Do not use a rubber to clean the polycarbonate housing - Nokia Lumia 900

My daughter drew something on my Lumia 900, so I designed to use a rubber to clean it, the result is (see the pics)
It rubbed the matte surface off and cannot be restored

"A Rubber" ? as in a scrubbing pad?
or
literally a condom?

A rubber? Really?

I am guessing he means an eraser. Shouldn't damage the finish, but it may have actually pushed the ink further into the surface.

yea, I mean eraser.
I think the finish is damaged, because it's now "shiny".

For the passport deprived a "rubber" in the UK is what is referred to as an eraser in the colonies.

LOL. Sorry about the phone but thanks for the laugh. I love watching my fellow Americans stare with bewilderment when they encounter foreigners. By the way PM me if you start posting about cigarettes. Now that thread is one I want to see.

LMAO! Trip down my childhood! We say rubber in South America too. But boy, has it been a while since I last heard it! Thanks for the tip!

Lumia's body auto heals..
http://www.dailytech.com/Good+Lumia+900s+Plastic+SelfHeals+Bad+More+Connectivity+Woes+Pop+up/article24619.htm
If this is true, it will actually auto heal the skin.
So do not worry...

They don't call a fanny pack a fanny pack over there, either... Oo errr!

The back is polycarbonate and the same color throughout so if you scratch it, then it won't suddenly be some other color.
The guy in the dailytech article said the "Scratches filled in" I don't think that is technically what happened. I think whatever residue/remnant from the ground finally got cleaned out of the scratches and what was left was a scratched, blue surface with nothing stuck in the scratch to cause contrast and draw your eye to it.

It's much sturdier than iPhones and I'm saying this from personal experience.
Samsung phones have pretty robust hardwares in general (and many people claim such builds make phones look "cheap"). You have to be seriously abusing it to damage it.
If you're a "dropper" get an otter box Max type of case.

there is nothing as less fragile, more robust.... in my opinion.
It's just a matter of luck!!!
Quick recall: i once had 2 nexus s. one slipped out of my hands (in the supermarket) and landed on the concrete floor without any damage and the other one, fell from the bed on the wooden floor and had a crack.
how can it be more sturdy than iphone if iphone is steel?
What? The iPhone isn't steel.... the front and back are BOTH glass.

Plastic has lightness and elastic deformation going for it. It will bend before it breaks, and depending on the severity, will return to it's original, undamaged state.

Can you buy just the back plate and side case?
quickly buy insurance over the phone.
I already have it but this is a cosmetic defect that it won't cover. The phone still works just fine. I just need a new backplate and side part. Where can I buy those?
My phone almost slipped out my hands already 3 times. I'm definitely looking for a case.

I have that case on mine, I'm not a fan. It doesn't cover the bottom or top and it's pretty hard to get to the volume and power buttons since they are blocked from the top edge. I'd recommend something else. I just bought a metal "bumper" case that goes around the whole rim and has rubber button extensions that stick out of the frame from ebay. (there are versions with no rubber thingies which would pose the same problem - hard to get to the buttons, so I'd avoid those too)
(I couldn't quote the link since I'm not at 10 posts yet)

I have this case and it's amazing... it's incredibly slim so it doesn't add much weight and bulk. The texturized back adds a nice grip and the front of the case comes up just enough to raise the glass off of surfaces when the phone is face down.
I saw parts on ebay for it already. The back cover and maybe the side?

Ultimate Addons cases are reviewed on Amazon UK. I can't find reviews on Xda forums as yet but don't think they're 100% waterproof. From what I can tell, the seal on the case is waterproof but the lugs on the usb and headphone port might not be.

Well I just got my seidio obex case. I have opened it up probably about ten times and yesterday I threw it into a lake at about 5 feet deep yesterday for about 5 minutes. No problems whatsoever. No water in case. Dropped phone onto concrete from about 6 feet not even a scratch on case.. Any other questions let me know.

I believe the case uses a 1 way type of mesh that allows sound out but no fluids in. The otterbox armor series has a similar mesh that allows no water in but sound out. I'd just wait for that case

That's useful information, thanks for that, never crossed my mind that they could do stuff like that. Thanks = )
I have the obex , I absolutely hate worst case I ever owened people can hear you when your usimg the phone , the people on the other line sound muffled , only way to use the phone call option is turning speaker phone on.. but I don't know about you all but don't want everyone to know what I'm talking about
Also when phone in this case as well the back button takes forever to get it to respond and you almost have to force the button down , the built screen protector is ten times worse then the otterbox defender its sensitivity sucks
Would I recommend this case to anyone ? HECK NO !!!
If I could get my money back would I send it back? HECK YES !!!
IM WAITING for the otterbox armor case that looks way better and not a rushed product like the obex was.... they rushed there product to beat otterbox and lifeproof to the sales floor .. thus its a big piece of junk

[Q] Galaxy Death Note 8.0

Hi,
I've been playing latlely with my galaxy note 8.0 wich by the way is the best tablet I've ever used and notice that is very slipery.
I have never dropped it or anithing so before it happens I decided to use some magic spell on it called protecturum griporum Plasti dip!!!... anyway, the question is:
Do you think it would damage the tablet over time?? heating or something else??
So far so good, no noticeable overheating or signal looss, it is indeed A LOT grippier. it is the first try so I didnt take to much time with the masking tape nor painting the logo, If it happens to be no problem whit it and I find it realy apealing, I will remove this coat and apply 3 coats of plasty dip and paint the logo using a stencil or something (sugestions?).
Anyway please post your comments, here some pics:
Is it clear, looks like you started with a black/brown Note. Did it make the Note less slippery. Will be interesting to see how it holds up over time.

Yea! It made it a lot less slippery, much secure to hold and set on surfaces where previously it would feel like sliding off or damaging the shiny white plastic.
I got the Galaxy note 8.0 in eBay for a reasonable price and the plasti-dip can was a gift from a friend who used it to protect some bicycle parts and got some to spare, I’m nor really sure where did he buy it but I guess plastidip.com is a good start.
It been two days and heavy usage of the tablet, no overheating o performance issues whatsoever so I would say it’s a safe procedure, will try the 3 coats and possibly vinyl logo in a few weeks.:good:
Cheers!!!

Actually looks to me like he had the white version of the Note...the s-pen is white and I think I see some white near the edges where the coating is not completely even, but maybe the original poster can clarify for us. Is this coating black or clear?

:| I have no clue... I mean the can isn’t very clear, it doesn’t say anything about the dry product, although it says the regular: keep off from eyes or skin and vapors inhaling and the sort, but every paint can says something similar so... Anyway it’s a great question so I checked in plasti-dip official page and found:
"Is Plasti Dip® safe to use on children's toys, animal containment, and/or on kitchen utensils?
Plasti Dip® does not contain any heavy metals, and when completely dry, is considered harmless. However, it is not recommended that it be used on items that may be chewed or inserted into the mouth as it may present a choking hazard."
I’m hoping this is accurate cause I like the feeling of the Death Note 8.0 and I have already plasti-dipped my keyboards hand rest and mouse hahaha... let’s keep researching.
If I find something significant I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for the feedback

I haven't seen any and I don't think one is necessary. The display has a sapphire coating which if done correflty will hold up to anything you can throw at it. I have a sapphire Crystal on one of my mechanical watches and its never gotten scratched at all after a year of daily use.
Edit: I bought one just to test but I don't intend on using it long term. I'll let you know how it is.
Unlike the other Android Wear devices on the market, this one won't need it.
I would agree that this watch wouldn't need a screen protector, because of the sapphire crystal display. That being said...
You can scratch sapphire. You have to try really hard...but it is possible. I've done it on a mechanical watch of mine, and it drove me crazy...but a gemstone can scratch another gemstone.
THAT BEING SAID...I don't really know what good a screen protector would do with this face. Unless it's also made out of sapphire, what good would it do? OK...I'm being facetious (damn...had to Google that)...but you are also "talking" to a guy that HATES screen protectors. Like...A LOT...never had one on a phone, tablet, or watch that I've ever owned...

You can scratch sapphire, but you need a gem of equal or greater H rating. So unless you plan to throw the watch in a bag of saphhire crystals or diamonds, we should all be good.

Like I said...you have to try pretty hard to scratch sapphire...but it is easier than you think. If you or your SO have any diamond jewelry...that will do it. Also, any diamond tipped tools will also do it. It is possible...however unlikely in day to day living (minus the diamond jewelry part). And again...if something can scratch the sapphire, it sure as heck will go through whatever screen protector you would have on it...
So the screen protector I ordered from NewEgg by ilumshield or whatever the name was got canceled because they didn't ship it so I guess I'll try elsewhere.

Ive had a mechnical now for 8 years with sapphire crystal, and I mountain bike, backpack, and white water kayak with the watch on,and not a speck. Screen looks brand new. The bezel is marked up a bit. If this is truly sapphire we are golden.

I just got this today from Amazon, its a TGSP that's has 98% coverage on the glass its not quite perfect edge to edge. It feels nice and seems to resist finger prints more than the standard sapphire screen. Pictures will be posted below as well. The install was so easy it was a joke, quality seems good so far. You can also see my super awesome Nexus 6 in the reflection of the watch because I used it to take the pictures lol

You use your shirt? I tend to be in the safe side and always carry 1-2 microfiber cloth with me. I had tons of them that I bought for my DSLR and previous phones because smudges really bother me. I'll let you know how it works out; if I forget just quote me on here so I get a notification.
Just a little update the TGSP still shows smudges but not as much as the sapphire do now that's out of the bag
I got the same screen protector as above and removed it after a day. I found that the additional thickness of the glass protector on such a tightly manufactured face made a big difference. It reduced the already barely sufficient visibility in sunlight, provided a channel for dust and debris to gather on my watch face, and reduced clarity ever so slightly.
Nothing wrong with the actual protector, it just wasn't for me. I think I will probably have to go naked which I don't like because I'm not sure I would prefer a non glass protector.
