So I've been using this cheap-o case and belt-clip I got from ebay for several months now. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. Recently my phone seems to want to pop out of the belt clip more while I walk around.
So I'm looking for suggestions on a new case with a belt clip. Something semi-rugged would be nice, since I work in a factory environment, but doesn't have to be a crazy Otterbox either.
I got one at a mall booth. It has Reiko on the front. It's a mylon canvas soft side case with both belt loop holders and belt clip. It's been more durable than my old one which had a thin plasic clip.
I have been using the Sedio convert combo, heavy duty holster but adds a fair amount of bulk.
I use the Otterbox Defender... I probably don't need that level of protection, but the case feels and looks great. The weight doesn't bother me, I like feel of the phone in the case better than with no case, which feels very fragile/cheap to me. The case provides excellent grip. Holster works well too.
I have also used the Seidio Active case, which is considered to provide good protection for people who don't need Defender level protection. Case and holster are both lighter than the Defender/holster, holster is good. This case feels kind of spongy or loose to me though, not as solid as the Defender, which is why I switched.

Which one is the best? Please let me know I don't know which one to buy for my Droid X. Also if you know of any heavy protection cases for it just comment below...
can someone plz answer this haha i really wanna know i think its between the seidio rugged and the otterbox defender in my opinion but plz help me out which do you guys think would be the best heavy protection case?
I have both the seidio, and the otterbox. The Otterbox wins at everything but Seidio has the better holster.

I ordered the Trident to replace my Rugged. The Trident is better in my opinion. The rubber on the rugged wore out within a month. The trident also seemed to be thinner and molded to fit my hand better. I almost got the Otterbox, but I am glad I ordered the Trident instead.
As far as protection goes, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three as all are built like tanks.
I have the Seido one and I have loved it. I love it has a piece of rubber to cover over the camera so that nothing can scratch it. I have been debating about getting the Otterbox but dont really now if I want to or not
I work heavy construction (demo of fire damaged houses) and I roll up my sleeves and get in there with my guys on a daily basis. Needles to say; the case gets a BEATING. The case is on my tool belt at all times, the phone does get answered whenever it rings; my gloves usually have foreign matter that should not be allowed within 10 feet of anything electronic. 90% of my guys have Androids and we use Tikl alot as well. We had a number of "rugged" cases come and go, but Otterbox is the winner.
I have had my hands on all three and nothing beats the $14.99 Dual Layer Vertex Case I found @ Techie Warehouse. I would definitely recommend googling this. Have you ever taken a good look at the Seidio Innocases... they are molded with cheap plastic and when you drop your Droid X with the Innocase the two piece snap on just comes apart half the time so you end up with a minor scuff.
I haven't used Seidio or Trident, but I own the Otterbox Defender. A regular $50, you can find it for $35 shipped on eBay. I'm definitely happy and don't have anything bad to say about it.
It has rubber flaps to cover all plug openings and they fit snug, all buttons are covered and pressable through the rubber, and the screen sets in about 1/8" so if it sits on its face it is not sitting directly on the screen. There is also a built-in screen protector. The camera also sets in so there is no resting the phone on the camera. I particularly like the holster because you can place the phone in any of 4 directions and it snaps in perfectly: screen out - either direction, screen in - either direction. The case is easily removable if you need to get to the inside quickly, such as the battery or sd card.
It was basically the best $35 I've spent on an accessory for my X (with the 5000mAh portable charger being a close second XD ) and I definitely don't feel like I have to handle it with extra care anymore.
The Kracken has all ports covered, along with all speaker holes.
The Kraken is pretty much like the old otterboxes with covered the camera with a clear skin, along with pieces of fabric covering all speaker-,mic holes. The Otterbox for the DX does NOT have those, which makes it not completely dustproof.
And as for the guy complaining about the plastic Innocase coming apart on the Seido when you drop it..... It was designed that way. It spreads the impact of your clumsy drop away from the much more expensive phone, and towards the cheap replaceable case. Think of it like a crumple zone in a car. Its meant to protect the insides of the phone, not keep it pretty.
Any seen a dock that fits these cases? I know there have been some handbuilt. Seidio has usually made a dock that fits their cases. But I have yet to see this.

What is the best thinnest case for the samsung captivate!
Don't know what your parameter for "thin" is but I found the TPU cases from ebay to be the best. I had tried a BodyGlove case and a generic silicone case but found them too thick (the silicone case looked ugly too IMO - dull & attracted too much lint). The TPU case I got from ebay has been great - glossy yet grippy. Adds about a mm top & bottom.
I have tried three different cases and found that thr "Body Glove" seems to be the one I end up using the most. It is very thin, tight fitting and feels good while holding the phone. There are really several good choices around. This is of course IMHO.

i use the bodyglove case with the diagonal lines on the back. my brother uses the sedio one that snaps in 2 and has the smooth body. the body glove is a little thinner and looks more stylish. both are around 15-20 dollars. i prefer the body glove one because of the back actually, just adds a little touch to an otherwise plain looking phone. both are nice because they dont pick up dust and lint like the cheapo 2 dollar ones. you can tell quality by the seams of the rubber and smell. you get what you pay for. if your phone is worth 400, why spend 2 dollars on a case right?

How much protection are you wanting exactly?
Just picked up the Body Glove yesterday. Really like it, doesn't collect dust and very thin. Good fit also.

Cheap, looks good (can't really see the pattern except at a certain angle), protects great, and is the thinnest protective case I've seen.
Check these out. They are not as sticky as regular silicone skins and they are fairly thin + cheap.

Body Glove is pretty darn thin. I have one but I replaced it with the Otterbox Commuter, just to change things up. Commuter is a bit thicker but I don't mind it at all so I am sticking with it. I do recommend the Body Glove though. Good sleeve.
Plus one for body glove.
Its perfect. Smooth enough that it comes out of pocket easy, but grippy enuff that I can throw it on dashboard without it flying off with the first turn I make.
I also think it looks great, fits perfectly, and I can hold the phone without dropping it-which is the reason I wanted it in the first place
are you looking for a hard case or skin? body glove or a tpu skin is your best bet for the thinnest protection but if you want a hard case then check out Seidio innocase surface
I just got a Xmatrix case (I think its a knock off as its not rubberized anywhere) but the fit is great and gives you a near naked feel. Covers the back and adds a bit to the front edge so the screen does not touch a flat surface if you lay it face down.

I just ordered this case - its the slimmest/nicest looking imho, I am currently using the otterbox defender case - which i like, its a bit on the bulky side, but does offer excellent protection - my only real complaint with it is that its a pain to get the the battery if needed - have to take the rubber off, then separate the case and remove the phone from it to gain access to the back cover...

Looks just like a TPU case which if you don't mind having a not as fancy case you can get the Amzer one on amazon for $5 shipped and the knockoff ones on ebay for about $3-4 shipped. But the case you linked to is one very nice looking case.
All nice looking cases. I may have to try the TPU out. Looks nice.

+1
That Amzer case does it's job very well. It protects, looks good, thin and is subtle in a good way. The fact that it is now ~$6.00 makes it an absolute steal. I usually don't buy cheap stuff for my phone (or for anything for that matter) but this case performs like a $20 case.
Only issue I have with it is that mine seem to be less snug than it was when I first got it. I only take off my case when I have to do a battery pull so it's a bit surprising that it got loose so easily. I recently bought a Otterbox Commuter to replace this case because I was getting bored with it but I wouldn't say I changed because it was necessary; it was just cause I was bored and I found a good deal for it.
+1 for the xmatrix case. It's a hard case but very slim and is a good fit without any movement or shuffling. Plus, there is a minor lip on the front so you can rest it face down.
It snaps on in the back...just one piece.
Body glove for sure best slim streamline case

Hi, i was wondering about which case buy and want to see your opinions about the best case for the cappy.
I've been watching the Trident Clyclops: http://www.cyclopscase.com/products/Trident-Cyclops-Protective-Case-for-Samsung-Captivate--Red.html
And also the otterbox http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-captivate-cases/samsung-captivate-cases,default,sc.html.

I had issues getting to the four buttons with the Otterbox Defender. Nevertheless, in terms of protection, I trust them wholeheartedly.
Anyone has tested the Trident?
In addition to otterbox and cyclops look at the seidio active x.
this one http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/csk3sscap-rd.htm? i like the desing
I just had my second Otterbox holster break. They replaced the first one without batting an eye. I haven't had a chance to call about #2, but frankly I'm not sure if I want to risk it. Fortunately the phone fell out while I was driving my car, not my motorcycle, but I'm not sure I want to risk it again.
So far it's the only case I've tried.
I hate to buck the trend, but I really like the cheap TPU eBay cases. I know, I know, some of us think you need to spend a lot to pamper your Cappy, but I do have my reasons.
They are cheap. I'm big on spending less than $5 for things.
TPU is a great blend of rigidity and pliability. I think silicone is a touch too soft to disperse impact energy, and hard plastic transmits the energy to the phone and often breaks in the process.
They are slick, but easy to hold. I carry my phone in my pocket. I think holsters look kinda dumb. TPU is generally very smooth and slides in and out of a pocket very nicely.
They are thin. Many of the hard molded cases turn your sexy-thin Captivate into a non-sexy blob, cool molded patterns notwithstanding. Lots of the silicone cases have kind of a shapeless look that I don't like.
I've been using a plain black TPU case for a while now, and I get lots of comments on how thin my phone is. I've also dropped it several times with no ill effect, except a less shiny spot on one corner of the cover. No complaints, and I really have a hard time imagining how the expensive ones are better.
TPU is nice and much, much better than silicone. I wish otter/seidio/trident would use TPU. I have a thin TPU case (body glove) and like it alot. Its just sometimes I want the thicker, two layered plastic and rubber case which is why I also have the seidio active.
The first case I bought was the pdair aluminum which would be a nice case but it kills the cellular signal so I can't recommend anyone buy it. Wifi works fine so if I ever travel somewhere I won't have service I plan on using it.
I like my Bodyglove case just fine. I've used it since the launch of the cappy and couldn't be happier. It's more rigid than silicone and less bulky than the otterbox. I've dropped my cappy numerous times on pavement, and as long as a jutting edge doesn't hit the screen it won't break. There is a slight lip on the front of the body glove that makes it so the screen doesn't hit when dropped on a flat surface.

Last I checked, Otterbox only has the Commuter for the S2, ATM.
Body Glove
I have bought like 5 cases for my cappy, the Otterbox, Body Glove, a slim hard plastic snap on case and a full hard snap on case.
In the end my 2 favorites are the Body Glove and the Slim snap on that snaps only on the back.
The otterbox case is nice, it is just too bulky. I use the Body Glove daily because it protects from impact, is not bulky and slides in and out of the pocket easy.
Moving forward I am all about the TPU cases.
I use this case http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BD2-HK3SSCAP-BK
Look on ebay, I've seen these for $35. Dropped the phone twice and there's no damage on the phone at all.
I use the otterbox commuter with an invisible shield screen protector. I work with concrete and often get my phone cpvered with dust and grime. The case gets really dirty but when I remove it the phone is still perfect. I would take this case over the bulky defender version.

Anyone have a side case with a solid belt clip that they are using with a Diztronic (TPU-cases)?
I have been trying the pocket and shirt pocket but so far its driving me nuts. I think I need to go back to a belt holster but I like my current case so im looking into holsters like this:
http://www.shopandroid.com/ecolife-hydro-side-case/4A120A8418.htm
The issue I have with many of this style is the poor belt clip lacking something from the bottom to keep it from sliding off.
Verizon sells one. Back before the LTE version came out, I walked into a local store with my GSM version and had them pull out whatever accessories they had that could work.
It's the biggest generic one they sell, ~$20. It's got a clip, not belt loops. I have a Diztronic TPU case on mine, and it stretched the case quite a bit, but at least it fits. The salesperson had a RAZR with a case, and her's also just barely fit (they're almost the same height).
I personally am looking now at the plastic holsters where you can snap in the cased phone.
Seidio makes really good holsters that sometimes can accept other cases on them . The draw back is Seidio is very proud of their cases and holsters . Im sure there will be cheaper alternatives coming out shortly .
There's a nice thread on this forum that summarizes 4-5 different holsters. The Seidio one is about $25 or so, without the case even. There's a real cheap $7+ one from htcpedia, which I have incoming, but reviews have not been good =P.
the siedio surface holster fits a tpu case pretty well. i added some "shims" to tighten it up some using the loop part of velcro on the bottom retainer tabs of the holster and it fits perfectly.
it's actually my current combo that i'm using.
Here is the case I just got that fits well.
Cellet Bergamo Leather Case Holster
I already had an old holster from a previous phone that worked fine but I wanted just a pouch with no belt clip to slip in my pocket. This one has the the removable clip and the back is then completely flat which was perfect for me. I was using a $3 ebay slip in pouch for 4 months which is extremely thin but I wanted something just a tad thicker for the occasional drop.
I have had this only a few days but it is a snug fit which I like but it will loosen up a little based on past experience. One other note if you do get this and like the belt clip feature this one does not swivel but I think they sell replacements for this brand that might have other option.
I keep my phone naked and I do not think you could fit the phone in this case with a skin or anything else on it.
