Question about HTC Desire MIUI versions and radio upgrade - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I have a DHD with MIUI 2.323 (Gingerbread) on, with android version 2.3.7.
I was wondering if ICS (a stable version) is possible to get as the updates have stopped for GB. I went to the U.K MIUI website and the latest ROMS for MIUI ICS seem to not be available for DHD.
Also, the current radio version I have is:
"Release
October 2010: Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M - HTC WWE 1.32.405.6
Radio.img MD5 Checksum: 989501d06389d212143b491c14724c05"
Is it worth upgrading to the latest one found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295&highlight=radio? What benefits are gained from upgrading the radio version?
Any help is very much appreciated!

I'm in the middle of nowhere as far as cell towers, and the latest radio bumped me from 2G to full HSDPA.
That said Orange still only gives me 2G, but the T-Mobile mast gives me HSDPA.
In addition, my wifi range has been extended considerably.
Hope this helps

And no, it is not stable as it runs on ICS.
Since every device has its own unique build with different countries and telcos, you have to test it yourself. But as mentioned above, it really has noticeable wifi improved performance. It also has better battery life.

Telus HTC Hero

Hello,
Im new to the community as I just got my first android phone a few days ago. I have just a few quick questions:
First is GSM the same as hspa? all the roms seem to say GSM, but I am on the new to canada HSPA network, with a sim card.
I have rooted my phone using this guide "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581981" and am wondering if this can be undone if I need it to be? or is there a rom that is the same as the original floating around? i'm only asking because since rooting with this method it seems that I've lost battery life, I'm going to try some other roms, but that takes me to my first question.
As well are there any Roms that are just HTC releases for Android 2.0, 2.0.1, or 2.1 that are not modified anywhere.
Last question, I originally had radio: 63.18.55.06DAU_6.35.08.20 whats the differences between the radios.
Thanks in advance,
AZ
Im also on Telus using a Telus branded Hero. Try using the IU radio if you are not on the stock radio anymore. As for rom, try MCR 3.1. Its fast!!
my two cents
JU is newer, and i believe it's required to run the eclair/flan builds, and seems just as stable as IU in the cupcake builds.
@AbsoluteZero:
GSM is the same as HSPA, yes.
And yes, you can undo the rooting procedure by installing an official update from your carrier. However, Telus doesn't have any updates available yet, as they've only had the phone for a couple months. There may be custom way to undo the rooting without your carrier's ROM, but if I were to unroot I think I would just wait for the official Telus update. Once you're on an updated radio, Modoco's ROM is great. There are threads in some of the other Hero forums about the Telus Hero, lots of questions are answered there if you have any problems with your rooted phone.
As far as battery life is concerned, I recommend putting the Modaco 3.0 ROM on your phone, it'll probably help. It's good for me on 2.9.

I also have an unlocked Telus branded Hero which I am using on Rogers. I am using radio 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 with no problems. EDGE/3G/and HSPA all work. Also WiFi and BlueTooth work great.
I'm not sure if the Hero has all the HSPA bands that Rogers has, but in urban areas I have no signal issues. I have been using this radio w/MoDaCo 3.0 for over a month now.
Is there a way I can tell if I am currently connected to a 850 tower or 1900 tower?

1.21.405.2 rom Radio much of an improvement?

Hi all,
I'm just trying to get a feel for the how much of a boost the radio included with the "RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe" rom will give me over the one included with the "RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe" ROM - I flashed my Orange desire to this generic rom when I first obtained the phone.
Sincemy handset is an Orange debranded one, I believe can't accept the currently waiting OTA update without disabling Wi-Fi. I'ts also my understanding that flashing to the newer stock rom will update my radio and force me to unlock the phone.
I don't mind getting an unlock code (since I'll sell the phone on eventually) but I'd rather not bother unless it'll give me a decent performance boost.
Any other Pros/cons to upgrading the rom? (I hear some htc widgets are missing but memory is improved).
Thanks for any responses.

Could this be why it's taken so long to release? Is it a newer version?

That radio has been around since the 24th of last month.
Hola,
I've been told if i update to the telstra froyo i'll not be able to re-root my phone afterwards, is this true, or is someone pulling my leg?

May be because telstra uses 850mhz band for it's 3g and every one else used 900/2100mhz in Australia.
Moved to General as not development

Thanks for that I had a feeling I was posting in the incorrect forum.
Hey there. Thanks for the heads up.
Downloading now.
BTW. Why would you want to flash this if you're rooting anyway? Isn't this just for the less adept?
Is this a Telstra branded ROM or a generic ROM for Telstra phones?
Anyone else perform the update? Any issues?
It's the official update from Telstra so yes it is a Telstra branded ROM and as such it does come with Telstra's bloatware.
Got it. Upgraded my phone. No issues so far. It didn't pick up the AT&T APN information automatically so I had to enter it manually. This did screw up the setup of the phone since it couldn't connect to the internet. It suggested that WiFi could be substituted for the standard data connection, but it couldn't connect to my WiFi router. After skipping through the setup, establishing the AT&T APN information, it completed the data connection and I was also able to connect to my WiFi router without issue.
The only outstanding issue is with the dates displayed on some apps. While I have set the default to be USA standard, some apps report the date in the European standard. One app, TripIt, reports some trips in USA standard while others are in the European standard. This doesn't appear to be a Froyo issue, but rather an app issue -- as reported by others.
I don't notice much speed improvement except for web browsing. All in all, a very successful upgrade.

Q: Why flash new radio?

Hi all,
i have simple quest, if i flast radio to newer version what positive changet it comes?
I have in my WF CyanogenMod 7.1.0 Rc and 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31 radio.
Gps are work etc ll is good. I found that neweat radio is version 3.35.20.10?
So can somone answer, need i flast that?
Or is all radios flash only when have gps problems etc?
Cheers,
with new radio there is shorter time to "catch" gps signal...
different radios can potentially improve signal strength, battery life etc.
Hi all
I have the same question.
I was on Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 the updated to cm 7.1 after the update i have noticed that the signal strength isn't as usual (stock 2.2 & cm 7.0.3).
and i live in a weak signal area, my phone goes out off coverage, and when i go to an area where there is a good coverage, the phone don't get the signal back unless i go to airplane mode the to normal again.
will flashing a new radio fix these problems??
and are radios differnet from a country or a region to another?
now am on version: 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
is there a newer version??
thanks in advance .
just re-flast the 20.10 version again. it will help

Flashing a more Euro-centric radio?

Here is my situation:
I'm currently stationed in Europe, Poland to be specific. I use my Inc2 in GSM mode with a local carrier. After rooting and flashing CM7 for the first time, I noticed my reception getting significantly worse than before (And if not, it's pretty **** in the first place.)
I an attempt to remedy this, I flashed the newest .1111 radio from the Inc2 Development forums, unfortunately that not only didn't help - but resulted in a ~10db drop in my reception.
I figure that the "newest, bestest" radios (released by Verizon, correct?) are only there to improve reception within the United States, and a fellow like myself - looking to get the best possible reception within Europe - should start looking for an alternative.
I'm hoping somebody here will have had some experience with maximizing reception in Europe.

Custom Roms have different behaviors when it comes to GSM according to each Rom
try flashing another Rom , i suggest :
Andybones stock ( Based on the Latest OTA ) , it is not de-bloated , Note that latest OTA originally included the Radio you installed 1111
rmk sense ( the first release from Verizon ) and it is de-bloated
Both of the above Roms are Original Rooted firmware
do a super wipe before installing the Rom
choose GSM Only mode ( not the global mode )
if signal don't improve try
adding your carrier APN through APN settings manually
or you can Backup the APN's included in CM using APN Backup and restore from the market and restore them for one of the above roms , then use APN manager to activate your APN
Please note that this will override Verizon Global embedded GSM APN , Don't try this before trying the Roms with Verizon Global embedded GSM first and see the results
