Noob (need help installing adb drivers) - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, sorry noob here to rooting.
I am trying to install the ADB Drivers for kindle fire and well, I keep getting the message "The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering" The drivers will not install.
I have tried installing the drivers through both Android SDK and KFU.
Anyone have any info on this matter and a possible solution?
Many thanks for any effort.

Have you done an md5 check when downloading the KFU & SDK?

As I said I am a noob. What is that exactly?

Google md5 checksum and how to generate one. Usually the md5 hash is at the download site for you to compare it to.
It will look something like this "7bb4f3779a91a2f0eafbf46603e60884 " (that's the one for KFU)
Compare it to the checksum, generated by your kfu.zip download. It's a long shot but its a good place to start.

7bb4f3779a91a2f0eafbf46603e60884 is what it came to

What version of KFU?

Used wrong file. The code for the correct file is as you posted above.

What version of Windows are you using?

Was using windows 8 consumer preview however I am downgrading to windows 7

That could be why the drivers won't install. The install_drivers.bat was made with Win7 and earlier versions in mind.

I was trying to install the ADB drivers for my new Galaxy Nexus on the RTM version of Windows 8 Pro (yes, it's legal, I got it from a Microsoft DreamSpark program at my college) and I got the same error message. I can't post links yet, but if you Google "installing an unsigned driver in windows 8 x64" the first link has the solution.

How to use SDK to root the phone?

Hi all,
I have just switched from the HD2 to the MT3G Slide and want to root the phone.
I knew how to do all the stuff on the HD2 from reading but cannot find any information here. The sticky placed on the top isn't much help because I know you need to use the Android SDK tool but I do not know how to set that up. & when I try to use the command line I cannot type in it. Please can someone give me some help on how to do this so I can get started on rooting my phone.
Thanks for reading!
you claim you read the sticky but yet if you had you would have seen the link on the first page i believe that tells you to get sdk from [link] and then on that page there is a link that says setting up SDK on your [OS] computer. then just follow the steps in there(which is really more like download file and double click setup) after that you can open up a terminal/console/cmd and type in cd \path to sdk\tools
if you are on mac or linux(unlikely since you can't read or search) you would type in
cd /path/to/sdk/tools notice how the slash between directories(folders) is the other way around
then follow the directions in the root thread(incredibly difficult i know but you should still try to do this part on your own)

Okay I have downloaded all of the Android SDK already. I have read it but my issue is when I try to type in the command it will not let me type. I also read that Anroid SDK is for xp & vista only and that windows 7 was not listed, so it this my issue? The command line you speak of is the one with the SDK tools and not the acutal windows CMD line?
I have followed everything to the line but still cannot seem to get this to work.
and to be clear I did read and there is nothing on there that states you need to have SDK to root the MT3GS. It says to download the slide_root
what operating system are you doing this on? that would be more helpful so i could tell you how to set this up correctly

windows 7. I have android SDK and I have downloaded the 2.1 Android pack.
if you are using windows 7 x64(very likely) then you cannot use that computer and you should try using ubuntu(same as using mac for 99% of the steps and there is a thread in q and a talking about this right now) or setting up a virtual machine and installing xp and using that to hack your phone. virtual machines are easy to setup and use if you can use virtualbox

download virtual box right now. will that come with xp installed on it or would I need to download that onto it?
thanks for all of your help.
you will need to get an xp install cd or iso to install xp on it. if you have any friends with xp install disks or you can find one online and use it as a trial(no key=no activation=30 day trial) then you can use it for a day and root with that.
disclaimer: i suggest totally legal versions of windows xp, any install disk you download or get illegally is your fault when the FBI/Bill Gates comes to the door

Instead of suggesting that he commits a felony why don't you tell him to use Ubuntu in the virtual machine? It'll take a little longer but it's less likely he'll be fined.
i didn't say commit a felony, and if you are going to use ubuntu then you don't need a virtual box(dumbass) you can use a live cd. i have been told by microsoft on MANY occasions that if you have a friend with XP install disks then you may use those, as well as the fact that installing it for one day in a virtual box is not illegal if you are not using a cracked key/re-used key, you can choose not to use a key and it is a temporary install for yourself to use either until you get a key, or the 30 days is up. much like you can buy vista/7 and install a different version if you like, but you will have to uninstall it and reinstall using the version i bought a key for once the trial has expired. read up and do your homework before you jump down someone's throat, it makes you look like an ass when i have to come back in here and teach you what a computer is
I set up and rooted two phones with windows 7.. I installed the sdk and pdanet drivers and thats it..
using 64-bit? last i knew there was no 64-bit adb driver so i didn't even try with my win7 x64 machine, i used my vista x32 box to root my phone.

Is there anyway that you could give me a little help on getting this to work. When ever I try to type in the command line when i pull up the SDK it doesn't do anything. and when I try to pull up abd it just pops up a CMD for a quick two seconds.

So the Command line is the CMD program through windows? I don't understand why someone wouldn't set me straight on that since I was saying the command line in SDK wasn't letting me type anything
Installing Drivers
Plug in your phone through USB and DO NOT MOUNT IT!!!!!
Your computer should see a new device and try to install Android 1.0 driver (If it doesnt, scroll down to the "Im not getting a notification of Android ADB when i plug in my USB" section)
Let it load
Once it cant find them select "Install drivers from my pc"
The drivers you need are in the Android SDK 1.5r2 folder (C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver)
Depending on your OS pick x86 or amd64
You ADB Android Device should now be installed! Good Job
When I do this part it doesn't find the ABD driver but it does not have anywhere to install drivers from my pc at all on my windows 7
edit: found where to go to add the usb drivers but when I select the folder all I get is "windows cannot find driver software on your pc"
edit 2: Found out what driver I needed, thanks for the guide source going to try to root this thing finally

[FIX] Adb fails to install

This was actually found by verszipo in this thread
I'm just sharing. Also, if I get this problem again I can refer to it
This is a fix for when you can't install adb.
verszipo said:
After a lot of digging around I've found out that the problem was that somehow the "WDF01005" (which is actually "Microsoft Kernel-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.5", on some sites it was listed as "KMDF Coinstaller 1.5") was not installed. Of course, searching the net for it didn't get me any closer to a solution.

Here's the reg file :
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Wdf01005]
"SystemComponent"=dword:00000001
(just save it into "fix_wdf01005.reg" and double click it to install it with Regedit, or you can add the key manually and add a DWORD value with the name "SystemComponent" and value of 1.)
So, if you ever get the error that Windows XP cannot install the "Android Platform Sooner Single ADB Interface" driver then you might want to see if you have the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Wdf01005" key as it is used by the driver installation and if it's missing then it fails and the driver is not installed.

P.S. i just tested, it worked for my Samsung phone too, it also failed to install the Android ADB driver and thus the ADB command said "error : device not found", now it worked correctly, it even found the drivers it needed through Windows Update so i didn't have to install anything manually.

go in devmgmt.msc and either force update the drivers from there for the appropriate devices (usually the ones with ? marks) or delete the devices, unplug/plug back and let the driver install process proceed, pointing the driver search at the folder where you unpacked the zip file above.

[Q] Please, Help with rooting this darned kindle fire!

So I've had this piece of plastic and been quite content without. Although, I need more customizations that fit my need of style. So I've been trying to root my kindle fire. I've looked at the "Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.9 Guide" and I've bumped into quite a few problems
The First Idk how to fix that error and I've tried stuff from re-naming files and it still doesn't work.

Edit: Well, since I'm new I can't post links but it says something about "Google Inc, Win Usb Install Failed(Unassign)

OK. First off, what is the problem you run into when renaming a file? Just click the file once, then after that file is selected, click once on the name and type whatever you want it to be called, including the file extension.
Second question in regards to your question from the edit: you aren't on win8 are you? I'd you are on win7 try running the installer as the administrator. Try it a couple times, and eventually it should work.

[Surface RT/2] Windows 10 ARM, Written Tutorial and Video* (External Site)

Hi everyone!
I know thousands of tutorials have been already made for the Surface RT/2, they are not often updated, are missing important steps or are not covering common errors occurring while doing this procedure, leaving the user wondering what to do next.
My tutorial will not be on this post, because of the limited layout options of an XDA post/thread.
Here is the tutorial: https://www.alexenferman.com/articles/SurfaceRT/W10-OA-SurfaceRT
This tutorial covers: The installation process, Pictures, Possible errors and solutions, Extras
I also made a video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzFqbBDKeXw
Comments or questions can be posted on this thread or in the comments section at the bottom section of the website.
Enjoy!
I followed this tutorial and I have windows 10 now. Still have question, why web browsing suck that much? It is incredibly slow.
In you tutorial you mention a build update using "install.ps1" I did not found that file in the zip.
Thank you again, great work you have there

Hi Alex,
I have read your instructions and most of the commends.
Very interesting and I am eager to give it a try.
One question though,
In the meantime my Surface RT is version 8.1 and even has the start items in a row on the left side, as in windows 10.
Should i go back to version 8.0 to start your Windows 10 upgrade?, or can I start from the present situation.
Your help is much appreciated.
Regards, Hans
Hi Alex,
your tutorial worked great for me. Thank You.
Just one more thing: After starting windows I do get an error like "Windows created a temporary paging file". So I thought maybe pagefile.sys is corrupt. I was no able to clean this. After sfc /scannow it tells me corrupt files are found but no correction was possible.
Maybe you have another idea.
Best Regards Tom
Install Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.1.1.appx
Hi Alex,
At the end of your amazing tutorial it says:
Install Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.1.1.appx and the other one.
Can you explain how to install these files?
Clicking on them has no effect.

Hans

Works wonders, thank you very much!
Only problem I have is this "paging error" whenever I log in, which I couldn't seem to be able to fix even though I tried optimizing the W10 setting a few different ways. Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you again!
EDIT: I set it manually to max size (min 16 MB, max 2047 MB) and the error is gone!
thanks! that worked for me
had to do it twice though with two reboots
anyways solved!

You have to create the pagefile yourself. I forgot to add it in my tutorial. Will add it soon. Meanwhile, search for "how to make pagefile Windows" or something like that.

Yes, I did.

I transferred them to my user direction and from there with the Powershell I could install them.

Hello,
Thanks for the tuto and the video
I went through the instructions but after applying the win 10 image, the boot will lead to automatic repair.
Trying the reset, show only 8.1 in the list of operating systems
Did I mess up in the process ? Should I start over again ?
Thanks
Hi Alex, didn't realize you had a thread for the tutorial here as well. i asked on yt/page about my issue:
I'm stuck at the end. After I installed the Chinese wim 'successfully', I reboot it and the Surface shows blue screen error 0xc000000f and if I press the windows logo button on the tablet I get the 0xc0000428 error. The fix on the website doesn't work, when I go into "Troubleshooting", then select "Reset this PC" then select 8.1rt and there it gives me a msj saying 'insert your windows installation or recovery media to continue" The usb img last used did not work, tried putting the install wim from 8.1 image (SurfaceRT_BMR_30.8.17.0) and get the same message about 'insert your windows. Thanks for the tutorial!
The file in the Google drive folder is named "windows RT surface 1 (RT). wim"
Is that the name that should be entered on dism apply image command? System doesn't recognise install.wim and I don't have that file on my USB
diskpart exit ..then problem
I have followed your directions and ran into a problem. After diskpart> exit (enter)
Yours shows x:\Sources
Mine shows
x:Windows\system32>
Where is my issue? I am on Windows 8.1. Do I need to go back to 8.0?
Appreciate your time
Thank you very much . you gave me a new hope for my Rt1
if you need any test device for any modification just ask.

Hello,
I am stuck on step 2. After having successfully installed the corrected Windows RT image, I restart my tablet (Surface RT) and I am stuck on the "Region and Language" choice screen. The tablet no longer reacts (no touch screen, no keyboard, etc.).
Do you have a solution ?? Thank you

I think you installed the wrong image. People tend to install the Surface RT image on the Surface 2. In this case, simply install the Surface 2 wim and touch and keyboard will work again.
