[Q] stuck on splash screen.. please help - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

OK, as the title says, my phone is stuck on the splash screen (nyan cat) and i am freaking out, i only have very basic knowledge of CWM and hardly anything else.
I was running GummyNex v1.0.1 and the stock kernel that came with that.
Now what i did to get myself into this mess!
I was playing around in jrummy16's ROM toolbox and installed a font onto my phone, then when i did the reboot it told me to do after installing the font it just hung on the nyan cat splash screen for over 30 minutes, after that i pulled the battery in fear.
Next step i did was reboot into fastboot then clockwork recovery and wipe the cache, tried rebooting, never ending nyan again.
Again into CWM and wiped data/factory reset and wipe dalvik, the same story.
Now i found someone who had the same problem online, but he luckily wasn't an idiot and didn't remove all ROMs from his internal memory a few nights before. flashing a new ROM fixed his problem, but unfortunately i cant because i dont have any in my memory and i have no idea howcome i don't have a nandroid backup anymore, i did one of my last ROM but its not there (more stupidity)
can anyone please advise on what to do next? I am in dire need of help.
is there anyway i can get a ROM + GApps onto my phone when all i can access is CWM?
Thankyou for any help

Cant you put your SD into another phone or an SD reader? Had the same problem myself in the past so I know how does it feel, but it's your only chance.
EDIT: damn just saw its a nexus so my post is nonsense, I hope your GNexus fellas can provide you a solution. I think you can to put back stock rom with your computer, after you put your phone in APX mode.

I hope you have ADB set up...
If not, read post 1 and set yourself up.
The AIO installer will be more than enough (and will take you 3 minutes max) for this purpose.

[Q] OK, so what am I missing....

First off, thanks for all the help so far, this site is the best!
I just rooted my Evo using the unrevoked3. Had a little bit of trouble, nothing major, and overall it was a success. I also installed ROM Manager and Titanium Backup, based on suggestions found here.
The problem is, I'm not quite getting how to flash the roms... I downloaded one through ROM manager, and it seemed to work, but I didn't notice a single thing different. I tried to install CyanogenMod, and it downloaded, but it would always fail during the install.
I tried downloading on my computer, then moving the .zip file to my sdcard. Then I select "install rom from sdcard" and everything seems to go ok, I end up having to go into recovery and "rollback" my phone to the stock rom, because twice now I've almost bricked my phone.
Really, what I'm wanting is a setup like that "Kuma Style" one (without the animal), and a different bootscreen. I have spent a lot of time searching around, and it seems simple enough, I just seem to be missing some integral part of the proccess.....
Any help is appreciated!

I am not familiar with Unrevoked, but just running unrevoked doesn't completely root your phone. You need to do the second parts of rooting which unlocks nand.
Ah, so there is more to do. Maybe that's the problem then.... *off in search of how to unlock nand

Unlocking nand just unlocks something so that you can save full image backups. That wouldn't lead to your phone not installing a ROM right, it's just something you'll want just in case things go wrong. So still finish the root and get nand. But that's not what you're missing here.
Possible error: Did you wipe settings &factory reset and wipe cache in ClockworkMod before flashing the ROM? I think that could lead to some problems.
Try flashing the alternative Amon Ra recovery through rom manager (will state that rom manager won't be fully functional unless clockworkmod is installed) and loading the roms onto the sd card then reboot into recovery. Amon Ra seems to work better imo than clockworkmod. When you're talking about something like "kuma style," those are themes that are usually flashable in recovery also. The boot animation could alse be flashable in recovery but if not, there are instructions on how to adb push custom ones onto your phone.

Gah! So I downloaded the enamored theme, moved it to the sd card, then went to ROM Manager and selected "Reboot into Recovery"and selected the enamored.zip. It said the install was a success, but when I rebooted, the phone stuck on the bootanimation. I tried restarting a couple times, but it always gets stuck in the same place.
I booted into recovery (if thats waht you call the hold the volume button down while pushing the power button trick), and selected recover, then nandroid, then a time under yesterdays date. Phone recovered fine.
WtH am I doing wrong? I realize I am way out of my league, but I'm not completely retarded. Again, GAH!
Are u wiping data and cache when flashing a ROM? I have been stuck at the CM6 boot animation when coming from a different Rom and not wiping.

When you flash a theme, it could take up to 2-5 minutes to finish. This occurs during the boot animation. I flash themes all the time and I notice it's usually around 2-3 minutes wait. Maybe faster for others but that's just been my experience. If it's over 5 minutes than there's probably something wrong with your zip file or maybe clockworkmod recovery doesn't flash it properly. Also, it could be an issue with the kernel you're using...I noticed on kingklick cfs #10, I was stuck on boot animation for about 7 minutes and so I reverted back to the stock kernel and the theme was applied within 3 minutes.
ok, apparently I've been missing that step...
where do I do that again?

I waited a good long time. Am I at least headed in the right direction? Sorry to sound whiny, it's just that there's a few little things I want to do, and I'm intimidated as hell by actually doing any command line, so I'm hoping to avoid that- aka riding someone else's coattails
First, which rom are you using and is it stock or custom kernel? Are you using clockworkmod recovery? Try flashing the alternative amon ra recovery in rom manager then boot into recovery and apply your selected theme.
if you are using a stock rom it must say stock 2.2 deodexed
if it is not a deodexed rom.. of any kind.. then themes will say they flashed but they will either brick your phone or not work at all.
and stop using clockwork.... just use amon ra

I could be way off here, but I've seen some people who rooted using unrevoked, and run into trouble flashing things (or maybe I'm thinking of trouble with terminal commands) and it turned out they couldn't find flash_image anywhere in there SD card, Which should be installed (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
I saw a lot of reports of this in chainsDDs superuser thread, if I remember correctly. They had to install flash_image.img (which is a file available on toasts part 2 root tutorial)
I obviously could be wrong about this, I've never used unrevoked, I rooted via toast, and his method included everything.
@ V_lestat
Thanks for the heads up about themes having the ability to brick your phone if not deodexed, I never knew that. I flash roms and kernels a lotbut never messed with themes much.
At OP, have a look at virus Rom thread. It's a great ROM, and he has built some different themes to go with it. Beautiful stuff, great ROM, great thread.
Good luck

See, some people say use clockwork, some people say Amon.
I looked around a lot beforehand, and people kept saying to use unrevoked, so I did. Now people say I should have used Toast?
Thanks for everybodies help so far, I am reading everything and taking it all in.
I Don't Mean to add any Confusion to your situation. I am new to this also.. I went with unrevoked also and when I booted into recovery with clockwork mod. I did a nand back up first to make sure if anything went wrong I could just boot back into recovery and load my backup. Then I wiped my Data & Davlick Cache all of the caches. Then I installed my Rom and it worked like a charm. I will add it did take about 5 to 7 mins to boot only on the first time though. I hope that helps some as to the process and what to do first don't give up XDA rocks with the smartest mind on the planet.

If you are using ROM Manager to "install zip from card" it presents you with a dialog with two unchecked check boxes. One of them is "wipe data + cache". make sure you check it before hitting ok on that dialog.
If you are manually booting into recovery then in the recovery choices you will see one that says wipe data and one thats says wipe davlik cache. first do a nandroid back up then wipe those data and davlik then install the rom. By the way are you just installing a theme or a full rom that might be the issue i am just wondering maybe a senior member can help on wether you can install a theme over a rooted stock theme or not?
Success!
I went into ROM Manager, backed up current ROM, went into recovery manually, wiped the cache, then installed from zip, and it worked! I tried a cool theme I found, and I like it, but it seemed old. I just installed fresh, and the enamored theme, and all is working great!
A couple more questions,
1) how do I get my contacts back?
2) How do I get my apps back onto my phone? I have them backed up on appbrain, but I haven't been able to find how to get them back to the phone.
So far, I've tried a couple of ROM's (and/or themes) and I've ended up flashing back to my own "safe" one, until I figure these two things out.
A tremendous thanks to everyones help! I seriously couldn't have done it without you guys
Edit; Oh yeah, one other thing. How do I delete the other nand backups? There's like 5, and I need to free up some memory. I tried going in and selecting one to see if it gave me the option to delete, but I didn't see anywhere that it did.... Got it. Search feature to the rescue

[Q] Please Help! Looping

Ok... here's the deal. I just decided to switch roms finally to see what is new out there. I had been running an old version of Uber Kingdom. Here is the problem I am having. It is boot looping. Relatively simple problem to fix usually. But wait, there's more! It is boot looping in every single rom I install. Sometimes it won't boot to clockwork properly either and I have to pull the battery. Is there someway I can fix this? Or is this a hardware problem (which I kind of doubt)? I just don't understand what the heck is going on. I have been flashing different roms left and right for the past few hours trying to get this thing to stabilize. Sometimes it will boot up into the rom, I will get mostly through the google accounts setup, and then it will restart, and then loop. Other times it won't even get past the white incredible screen, and then sometimes it will make it into the rom splash screen. I have attempted to install CM7 nightly, Uber kingdom, and Synergy so far. I can flash the new rom, I can mount the SD card in clockwork, but then it begins to loop again as soon as I leave clockwork.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Is there a way to just completely redo EVERYTHING, clockwork, rom, everything, just to make sure I have a nice clean slate?
Thanks a ton for reading through this novel. I am extremely frustrated.
~Will
PS, I may not get back to this thread until morning. I have to get to sleep for work. Sorry if I don't respond right away to information requests. Thanks again!
If you can mount the SD card, download the stock RUU from www.dougpiston.com, put it on the root of the SD card named exactly PB31IMG.zip, and boot into hboot to install it. Your phone should be restored to stock, a clean slate.
Tried a different SD?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
How are you downloading and flashing the ROM? I had this problem when trying to do everything through Rom Manager. Even trying to flash in recovery with a ROM downloaded through ROM Manager would loop.
Update
Well, I was just getting ready to flash the original RUU when I tried one last time to restore my old Uber rom setup and it worked (whereas the last 3 times of doing exactly the same process didn't). It stopped looping at least, even though I am still running the same rom I was before. I think tonight I am still going to attempt to flash the RUU anyway and start over anew.
To answer the questions before, No, I did not try a different SD. I didn't know it could make that much difference. Still on the original one that came with the phone.
As the downloading and flashing process goes, I was downloading direct from the XDA forums on my laptop, then transferring the files via USB. I have never really liked using the Rom Manager. It cuts me out of the XDA loop and I don't get to see all the bleeding edge discussions, etc...
So I will try to flash everything new tonight, and then post my results for anyone who is curious. Thanks for the help guys!

[Q]Desire Z keeps rebooting after few seconds on home screen

Hi,
I ve been through all this forum and the rest of the internet, but I couldnt find the answer ... so hopefully you will help me.
I have Desire Z - about 3 months old.
I ve rooted the phone and flashed to cyanogenmod 7.1 stable. All the time Ive followed guides here or on cyanogen section/wiki. CM has been running stable for a month maybe until today.
This morning I couldnt make a call - so I rebooted phone.
After reboot phone gets to the home screen and automatically reboots itself after 5 seconds.

Thank you now for pointing me somewhere - Ill add more info when I ll have it.
I had a similar problem after flashing new rom. My Desire Z was also rebooting after a few seconds.
I downloaded 1.34.707.3 firmware(used to downgrade Desire Z from gingerbread) from CM wiki, installed it through fastboot (step 8) , rooted my phone once again following the wiki and since then my phone is working without any problems.
Battery can be charged up while the phone is turned off.
well I flashed phone with the downgrading rom as you mentioned and it helped a little
- phone is running and not restarting after few seconds - but randomly after 5-60 seconds (so I am able to do at least something ))...
On monday I ll root that bi*ch again, pull there CM7 or some other ROM and post here actual status.
Thank you so far
Similar problem
Hi, I have the exact same problem with my Desire Z. I've attached the last_msg if someone could help me with that.. also, my sdcard is not partitioned so could that have anything to do with it? Thanks, hopefully I'll get an answer soon
Resurrecting a bit of an old thread here but I have just experienced these exact symptoms.
A friend gave me his old Desire-Z so of course I immediately set about rooting it and trying some ROMs.
As a start I went with the most recent Cyanogenmod which is 7.2 at this time. Everything was going smoothly and was just getting used to the phone and it's physical keyboard. My biggest worry was that the battery life wouldn't be good enough for me so I was running a test to see how long it would last. I am a very light phone user. With background wifi disabled, gps disabled and the phone set to 2G only it ran for 7days and 3 hours! No problems there even with a well used battery. When it eventually died I hit the power button to wake it and it started booting and then shutdown again as you would expect. However after I had fully charged it it booted no problems but then went into the boot loop described above. It boots successfully to the home screen but then after 10-15 seconds it reboots. Frustrating!
I tried some things:
Clear cache from CWM: No change
Factory reset from CWM: No change
Reflash CM7.2 from CWM: No change
Clear Dalvik Cache from CWM: No change
Clear Battery stats from CWM: No change. I was hopeful this might be the problem as the battery had been unusually flat, perhaps some flag had been set that caused the reboot.
I have now recovered by reflashing the exploitable original image, PC10IMG.zip, and then going back through the rooting process. I wouldn't want to have to do it again though.
Possible explainations for the behaviour: I was running a battery monitor app (GSam Battery Monitor) which runs continuously and has various power related functions. Though I would have thought anything that was doing would have been removed by factory reset or reflashing CM.
During the 7 days I was testing ROM manager prompted me to update it and then to update the version of CWM that I had. This is perhaps more likely as would have survived everything else I tried to recover until I reflashed the original recovery.
Hope that helps someone and if anyone has any insight on this I'd lobe to hear it.
Steve
Looks like I spoke too soon. First time I had to reboot the phone I got stuck in the reboot loop again.
Hmm, really confused now. No idea what can be causing this that isn't solved by reflashing CM7.2 but is by going back to the original rom?
Steve
the only thing, that helped me back then was to flash another ROM ... give it a try.
there is several other ROMs based on CM, I'm pretty sure, that you'll find one, that will suit you best.
Thanks for the reply I appreciate you taking the time.
It's very odd I can't think what might be causing this. I ran CM7.2 with zero issues for a week. Then first time I had to reboot it gets stuck in the loop.
Since I was away from home I could not get into recovery. I could get into HBoot (by holing Vol. Down + Power) but because I had a PC10IMG.zip file on my sdcard it would just go straight in to asking if I wanted to update from that with no way to select recovery. And of course I needed to have the sdcard in the phone to get an image from it!
So I have been running from the exploitable 2.2 Rom from the rooting procedure since. That can reboot no problems.
Today I tried a much more recent CM10.1 based rom - stuck in boot loop.
Then a tried the Rooted G2 stock ROM which is obviously much older. It booted correctly one time. Then I rebooted it (actually shutdown and then turned on, it doesn't have a reboot option) and now I'm stuck in the reboot loop.
I'm doing a factory reset and clearing the Dalvik cache after flashing each ROM.
I have also tried booting without the sdcard or SIM card, no change.
Something I have observed is that the phone will reboot once after flashing with every ROM, even the original ROM, but then either runs correctly or continuously reboots.
I can only think that possibly I have wrong phone model. I know that the previous owner bought this contract free so it may be some import. Perhaps it's actually a G2 and I'm using the wrong HBoot? I think that's unlikely as it would show an error during the rooting process.
Steve
I doubt you have the wrong hboot, it wouldn't even start if you did. I would do a complete wipe and format maybe change firmware as well. Backup SD and reformat that as well. If you have true radio soff (rooted via gfree) then you are safe to use one of the pc10img.zips I created here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27796375 (see post 30)
Make sure to remove it from SD this time or at least change the name when done
This will give you new engineering hboot, updated 4ext recovery, .19 radio but all can be changed to whatever if you want.
After the flash reformat all in recovery and flash a new rom
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Thanks for your input.
Updating the radio rom does seem tempting if potentially dangerous! The claimed power saving especially. I haven't ever used 4ext recovery but given how CWM seems to be failing me I might give it a try.
I don't wan to speak too soon here (but doing so anyway!) it looks like I may have corrected the problems by using SuperWipeG2+ from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044992
After running that, which can easily be done from CWM, the phone booted first time with no reboots.
I'll update this if that did not fix it.
Steve
Yep spoke too soon!
However I have found a way to reliably recover but it's not straight forward.
Boot to recovery. Run SuperWipeG2+.
Attempt to boot the phone, boot fails as there is no ROM installed. This step seems important.
Boot to recovery. Install ROM from zip and Gapps from zip.
Reboot and phone will boot successfully and stay booted!
I then have to recover all my contacts and apps from Google which takes a further 20/25 mins.
Having done that I still cannot reboot the phone. If I reboot (or shutdown and power on) it is then stuck ion the boot loop and I have to do that all over again!
This means I cannot ever allow the phone to go flat.
Aaarrgh!
Any suggestions? It has been suggested that installing another ROM could fix this. Any specific ROM? Any idea why that would work?
I have found that the light sensor doesn't seem to be working and the suggested fix for that is to install a Sense based ROM and then switch back. I can't see how that could work either.
Steve
Yeah I've heard the sense ROM thing works, I don't see how but people seem to swear by it. I would suggest you change all your firmware, new hboot, new radio, new recovery and what not a new ROM. There are lots of good ROMs to choose from so I wouldn't know what to recommend for you, personally I almost always use gingerbread based ones

How long after flashing a new rom for boot up?

I just flashed a new rom and it has been booting up for 10 minutes, Is that normal or no?
10 minutes is a bit long. Do you have the sdk set up? If so, type ddms in your command prompt it will open the debug monitor. There you can watch the log to see if your phone is bootlooping.
Some roms take a bit longer for some reason. I have a sort of internal clock these days from flashing so many roms that tells me when it's been booting for a bit too long
I just loaded the Alfonso 4.0.3 rom last night, was taking ages. found out I had to wipe all data, cache etc and try rebooting again for it to work..
thx
Ill try that and lets all hope that it works.!

Does anyone know if this seems long?

12 min seems a lil bit long, i needed for the reboot after flash 3 - 4 min....maybe u should try to flash over normal cwm and not rom manager....
The last time I flashed AOKP it was in bootloop about 10-15 minutes so I battery pulled (probably not the smartest idea) and then restarted and it booted perfectly. If you decide to take that route, just make sure you have SDK & adb set up so you can save yourself if you have the need. Aside from that time though ROMs usually only take a few minutes to boot.
*Also if it takes too long to boot I would recommend going back into clockwork and re-wipe/flash and it should, in theory, boot correctly.

Just hard bricked my GN GT_I 9250 while trying to flash it a factory 4.2.2 with nexus root toolkit. I just flashed the zip file (apparently that was wrong?). It died in the flashprocess and won't even go to bootloader.
there is a guide here, where I'm not allowed to post yet, but I can't install INF driver in step 5 so I though you might have another solution?

That is way too long , I prefer you to factory reset and re-flash the rom.

[Q] HTC EVO 4G with Fresh EVO 4.3.3 always goes to loading screen

I have an EVO 4G with version 2.3.3 running Fresh EVO 4.3.3 and I am having a problem when I leave an app using my home button. The Freshhh logo appears and the phone goes to my home screen but says it is loading for about 40 seconds. Does this every time I leave an app or somewhere other than my home screen. Just started about 1 month ago and I have been running 4.3.3 for about 6 months. I have cleared cashe but not done a wipe. Trying to avoid that.
I am currently having the same problem with the Fresh 4.3.3 ROM...Mine will randomly just get stuck in the boot loop cycle with the Fresh logo and the only way to fix it is to pull the battery. Other than that it's a great app and needless to say it has become such an issue that I am looking for another ROM to run

After running a rom for soo long it starts to get cluttered, wether you wipe cache and delvik or not,you might need to backup everything with some kind of app backup program then do a complete wipe, except the sd card, unless you decide to partition your sd card, which is the best way to solve this issue in the future.

Okay so to bite on the noob question just back everything up with say MyBackUp Pro (what I use) and then wipe all the things in recovery and that should fix it? I use No Frills CPU program as well....wondering what the min/max should be set at or if it's even necessary? I followed this thread to root my phone since I'm not exactly a computer whiz.

Any advice on a better ROM/kernel package to run?
Thanks to everyone for the replies..
don't really want to wipe my phone AGAIN. Anyone know Flipz and maybe want to ask him. I dont want to ask him on his site because he is so busy but i am looking for a permanent fix to this.
I found the Express ROM and Anthrax kernel and love it!
partition
Diablo, do you mean partition it and install only Fresh on part of it and then install apps and other crap on the other part? how do i do that or can you point me toward a thread?
The thread I posted a link to has instructions for partitioning your SD card
Sounds like sense restarts. Try searching for V6 supercharger by zepplinrox. Or any other script such as snuffed out script. They will set your oom groupings and keep your launcher from having to restart all the time
