Might be a better place to ask

But if you would have looked in the proper place to begin with, you would see this thread where there is a nice HOW TO on kies.

[Q] Can only get to Download Screen - Not visible by Odin or Kies

I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer to my problem.
Galaxy S2 Epic 4g (Sprint)
I hate to admit I am somewhat of a noob. I tried to install ics using Odin. At the time I thought I had the I9100. Needless to say I was wrong.
PDA –—> I9100_CODE_I9100XXKPA_CL51925_REV02_user_low_ship. tar.md5
Phone –—> MODEM_I9100XXKPA_REV_02_CL1094591.tar.md5
CSC –—> GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXAKPA.tar.md5
The first instructions I read din't say to do the pit file. So I didn't. I have read later that I should have. The process failed. And when I restarted the phone I can only get to the download screen. When I try to get to recovery I get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I also get the same message if I simply plug the usb into the phone while off, before any buttons are pushed.
Neither Kies or Odin recognize the phone anymore. I've tried different USB ports, a different computer. And I've hooked up a friends AT & T Galaxy S2 and it's recognized fine. Neither computer I've used even makes the beep when you hook up the phone.
The short is since it connected before the flash, and the other phone is showing I'm confident it's not PC related. But not being able to get anywhere besides the download screen has my hands tied to do anything else.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! And I have searched all over and can only find similar problems that turn out to be PC related.
Insurance isn't an option. I left sprint before my contract was done. I don't use the phone for calls. I use it more as a second device for apps. What is involved in the JTag?
A mod needs to sticky a ICS I9000 FAQ. There has to be 4-5 threads on the first page of the Q&A thread ALONE. Seriously people, search!
The JTAG option costs $50.
Insurance claim is the other option.
Done, said, over.

ya dude its hardbricked. I wonder how many more et4g's will undergo this process? seems like a hell of a lot of theses threads lately... sad really.
You need to read so many people doing stupid stuff to expensive phones. Unless your rich you should read more. Talk to Josh from mobiletechvideos.Com. I get so pissed when I read these threads.

ok so after a little scrolling through the thread i found that if you take the battery out the phone and plug it in the computer the red led on the phone comes on still no boot or recovery/download mode just seeing if that helps at all
Your completely bricked. U flashed bootloaders for a different device. A jig will not help. Do a search for mobiletechvideos and jtag. Sucks but it's your only solution. Unless u send it back to Samsung
Jtag is becoming more popular, on Craigslist I found a few people locally offering the service..
Might want to check to see if you have anybody locally that can do it.

GS3 Randomly bricked on me?

So my phone was working fine all day. I pull it out of my pocket and the screen is black. Tried to turn it off and back on with the power button but that did nothing. I pulled the battery out and put it back in and then it went to the first screen that says "Samsung Galaxy SIII" and permanently froze there. I did root it a few months ago and never had a problem with it. I'm able to load Odin on the phone but I can't get to the factory reset screen by doing Volume+UP+Power. I tried using Odin and putting back in the official firmware but it gets stuck at "NAND Write Start!!"
After working with it for a bit, now whenever I turn it on it and don't do anything else it goes straight to the Downloader and says:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
I can still go into the downloader but that Nand Write issue still.
Seriously, any help will be appreciated.
Recovery is, power up & HOME & Power. Try that again hold it for about 5 seconds. After having the phone on the charger for a while though and not plugged in.

Tried that and the same "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue, Please select recover mode in Kies and try again" came up.

Since ODIN can see your phone have you tried to install CWM from ODIN and then restore a backup from CWM?
If you do not have a backup search the forum, there is a nandroid in there somewhere you should be able to use. Stick it on your extsd card, then flash it with CWM.

Hey man, I literally just had this conversation with someone else a few days ago about the exact same error being throw but on an SGS2.
Here is a snippit of our PM (where it says I, that is me not him),
I have an S3 but my wife has an S2. Is your S2 also Tmobile or is it ATT, Skyrocket or I9100? This thread is for the Skyrocket but you'll get the idea of what to do. I also punched in firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again galaxy s2 in Google and got a crap-ton of answers. Seems pretty common. As long as you have power, you can usually get out of it. It is when you have no glint of power that you should worry, as you know from your S3's.

Not sure if he got out of it, but I can shoot the two of you a PM to get you hooked up if you'd like.

Sure I'd appreciate that. As a last resort I'd bring it to a phone repair shop and give them a shot at it. If all else fails I'll screw it up beyond repair so Samsung won't be able to tell it was rooted.
It's called Sudden Death Syndrome, and it's when the eMMC chip (internal memory) dies. So far it's pretty common in i9300's (international S3). The only way to fix it is to get the motherboard or entire phone replaced because it's impossible to replace the parts that go bad.

That's what I was afraid of. Does anyone know how I can make it so Samsung will not be able to tell that it was rooted?

The good news is that when the phone [basically] dies because of this, when you go into Download Mode (the screen that shows all the info in the top left corner), it will always say "CUSTOM", whether or not you're rooted, because it can't read from the internal memory chip. People have sent their phones in with custom ROMs and have gotten them repaired. Worst case, you play dumb.

I've only read about 2 incidents where the company sent the phone back saying it was tampered with and that was since the MyTouch 3G... been stocking the forums for quite some time, I have serious doubts you will be able to do anything but send it in.

Bumping my thread back up. Those ****ers told me that it was repaired over live chat and on the phone. When I got the phone back it wasn't changed at all.I went on live support again and they told me that the device was rooted and that there was nothing they can do and ****ing left the chat.
If anyone has ANY advice it is greatly appreciated..
EDIT:
Getting a new error when I try to use Odin: There is no PIT partition.
Any solution to that?

[Q] Recovering pics with dead screen

Hopefully this is the right place for posting this. Its for an S4 but an Android phone question in general. I think.
A friend of mine has an S4 with a dead screen. The phone still works though. It turns on and gets calls, etc. You just can see the screen. She wants to recover the pictures stored in the internal memory. Plugging the phone in only shows media mode and there is nothing there. The phone is not in USB debugging mode either.
Is there any "back door" way in so that I can copy off the pics and then wipe it? She going to get a new one with a warranty but they send her a whole new phone and she has to send hers back.
THANKS for ANY info at all.
So when you plug it in to your pc you get just one option?

Yes. Usually you would see the internal memory and the external SD if you have one. This only shows the phone as a media device and when you click on it there is nothing there.
Ok. Hmmmm....usually there are 2 modes, media and storage which you can choose IF the screen was on.
Is there any reaction when you touch the screen?

I dont think there is any response. It doesn't help that its locked too. I thought maybe there was some back door command line stuff I could do. I've Googled a little but cant really find an answer that works when your screen is dead. I don't have the phone in hand at the moment to try anything either unfortunately.
Well bro...I really don't know. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will chime in and help you.

Thanks! I did actually. I told her about Google and DropBox with their automated picture backups and also having the camera save to the SD card. I think she'll from this.
It looks like I may be able to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to get in and push commands to the phone. Looks like I would be able to turn on USB debugging this way and/or pull off files. I have to read up more on it.
I've noticed that the sometimes my files will not show up when connected util I've unlocked the screen, then bam, the files appear. Could be a rom thing or a settings thing. If the phone still responds to touch, try to unlock it blindly.

[Q] Note 2 won't boot past samsung logo without connecting to charger

Hi Team,
I am a new member in xda. I would like to get a solution to a strange issue i am facing with my note 2 (gt n7100). I am rooted and was running DN3 v3.2. I came to know that note 2 has official upgrade to 4.4.2, so i updgraded my note 2 via odin after downloading the firmware file and got the new update on my phone. When i started navigating on my new update, i realized that most of the applications were force closing and so i did a factory reset of the data. Since then whenever i switchon my phone, it would reboot from the gt n7100 logo screen and back again. So if i connect my phone to a charger, be it usb or wall charger, it would boot up normal. But if i just boot it without the charger, it would not go past the gt n7100 screen. I have also noticed that once the phone is past the boot screen after being connected to the charger, it would reboot again in a while if i take off the charger. Guys please help, my phone is out of warranty and i need a solution for this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Rohan

Sad enough, my friend also facing same situation.
Someone also posted same thread in Q&A section.
Maybe, either battery is faulty or kernel problem.
Hopefully someone helps us.

Try this... gently lift the centre plate in the use port with a small flat screw driver and clean the port with alcohol. Remember not to use too much force or insert yr screwdriver too deep. Alternatively clean the port first and then use a toothpick and stuck it below the plate n try n booth up. I ve save a few s3 and note 1 this way. Cheers

I am just guessing it might be the battery, as when i try to reboot my phone with my friends note 2 battery, it boots up normal without any issues.
But i really can't convince myself that a custom OS killed my battery. :crying:
Its faulty battery. see my thread for my expeerience http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2769669
