Trouble downloading mp3's - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've done a search on the forum and have not found a solution to my problem. I had an epic 4g running a 2.2 froyo from and didn't have an issue. I have a particular site that I download daily podcast from and all I had to do was click on the icon....it then directed to another page then the android browser, or any browser for that matter, and asked if I wasn't to save file as. I upgraded to cm9 on the epic and ever time I went to the same site with any browser it wouldn't ask to save it. It wouldn't give an option to save it even with a long click and hold. So...here I am now with a brand new phone running a stock ics galaxy nexus and am still having the same issue as I was with the cm9 on my epic. I click on the link and it doesn't give an option to save the mp3, instead it tries to play it and the says cannot play file. Is there some setting that I am mossing somewhere to help out with this. Another not is on the epic that was having the same issue is that when I deleted all m sic players on the system I could click and it would ask to save the file. But I don't think I should have to delete my music players and reinstall to be able to download mp3s. I was able to do it on froyo and Jo I can't figure it out on ics. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Have you tried setting it to request desktop site on browser settings?

Is that an option in the stock browser? Currently I'm using dolphin HD browser and if you are referring to the user agent....I have it set to desktop.

Slingplayer phone will not work on my Galaxy Nexus (fixed)

I have been a Slingplayer user for over six years. Yes I know how to set up my router. I can sling to any computer, to my iphone, to my ipad2, but when I try it on my Galaxy Nexus it will go to the screen where you choose your slingbox or the "directory" then just stays on that screen. I can click my box but to no avail.
I am 100% sure its an issue with either the android app, my Gnex, or another app that may be conflicting with it.
I am on CM9Kang 4.0.3 with the 4.0.3 radios and boot loader, I am using fracos kernel 12, and nova launcher. has anyone else had any issues.
I use the Sling Player and it has been working fine for me. I'm running the Codename Android rom.

Me, too. No problems with Slingplayer on the rooted stock ROM.
What radios and bootloader do you have?
This is as far as I can get.
using 4.0.3 radio. Have you tried a different sling player apk file? I'm sure its something within the phone if its working on everything else.

Guys,
I am experiencing the same thing as Chakra. My Slingbox works great on my iPad but when I connect to my Galaxy Nexus it fails to load past the Directory Screen.
I spoke to supervisors at Slingbox and they have no clue what to do and told me to reach out to Google who has no clue what to do. This is the only forum on the web who has someone that has gotten past this. Please help me out.

JB and apps that use flash..

So I know that flash doesn't work on JB which is just retarded and honestly sucks because I used to hold it over my iFriends all the time. Also I know there is a work around to install flash player but it seems to only work on the default browser. The point being that I use Pulse and Cracked Lite pretty often and sometimes there are articles which have videos embedded in them (usually YouTube), with the absence of flash its impossible to view them. My question is how are people getting around this issue? I'm sure I'm not the only person who uses Pulse or Cracked and I'm sure there's other apps with the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't really have much of a solution, but my first phone was a LG Optimus One which couldn't even run flash. So I was stoked when I got my Galaxy Nexus with Jellybean so that I could finally watch tv shows on my phone. Then I found it that it had no flash. So basically what I did was use stock browser (Since I installed flash anyways) to watch things with flash with stock browser and use Chrome/Opera/Dolphin for everything else. Eventually I got tired of doing that I just stuck with the stock browser and realised how much faster and smoother it is. Sorry that I couldn't really help you at all, but that how I get around my issue.
It is my understand ing, tar if you push the app, it will work

[Q] Grooveshark wont work on CodefireX (CM10)

I have searched the forums and the web for any info around this.
I am trying to stream music from the grooveshark's html5 based website. While I can successfully do that from the stock OS, when I switched over to codefireX's CM10 based ROM it just does not work. The browsers, they all crash when attempting to play any music. I have tried this with stock browser, chrome and boat browser.
I noticed that there was a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778010&page=174 discussing that this could be a flash issue. So I tried installing flash as suggested here.
But no luck... Any help, is much appreciated. I am new, so could not post this directly in the development forum. Thanks!

The new Grooveshark does not use flash anymore. It should be straight HTML5. What's happening is there is an issue with the HTML5 Implementation somewhere thats causing an issue.
What browsers have you used with Grooveshark? Also, have you considered using the Grooveshark Native App? http://mobile.grooveshark.com/android

You are right, its HTML5, but I thought I should try out everything just in case. I have tried this using Chrome, Boat-Browser and the stock browser and all of them crash when I attempt to play music. Whats strange is that the Stock OS from Samsung plays everything well, and so do other mobile iDevices.
The issue seems to be related to CM10 if my guess is correct, as Chrome plays everything well when used in Samsung's stock OS.
Regarding the native android app, it needs a paid subscription and I wanted to use the free one they offer as an HTML5 app.
thanks!
Is anyone able to play grooveshark music on CM10? Can someone try and let me know? html5.grooveshark.com
curious to learn...
thx!

It worked flawlessly on my HTC desire running JB but when I switched to CM 10 on my SG3 I can't get it working. Pretty sure its a HTML5 implementation or something along those lines. Any other html5 sites to try out to see if they work?
Has anyone been able to access the html5 version of grooveshark on cm10 yet?
Other html5 sites seem to be broken as well.

On my note 2 the app has issues. It won't stream most of the time over cellular.
I can't get it to work on HTML5 either using Clean Rom which is based on stock.
Any insight would be nice as this used to work just fine on GB.
Finally someone with the same issue...

I have the same exact issue running Jellybomb Jellybean ROM on my SGSiii and experienced major Grooveshark fails when switching from ICS to Jelly. This goes for html5 browser and mobile app. I can rarely playback songs when on 3G and sometimes wifi. I never tried the stock Sprint Jellybean Rom so I cannot speak for it, and I have yet to mention on the Jellybomb dev thread because I'm still a noob building up my posts. I hope there is a fix on the dev side since I know there aren't that many diehard Groovehark users that ask for it...perhaps they will figure it out for us?...but perhaps this is just a major lapse for Grooveshark which is disappointing.
So....I contacted Grooveshark support and indeed they said that there is a major bug related to 4.1 and above. They basically said they would give me 2 months free for Grooveshark anywhere while they worked on a fix. They said an update to the app will hit sometime early next year!!! If you are paying for Grooveshark anywhere I highly suggest you contact them to get the service for free. The app still works great with a wifi connection albeit not perfect. They just requested I send them some Verbose Logs via the app which is very easy to do. Just go into settings and enable verbose logging and try to reproduce the error/failure. You can then send the logs thru the settings as well. Make sure to email support to let them know you've sent logs and which email is attached to that mobile account.
This must be a big bug for them to take so long for an update. I pray they aren't losing the battle with spotify and other free ad bloated services. But I must admit I am tempted to switch to paid Spotify service. Good Luck!

AOSP Browser 4.2

Anybody less than enchanted by Chrome in its current state? Well, now that the Nexus 4 has been rooted you can install AOSP browser, which is lovely and smooth The apk was extracted from a Nexus 7 AOSP 4.2 build, but it should work on the N4 as well.
Benefits = faster benchmarks and smoother scrolling.
> Must be rooted.
> Copy the browser.apk into the system/app folder
> With a root file explorer change the file permissions of the browser.apk to -rw-rw-r (you will see this represented as 664) If you don't do this, it won't install.
> You must rename the BrowserProviderProxy.apk & BrowserProviderProxy.odex otherwise the browser will force close, just add a 1 to the name e.g. 1BrowserProviderProxy.apk1 Do not delete them, if you still want to OTA update Android. Android checks for any changes to the system/app folder before performing an OTA, so you will have to delete the browser.apk and rename the two file back to stock, when it is OTA time.

Bookmark Sync apk.

Does this one have the private browsing page too where there is no history? Incognito I think it's called. The browser apk I have does not have it. Also can some one upload the browser proxy apk and odex file for me I deleted mine like an ass. And I agree chrome blows!

Quite a bit slower than my stock Nexus 7 with the same ASOP browser 4.2, and even a blind crack-addicted donkey knows that the S4 Pro is more powerful than Tegra 3:laugh:
Your result 1801 ms (Nexus 4)
My Result 1443 ms (Nexus 7)
At the end of the day, Sunspider is an outdated benchmark and page load times and HTML 5 compliance are more important, but it is strange that the same SoC minus 2 cores in Windows Phone 8 can achieve sub 1000ms scores, it seems that Qualcomm have a lot of room to optimize their Javascript libraries for Jelly Bean 4.2.
Guess I MUST root my phone now!

OK THREAD CLEANED
Now if you are gonna come in here and start a fight cause you prefer iOS to the superior android then prepare to be flamed by everyone. You are on an android forum.
BTW I have had one of your multiple accounts permabanned already. Wish to make that 2 in 24 hours. .

Thanks for keeping the thread on track, I though my counterpoints were quite good (ego!) It is shame I can't see them, such is price for maintaining a healthy forum.
It would be good to have a sticky on XDA, where a truely knowledgeable developer or superuser could debunk a few of the common misconceptions about Android / Davlik / Java and its performance vs other platforms, it would make a good read, and set a bar for future Android vs iOS comparisons.

Hi.
Is it not possible for someone just to put this up on Google Play as an app for everyone to download? I know someone has done so for the 4.2 keyboard with gesture typing. Just thinking if the same cant be done for this.
Thanks.

I too would like this, this is the first android phone that i dont plan on rooting. I have only rooted to correct certains flaws in other phones (HTC desire not having enough internal memory ) or to to be on latest version of android and get rid of crappy skins (LG o2x, GS2,GS3)
However as certains apps now refuse access with root access, sky go (when its available for jellybean) and barclays banking apps, i would be missing out too much by rooting just for the sake of it, since i will have latest version of stock android as soon as anybody.
However i love the AOSP browser and thus would love to be able to use it without rooting, if anybody knows of a way?

[Q] What are you using for Flash Player?

My Galaxy S4 on stock rooted 4.3 displays videos on Facebook and other sites just fine using Chrome. But my G Pad will not. After clicking on a video link, I get a message that I need to install Adobe Flash player but that my device does not support it. I searched XDA and everything I found says Chrome is not compatible. But Chrome is obviously compatible since it works on my S4. Any ideas how to get around it? I'm stock rooted on my G Pad.

There's a KitKat compatible Flash Player .APK floating around the xda forums.. Basically some framework needed to use Flash was removed from Android in KitKat, that made it impossible to use Flash, but then a dev repacked this framework into Flash Player .APK itself and relinked the paths. So.. Basically you will have to search for that special .APK, (It is over in the Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 2013 forums somewhere.)
They recommend using Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack along with this .APK.. But I guess you could try other Flash compatible browsers such as Maxton, Boat and Holo Browser.
Who knows. It works at least for me.
Also Chrome isn't compatible with Flash, never have been and never will be. It must have been something else.. HTML5 or whatever they use these days. Chrome has never been able to play Flash content.
Hope this helps.
Yea, I've seen that thread about it. But I'm currently on stock 4.2.2. And I agree about Chrome, that's what I've heard too. But seriously, it works on my S4. I can use Chrome on both my phone and tablet, navigate to the same exact site, and click on the same exact link. It will play on the S4 and give me the error on the G Pad about needing flash player and my device not being compatible. I'll ask in the S4 forum to see if anyone knows why/how it works. Appreciate the quick response CuraeL.

How about the "Request Desktop Site" in Chrome drop down menu? Is it enabled on one of the devices. I reckon it will work better if it's not set to request desktop since it may use a mobile player plug-in instead. Perhaps that's the catch?
If not, then I don't understand how Chrome is doing anything, it has never been able to.. ;/
But yeah, maybe the Sammy S4 boys know something we don't, lol. ^^
Let us know what you find.
