it wont work, so do it calmly.
Unlocking the bootloader means you will lose all your apps and stuff; hope you had a backup.
BTW: All you had to do was this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26967480
Do you have the nandroid backup every guide always tell you to do?.. Then, re-unlock bootloader, flash clockworkmod recovery, restore your backup, *Use RootKeeper at this point*, flash stock recovery, update OTA and youre done;
..Then, reflash clockwork recovery, make a new backup, then at long last, you will be really done and ready for the future!!
I'm unable to restore the backed up stock rom, 2 months back before flashing a custom rom I made backup of my stock ROM (GB sense 3.0) via cwm and now for some reason I want to restore stock, but when I restore it, the device bootloops simply stucks at htc logo and then restarts and goes back into recovery, i even wiped every thing before restore, but ntg works and I I can't flash ruu , as my device is imported from some other country, so don't know from where the dealear got the phone, please help
is it because of the change in the version of cwm? because later I flashed the new touch cwm, this problem is only while I try to restore backed up stock, when I flash a custom ROM then there is no issue, custom ROM boot up properly.
Hey, i have the exact same problem. I was told that it was to do with recovery not being able to restore the kernel scince im s-on. Dont know what you are on, but i had the exact same symptoms. The only way out is to find the right RUU, from wich country did the phone come?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I have s-off, I even tried flashing the boot.IMG if back up but it fails to flash via PC with fast boot command and I guess eng-soff is needed to flash boot.IMG via PC,, and I guess my phone has come from Norway,,i hope there is any cwm flashable stock available....
No s-off is needed to flash using fastboot. You just neet to be in thw fastboot part of you bootloader. Maybe that will work.

Hey, i used one of your stock recoveries to try and get the ota update and heres what happened. I had twrp installed and then i flashed the your stock recovery, the phone booted up and then i proceeded to install the ota update. WHEN it was completed the phone was stuck on the HTC boot up scree. I can only get into the fastboot menu now. I cant enter any recovery or it will stick on the htc boot screen again. I think its soft bricked. Can you PLEASEEE HELP MEE PLEAAAASSE .
one more thing, the phone is s-on
Click to collapse
Now you have stock recovery installed, the way to go to recovery is bit different from how to enter recovery for TWRP. It gets stuck maybe because of the current ROM has some problems.
I suggest you do these:
1. Go to bootloader menu and flash TWRP - use the one in my signature (not yet test the latest official one)
2. put the 1.57.599.1 backup on externel sdcard (you should have one)
TWRP/BACKUPS/YourSerialNo/folder here
3. restore this backup (make sure Micro SDcard is selected as TWRP storage)
4. boot to bootloader and flash stock recovery
5. reboot and do the setup wizard then do the OTA
6. Once complete, you can reflash TWRP if you want to.
As the title stated, I've lost Custom Recovery upon flashing a new Custom ROM. I am using dual recovery, and I totally forgot to re-flash the recovery after flashing the newest Custom ROM I am using. Now I am unable to go to recovery, and planning to flash stock using flashtool and start from the scratch. I still have a nandroid backup with all my data but unable to restore it because of the lack of recovery. I would be happy If you can help me!
PS: Btw, I am currently on 5.0.2. Reinstalling dual recovery through the installer still won't work.
Update: Problem SOLVED. I've flashed this [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57576644&postcount=111] through fastboot and reboot to recovery using advanced power menu option.
