So, first thing I did when I got my HOX was unlock, flash updated boot.img, recovery and ROM.
Now, I'm wondering if I should have done the OTA to get the latest HBOOT (I have 0.43, the 1.29 update has 0.94) and Radio (I have 1.1204.103.14, the 1.29 release has 1.26.401.2).
Question is, can I get and flash these files standalone or do I need to return to stock (stock recovery, relock, RUU, etc...)
Or, should I even worry about updating HBOOT and Radio at this point?
Thanks!

Apparently there is no improvement for many people whith the updated hboot and radio. So it probably wouldn't be worth the hastle, I haven't done it, after all..
If it ain't broke don't fix it

I have unlocked my OneX, root it using PaulBrien's method, and then stripped off all the sense stuff. I didn't install any custom rom all these while.
Then I decide to revert back to stock. I do the following
1. flash back stock recovery
2. lock back the one-x using fastboot oem lock
3. run the ruu executable.
It worked as I managed to complete the ruu flashing process, and proceed with the system upgrade OTA to 1.28
then, I had problem with the rooted 1.28 (again stock 1.28 rooted using Paul's version) so I did a CWM recovery back to my rooted 1.26 ROM.
Now, I decide to flash stock rom back to my OneX, I repeated the steps above, and instead I got this error from the RUU app.
Any reason what has happen? I even tried flash the 1.26 signed boot.img prior to step 3, but it still yield the same problem.
Thanks...
Since you updated to 1.28 you need the 1.28 RUU. When you updated it changed you hboot

I didn't know it change the hboot.
can I flash 1.26 hboot over?
strangely, I didn't have the problem the first time round, maybe something went wrong in between.

i dont think so until we get S-OFF
this problem happen for me
you are only download other ruu
only other ruu download and enjoy
You need the 1.28 RUU as you've done the OTA 1.28 update.
If your version is 1.28.707.10, here is the RUU : http://bit.ly/IjzQwM
Else, please let us know your software version no. and someone will point you to the right RUU.
Hi.
I'm almost certain someone else must have experienced the same problems I've had but I can't find anything already posted so if I have duplicated someone's thread I apologise.
I rooted my phone using the usual process I found on here.
Downloaded my OTA as supplied by my carrier, 3UK and it failed in CWM recovery, no matter which toggle or option was selected.
I found a thread that instructed me to restore the stock recovery and relock the Bootloader. Tried the OTA again. Still no joy.
I then flashed the original RUU which worked and then the OTA worked perfectly.
For some reason or other, it must have been important but I can't remember what, I had to restore my nandroid backup taken before I started to apply the 1.28OTA (so stock 1.26 ROM, rooted, CWM), which had reverted me back to 1.26. However, trying to then reflash the original stock RUU failed. Strange, as the exact same RUU worked flawlessly less than an hour earlier.
The only difference I noticed was the HBOOT remained at the 0.93 that it had changed to following the OTA update, although the radio version had reverted to the original 1.12.
Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and flash the excellent ARHD ROM, which is working fantastically.
How the hell do I update the radio to the latest version? I had hoped that the ARHD ROM would contain the new radio within the flash, but it looks as if no ROM flashes the radio on this phone.
Thanks.

Anyone?
I'm not 100% sure but it's not yet possibile flashing radios&rils, for some limitation due to the actual rooting process.

Until we have S-Off there is no way to flash a new radio.
Ok, I accept that, but what I don't understand is that I'm pretty sure on my old Desire I could flash different radios without being S-OFF.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
An older bootloader system was in use with the Desire, HTC have changed it a lot since then
I couldn't flash radios or hboots on desire until s-off. The ruu should still work though. Maybe wrong or older version.
Well I tried custom firmware after successfully unlocking my HTC One X. It says Unlocked but S-ON so not sure whats going on there? But since S-On I cannot change the CID as get the error (status read failed (too many links)) MY CID is H3G_001 and since I rooted my phone refuses to let me upgrade to OTA Jellybean which is frustrating forcing custom firmware.
Without updating CID I got stuck in a bootloop at least I guess it was as it was just stuck on the quitely brilliant screen for 20 minutes before I shut it off and tried another firmware which did the same. I am now in the process of a Nandroid recovery so I can at least use the phone. Three have a ton of bloatware which sucks. But I gotta stick with it as cannot figure out why it wont let me flash.. All help is appreciated. This phone is alot harder to flash than my HTC Desire which was a breeze.

you cannot s-off the one x, all you have done is unlock the bootloader which will allow you to flash clockwork recovery and flash su etc.
Unlocked s-on is normal.
Unlocking has nothing to do with s-off
At present there is no way to change your cid.
2x errors have occurred here
Ota updates fail after rooting if you leave the custom recovery on there.
You needed to unlock. Flash or boot custom recovery.
Flash supersu binaries
Flash stock recovery
Then boot ROM.
That way it would have been rooted and still allow ota updates.
You have made things worse by flashing the firmware.zip
By flashing the firmware you have updated your hboot. Probably to 1.36
Which will no longer work for the ICS ROM that is on your phone.
You need to find a nandroid backup for jellybean for your cid.
Just switching to PC to find you some links
ok looked more into it
you should still be able to boot after restoring your nandroid.
dont forget to pull the boot.img from your backup and reflash it as flashing the firmware will have put the JB boot.img on
you will want to restore the stock recovery which you can find in the firmware.zip once you have restored your backup
reboot into your rom and do the OTA that way

I restored from my nandroid and its working fine, all back to 4.0.4 with the phone unlocked I used CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip when i rooted my phone (or at least im sure I did as I did root over 6 months ago now).
So how would I go about updating to a custom firmware then?? Instead of the OTA as would prefer to get rid of the bloatware as half the apps aren't even English..
If you want a custom ROM
Try looking at something like latest android revolution HD
Very similar to stock but no bloat.

Okay thanks for that but how do I get it to work with my CID is what I would like to know do I have to first get OTA jellybean working then a custom firmware to update the CID? It seems a little confusing.. I listed my CID in first post but like I also said all custom firmwares I tried Viper X 3.3.4 and skydragon both left me with a phone stuck on boot screen for 20 minutes until i gave up and just turned off.
Your cid is irrelevant for anything except going to stock.
Custom ROMs arnt dependent on cid.
But they are dependent on hboot versions.
Cm10 ROMs will not work on any hboot>1.12
Any sense jellybean ROMs or ROMs with 3.1 kernels need a hboot version of at least 1.23
Couldn't saw viperx ROM but dragon is based on 3.17 so your hboot has to be minimum of 1.23
After installing the custom ROM you did flash the boot.IMG in fastboot didn't you?

where i get the boot.img? I think i may have missed that part *duh* OKAY nm found that hboot is 1.12 need to update... Updating the Hboot means I have to go back to stock right? Then update OTA to get Hboot update then I can get JB..

You need a stock boot.img, stock recovery and a stock ICS Rom. Then you will get OTA to JB, upgrading that way your hboot. Then you can flash any custom JB Rom.
P.s. The correct boot.img is in the rom's zip folder. Every time you change the rom you should flash the proper boot.img.

Yeah problem is I need RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_H3G_UK_2.17.771.3 to go back to stock and it doesn't exist.. Anyway around the RUU exe ?
EDIT NM found I can use the nandroid method.. Giving it a shot now.
Go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
And download your matching nandroid ! Restore it including flashing the boot.img from the nandroid. After that you flash this recovery back
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
And you are on stock again. And also able to update to JB
That did NOT work I got back to stock but without the RUU exe file it seems it will not install I loveked my phone aswell and when i try to install the OTA update i just get kicked to bootloader.
Edit didnt see above post sorry
So did it work.....I know my method works !
Sorry yeah it worked Was up till stupidly late trying to do it as I was following another method as I never saw yours (a really old one) Where I locked my phone so had to unlock etc.. Plus download that update OTA each time took 1 hour. I'm now on stock with Hboot 1.39 thankyou so much really appreciate! So now I just reflash recovery yeah? And backup nandroid then go for my custom rom?
Yes exactly !
I now have Android Revolution working perfectly and since I paid for Nova Prime I decided to go for lite after all and removed Sense thank so much for that method so much easier than the guides on here which make it sound so difficult I really was pulling my hair out!
Nice ! Glad it worked

hi all , i have a problem with my one x.
i'm trying to update to JB but every time when i change the hboot from 1.12 to greater ones - 1.28 to 1.39 the onex is stuck to boot loop.
i can revert to 1.12 due tot the fact that i have S-OFF and i can also install non sense JB - as CM10 but, i would like to install the official JBRUU or at least some other custom rooms that are with the official version.
any ideas, cause i'm out of it?

Lucky you having S-OFF. S-ON is a pain.
Have you only updated HBOOT? I think you might also need a ROM and kernel that are compatible with the newer firmware

with 1.12 i was able to successfully install CM 10, nightly builds, but as soon as i have update my Hboot no other JB sense ROM has worked.
The only way to make my phone work again was to run the Europe RUU ICS 1.20.401.1 which revert my HBOot to 1.12.
Any suggestion?
I may be wrong here, as I'm new to HTC. But doesn't being s-off, as in a super-CID mean you can use any RUU? i.e. running a jb RUU would contain the correct Hboot.
My M8 is flashed with Viper 1.6. I however wish to use latest firmware from the official OTA update, to get the newest radio etc. I am however unable to flash this.
I flashed the stock recovery, however the update does not succeed via fastboot. Error 99 something.
Are you able to guide me how to do this update. Is it at all possible, when not running a stock rom?
I would like to avoid going back to stock, to be able to do this, unless necessary, but I do not know if this is possible.
My former phone was a Samsung Note, where I was able to flash about everything with the Odin Flash utility. Is it simply because I am S-ON This causes problems?
In the Viper thread this has been asked, but no clear answers are given, as it is not viper specific.

First of all make it clear what you want to do.If you want to do OTA of viper from 1.6 to 1.7 you must have a custom recovery like twrp then go to settings->about->software updates. If you want to get official HTC's OTA then you have to be on Stock.you sshould follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235

You need to be S-OFF to flash firmware. You would need to go back to stock and apply the OTA, however, you can flash the radio while S-ON.
Thanks for your replies.
I of cause know I am unable to directly install the OTA.
I am interested in the radio and other relevant parts of the OTA.
Is the best solution to revert to a locked bootloader/Stock recovery, and simply update?
The radio itself I assume I can flash with fastboot. (fastboot flash radio radio.img)
The firmware however also contains the following files
Boot.img
Hboot
Radio
RCData
Recovery.
I am unaware what RC data is? Recovery is not relevant. Hboot, I assume an older version is better, in case a weakness is found in the old version, leaving boot and radio. Would you update boot? Do I gain anything at all? If yes, I assume I can use this command? (fastboot flash boot boot.img). Or am I restricted flashing the boot, as long as I am S-on?
