My A100 is rooted (not touched the bootloader/installed custom ROM) - when i do a factory reset my understanding is that it will still remain rooted (I used ZeroNull's simple rooting method).
So when it's reset - do I simply re-install the Superser app and then Titanium backup - and then reinstall the backed up apps I want - or is there some step I'm missing here?

Factory reset is just that, goes back to how it was from the factory for the rom. In case of stock, no root. Just redo the root again. Or just check for root after the reset, but I doubt it stays.
Edit: after re root use TiBu to restore whatever you want, as its the same rom restore data too, unless some bug is why you want to reset.

Just did a factory reset. As expected it wiped everything - but I was still left with root access.

Ok good to know, thanks for letting us know. I didn't run stock long enough to do a reset on, but my other phones and tabs lost root.

Note that if you deleted any apks and do a factory reset, they are not restored. I deleted several apks for many of the preinstalled apps, and after I did a factory reset, they were not restored. So a factory reset does not really return the tablet to the state it was from the factory(no root, all system apps installed), rather it wipes all user and app data.
Yeah I should probably have mentioned it doesn't do much, if anything, to /system. Any changes there are likely left alone, which is why root stayed. The last time I did a factory reset was on my evo and it lost root for some reason. Same with my rooted stock nook, before cm7.

So i did the factory data reset and when I restarted the phone my root access was gone.
So I guess I have to re root the phone again.

You can flash the rooted kernel with CWM and I think it will be rerooted and you won't have to replace the ROM.
This would be a good opportunity for you to make a cwm flashable backup of the stock rom, since I don't think anyone has yet.

I have a back up of my stock ROM via the backup function of CWM but it has my personal stuff in it. If he just did a factory reset and has no root, he can make a clean backup of the stock ROM but I'm not sure if his back up would work across phones but I don't see why it wouldn't. The important things to back up would be system and data but not cache.
I had a backup of my stock rom via cwm thankfully but I had to re root my phone and also I had to reinstall CWM all over again.
I will definitely not be using the factory data reset feature anymore.The only reason why I even used it was cause the storage space on my phone was showing incorrect numbers and every time I tried to reinstall the stuff that was on it before it keep telling me i was out of space.
After clearing the internal storage space everything came back to normal but my root was gone and CWM to.
But everything is good now.

Hey Guys..Verizon GN here. I was curious if someone who is rooted with a custom ROM goes to the Backup and Restore menu and clicks Factory Data Reset, what happens?I'm assuming it wouldnt go back to a factory rom.
you would assume incorrectly. it wipes user data, but does not restore stock images.

Ok do I rooted my s3 yesterday using Mr robinson's method not to trip the flashing counter. I'm on stock with the latest update. Stock recovery also. How can I wipe my phone to the factory state but still keep root? If keeping root is not possible, then how can I do a factory reset? I assume the factory reset option in the phone settings won't work. Thanks guys

Factory Reset only wipes user data (APPS, messages, etc.), not the system, which is where SU is stored so you can factory reset without losing root. HOWEVER, I myself have never tried it via stock recovery or the option within settings (Though I firmly believe this still holds true). That said, the only way I can tell you to do it and be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you won't lose root is to 1st install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP [I prefer TWRP]) and then choose the "Wipe Data/Factory Reset) option from within that recovery.

Thanks that helps a lot. anyway, have you tried the factory reset option in the phone settings? I suppose it is the same as the factory reset in recovery mode, isn't it? so just to be sure, after doing like you say, everything is wiped except the S.U app that comes with the rooted Stock Rom ?
Factory reset through settings does not remove root, ever. But you will need to reinstall busybox from the market. No big deal

I'm away to give my Note 2 to my mum, I want to wipe all data and give her a clean install with bloatware removed. If I use the factory reset / wipe data option in CWM will I lose root access? Is there an alternate way to wipe data and keep root access / custom recovery?
I have factory reset/wipe data from CWM a lot of time......No u don't loose root access, but doing so u just reset ur current rom.....this is my experience.

Use Philz Recovery... it gives u the option of fixing root before rebooting... for a clean install use odin... it is better to wipe everything and install the rom again... or at least factory reset from within the rom (it could cause some issues)...

No, If you factory reset you don't loose root, because factory reset only removes your personal data, apps, settings... but not system apps and root binaries.
hello everyone. i'm having a problem my phone is running extra slow. i'm rooted on stock, dealing with the official crap 4.3 fw. i tried to factory reset my phone. i wiped the data,cache, dalvik and fixed permissions. after the factory reset super user, internal files and teamwin recovery is still on my phone. once i start installing any apps the phones starts to run like the first gen android. i need help. i would like a complete full wipe that will revery everything completely back to stock.
i've already searched before making this post. i didn't see anything any results that had problems of these files staying on phone.

thanks for the info. i fixed my problem before having the chance to see you reply. i guess that is the only way to do it on 4.3 while on 4.12 that's all i did to get back to stock it wiped everything including super user. i will bookmark this info for future issues with this crap fw. thanks again for the info.
