Hello,
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere but I am a noob to this site. I have looked -promise!
Basically I have had an XDA Orbit on O2 UK which I have had for over a year with no problems. Recently I changed contracts but kept the same phone and O2 sent me a new 3G sim card.
Now when using the device for a long time (such as wi-fi, reading a book in Microsoft Reader, making a call) the phone will lose the phone signal and slow down. If left it will sometimes recover and get a signal again, or sometimes it keeps searching for a signal for a few minutes and then resets itself.
Sometimes when it is searching for a signal the top area of the phone gets warm.
I have tried a hard reset but this has not solved the problem. Is this to do with the 3G sim card? Should I try upgrading the ROM of the radio stack? Or would an entirely new ROM help?
The version details at startup are:
IPL 3.04.0001
SPL 3.04.0000
GSM 02.67.90
OS 3.4.0.0
Please help. Thank you.
Try to upgrade your Radio ROM. That can be a good solution.
Cheers
Thanks -I will try that tonight.
Ok I have updated the radio ROM and I still get the same problem. It will be fine for a bit but then the phone will lose signal, keep searching, and eventually reset itself.
Would using an entirely new ROM help or is the fact that this was not fixed by updating the radio ROM indicate that is this more of a hardware problem?
The details at startup now look like this:
IPL 3.04.0001
SPL 1.11.0000
GSM 03.21.90
OS 3.4.0.0
Thank you.
Yes... That looks like a hardware problem to me, since you upgrade your Radio ROM.
But for a last test you can flash a WM6.1 ROM and see if the problem is the same.
If it maintains then is surelly a hardware problem.
Cheers
I don't usually post on these forums but have been a reader for some time!
There are some things you need to know about 3G before you use this handset with this sim!
it's against your terms and conditions to use a none 3G handset with your sim 3 can and will cut your number off (ive seen it happen)
secondly 3 only have 3G netowrks they use orange's masts for when customers drop out of signal range to 2g. Hence your using orange masts which take it from me are rubbish! they have some of the worst reception in the country and ive only recently stopped selling mobile phones i doubt they changed much in 6 months!
to cut it short you need a 3G phone to go with your 3G sim im afraid this handset is not capable of 3G .
Hi thanks, for your comments.
I am not using a 3 sim card, it is an O2 3G sim card. I have tried today to reflash the O2 UK ROM image with the original settings to see if this helps but it still spends a long time without a signal and resets itself when it cannot get a signal for a while.
Is anyone else using a 3G sim card in this phone?
It worked well enough for me today to ring O2 and ask them if I could be "downgraded" to a 2G sim card. They said that they don't even do 2G sim cards anymore, but they said if I go to O2 store they may have a 2G pay as you go sim, and instead of activating it they could transfer my account details over to it. Anyone heard of that before?
When I went to the shop they said they didn't have any 2G sims and to reset the phone and try to get the settings sent to the phone from O2 online. Which I have done but surprise surprise no luck -not that I really believed the guy in the shop anyway but thought it was worth a try.
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks.
Just to update, I have tried so many different things to get this fixed but it seems as though the 3G sim card is not the problem, as all fixed now by buying a replacement battery.
Now the phone works fine all of the time -it does not lose signal or anything. The old battery must have been faulty.
I do not know the exact fault but my guess is that when I turned the phone on at startup it was ok, but then as soon as I did anything it was drawing more current/amps from the battery it generated a fault which then made the phone lose signal and eventually reset.
I'm not sure on the science of it all exactly but it buying a new battery on ebay for £7 has certainly fixed the problem.
The Orbit/Artemis works fine with a 3G USIM -they are backwards compatible with a 2G SIM card and this obviously was not the problem.
Hi.
I have a similar problem... my o2 xda orbit for the last few days keeps hanging and reseting. It takes some time for me to be able to turn it on again.
even if i take out the battery and put it back in again...
Is this similar to what happened to you?

I think that I had the same problem but with a normal 2g sim. After an
intensive use over 1,5 years my Artemis p3300 had low signal and frquently resetting. I resolve all these problems changing the battery with a new one. It's important advise all Artemis owners that a lot of problems can be due to an old battery!
Yes that's basically exactly what happened to me. It would lose signal, keep searching then eventually reset. When I turned it back on it would still not have a signal and would take lots of times of turning it on and off before it would settle down again.
I bought a new battery from ebay for £4.95 (+£2.95 p&p) and now everything is working fine and has been for over a couple of weeks.
I had tried changing the ROM and still had the same problem. I would advise you to get a new battery and try that.
Hi, I am from CZ... - P3300 by Vodafone CZ
When I connect to wifi I sometimes lose the signal for phone.. One time I lose signal during the phoning and sometimes I lose signal when I use GPS...
Phone is 1,6 years old...
It is the same problem, isn't it?
It's a pity :-(
Can you give me an advice where I can buy the best battery? Should I buy a battery in CZ (home) or in abroad I can find cheaper and better??
(sorry about my english)
Yes that sounds like the same problem to me, I got a new battery from ebay because I thought it would probably be cheapest.
Try Vodafone first as they will be able to sell you a new battery and it may not be too expensive.
Are any of you guys having any drop call issues? My SG2 shows 4 full bars of reception while on a call and the call goes silent for a few seconds before it drops. It does this at home, on the road and at work.
Funny story…last night while driving home from work, I kept the screen lit and talked on the phone using my jawbone Bluetooth. I watched the bars drop down to 1 even 0 at one point yet the call never dropped that time. Isn’t that ironic
Unfortunately for me, all of these areas I have trouble are dead in the middle of excellent tmobile 4G coverage. My old phones never had this issue (HTC Sensation, iphone 4 etc)in these same exact areas.
So far, I’ve spoken with 611 & had the local TMO store replace my sim card but the phone still drops calls.
Would hate to have to exchange it for a new one but it looks as if I have no choice. Are any of you guys having any reception issues? If so please use this space to talk about it
EDIT
In case anyone asks, I'm using the original sim card that came with the phone. TMO store also pulled another SG2 sim card out for me to swap last night but so far the problem still persists
it could be software related, or it might very well be a hardware issue
are you still on stock, or have you flashed anything yet?

I'm still running my stock rom. Sunday Night, I flashed the Odin root on the stock rom and ran that for two days. Afterwards I uninstalled the Odin root and went back to stock when I discovered the call drop issues in fear I'd have to return my phone back to the store.
Its been two days back on the stock unrooted rom and I'm still noticing the same reception issues.
For the root, I followed the instructions in this thread.
To unroot, I followed these instructions.
Everything went well in fact I'm using Galaxy S2 right now. Do you guys think this root could be the cause of my reception issue?
I Just took my phone back to stock, locked bootloader state and that still did not work.
No amount off turning data on/off works and neither does switching from CDMA/LTE to CDMA.
Is there a number like *228 that i can call to try reactivating it?
Is there anything I can do short of taking it back?
and my wifes incredible 2 can connect to the 3G.
Have you taken the SIM out and booted the phone up without it and then powered it back down and then put the SIM back and powered it backup to see if that does it?

nope, but i will.
EDIT: Nothing.
powered down, simcard out, power on, powered off, simcard in, powered on.
Simcard out I was actually NOT on any network at 0dbm. Simcard in it says i am on a network, with signal of 120dbm...
booo
I sure hope these **** third party retailers have one still.
It takes a minute to connect sometimes...give it time ..toggle wifi helps.

Not once has it connected to 3G.
Am I really the only person with this problem?
crap.
You aren't the only one...I had to return mine. I hope they get their head out of their anatomy & fix their radio/signal strength issue. When they get it fixed I will get another one, but I didn't want to risk my return window ending before they get it straight.

This just started happening to me on my 20th day of having the phone...after over 2 hours sitting in the Verizon store yesterday they told me that a maintenance release was expected to be pushed out the end of January that "SHOULD" address this exact issue. Other than that they told me I was SOL.
So I am now carrying around a brick that is less than 30 days old. I am starting to wish I didn't trade in the Rezound I was borrowing until the nexus came out.
This happened to me 2 days ago. It is still not fixed.
I can connect to V's 4G, but when I toggle to CDMA, I get gray bars-no data connection.
I don't know if my 3G antennae got fried or what, but is there a way to reset it?
My Galaxy Nexus is rooted/unlocked but no ROMs.
I don't remember messing around with the radio.
I have tried rebooting, wifi-toggle, airplane mode toggle.
I have not tried flashing 4.0.2.
I have not tried removing the SIM card then turning it on.
I have not tried doing a factory reset.
Any suggestions?
I had this exact problem two days ago as well. I went to the Verizon store and the only thing they tried that worked was giving me a new SIM card. Try a new card. Why mine stopped working for 3G data I do not know.

I don't think it'll connect to any network if the sim card is out of the phone, its possible you have a bad sim card.

I do not have anything real helpful, but I can tell you that flashing 4.0.2, doing a factory reset, relocking the phone, or swapping out the SIM card does not help this situation.
Just out of curiosity...What method did you use to unlock your phone? I am just wondering if its a certain method of unlocking that is causing this issue. I am unaware of anyone having this problem that has not unlocked their phone.
I've got a GSM not CDMA version but I got 2 phones from different places. The first lasted 3 days before it stopped connecting to my network. It went back under warranty and was acknowledged there was a problem - awaiting return, it's being repaired now.
My second one had lasted around 3 weeks and is now doing the same thing. I'll be taking this one back as well.
My sim works perfectly fine in all my other phones (HTC's and iPhone's) so that can't be the problem.
First phone was unlocked and custom ROM loaded. Second one is as per factory, hasn't been touched so IMO it can't be related to any "customization".
IMO Samsung/Google should have waited another month and sorted these issues out before releasing the phone. I won't be buying another Samsung phone after this one
It just started happening to me a couple days ago. It was working fine. When I'm on wifi for a extended period and switch to 3G it won't connect. But I can connect to 4G. If I reboot the phone it will connect to 3G.

I have had similar issue.
Powering phone off did not help. For whatever reason, pulling the battery reset my data connection.
Its happened twice as of today.

The same thing is happening to me. If im on wifi for a long time and try to go to 3g, i just get the 3g signal with gray bars and no data connection. The only way i can get it to work is by rebooting my phone. Im running bugless beast, which is a stock rom, but i dont think it has anything to do with it.
this just happened to me today. yesterday 3g was fine now nothing. and with lte constantly dropping this is just a glorified "stupid" phone. i contacted samsung support and they said i need to contact carrier. i reverted to stock and flashed stock recovery and locked phone and still no luck. rebooting and removing sim does nothing. we got screwed with an inferior product
I was experiencing these problems all day yesterday. No 3g, only 4g. Reverted to stock and tried everything listed in this thread with no success of gaining a 3g connection.
However, i looked at my phone this morning and i have 3g connectivity again. I'm going to assume there was some maintenance going on because it hasnt dropped since being awake
Hi and thanks for any help that you can provide me.
I bought an Galaxy Note 2 SGH-T889 Tmobile version like 7 months ago from a store or reseller in Toronto Canada, the phone was in theory factory unlock, to use with the Wnmobile network which uses the same frequency as Tmobile. The phone was working until 2 days ago. Well always the phone has issue connecting to the network in some specific areas, specially because the Wind network it's not that good, but during the last 2 weeks I noticed more and more problems and some times it was just disconnected showing a circle with an slash or crossed out. After reboot the phone usually fixed the problem, until 2 days ago I had to do it every 2 hours and then the next day it just was permanent. I tried everything so far:
Remove battery and reboot
Remove battery and SIM card and reboot
Use a diiferent SIM card from my son's phone
Replace for a new SIM card
Clear Cache
Factory Reset
Reflash the modem with Odin
The phone has the latest stock ROM 4.1.2, BASE T889UVBMD1
The problem is Samsung say because it's a Tmobile they can not support it here, I have to send the phone to Samsung USA, I still fighting with the store because they said it will be covered locally, but that is another story.
I red many post talking about similar problems with the Galaxy S3 or S4 and one said that installing Jedi X14 fixed the problem, but to do that I think I have to root the phone, which not be a big problem.
The other weird thing is the phone works using other SIM card GSM, not tested with a LTE SIM.
There is any way to test if the radio/antenna for the WCMDA is disabled or broken
Thanks

If the phone is working fine with a friends sim card . There is nothing more then a issue with your sim. go to the store and have them to give you a new sim card or flash the one you have. I had that issue similar here with at&t all the time.. sims would just loose network.. The fix for me LEAVE AT&T
Good luck.
Yes, I replaced the SIM card and I got a new one.
Just trying to eliminate all the options, I just did a factory reset again, and put it back the SIM card, located outside in an area where I know there is a strong signal and the phone was able to connect to the network and I install the account ans the apps just to test the data connection and it works fine. I was outside for 20 minutes with no problem. Later go back in the building, as soon I was inside for a few minutes the phone lose connection and the circle is back, then reboot again several times, and the phone does not recognize any network, Searching and no network is available.
Aww you left out that it only does this inside but works outside.. I Would say something is blocking the signal. LIKE maybe the building..
i have two bars in my house 3 on the deck and full signal in my yard ...
its just how it is..

But he said it was working in side for many month then all a sudden it doesn't work? I understand I live in a mobile home and reception sucks but that from the start but his was working for couple months. I would say he's phone reception receiver w/e it is or something in the phone is screwing up and it will need repairment or replace or service just taking a dump and getting worse.

You could be right.. or maybe even the provider having issues with that tower .. its a tough thing to figure out..
Thanks for your ideas.
I get tired of trying to figure out was is the problem, so I got a SIM card from a diiferent provider which has the best network coverage and power, and i'ts happending the same, the majority of th etime the strength level is around -110 db even outside, with both providers, so it's the phone.
Now the question is could be possible that the antenna cable got disconnected or broken, (yes I dropped the phone a few times but nothing major) and it was working fine until few days ago. Another option it's some internal hardware is not working normally.
Now I have to find a way to repair becasue Samsung Canada does not want to do it becasue its a Tmobile phone.
Thanks, again.

Anybody with same provider as you? Invite them in you're home see if they have connection. It's best if the person have same phone and same company. Can you send directly to Samsung? I have bad phone service my area with s2 and note 2 but my friend with evo 3d has more bar then me and its made by htc but could be two things ur phone crapping out on you which need repairment or like the guy above said tower signal getting weaker. It is hard to find out. Maybe for now for a bit since it's screw up try a rom but then again rom doesn't control radio settings section but wouldn't harm. Good luck.
I'm having the same issue since last month... but with any SIM card.
The network signal strengh rests between -89 to -110 dBm. (Horrible)
The network type is always UNKNOWN:0.
What I already tried:
- Using other SIM.
- Flashing Stock ROM
- Flashing Custom ROM (CM 10.1)
- Flashing all 5 avaliable modems.
What happens:
When I get VERY close to a network antenna... I can make calls and stuff...
What can be happening:
Hardware issues - T-Mobile latest LTE unlocking update maybe burned my antenna (or some network signal related hardware).
Software issues - Can't see how since I used many variations of ROM/Modem.
I live in Brazil and my network is TIM 47. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II T889.
If anyone can confirm perfectly to me what composes the T889 antenna components... that would be nice...
I want to buy those parts from eBay and trying fixing my phone.
Thanks for your feedback it's really valuable becasue it's almost the same situation. Today I cleared up the situation with Samsung, if I want to be service under the warranty I have to bring the phone to one of repair centres in USA which it's kind of problem because I can do it only in the weekends but not impossible or what I'm doing tomorrow is to have an assessment by one of the repair centres in Toronto and I have to pay in this case, if it's something reasonable.
In my case I did not update the phone in 2 months at least so it's not software in my case, but one difference could be I got a new job 3 months ago, in my previous job the majority of the time I got 5 bars , I guess the cell tower was close to that place, and in my house the coverage it's good. In my new job, my office it's in the middle of the building, far from the windows, so the signal always was really bad, 0-1 bar.
Wondering if could be possible that a bad connection can burn the antenna or the circuit that controls the connection.
The other thing is there are many customers specially for the Galay S4 complaining about a similar problem, and I did not find any answer on how to fix this problem.
I'll post any update just in case it can help someone else.
Thanks.

A also have this problem with T-Mobile Note 2 and have already tried everything you guys have...I guess I got no choice but to request a replacement which sucks because my phone was pristine and worked perfectly otherwise. It's just the damn weak to no signal that's driving me crazy. Especially since I'm paying for premium data coverage and it's pretty much money in the trash every month.
That's it. I made the call and the replacement arrives in a couple days. They offered me the "jump" program. Anyone on that? Is that worth doing on T-Mobile?
I traded an unlocked i317m for a g pro. I just picked up a unlocked t889 as welll. The person with my old i317m want my t889 since hes using simple mobile. Problem is when I went to trade I put his sim in my t899 it wont register on tmobile. Seems its only working with at&t as thats the service I have. Now with the i317m I gave him originally it works with any sim. How is this possible that a unlocked tmobile t889 wont register with his sim on tmobile network but the unlocked i317m works with any sim?
Yesterday I replaced the microUSB module that is connected with the antenna and replaced the SIM card module too.
That did NOT worked.
So... the problems is problably on the mainboard/chipset... too expensive to fix.
Another big hardware failure for Samsung's history.
I've had the replacement for about a week now. So far no signal problems. It's like when I first got my original phone. I'm sticking with the note 2 for at least another 6 months since I joined the jump program. Can't wait to see the note 3 next week
Update just to close this case
Well, after I sent the phone for repair to Samsung USA, I got it back and the problems happened again after a few days, then I sent it back for the second time to Samsung, got it back and the problem happened again after a few weeks. Basically, I'm getting rid of this phone, now the warranty is already expired and half of the time the phone was full of problems with the network.
The lesson in this case is to avoid getting hardware from the first batch (to wait a few months after the launch) or without a long term warranty (3 years), and probably will be my last Samsung device.

You mean Note 4, no?
Is anyone else having radio issues with their G-pro? AT&T model here and have been having very obnoxious issues with this device. I'm familiar with the common issues of losing 3g or 4g data while in buildings and such and have always had issues with my phones while in buildings but this phone is by far the worst so far. I'm not sure if it is only a network issue or this specific phone but I can barely get it to send and receive sms inside my house. MMS, forget about it. Calls get dropped immediately when I try to make them at home, etc... Last night I was driving home and on a phone call. Over the course of the 3 hour drive I got dropped at least a dozen times. I've never had these issues with a phone. Any suggestions? Should I try to get a warranty replacement or is this normal?
Could it be your SIM card? I have only had my phone for a week and haven't had problems getting a signal. However, on my old Galaxy Note, I had a similar issue and the SIM was to blame. Have you tried turning your phone off, taking out the SIM and reinserting it to make sure it's in there fully? You could also try cleaning the contacts (the gold part on the back of the SIM).
BTW...was reading your signature and had to LOL at the part about the Nokia Lumia. I tried a Lumia and only made it a month before Android withdrawals set in--so I sold it to help pay for my OG Pro.
Haha, yeah. I liked a lot about the Windows phone but just couldn't stick with it. I'm Android through and through!!!
I'll give that a shot or maybe get into the store and get a new SIM card today. Thanks for the suggestion!
Anyone....anyone...? Bueller....Bueller...?
Swapped the SIM and didn't fix anything. Wondering if it is an issue with the phone itself.
