I have a Vodafone UK set, non-rooted, which will not play any music, phonecalls, ringtones, alarms etc through the loudspeaker. The ear speaker works fine for phonecalls and headphones work fine for music
The media, alarm and ringtone volume is up on maximum but it just wont play any noise out loud at all.
I have turned off and on the phone and still have the same issue.
I am on firmware 1.28.161.9
Any help much appreciated!
looks like a hardware fault. if i tap or hold the bak of the phone firmly (ie. try to press the screen towards the back of the phone) then the sound comes back on. when i let go it vanishes.
so basicly to get sound i would have to walk about pressing the phone together lol
will take it back to them tomorrow to get a replacement handset - lame.....
Sounds like a Hardware fault as i had one. Try to softly press the back near the speaker to regain contact between the speaker and the board. Had to swap my Device for Warranty. The One X is of poor build quality
Had this happen to my last phone htc desire send it back mate

Hi,
About seven days ago, the sound of my phone (mic and speaker) disappeared completely (ringtone and beeps etc. are still working). When I call someone, or I am being called I hear nothing. Neither does the other side.
Strange thing is:
- the phone-sound DOES work through my bluetooth headset (so I CAN make/receives calls, using the set)
- the phone-sound DOES work through the device itself when it is on external power! The moment I disconnect the external power, the sound (from mic and speaker) disappeares.
Other strang thing: when I press some (software) buttons in de phone application during the call, the beeps can be heared on the other side (so I can send you an SOS !).
Someone any ideas?
Or do I just have to send it in for repair?
(Allready tried:
- soft reset
- hard reset
- turn bluetooth on/off/on
- downgrade to former ROM (from 1.40 back to 1.22)
)
Thank you in advance,
Frank
I have roughly the same problem with my old jam.Since I have got a vpa but would still like to get my jam working. My problem is that I can't hear them, they can hear me though, but when i put speaker phone on i can hear them fine. All other sounds work fine and tones etc just speaking on the phone without loudspeaker on....funny
In my case, I can't hear them, and they can't hear me.
AND: the speakerphone doesn't work.
The speakerphone DOES work when my phone is on external power.
It seems our problems are slightly different.
Dont flame me if i am wrong and teaching you to suck sour eggs, but in the phone app under handfree preferences have you got the use headset option checked? if so is it not purely that the voice is going to you BT headset as it is in range whilst you yoursellf are not realising this is the case?
just a thought as from the syptoms you describe this looks like the most likely reason.
but feel free to tell me it aint so
Is there a way of lowering the speaker volume?
When I am on a call, despite having the volume set to the minimum, it is still too loud.
Anything I can do?
Same for me here. If anyone knows a way please let us know
Have you guys actually lowered the phone volume to minimum, or the PDA volume by mistake, there are two sliders, if I set the phone to minimum you cannot hear a thing! - or when answering a call are you holding the answer button too long causing the phone to use Speaker phone volume - Mike
My Orbit is the same,
Same Problem here.
I set the speaker volume while talking to minimum and it stays too loud.
Hi!
I have the same problem.... unfortunately it can not be solve, with the volume level setting..
I have the HTC P3300 and have no problem with the volume however would love to increase it a bit louder. Is there a tweak for this?
Thanks,
In call speaker volume is to loud also
I've got the same problem. Eventhough I set call volume to minimum the speaker is much to load. Any of you found a solution to this problem?
Same here....volume way to amplified
I have the same problem,
One minute my phone was fine - sounded great, 5 minutes later when I used it again the "In-Call" volume and "Speaker" volume are WAY to loud.
Anybody got a clue as to why this is happening and how to fix it, its driving me mad!
(I hope this is a software fault and not hardware)
Thanks,
Fakiee

Ok so the phone was still in warrenty. T-mobile sent an RMA bag (RM special delivery) for me to send the phone to their repairs:
http://www.sbe-ltd.co.uk/
I sent the phone and reported the problem as "in-call speaker distorted". The repair was made and completed the next day (yesterday) then sent back via special delivery so my phone should arrive back today.
I doubt SBE have fixed the problem. They most likely watched the phone turn on then sent it back. But we will see. If they have not fixed it I will be replacing the "in-call" speaker myself. I will post the guide here if it solves the problem.
MDa II "in-call" speaker FIXED
SBE returned the phone and completed the repair. Im assuming all they did is replace the "in call" speaker. For those who cannot RMA the phone I suggest a search for MDA III internal speaker on the bay then follow the dissasembly guide and replace.
Hope this helps!
Volume still too loud
UPDATE
After the unit was RMA'd i realised that infact they had not fixed the problem. The ring and incall volume is still WAY to loud.
When I recieve a call i have the incall speaker (when you have the handset next to your head/ear) set to the lowest setting and the sound is almost defening, if i have it on the highest setting it distorts the speaker and is inaudiable.
This is a problem with the phones hardware or software and not the wrong settings. Can anyone please help, is their a registry setting for general volume settings that can be adjusted?
Thanks for your help,
Andy.
I had the same issue, but this was after i had tampered with the registry settings to increase the volume on the wired earphones. It is a fine balance! Suggest re-installing the OS to get back to deault settings if you have been in the registry
Hi guys. Untill today i was using my BA without no problem. I use WM 6.5-R5 when someone call me the phone ringing and i can hear the sound coming from the speaker, but when i answer it there is no sound from the speaker. when i try to play an mp3 there is no sound too. when i call someone there is no sound i can not hear the dial tone or the persons voice. the speaker works only when receiving a call and there is only ringing sound. it happens suddenly. it was working very normal untill today. i just flash the rom and there is no change still no sound. what is the problem? does anybody know?
1. check the system volume in the task bar, maybe the right bar is up and the left one is down, that would cause that the only sound you can hear is your ringtone, and nothing else
2. if that is the case try putting the left one up, if that works and there is still no sound, check again, maybe it lowered itself, in that case, re-flash your device (occured to me once)
3. if both points aren't applicable, look up the settings for sounds & notifications (very unlikely)
i personally believe it is no. 2, as i had that issue myself just a few weeks ago.
i checked everything about sound but nothing changed, then suddenly it come back to normal :S now there is no problem thanks anyway
I rarely make calls in my car, so I do not know if this was much of an issue on my older head unit*, or if it was a symptom prior to root.
I have a new unit from Pumpkin - MTC8-KLD6-V2.81
Rooted with Malaysk's latest ROM
My phone (HTC M8) is connected through bluetooth. Music plays just fine through the system.
When I make a call, however;
1) Music Stops and head unit goes silent (not a problem)
2) I hear a bit of static (I have had low volume static since I upgraded to Malaysk if the head unit is on and nothing is playing)(again, not really a problem)
3) Phone starts to make a call.
4) Static suddenly goes away, as if the volume was suddenly turned down
5) I can barely hear the phone ring through the head unit.
I have tried turning up the volume all the way on the phone (volume on the phone seems to do nothing when in a bluetooth call) and turning up the head unit. If I have the head unit all the way up, I CAN hear reasonably well, but that's at a volume of 30 when everything else plays loud enough at 5.
I have looked for different setting on the phone and on the head unit and have found nothing. I have adjusted the Factory Settings -> Audio, but that changes bluetooth as a whole and make the music play too loud.
I would say that the issue is is similar to switching the phone from "regular" (where 1-10 is set for being near one's ear) to "speaker" (where 1-10 can be heard across the room) and the phone is telling the head unit to stay at "regular".
Actually, on my first head unit the problem was just the opposite and phone calls were always way too loud.
Anyone have ideas on other settings I should try?
Thanks
I think there are options in the factory settings are for individual volume controls.

There are, but the option is for "Bluetooth" in general.
Bluetooth itself is fine, and I can listen to music from my phone through Bluetooth at whatever level I choose. The problem is that when it switches to phone (dialing out or coming in) the volume drops drastically and I have to turn the head unit's volume up all the way to hear at all. That means the music from Bluetooth will come back at speaker (or at least ear) damaging levels once the call ends.
If adjusting the BT volume is not enough, test with others volume settings lowering/raising some of them.
the norm is the hands free on these units are not the best and there are some mods out there on the forum..
I have been having low in-call volume for about a month. (LG G3 D856)
The earpiece plays loud enough when listening to voice messages on Telegram/WhatsApp but during the call it's too low
I have tried installing custom ROM, downgrading to official KitKat with full wipe. No way.
Can anyone help with it. I am quite sure its a software issue as on other apps the earpiece functions quite well.
P.S. I habe already tried turning on/off Voice Clearity, Voice Enhancement. No change
Hope someone can help with it
I had similar problems with my wife phone d855, and also few HTC old phones. It looks like combination of dust and all other things that has a contact with that part of phone completely fill small net on ear speaker.
This usually helps:
Use old toothbrush, put few drop of alcohol on it and gently tapping on net. Keep tapping minute or two. You will see results..
Advice: disassemble whole phone, and remove speaker to avoid broking speaker, but not necessarily.
In my situations, I get over 200% louder sound. Almost unbelievable..
