Bricked and confused - Desire General

I've been searching for a couple of days now - hence this post.
My Desire boots to HTC green on white - nothing more.
I can get to Bootloader / fastboot / recovery, here's some details :
Code:
Revolutionairy
Bravo PVE3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MI CROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
Aug 10 2010 12.75.10
Can flash RUU (RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704) and it completes with no errors but all I gain (?) is the loss of recovery which I can restore using AndroidFlasher.
I have no access to multiple sdcards (formatted using gparted to fat32) which work in both my Win7 and Linux machines without issue - I don't think the sdcards are at fault.
Have done a full wipe and tried a couple of recoveries and am now on recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img. They all give the same errors, ie :
Code:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmclk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmclk0) (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
Searching for these has suggested that it's a USB brick but all fixes include loading something to the sdcard - which I have no access to.
Other things I've tried with no success :
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0

e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
It's like it's a "sdcard brick" but I've failed to find anything on that and that still doesn't explain why it doesn't boot. It used to boot with no sdcard.
This is now driving me mad, please can somebody provide some sanity ?

Have looked at bortak's troubleshooting guide? Ul get more info there. Look in Desire Q&A/ Stickies
Sent from my HTC Desire

Yes.
It seems I have two of the problems.
[1]BOOT PROBLEMS
[IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BACKUP]
[STEP10b]- go back to the main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
But I don't have a sdcard so ...
[13]RECOVERY CAN'T MOUNT SD-CARD
In fastboot :
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
...
OKAY [ 0.097s]
finished. total time: 0.097s
fastboot oem eraseconfig
...
(bootloader) Erase config: complete
OKAY [ 0.135s]
finished. total time: 0.135s
Which in theory has mounted the sdcard but when I go into recovery for step [1]BOOT PROBLEMS it's no longer mounted.
The commands from [13]RECOVERY CAN'T MOUNT SD-CARD don't work in recovery - I get
Code:
< waiting for device >
Catch 22 and hence my confusion.
How do I mount the sdcard when in recovery - which is what it seems needs doing ?

It cant mount sdcard if u dont have 1. Ul have to buy 1

The "no" there is most likely a typo. The guy is saying that he DOES have multiple SD cards which work properly under W7 and Linux but not with the Desire.

Again, he's not saying that he does not have an SD card, he's just saying that the procedure described in the guide requires that the phone "sees" the SD card but his phones does not.
Conclusion: he DOES have MULTIPLE WORKING SD cards, but the phone does NOT recognize them.
What the hell is wrong with you guys?

Theres fk all wrong with us. Ok if "no" was a typo then why does he say " but i dont have a sdcard so.." dont take it the wrong but was just a bit confusing. If they dont work, buy a new 1, like i already said because u need a sdcard

Again: he's saying that Bortak's guide requires him, at one point, to run a zip from the SD card, BUT HIS PHONE CANNOT MOUNT ANY SD CARD, thus he "does not have an SD card".

It now boots but still has no access to the sdcard.
Menu > Settings > SD & phone storage
shows SD card total/available space as "Unavailable" and the options to mount / format greyed out.

Lol sry, there is a link at the end too, i had a quick read at it and theres something saying about unlocking the sdcard so i thought maybe u have the same problem. Have look again and click the other link at the bottom, it explains more.

And then your sdcard will be mounted.
It might be mounted right at that second but when I go into recovery / reboot it defiantly isn't.
Anyone got any ideas ?

Have now made a mtd0.img with this site. I am using RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed so used 2.29.405.5 for the ROM version. Uploaded both it and the file flash_image from this post :
Code:
adb push flash_image /data
adb push mtd0.img /data
adb shell
chmod u+x /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /data/mtd0.img
That all went as planned but I am still left without a mountable sd card.
Is my Desire borked ?

Ok guys, thanks for all your help but I think I may have just answered my own question.
I've just noticed that it's not just the sd card it won't recognise. It's the SIM card too. This says to me that I've got a hardware rather than software issue here.
Sorry for wasting anyone's time. I need my phone for work calls and have not thought about inserting the SIM into a phone that doesn't work properly.
Again - thanks for your help here. Anyone know how much I can get for a spares / repairs Desire on the open market ?

[Q] SD card problem...

Hi, I've just received a 16Gb Kingston SD card (Class 4), and I immediately put it into my phone, and mounted it in recovery, then used GPart to partition it into:
Fat32 (13.5Gb)|1Gb EXT4|300mb EXT4|100mb swap
And I've come to flash a new ROM, and in recovery (CWM-AlphaRev Recovery v2.5.1.8) when I go to install a zip from SD card, then go to choose the zip, I get an error of:
"E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /sdcard"
Anybody know the problem?
Oh, also, the fat32 partition shows up in windows when it's mounted, so it's partitioned OK...

Yes, I had exactly the same issue. SD card not readable by recovery and usb, only from card reader.
OK thanks I'll take a look

Wait, my card IS readable by USB, just not recovery. I've not tried it in a card reader...
At first. I had the same like below after trying to restore backup from Amon recovery.
"E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /sdcard"
My PC didn't recognize my SD by USB toggle in recovery but it worked by card reader in my PC. After fastboot commands again became visible by recovery, but not by USB toggle or normal mode with Android working. After restore my backup with working recovery I made the rest of the steps from tutorial and now it's fully functional again.
which fastboot command did you use?
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 ?
I imagine I'll only need to do the "making it visible in recovery" part as it's visible by USB already
Yes, I used "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" in fastboot mode.
I'm trying it now and I'm down to step 3, and in cmd.exe I'm getting "The system cannot find the path specified."
Fastboot command it's not working? Maybe you need to install this http://www.4shared.com/file/7YyQXBE6/adbfastboot.html and extract to \windows\system32\. Then start your phone in fastboot mode (back + power). I have installed SDK on C:/SDK/tools. In cmd.exe:
cd C:/SDK/tools
After that commands should work.
No, fastboot is working, as I previously used
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
and 'fastboot oem boot' which gave me my CID
I then edited the mtd0.img with my CID in my hex editor, and attempted to move the flash_image and mtd0.img with the following command
'cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image'
which is when I get the error
Below commands work for me:
Code:
su
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
cat /sdcard/mtd0.img > /data/mtd0.img
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /data/mtd0.img
Maybe you missed "su". If still not work take a look for help in original topic maybe. I used tutorial from our polish board (more detailed). You can translate if you want.
http://bit.ly/fliTad
I wasn't having any luck whatsoever with that unfortunately...so I partitioned it through recovery (advanced>partition SD card) with a 1024mb EXT partition and 0mb swap, and recovery now recognises the SD card...we'll see how it goes

[Q] {URGENT} SDCard won't mount or format!

Hello, this is my first post but been seeing lot of threads here with lot of help, so I thank you all before you start helping me.
I have my HTC One X, tried to update to Jelly Bean using Dragon's ROM, all went fine but the phone got stuck on HTC logo.
Since that I can only start on recovery (ClockWork Mod 5.8.4.0), HBOOT (0.94) or fastboot.
There is no way I can access the SDCard from recovery to flash the rom.
I tried factory reset with no luck, wipe cache, wipe data.../factory reset. all with no luck! Every time I try to format my sdcard it says:
"Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure..."
"Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!"
"Skipping format..."
If I try with "mounts and storage" then "format sdcard":
"Formatting sdcard..."
"Error mounting /sdcard!"
I must say that I can use "Mount USB storage", did format with FAT32 on Windows & Mac, no luck. Also tried using parted with adb shell, formatting on ext2, but no luck.
Here is my "recovery.fstab":
~ # cat /etc/recovery.fstab
# mount point fstype device [device2]
# /recovery emmc recovery
# /boot emmc boot
# /system ext4 system
# /cache ext4 cache
# /misc emmc misc
# /sdcard vfat /dev/block/sda1 /dev/block/sda
# /internal_sdcard vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p14
# /data ext4 userdata
# /devlog ext4 devlog
/recovery emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p5
/boot emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p4
/cache ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p13
/data ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
/sdcard vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p14
/system ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
/misc emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p17
------------
And here my fstab:
~ # cat /etc/fstab
/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 /cache ext4 rw
/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /data ext4 rw
/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system ext4 rw
/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 /sdcard vfat rw
---------------
There is no way that ClockWork Mod can read my internal card for installing any zip. Any help would be really appreciated, even I would pay if necessary.
Thanks in advance for all the great work you guys do, and hope to get my phone back working!
If you mean the skydragon rom, ypu have to update hboot to use it.
And for the mounting problems... Try reflashing recovery.
I saw "fastboot oem format" somewhere and I aint sure what it does, but it might be worth a try.

I have downloaded a RUU, my version main is: version-main: 1.28.161.9
When I click the RUU it does nothing, someone please help?
Thanks.
You have to relock bootloader first: fastboot oem lock.
Then run RUU with admin rights.

I have fixed my phone running the correct RUU.
Right now I am using Android Revolution HD 9.8. How can I update my HBOOT to run Android Revolution HD 18.0?
Best regards.
Two choices: Use a JB RUU or flash the correct firmware for your cid.

Damaged partitions

Looks like I've destroyed the partitions in trying to make swap. Now it looks like:
Code:

Please, help.
Maybe try running a RUU.

RUU is not working. In stage sign update it says "wrong image". Tried several RUU from different sources.
Actually the problem is CWM can't mount any of /data /system /cache /sdcard
I found that I can't use RUU for my hboot 1.72.
And also I can't downgrade hboot without S-OFF.
And S-OFF is impossible for endeavor (jtag only?)
So, any way to restore partitions manually?
Reflash your firmware only using the flashtool..btw..can be that you need more than one try..i had a similar problem solved with this..

What do you mean? fastboot flash zip rom.zip?
The problem is I've mistook /dev/block/mmcblk0p14 with /dev/block/mmcblk0. I've tried delete it and recreate it. So now any custom rom is going to boot loop.
Any recovery says "Can't mount /sdcard". The same for /data, /system and /cache.

As far as I understand which HOX version you have, there's no S-OFF available. However, if you're on 1.72 hboot you may need to get the firmware from 4.18.401 ROM - I believe this one matches your 1.72 hboot. You'll find appropriate firmware (and if it works also ROM) on android-revlution. (I can't post links so far, so just google for "android revolution rom download" and you'll find HTC ONE X section there with a link to firmware downloads, you'll find mentioned 4.18.401 in 401 folder).
Good luck, let us know how it works!

Lol you can't Fastboot flash a rom.zip !!! You supposed to get the firmware zip from the official OTA file !
And as i see Alex already told you about a firmware.zip ...... that's not a rom zip
And read the threads he linked you to. Especially the placeholder thread. Its explained in the OP how to flash the firmware

O'rly? AFAIK rom.zip from RUU can be fastboot flash (if hboot version is compatible).
I do not familiar with rom.zip taken not from RUU. So, how to flash "stock odexed 4.18.401.2" room from android-revolution? (I can't mount sdcard in CWM, remember?)
And how can help flashing firmware.zip in itself? However, I've flashed it (of course) before try to flash rom.zip. It doesn't solve my problem. I am unable to mount any partition in CWM.
What if you sideload the rom.zip to the sdcard. Look for that ?

SDcard doesn't recognized by windows. But I can see it as a device in MiniTool Partition Wizard. I've tried to initialize it both as MBR or GPT, create partition fat32 or ext2 - in any case it's unable to mount from recovery. Even if put there some file.
I was able to:
1. Following this steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26030990&postcount=17
2. Restore vfat sdcard partition
3. SD card still not recognized by windows
4. adb push rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip (rom.zip is a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970)
5. Flash boot.img from rom.zip
6. Flash stock recovery also from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
7. Re-lock
8. Load, reload, factory reset, recovery...
Normal load just stuck with white screen "HTC quietly brilliant". Recovery and factory reset show me this (attached).

BTW, from any recovery it is the same:
Code:
cat /proc/emmc
dev: size erasesize name
mmcblk0p5: 00800000 00001000 "recovery"
mmcblk0p4: 00800000 00001000 "boot"
mmcblk0p12: 50000000 00001000 "system"
mmcblk0p13: 14000000 00001000 "cache"

mmcblk0p3: 00600000 00001000 "radiocab"

Any ideas?
I had the same problems with error in partitions..so I flashed stock recovery for my cid and did the factory reset through bootloader...after s few times and also flashing firmware zip I didn't got any more those issues..flashed again custom rom...used for few hours went back to apx mode and since then even with accessing recovery I can't flash anything as it gives errors etc...I was finally able to flash stock boot.IMG and stock recovery and relocked bootloader...know the repair service has my phone and I wait since nearly two weeks for anything from them...if I won't get the phone tomorrow I will call them...maybe the forgot to sent back or so xD...

I don't think HTC will replace my phone after this... xD (see attachments)
The problem was he has discharged with stock recovery and boot stuck, and for some reason wont to charge in hboot or any else available screen for the moment. It also disallow me to flash anything while "low battery". Well, I figured it out... xD
But it is another story...

If you're careful enough with the reassembly HTC will still replace your phone, though if hboot is accessible they probably wont replace it because of your tampered bootloader, also, you could of charged it while powered off?

For some reason it wouldn't charge while powered off.. Have no idea why. I've charged it "manually" and now I carefully keeping battery level. From recovery CWM or any else recovery it is charging normally.
So you think if I'll flash stock recovery, boot and rom, relock it - HTC may replace it with new device?
However, it's not so interesting as manually restore partitions table...

[Q]HOX Stuck on quietly brilliant screen

I put ARHD ROM and everything was fine, until i put Fonter module and changed font and then HOX stuck at quietly brilliant screen..
I was in panic and i wiped everything, and sdcard, and data, and system, everything.. And then i f**** up all..
So now i can go into recovery, i can go in fastboot, everything is working, just i cannot get sdcard to work. I think that it should be formatted but it won't work.. I tried several ways that i googled and on every i stuck
I tried put TWRP but it stuck on swipe to unlock and it won't work, i tried several versions, still nothing..
I tried this How to: Fix a corrupted DATA partition on the HTC One on ARHD webpage ( I cannot put links )
And when i put this
Code:
/tmp/mkfs.ext4 -b 4096 -O ^huge_file,^dir_nlink,^ext_attr,^resize_inode,^extra_isize -m 0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p37
It say
Code:
Could not stat /dev/block/mmcblk0p37 --- No such file or directory
Then i tried this
Code:
Here's what you'll need:
Working recovery, basic knowledge of adb & the shell
Parted (download here)
stock PB31IMG.zip
Note also that I had run unrevoked forever (so my phone was S-OFF) ... I'm not sure if that's required or not.
So, grab parted from the link above. Now you need to extract the individual binaries from the .zip (the 6 files in the sdparted folder within the zip), ideally to your android-sdk\tools directory. Now push all 6 files (adb push [file] /sbin/). Next, we need to make them useable, so go into the shell (adb shell). Change to your /sbin/ directory, and run: chmod 0755 <file> on each of the 6 files.
Now, we need to fix the partitions. This is assuming that the partitions are there, just the wrong format (which is what happened to me .. I accidentally made them FAT32 instead of ext). So, run the following: parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkfs ext2. It will ask if you want to continue, hit yes. When it asks for the partition number, enter 1. Next, when it asks for the format, enter ext2. Let it do its thing. Now, once it's done, run parted again. This time, enter partition 2 (everything else is the same).
Once all that's done, your recovery program should be able to mount both the /data and /cache partitions. If that's true, you're pretty much done! One thing I found was that I couldn't directly install a new OS (I tried both Cyanogen and Ultimate). In both cases, it would look for stuff in the davik-cache that it couldn't find, so something wasn't installing correctly I think. So, if that happens, flash back to the stock PB31IMG.zip (put it in the root of your /sdcard/ and let hboot install it), and then root your phone anew. That's what I ended up doing.
Again, huge credit for this goes to -Steveo- and ciwrl for helping me figure out which partitions were the right ones (and for supplying parted, which I hadn't been able to find anywhere). If something doesn't end up working, just drop me a pm and we'll see what we can do.
And here it wont when i put command
Code:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkfs ext2
it say
Code:
Error: /dev/block/mmcblk0: unrecognised disk label
But when i do this
Code:
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk0
it say
Code:
Disk /dev/block/mmcblk0: 31.2 GB, 31268536320 bytes
4 heads, 16 sectors/track, 954240 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 64 * 512 = 32768 bytes
Disk /dev/block/mmcblk0 doesn't contain a valid partition table
I am sorry for bad english, but i really need help, i were searching the web for 10hours and nothing worked.. I need to full format sdcard, so could anyone help me?
Thanks
Please help someone, i need my phone

Partitioning FIND7 and TWRP

Hi, I have strange problem After installing lineageos my phone is almost dead.
Problem is I cannot access external SD card from TWRP. I did try to reinstall recovery using fastboot but now it gives error
Code:
c:\adb>fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-find7.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (10894 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.344s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: partition table doesn't exist)
finished. total time: 0.355s
After using partition recovery I am having linux icon in the middle, no recovery mode avalible. System boots but I get Encryption error message and reset your phone - where button does not work.
Any Idea how to fix this kind of problem or it is time to buy iphone?

Iphone? Never ...
Try this.
Edit:
Your device has LVM configured, isn't it? Prior to try to unbrick yo device perhaps you can try to do a full wipe in TWRP and then reflash LVM script
I have the same problem here.
Had CM13 with unified storage. I used coldbird method. I wiped my phone today, and tried to flash LineageOS' latest nightly. Now my Find 7a is stuck at boot screen with the Linux logo in the middle. I have more: After some investigations, I think all the partitions are now screwed. I managed to boot TWRP by runnind "fastboot boot twrp.3.0.2.0.img" and that displays, under storages, something like:
storage 0
storage 1
storage 2
...
storage 20
Recovery partition is missing so I can't flash a new recovery. System partition is there, same as data, and cache...but the phone does not boot.
I tried restoring my backup of coldbirds patition tool with:
adb push DRIVER /tmp
adb push fsc /tmp
adb push fsg /tmp
adb push grow /tmp
adb push LOGO /tmp
adb push misc /tmp
adb push persist /tmp
adb push reserve1 /tmp
adb push reserve2 /tmp
adb push reserve3 /tmp
adb push reserve4 /tmp
adb push ssd /tmp
adb shell
dd if=/tmp/DRIVER of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/DRIVER
dd if=/tmp/fsc of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fsc
dd if=/tmp/fsg of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fsg
dd if=/tmp/grow of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/grow
dd if=/tmp/LOGO of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/LOGO
dd if=/tmp/misc of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
dd if=/tmp/persist of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/persist
dd if=/tmp/reserve1 of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve1
dd if=/tmp/reserve2 of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve2
dd if=/tmp/reserve3 of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve3
dd if=/tmp/reserve4 of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve4
dd if=/tmp/ssd of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ssd
sync
sync
rm /tmp/*
exit
adb reboot
But nothing...when I try to run the swaplayout.bat script which is supposed to revert the unified storage, it does nothing (just reboots the phone...). Does it require the backup files? I read otherwise. Also, this shouldn't be a problem with the partitions layout anyway...I think Lineage OS didn't quite like the unified partitions and broke everything...
any help would be appreciated
