[Q] Launcher Replacement - HTC One X

Hi fellow HTC One X threaders.
I was wondering whether it is possible to replace the stock launcher(want to do some nice things) with a other launcher and still be able to use the widgets of HTC(Love the weather widget btw)?
FYI my phone is rooted, not that it will possibly make a difference.

As far as I know HTC widgets only work with the stock sense launcher
Sent from my HTC One X

Any Sense related widgets can not be used with any other third party launchers.
Same for example TouchWiz.
You have 2 options, stick with Sense launcher or third party launcher bundled with various widgets to try and replicate Sense.

thanks for the replies. I decided to move to Nova Launcher Prime. Very decent launcher with enough customizations.

Take a look at Apex Launcher as well. It's personal choice of course but I tried both and ended up preferring Apex overall.

Using Apex Pro as well. Perfect for me.

Best launcher for desire

hi every body. i was wondering which launcher is the best for our Desire.
i have tried ADW but didn't find very smooth so i'm sticking with Launcher Pro.
anyone else knows a launcher with themes and very smooth scrolling. i want to use it with OpenDesire.
regards
Marios
Sense ui works well for me when I got panda home or awd or anything like that when i pressed home there was a menu.. it said.. sense ui, panda home, laincher and the launcher was like basic android on nexus.. very smooth, but no sense widgets :/ back with the sense ui

hi. because i'm using an aosp rom i would like something for that rom which will be very very smooth. BTW i don't like much sense roms.
I like launcher pro beside the standard on Sense ROMs.
Go launcher is superb and free

For me to i'm very satisfied with GO
i would say ADW or launcher pro
Also GO Launcher EX is nice
on my Desire, Reflex Rom S, ADW launcher isn't supersmooth in Appdrawer, Launcher pro not on homescreen.
Go launcher is best for this job^^
Launcher
I like launcher 7, smooth and simple
tried launcher 7.. it's neat but don't really like moasic ui and my music player did not work
Launcherpro plus by far...with the latest update it became perfectly smooth, even when filled of widgets, unlike any other launcher that stutters and lags like hell in similar situations. Plus you get nice widgets, which are now skinnable to your likings.
For me I just stick to sense UI flash a 3.0 sense Rom, its awesome.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
LooL Launcher 7 is really well done, but the config options are really limited.. I think it's perfect if you want to feel how it's like having a WM phone. Otherwise... no widgets, no multiple screens --> Sense UI FTW
Go launcher EX
Is the best.
VERY smooth, lots of themes, nice looking.
all of us have different needs,
why dont u install all the launchers you are considering and test all of them and finally choose your launcher.
For me the best is Launcher Pro, simple, customizable and fast
ADWLauncher Ex. Yeh you have to pay but it's well worth it.
The one on the miui. Rom is the best

There's no best launcher, imho. It depends on your personal preferences.

What launcher should I pick?

Hi I've now tried 4 different launchers and I can't make up my mind.
What launcher is generally the best, keeping up the speeds etc?
I just can't make up my mind. Any good suggestions?
I use LauncherPro on mine and really like it
Don't know about what is the "best launcher", whatever you like/feel most comfortable with.
I use Launcher Pro myself with Desktop Visualizer to theme my phone.
Have been a big LauncherPro fan but have recently been using ADW EX ..... its very quick and very pretty (great animations etc)
Try them all and see what you like

What 4 launchers did you try? So far i only used Launcher Pro & i'm happy with it.
Top 3 for me. ADW EX, GO, LauncherProPlus.
as a launcher i find the newest adw very smooth.but as i love the launcherpro plus's widgets,i choose it
I'm using launcherpro free version and it has everything I need as home app.

I just love the ADW EX version with all it's animations and smoothness. The developers that combines these things with LP+ widgets gets my vote. Now I just switch between them depending on mood.
Zeam was an excellent launcher on my low-end Pulse, it ought to make the Defy grow wings, but it's not that customizable.

I use zeam. Have used a few and this one does what i want it to do.
Just try a few different ones.
After reading the fora, I went with what seemed like the majority consensus, and on the third day of owing my Defy (my first Android phone), I bought LauncherProPlus. That was couple of months ago, and LauncherPro is all that everybody says. Now, I just installed the Go Launcher, and I have to say that it's superior. The two are so similar in concept that it might have been the same team that designed both, but the Go Launcher, in addition to doing everything that LauncherPro does, has features that make it much more useful and nicer to use. It has, for example, an intuitive interface for organizing apps into folders, in addition to hiding the unnecessary ones. Then it has a couple of settable gestures, the swipe up, and swipe down with which one can hide the notification bar, for example. It's 5x5 icons on the home screen implementation is flawless, unlike in LauncherPro, and the widget resizing method is also easier. Just nice touches all around, and none of them gimicky.
i use adw launcher ex their are so manny different options if you like playing with them you can get it just how you like. its also the speediest i think
I would try HE launcher its free and simple. It has the best of all worlds.

I tried Launcher Pro, LG Home, ADW and of course the standard Motoblur...
I'm kinda after something quick and smooth, doesn't have to be 15 homescreens etc. Um, I posted the original thread to see what tips you guys got.
//Dave
I use zeam launcher. it's a minimal launcher with low memory's consumption, but there is no cutomization.
Wow, thanx for all tips!
Will now have to try the Go launcher, have to get ADW EX another go as well as HE Launcher.
//Dave
Totally agree. Go Launcher is the one for me. Tried pretty much everything else and chose this one. LauncherPro is my second option. But I think Go Launcher is everything LaucnherPro is, and more. =)
help
hey,im using launcher pro on moto defy phone.everything is working fine, but i just wanted to know how do i go back to my original homescreen without uninstalling the launcher?

You can't. That's one thing I found out on the Defy. If you install any other launcher the original Blur launcher cannot be selected. I've tried Home Switcher, having two launchers and trying to clear defaults, and any other thing you can think of. The only way to get Blur back is to uninstall all other launchers.
Not true....install an app called homesmack from the market....it is free and will allow u to switch very easily

[Q] Which Home Screen?

So after looking through the home screens I see there are multiple choices each with its own positives and negatives, I was wondering what the XDA users prefer?
As far as I can see there is:
*HTC Sense
*ADW Launcher
*GO Launcher
*Launcher Pro
*HeLauncher
*Zeam
*A few different gingerbread launchers
Those are the more heard of ones. So back to the original question, what is the "best" launcher?
definition of "best" is open to interpretation
Sense or Zeam
Sense for strong devices
Zeam for the weaker ones

My vote goes to Launcher pro. The customizability of the launcher is very nice.
Sense on the other hand has been tweaked to the end. The widgets are great. Only thing is, I don't like the big launcher taking up so much space, with only 3 functions. Where the customize button is the least usefull of the three lol. Furthermore, sense can be quite slow sometimes.
You might try CircleLauncher Light too (or the paid version).
It's a Widget but it's not bad.
Example here.
Launcher Pro Plus. Uses less power than Sense UI.

Can you use launcher pro plus on Cyanogen Mod or is there a way to stop sense starting up on leeroids rom?
You can use Launcher Pro on any ROM and on Sense Roms you can't remoove sense. If you don't want sense then Cyanogen or MIUI is the way for you.
Personally, I like HTC widgets, so I'm going with Sense.

Oh ok never really looked at MIUI
I do like leeroids though..
If your happy with how sense looks it works fine.
If you like to completly control look of phone launcherpro or adw ex are awsome.
I'm firmly settled now on Launcherpro Plus using Non-Sense version of Revolution rom to get rid of all the htc sense stuff and love it.
Zeam
My vote goes for Zeam...
I used Launcher Pro (which I bought) for a long time, but I found it very heavy after trying Zeam launcher;
I find Zeam Launcher is quite the same as Launcher Pro, but lighter...
(My Desire HD is running under CyanogenMod 6.1.3 right now)

I've tried ADW and LP when I had a Hero but always come back to Sense because I like the HTC Widgets, specifically the flip clock and all the settings widgets.
If it wasn't for that, I'd probably go with LP as it seems the most customizable.
Don't forget you can still modify the look of Sense if you don't mind editing the framework-res.apk or using some of the custom mods and themes that people on XDA have created.
I'm using ADW EX, loving the customisation it offers, also a fan of sense cause of the widgets, but after paying for a couple good ones like Beautiful Weather for clock and weather like sense do it, and Widget Locker for full customizabel lock screen, im never going back to sense again as i now have all the same features sense provided that i wanted to keep
Launcher Pro Plus because it is lightweight

Alternative launcher

Hi all,
For those OneX owner, you are using HTC Sense or other launcher?
I tried to install Go Launcher, but there is a ... menu at the bottom, so it is out.
Then I try Apex launcher, it is nice but not very user friendly yet, I try to configure it today and see if it can replace Sense.
Both alternative launchers consume lesser memory at startup (6xx vs 7xx in Sense), HTH.
Have you tried nova?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
One of the things that concern me with third party launchers is that it may bring additional ram resources into play since sense cannot be disabled?
It would be worse if we have sense eating all that memory in the background AND another launcher eating its needed ram as well?
Or am i wrong in thinking this?

I think so. When I installed Nova Launcher and used that as my launcher, it would still show that the phone was using 800mb or so of ram, which is exactly what Sense uses.
I use ssLauncher (paid version) and really love it.
Don't know much about memory consumption, sadly!
I'm using Apex launcher. Gives me much more options do modify than the Sense launcher. And it doesn't have the 3-dot black bar.
Using it for a few days now, and it looks good.

The problem is that you can't use the HTC widgets and I really want that combined email inbox!
I'm using Apex. After being on stock ICS on my old Nexus S I didn't like Sense at all and can't understand why, given our screens are getting bigger and bigger, why manufacturers keep on making skins that stick to the 4x4 homescreen grid and waste so much space! Apex, plus APW for widgets is doing me proud
I was using ADW EX on my old desire, when I got the One X i put on Go Launcher and like it a lot (especially the excellent widgets and apps it comes with as optional elements)
I'm contacting the dev to ask to remove the ..., aside from that, it's an excellent launcher with loads of settings, themes and extras
I'm in the same boat as you- those "..." are killing me.

Try Apex, no ...
I tried Apex, but without root (for now) to let me add widgets to the home screen it's not much use to me at the moment.

What's your favorite launcher and why?

Just trying to start a discussion on what launcher people are using and why they like them as apposed to others. This thread would be useful for many who are trying to decide what launcher to use or switch to. I know that people can and should try them out for themselves however there are MANY launchers out there and it would be nice for folks to read this thread and get an idea where to start. So who's first?

I like Nova Prime with the Missed It! add on. It adds notification counts to the icons you specify. Like messages and mail for me. It's nice to see a little bubble on the icon.
Nova Launcher for me too, I have downloaded a few ut always go back to Nova, simply for the gestures and the stability of it. Action Launcher is good but lacks a lot of customisation.
I like Go. Folders in app draw, transparent Nav and status bar support.
I've used Apex launcher for a while because it is very clean and fast with a lot of customization options.
Nova is my favorite... Fast and Stable.
I'm in the minority with this but I like stock.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Tried Nova, ADW, Go, Apex, Holo, and of course Stock
For now, Nova is the best IMO. Stock comes in the 2nd.
I don't believe in a favorite launcher. I believe they all of them are pretty much equal with each of them to their own uniqueness. It's more of favoritism.
I personally used Apex Launcher and switched to Nova because Nova Launcher Prime was on sale for <$1 so I switched. It also made it very easy to do because it imported my widgets and apps on home screens within one click.
Nova Launcher & Apex are both great choices. Can't go wrong with either or............ or you can use Trebuchet (CM's Launcher). Keep in mind if you use Nova Launcher, update to the latest beta!!! it helps, uses 4.2 launcher code
nova prime is my favorite. there's so much customizability, which makes it perfect for themeing. very fast and stable too. i want to get familiar with either ADW or Apex so I can toggle between themes very fast. Launcher8 has some potential too, but as of now its just too laggy.
Used ADW for a while... then switched to Nova. Nova restoring the widgets is a great feature when playing with multiple Rome.
Skickat från min Nexus 4
Ok, bit different but...
TSF Shell ..it's like butter even on my old Snapdragon 3 based phone
Next launcher.. new but good, desktop/home screens not quite as smooth as TSF
SPB 3d shell ..love it
someone make a poll! i bet over 50% of us, use nova launcher(prime)
is there beta version of Prime nova launcher optimized for JB4.21? or thats only for the NON prime version

nova settings - check for update - stack icon at the top right use beta
I use Apex Launcher
It is very near to stock, but still very customizable.
I also like the groups in the drawer, the reseizing of widgets to every size (which is sometimes ridicolous, but in some cases very useful) and the ability to hide the dock (that i dont need anymore because of GMD Gesture Control)
I've also tried some other launchers like Nova and Action Launcher (Really cool, too, but not as customizable as Apex) but at least I stayed at Apex.
Nova, but Apex very close
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Used to be almost 100% Nova, but now I have been using Action Launcher.
It is different from the other launchers and I quite like the way the App Drawer is implemented.
And the "Covers" setting is brilliant, for me this makes it worthwhile!!
