Can't Set Contact Ringtones - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I've search the forums high and low and can't seem to find any solution, answer or work around. I flashed the CNA rom ICS 4.0.4 "[ROM]^[CodeName:Android]^[4.0.4]^[4.29.12] Alpha 2 test" and also tried AOKP Build 35. Both roms have the same issue.
It seems I can't set any ringtones for my contacts. It allows me to choose them but when I get a call it plays what ever the default ringtone is set to instead of the contact selected one.
Is there a work around for this problem, or is just a a bug that I have to deal with?

You're in the wrong section bud it should be in Q & A, but to answer your question i believe it's a bug the same thing was happening to me so i went back to CM9

Oh my apologies. Thought it was a developer type of question lol. Is CM9 stable?

Moved thread to Q & A and cleaned up thread. Lets keep it clean and remember if you didnt develop anything then it doesnt belong in the development section. If its a question then it goes into the Q (Question) & A (Answer) section of the forum in which you reside. Its not that hard. Also there is no reason to flame either as a simple thread reported post or simply reporting the post will get actioned just as fast and I wont have to clean up a mess while moving. Thanks and have a great day

[Q] Loss of service sound

I honestly thought that I would find an answer for this but apparently I truly am "special" or weird in this one. I am brand new to the world of rooting and roms and currently have the latest version of Cleangb running on my epic. Fantastic rom and a giant thanks to any and all involved. One thing that has always driven me crazy about the epic is whenever you lose your signal or regain your signal there is an audible sound. I am sure getting rid of it is as easy as just deleting the audio file for it but I have done some searching through the root directory and cannot find the audio file for it. Does anyone know the location of this file? Also is it safe to delete or does one need to replace it with a blank audio file?

/system/media/audio/ui the file should be in here. i am on cm9 so i cant tell you the exact name of file. i dont like sounds other than ringtone, notification and alarm so i delete the entire ui folder and all unused ringtones etc.

I took a look at the CleanGB zip and searched the ui folder and found no sounds there...And an extensive Google search netted the same results. Seems the question has been asked a bunch of times across multiple forums and devices, but no has responded with a clear answer. Maybe one of our devs out here can find the solution. Although I am really starting to think it is possibly built into the ROM framework, instead of just a notification sound...
It has been attempted by our best devs. It is cooked into the TW ROM to where it has never been found.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I will try just moving the entire ui folder out and see if that does anything and report back. If that doesn't work then yeah hopefully one of the devs can clarify if it is built into the rom. Thanks for the posts everyone.
And then throw on an AOSP ROM like CM7 and problem solved.

I would like to try CM7 at some point but I am a little apprehensive about it at the moment. What led me to root and put a new rom on was how disgusted I was with the constant freezing of stock. CleanGB appeared to look the most stable of any out there. Since I use easytether a lot I liked that the mobile hotspot was also unlocked. Correct me if I am wrong but CM7 does have some tethering issues does it not? It just seemed like there were a few more issues associated with it than CleanGB at this point. I am open to convincing though!

Somehow I missed your reply. That clear it up quite a bit though. My only question though is CleanGB is based of of GB and not TW so does that mean he just cooked it into the GB rom as well?

CleanGB is based off TW stock. It's not AOSP Gingerbread, it just has the TW apps removed.

[Q][ICS] Looking for proper/working SMS Splitting

Not sure if this is the right place to post this - sorry in advance.
I'm looking for a flashable MMS.apk or .zip that would give me the stock ICS messaging app with SMS splitting that works.
The only ROM I know that has this working properly is Apex. Every other ROM I've tried either doesn't have the option to split, or does have the option, but it doesn't do anything.
I've searched the forums and could only find themed mms.apks to use. It looks like a few others are looking for a solution to this as well. Has someone posted on this before? If so, please send me in the right direction.
First off it works on codename and it works on markVis's super charged roms, and this should be in general not development, sometime you have to go to settings in messaging and turn SMS split on

Was on CNA for weeks, and a few different versions at that. It was brought up in the threads there, too. Currently using AOKP right now. Will check out markVis's, so thanks for that suggestion.
In my OP, I was saying that some ROMs have the option, but it doesn't "do anything," meaning that the app will still work as if it wasn't checked in the settings. I've re-wiped, re-flashed, and the whole shibang.
If a moderator can move this thread, that would be cool. I'm still (relatively) new here.
The ones in this thread work fine for me. They're based on the one originally posted in oics.

Is that the stock mms.apk from the rom or from a theme you installed? I haven't used codename but the problem reported by the user is something reported on aokp and being that a lot of roms will use features from others I would suspect other roms could easily have the issue. The only mms that has properly worked for me is the one originally released with oics.

if you were on two different roms and it didnt work on either, then it probably is safe to say its not the rom.
try the link to denverg's mms.apk's they have saved me in the past when i didnt want to mess with the 160split problem. but over the past couple of months, i have been on CNA and AOKP almost exclusively and have not had any problems with split. make sure you dont restore data the next time you flash a rom. flash it and test the split, then restore whatever data and see if that breaks it. that will tell you if its the rom or your data. my 2 cents fwiw
oICS is the only rom I've used where the split actually worked. Its the reason it took me forever and a half to leave that rom lol. I'm a big texter and its annoying as hell not having the split, specially when the option to turn it on is laughing in your face lmao. Btw I'm as well on AOKP b28 and would love to see this actually work.

I saw these earlier, but thought that they were all themed? They all say "Inverted" on the .zip files. Do I just download the ones that say "Stock", too? And GI or BI (wut?).
They are all inverted. Probably the only place to find the white background would be in the oics thread by aosp. Gi or bi just indicates the color of the icon. Green or blue.

That wasn't what he was implying, for me it's worked on every Rom I've used except for one, and I'm a flashaholic I flash a lot of roms , it could simply be an issue of not doing a full wipe or something

It says you only have one post. Did you make an account just to post this? That's AWESOME.
Will test this tonight when I get in from work.

Where did these notification tones come from?

When I first got my GS3, I rooted it right away with the XquiziT UVALH2 ROM. Then I went to AOKP. On both of these ROMs, I had a bunch of system notification tones that were named after stars or constellations, I think. The only names I remember for sure are Castor and Pollux. Then I went to XquiziT xD, which meant Odin back to stock UVALH2 and applying the OTA patch before flashing the ROM itself. After that process, I seem to have lost the tones.
Does anyone know where they came from? I have no idea if they came with the phone out of the box, or with one of my previous ROMs.
Sorry if this is a weird or dumb question, but those tones grew on me and now it's driving me nuts that I can't find them.

To answer you question, download any CM10 or AOKP rom and open the zip and find the Notification and Ringtone directories and copy out the .ogg you want. I'm sure they are easy to find other ways.

Call recording on S3

Is there any way to get call recording to work on the phone? Ive tried 5 different apps and none work.
A lot of the ICS roms have the ability enabled.
The one I used was Wanamlite. If you're on jelly bean, I don't think they've figured out a way to enable this.

The app called sanity had functional call recording on my telus model until the jelly been update (rooted stock rom). It was not the speakerphone trick either, it was good quality for both sides of the call.
So that's an answer for anyone who hasn't updated and a bump otherwise.

I spoke too soon. Only works when on speaker. Anyone able to get call recording to work on S3?
Latest version of callrecorde work on S3. Check the thread to see what setting you need. You need Alsa and also you need to set the phone model as the last one in the list, qualcom experimental. I have it on JB and it is working fine, just a little crackle sound in the background but it does not change much, you can hear the conversation very well.

CM, AOSP, AOKP, 4.1.2 Bluetooth A2DP Solved?

CM, AOSP, AOKP, 4.1.2 Bluetooth A2DP Solved?
This worked for me, so I figured I'd share.
Unpair, turn off bluetooth, reboot. Using root explorer, go to /system/etc/bluetooth.
With text edit, open "input.conf" file. Change "idle timeout" to "0" (no timeout). Fix permissions, reboot, then pair devices again.
It might take about a minute for media to connect, but media stays connected with no drops.
Don't know why, but my uneducated guess is for some reason maybe it's reading "in seconds" instead of "in minutes". Anyway,p worked for me, try it let me know and share this post.

I went temporarily back to Tasks last 4.1 build and I see the file, but everything is commented out. And it says "Defaults to 0 for no timeout". So technically mine is set to 0, and I still have no bass. Just no luck for us bluetooth people.

Supposedly, if you set
lpa.decode = false
in /system/build.prop
the bass issue is fixed. Its in one of these Q&A threads. Havent tried it cause that is for 4.1.2 only.

From what you are saying it sounds like the problem might only be solved with the next android iteration. Maybe 4.2.2. All I know is that after I installed 4.2 on my Nexus 7 and paired it to my car, the bluetooth audio cuts out a lot. So I am guessing this is a problem across 4.2 in general.
I found this page about the Nexus 7. Many users complaining about Bluetooth stutter.

FYI. I'm reposting this from the SlimBean 4.2.1 Rom forum. I switched over to SlimBean 4.2.1 from Tasks ROM as a test of the Bluetooth issue. Here is a report. Mind you, its very cursory at this point. I'll have way more reliable data/info after tomorrow.
Depending on the app, my Bluetooth Audio streaming seems to be working. I just tested with Subsonic Streamer, both streaming online and local music sitting on my phone. Neither of those worked, i.e. erratic pacing, static clips, etc. I also used Audible to play an audiobook and it worked fine for about 5 minutes. I even turned the screen off to trigger the effect. Nothing. Maybe its not the best quality ever, yet. But its something. *shrug*
