I figured it out last night but thanks for the help though. Anyway dude, Im just wondering I have done a2sd already and my internal went down to 3mb, but whenever I install new apps it goes up again, I saw people with a lot of apps and have like 5mb on internal, how do I do that? I tried "a2sd cachesd" but to no avail. Any ideas on what to do?

Please can you confirm me if after the Rom Manager patition tool I should have 3,18gb of FAT32 or more?
I've done 0mb for the swap and 512bmb for the EXT
Am I missing some space?
Many thanks
Best regards
3.1 + .5 is close to right. Might be a bit low but not by more then 100 MB
Disk drives never have the right capacity because of formatting and companies use 1000 MB = 1 GB when it should be 1024
Thanks
I'm asking this beacause before I redid the partitions (the sd was already partitioned) with rom manager, I crearly remember that the fat32 was something like 3.66.
Is there any way or program to get the lost space back?

you havent lost any space, as the previous poster said, with a 4gig sd card, you dont get 4gig of useable space. because of the way its formatted and the block sizes you would probably get about 3.6 - 3.7gb of space on the card.....
Thanks you too mate for the help
One last noobish question
How can I install apps on the EXT partition ?

if your using a rom with apps2sd and have an ext partiton on your card, apps will automatically be installed to /system/sd/app/ (the ext partiton) so you dont need to do anything
Many thanks mate for the help
I'm currently on Leedroid 2.2d
Is there a free program to keep an eye on this partition free space ?
Leedroid have a2sd so you should be fine and "quick system info" is a great app for that purpose.
Okay this is really driving me crazy. I have a bunch of custom ROMs on my system and none of them recognize the ext3 (or ext4) partitions on my SD card. I know for a fact that all of them support the sd-ext partitions. (Obviously, I am doing this for A2SD usability)
I have MIUI 1.7.1, CM 7.0.3 and HiApk (with sensefun) v1.1.
I tried creating an ext3 partition in the beginning of the SD card like this,
400MB ext3 (primary) | 1.6GB fat32 (primary)
I tried doing it the other way round too, like this ->
1.6GB fat32 (primary) | 400MB ext3 (primary)
Neither works. I am using GParted on my Linuxbox to do this. What is the problem ? and how do I solve it ?
I have read quite a bit on all this and none of it is straightforward. Can someone explain it to me, like a 10year old ?
Go to into recovery and partition your sd card there.

I can show you how... check my signature... there`s two youtube guides.
One with Gparted, and one with Minitools.
Enjoy.
how do you know it is not working?
the EXT doesnt add up storage space in 'internal storage' in android settings
you have to use Quick System Info from android market to check if a2sd+ is working
and also
the correct partition layout is FAT32 and then (after fat) EXT partition not the other way.
also try with 512mb ext partition.
To see the ext partition, you can either connect your phone to linux or use an explorer which has root access.

Thank you people ! Yup, got the partition working. Also, thanks to dzumagos for the tip on how to see the ext partition space.

You'd have to have a [custom] hboot that had partition info set up like you wanted [to change system partition information]. Not an easy task. Doubtful it would ever come to fruition. Besides our devices have 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM (418 MB user-available). So allocating that all to system would be unwise. Now SD card partitioning... our device supports up to 32 gigs Those two you mentioned or Darktremor's Apps2sd are great tools for moving your apps or even dalvic vm to your sd card. You can partition your sd as you wish with the unofficial cwm recovery (under advanced options). I will try to port another recovery [4ext] in the future which is great for sd partitioning (data aligns everything; supports ext4). CWM is not too shabby though; give it a whirl. Hope that helps.

I've tried to make sd-ext with Rom Manager -> Make partitions on SD. I've shoose 512Mb (of 16Gb miscroSD) and 32Mb swap file. But still have 178Mb internal memmory.
What is wrong?
I used Minitool Partition Wizard (free) to split my SD 16Gb on Fat32 & ext4 512Mb. Works Fine! Link2SD identify external partirion.
cool
congrats. Just a suggestion... change your OP from [Q] to [Answered] even though you answered your own question. May help someone else.

data2sd not installing for me after i install i get a boot loop..
you need Apps2sd or Data2sd not both
The rom has Apps2sd... You want Data2sd. You will have to remove apps2sd support, then add data2sd support. Can't have both.

I wiped my SD card, partitioned it with a 512MB ext3 (via Amon RA), reflashed cyanogen 7.2 ...
I thought CM had 'built in' a2sd -> ext, but even after moving apps to SD, my ext partition is still totally empty!
It's actually moving my apps to .android_secure on the FAT partition!
And installing apps is filling up my internal memory ...
Do I need to enable ext usage in CM?
Help!
im not sure about cm, but i know in other roms iv used you had to use terminal and type the following:
su[ENTER]
a2sd reinstall[ENTER]
if your not sure you can always flash dt a2sd and do the above and go from there. Also... why only 512mb ext3 partition? i got a 32gb card and used a 3gb ext3 partition. i wanted to make sure i NEVER ran out of space for apps. I dont remember if i saw it there, did you upgrade your ext2 to an ext3 partition via AMON-RA? in case you need dt a2sd here is the link.

I see, thanks, didn't know had to 'activate' it.
But in the meantime, I installed S2E (from Market) – now my ext is filling up –*but my internal is still down to 83MB!
I think I figured it out -- it's my app data (/data/data 130MB) and dalvik cache (/data/dalvik-cache 107MB) that are still internal.
Hi,
I have upgraded from 2.3.7 to a JB MOD. I prepared my SD card in gparted with a 500mb FAT32 and the rest as EXT4. I have inserted the SD card and 'setting\storage' only sees the in built 150MB EXT and the 500MB FAT32 on the SD Card but no 3GB EXT4 partition. In terminal I ran a2sd install and on the reboot it said 'optimising' apps and I thought it was moving apps. However, when I install apps from the store they are installed on the in built RAM.
Using app2sd I can't move any apps I used to be able to on 2.3.7.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks
Paul

Here is your most likely scenario because it happened to me: If you created your partition on a PC, for some reason it doesn't work properly (well at least in my case). Then the phone doesn't read the SD card properly. What you should do is upgrade clockswork mod recovery on your phone to the most recent version and create the EXT version using the recovery console by booting into recovery.
Thanks

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I'll see what version I have. It is probably old as it is 15 months since I did the CM 7 install to my phone.
Paul
it should be 500mb ext4 and the rest fat 32, also 1gb ext4 is recommended and dont use ClockWorkMod recovery to partition sdcard, use 4ext recovery instead. CWM makes bad partitions
Sent from my HTC Desire
Is there a specific way around?

Hi,
I read the FAT32 should be first and the EXT4 the rest. Is that correct?

I've redone my card (3GB FAT32/500MB EXT4) but my in built memory seems to run out of space for apps quickly. I thought the SD-Card EXT4 partition was supposed to add more space for apps to the phone.
Is this not true?

Hi,
I am using Elk759 JB ROM. I did run the a2sd in terminal after redoing the partitions. It reboots and says optimising apps 1/...79 (whatever number). I can't tell if it has moved anything onto the EXT4 partition of my SD card.
I will boot into a live linux and take a look on that partition.
If it isn't working is there anything I can do?
Thanks
Paul
That seems to have worked as I've installed loads of apps and it hasn't complained about space.
Thanks for all your help.
