[Q] Mods for the 3 touch buttons? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have seen a mod where the icons on the bottom are completely different. It is pretty cool and seems to save the screen from burning the image.
Anyone know a tutorial or app that can help me with that? Dont really know how to word it.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Bootloader Unlocked, Rooted, 4.0.4 IMM76I
Thanks!

It's not that hard , use some kind of explorer .. uhm ... in this case i suggest Root Explorer. go to system/app find SystemUI.apk and extract it. now go to the sdcard/SpeedSoftware/Extracted/SystemUI/res. All images for the buttons are in drawable-xhdpi folder, find some on the Themes and Apps thread. thn just copy and paste them there. zip the SystemUI folder, rename it SystemUI.apk thn move it to system/app, but change Mount from r/w to r/o thn paste it there. PULL OUT THE BATTERY and it's done. Hope it helps

The answer is a very obvious no. You're altering framework, for which you need to have root access.

[Themed App] ICS Themed Gmail Application! (For Stock & Custom ROMs)

Ok guys so here it is, after a lot of trying to figure things out and a lot of testing, I think I've got a perfect gmail app. I have to give credit to fatsix, B-boy, and MM for their work on this apk. I have taken what they started and continued the modding. If you notice anything off let me know and I'll try to fix it. Although, my knowledge is still rather limited compared to some others on here. In any case, the screen shots are below (sorry in advance for blacking out most of my info):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are running a custom ROM, install the .zip below in CWM then reboot. Once rebooted the gmail app will force close, so simply go to your apps list and delete data and it should work fine!
As always, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone and make sure you make a back up!
If you like what you see, then please use the thanks button, then just flash this .zip in CWM and you should be good to go!

This is strange. I'm running on a stock rooted LTE 4.0.2 build and it works with no errors. Perhaps someone with more experience can shed some more light as to what the issue may be? I'm wondering if one of you guys give me your framework-res.apk and then I decompile and recompile the app using your framework if it will work? Can some of the more experienced xda-ers shed some light on this?
Now i see ure app is not odexed but our Roms are so we need odexed apps i think

Admire the effort taking for this but when I use it on 4.0.1 AR it tends to screw up and I lose my notification bar and softkeys. Good thing I have a backup of System.apk. Usually a deodexed SystemUI shouldn't have this issue. Am I missing something?

THESE ALSO WORK ON JELLY BEAN 4.1
(but it will only work the same way it does in ICS (dont expect this to become a 4.1 app just because you installed on JB)
These have quick emoji button feature optional in settings. No mms compression.
Use it if you like it. If you don't like it then your just not cool.
**If you prefer to have white incoming text, just download the file with WHT and the color you like in the name.
Installation
Using Root Explorer (or similar) navigate to system/app
Rename your Mms.apk file to Mms.apk.bak.
Copy new Mms.apk to system/app and set permissions
Enjoy this sweet themed app.
Removal
Since we didn't flash this in CWM and everyone followed the instructions above, you simply delete Mms.apk from system/app and rename Mms.apk.bak to Mms.apk. You are now using your sucky mms app again.

Okay tried it out. Looks fantastic and works well. Two points though can you change the contact names to white? Rather than keeping it all blue. As well, when you have a category with unread messages, the grey seems a bit much. Is there any way of changing that colour? But other than that, looks fantastic and will for sure be using it!

Looking for 4.3 AOSP keyboard w/ symbols on keys??

Hi all,
Between xda, Google, looking through different gapps packages and a few ROMs, Im sorry to say that I have had no luck finding this keyboard. Wth ?...righg
I can't believe it actually, you think it would be somewhat easy to find the apk. I guess iv just been looking in the wrong places.
I would really appreciate the help of the community to point me in the right direction to find this.
Again, it's the Android 4.3 keyboard with the symbols on the keys, so you u only have to hold down a key to get the popup of symbols.
Thank u all and I appreciate taking time to read.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Do you mean emoji? Or actual symbols? Check settings and then keyboard settings, see if the box for symbols is checked off. Mines looks like '?123' bottom left.

Hi all,
Between xda, Google, looking through different gapps packages and a few ROMs, Im sorry to say that I have had no luck finding this keyboard.
Thank u all and I appreciate taking time to read.

...if you're still considering installing it, here you are - use the 4.3 one extracted from Slim ROM
