[APP] Smart Screen ON - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

After the success of Smart Screen OFF, I decided to publish another app called Smart Screen ON available in LITE and PRO version too.
Smart screen ON
DESCRIPTION:
Smart screen ON is an innovative app which turns your proximity sensor into a power button. If you have a big phone with no physical button on the front(Galaxy Nexus for example, you can turn on or turn off the phone just tapping or waving your hand (finger) on proximity sensor.
FEATURES:
When you change the settings, remember saving and restarting service using built in app specific button.
There are two mode available, both mode can coexist:
+WAVE MODE:
Wave (move) your hand/finger on proximity sensor, even without touching it.
You can set the amount of waves you want to use to turn on/off screen and the time between each wave.
Do you want to wave your hand quickly or slowly?
+TAP AND SWIPE MODE:
1) Tap proximity sensor using your finger;
2) Wait for the first vibration;
3) Swipe (remove) quickly your finger, before it vibrates for the second time.
You can set the time before the first and the second vibration.
+DISABLE SENSOR
You can also disable sensor after an amount of time you can set in the app panel.
The app will disable the whole service and proximity sensor after X time of inactivity.
+STATISTICS
Statistics include:
A)Smart Screen ONs;
B)Smart Screen OFFs;
C)Total power button saves;
D)The power used by your proximity sensor (which is very very low).
+START ON BOOT
If you check this, the app will start on boot.
+HIDE ICON
If you hide the icon, the app could be instable and could be killed by Android in low memory conditions.
+ENABLE FOR TURNING SCREEN OFF
The app has been created to turn screen off, but I also give you the ability to turn screen off.
+DISABLE WHEN LANDSCAPE
The sensor will stop working when landscape.
+INCOMPATIBILITY
-HTC Desire HD is not compatible with "wave mode" because its proximity sensor doesn't work as it should.
If you want to suggest new features, please contact me on this thread, at [email protected] or use my site www.androidhd.it

Will test this out!
EDIT: I believe there's a bug with Android 4.0.4 for apps that turn off the screen?
It turns back on after turning off for a while, happens in other apps that lock the screen too.

Great app!
I would like to use your app in combination with an app like tasker, llama or locale. Could you make a shortcut to enable or disable your app? Or a locale plugin? This way I could enable/disable your app when certain conditions are met. For example when I am at home it is active and when I am at work it is disabled. I have tried to kill your app automatically with llama, but your app restarts by itself.

Love this idea. Perfect for when I'm in class and want to glance at my phone. Bought the pro version, however it worked about 3 times then stopped. I see it was just updated so I have faith this will be looked at and become more stable. Thanks.

I have updated both LITE and PRO versions. Fixed a couple of little bug (check the changelog). The update will be live within 1 hour or 2.
Friends, if you have any problem please contact me at [email protected] . If you only reply on the Store I can't help you.
If you know how to do it, record a logcat when you have a problem and send the .txt file to my email address.
App is working flawlessly on my Galaxy Nexus AOKP M5.
Note: between 1 on and 1 off you have to wait 2 seconds.

Cool app!
I confirm the bug tho, after screen off Widgetlocker turns the screen back on for a sec(Gnexus AOKP build 35).

Just updated. Tried it about 15 times. Only worked once. I have it on the tap/swipe option. AOKP B35. CDMA GNex.
BTW, I'm not complaining, just providing info. I like the app. I'll be very happy with it once I get it working.

Just use any logcat app (I use rootzbox, catlog is free) start recording. Try to do whatever function you're trying to accomplish, stop recording, it will save a txt file on your SD, navigate to file with file explorer of your choice, share file

Kk, thanx, just sent it.

I just discovered a bug (I'm not sure it's related to my app or to the ROM).
You have to completely disable the lockscreen to get it working.
I'm currently investigating this issue.

Its the same for me running stock 4.0.4 if that helps.

There is a bug that affects Android 4.0.4.
I'm trying to find a workaround for 4.0.4 users.
Version 1.2 uploaded, check it out on the store.
It should work with 4.0.4 users without disabling the screen lock.
To workaround this, I had to kill timeout display timer (you have to turn off phone manually).

Works great now. Thanks.
Edit: I didn't quite understand at first. Its a bummer that the screen stays on indefinitely now, unless manually turned off.

This is the only workaround I found.
For some strange reason what worked for <=4.0.3 doesn't work on 4.0.4 .

[Q] How to disable the TW Lockscreen

Is there a way to remove the stock lockscreen?
Here is what I have currently:
Rooted with UnNamed Rom, using No Lock app. I also have WidgetLock just in case.
What happens:
Phone will randomly go to the Stock Touch Wiz Lockscreen during any application (NetFlix, Pandora, texting). It is pretty annoying, and sometimes the phone will pull up the dialer when I didn't even press anything.
I thought I could simply remove it on Titanium Backup but I cannot find what the actual name of the TW lockscreen is named.
Any suggestions?

Well the thing is tho, I'm pretty sure if you disable the lock screen you keep your phone from sleeping. That's actually an option you can choose from inside widget locker, its called wake lock. But if your phone isn't gonna sleep, the battery will drain continuously. Plus, any button will turn the screen on. But then again, im not 100% sure.... just mostly sure

Does anyone else have some knowledge on this?
If what hijewpositive says is true, that really stinks to have such a big design flaw on this phone like that.
If you go to your keypad and put in *#7594# Check box to enable and press home button. It will disable the lock screen. If you want to use the lock screen again repeat and uncheck box. Hope this is what you are looking for.

Hmm, I've been getting the phone dialer pop up on UnNamed ROM also but only when I unlock the screen. Always thought I might of hit the phone dialer by accident, but this has occurred multiple times on UnNamed, but absolutely zero times before. Wonder if there's a bug?
Also, I use Go SMS which has a pop-up feature which prevents the lockscreen when an SMS comes through; phone still goes to sleep and no battery drain (tested it by leaving the popup on for half a day and using betterbatterystats, battery monitor, and cpu spy)
I use 'no lock' app. Never had a problem with it.

Auto-speakerphone via proximity sensor

This was a favorite patched feature on webOS, how can I replicate it on my new Nexus? I tried an apk I found on Google Code but it didn't work.
I just want to pull the phone from my face and have the audio change to speaker phone.

First you have to unzip the zip file from pascanu
Connect your Nexus to your computer and transfer the files over.
I couldn't see the "Tasker" folder, I'm on a Mac, so I got around this by first copying the files over to a temp folder, then use Astro to move the files to the proper folder, which is Tasker>profiles
Open Tasker, press and hold the profile tab (where the words "profile" are) The option to import will appear.
Import all 4 profiles, and you're good to go.
The only issue I have with pascanu's profile is, the phone screen doesn't seem to shut off, so my cheeks might press something by accident...
thanks that worked but i just unzipped the file directly from root explorer. and yes, the only thing keeping this from being completely useful is the proximity censor not turning the screen off when held to your face

I figured out how to turn the display off
Click on "Speaker OFF" then click the box with the green arrow and "Speakerphone OFF", a window will pop up, click the +, then Display>System Lock
Problem is, if you try and add a "display on" to the "Speaker ON" portion, Tasker tells me the action is not available, which means you'd have to hit the power button and turn the display on before proximity sensor kicks in and turn on the speakerphone.
pascanu, perhaps you have a more elegant solution?
Guys.... super easy alternative. download the app upsounddown from market. Its free - and you can set it for auto speakerphone when the phone is turned upside down, flat, shaken, or proximity. Its awesome and I use it all the time with no issues - just make sure you turn "on" the app from within itself after you install (no need after a reboot)

The screen doesn't seem to turn off when it is on proximity mode. Perhaps this issue can only be resolved if it is baked into a rom.

I just realized that the screen doesn't turn off (I was just playing with it).
I'm afraid there is no solution to this:
Proximity Sensor
Active when the proximity sensor of the device reports than an object is nearby.
After setting this state up, you should calibrate it by covering and then uncovering proximity sensor a couple of times.
Proximity isn't monitored while the display is off.

I tried using the keyguard action in Tasker but it only works the first time, so it's pretty much the same as display off (and as such the proximity sensor isn't monitored afterwards). I'll try looking into it a little longer maybe today.
I'm pretty sure that if Tasker can't do it neither can a standalone app.
It's not a real problem for me since I only want it to work when my phone is charging (in car, on the dashboard), so I added another condition (phone charging).
SOLVED !

Any way to keep screen always on for some apps?

Now on ICS, my screen turns off while driving on every app other than Navigation or Vlingo. Any way to keep the screen on while charging or running specific apps like Maps or Music?
Thanks in advance...
Before you use them go to settings and change your screen timeout. Under settings you can also change it so your screen stays on while charging. Other then that check the settings for the app. I know Pandora has a setting to keep the screen on or let it auto dim.

Several options...Screebl, Screen On, and my favorite...Tasker
Funny you ask this question. I've been struggling to keep my phone awake when on a phone call via bluetooth. I work out of my home office and use my phone with a bluetooth care speakerphone. Unfortunately the usual timeout settings don't work when in a phone call, so I couldn't simply set my screen timeout for, say 1 hour, and keep it on during a call. It would still turn off in both stock OS and CM9, which I'm currently running.
Yesterday I figured this out. I now use Tasker with the Secure Setting plugin. Secure Settings has a setting for "Wake Device" and I use the options of "Screen Bright" for Wake Type and "Manual - On" for Duration. When the call ends, I have an exit task for "Wake Device" with options of "Screen Bright" (not sure it matters) and "Manual - Off". Works very well.
But for other apps (that don't overide the system timeout settings), I simply have a Tasker profile that sets my timeout settings to 10 minutes. Could set it longer, but that's sufficient for me.
If you have Tasker, I recommend using it for this purpose...one less app needed. However, I've read good things about Screebl and Screen On, so both are worth a look.
btw -- be careful in leaving your screen on. The Amoled screens suffer from burn-in.
Just a word of advice you shouldn't leave the screen on for amoled devices. I have had this phone for about 6 months and my notification bar is slightly burned it but not to annoying since its always there. However my ex girlfriends samsung fascinate had icons burned on the screen. You could always see them. That was pretty annoying.

Another vote for Screen On. I've been using it for a while with great results.

Two isssues that are annoying me.

First the one handed operation, I try to disable it by unchecking the option but dor some reason it just continues to default to one handed operation while im typing.
Second issue is the default program option, I check always and go to applications manager but im unable to add always to a particular operation, like instragram, ie, twitter. Any help would be great.

Try rebooting your phone, is your keyboard showing full-screen at all? It has two multi-touch gestures built in that can not be turned off, and poorly implemented to boot. Pushing your thumbs together from the outside edge to the middle will turn on one handed mode. Then from middle with two fingers/thumbs out to edge of the screen will put it back into full-screen mode. Most of the time this only happens to me when I'm typing, not when I'm showing off the feature. :silly:

Because I tinker with several launchers, I find it easiest to just use the Home Switcher app (free on Google Play).
I don't remember for sure how I got my preferred launcher to "stick", though. I may have gone into Settings/Application Manager/All, scrolled-down and opened "TouchWiz Home" and pressed the Clear Defaults button. Then rebooted. After that, Home Switcher seemed to work as intended.
I was gonna start a thread.. but I'll bring it here, i decided to use the auto screen brightness it didn't last to long.. the screen on auto seems to change brightness allot.. but with auto brightness off its fine... does anyone have issues with auto brightness on?? Thanks

The Galaxy S1 was the same way. I never use auto brightness.

How to Disable Screen Wake for Ring app

Hey all, my ring doorbell app wakes the screen anytime I get an alert. I want to keep the notifications on but don't want the screen to wake. It wakes even in my pocket which I want to of course avoid. It may just be a bug in the app but I should be able to limit that from happening. Or so I hope anyway.
I have tried the following.
1. Switched all notifications pertaining to the app and individual cameras to "sound only"
2. In the app I have disabled "alerts open full screen video"
3. I have disabled heads up notifications globally through ADB.
4. Disabled ambient display.
5. Disabled notifications on lock screen.
I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any ideas are appreciated at this point.
TIA

I've struggled with the same thing for months. It never used to do it, but after an update earlier this year it became the new normal for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully somebody chimes in with some sort of work around.
I'm having the same problem with a Sony XZ1 phone (Android 8.0.0). I spoke with Ring at length and it's 'apparently' a problem with my phone, not their App.
I think that's a load of rubbish and something they need to address and fix. I installed the App on another Android phone running an earlier version of software, the App installs with different options and doesn't wake up the screen. So it's obviously dependent on the OS version but as other Apps don't have the same problem I can only conclude that it's an issue with the Ring App.
Has anyone tried uninstalling the app and then install an older version from APK mirror? Not even sure its on there but it's worth a go

That's a great idea. There are plenty of versions to try on APK mirror, one or two per month from 2018. Not a good sign for a reliable and stable app.
I'll give it a go later unless anyone gets there first and can suggest a 'good' version to try
Were you able to find an older version that doesn't have the screen wake behavior?
edit: Pixel 2 - going back to 2.0.66.8 still has the screen wake behavior regardless of notification setting.
edit 2: 2.0.57.2 does the same thing...
Looks like the latest ring version finally let's you fix this. Select your devices, go to notification settings, then select sound only. The default is sound plus pop up. I no longer have the issue after making the change.
Can anyone confirm if turning off the 'plus pop' in the ring app settings works? I have a new pixel 3 on Android pie and the app is still turning on the screen at every alert event with settings set to just sound or just silent.
I'm having the same issue with the ring app. It wakes the screen. Really sucks when phone is in my pocket. I have tried every option and or combo of options. I have a pixel 3a on Android 10. Android 10 does have a option to wake screen for notifications found under display advanced, lock screen. But it is turned off
Still a problem on Android 10, No combinations of settings has been able to stop this for me. Of course Ring denies this even though I have sent a logcat to them.
