What Is "Whole-File Signature"??? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok so the war between me & this damn Sprint Galaxy Nexus continues...
I've been trying to get this update to fully install with no luck...
last night after 6 hours of rumbling the device, flashing wrong files, ending up with Verizon/no sim card/no service then FINALLY getting it fixed and back to stock so I can install the update and I just tried and guess what...
still no luck!!!
this god-forsaken update downloads then turns the device off then the screen with the little android with the blue thing spinning in his belly starts up for about 10 seconds then I get:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
has anyone else gotten the same error when attempting to install the update?
I'm using ClockworkMod 5.8.3.1 and the build is IMM76D.L700FC12
can I download the OTA Update & push it through using the Nexus Toolkit?
any/all help is appreciated!

Bro your in need of some serious help there is a way to flash to stock FD02 which is the latest stock build.... give me a sec to find the how to. Follow that then reflash the radios and then root again.
I'm sure its through Odin so make sure you have a good thick cable not the stock one. Like a blackberry one is one I always suggest.

Once thats done go ahead and unlock the bootloader and all that deal. Root it, then reflash those fixed radios. Then you should be good to go .

Got OTA notification but....

...I downloaded the 4.0.4 update and went to install and reboot. But the phone got stuck at the screen with the android belly up and a exclamation point. Pulled the battery and rebooted and was at 4.0.2 still. Haven't gotten another OTA notification. Do I get another OTA alert or do I have to update manually.
I have a GSM Nexus, rooted but with stock 4.0.2. And I activated OTA RootKeeper before downloading the update. Any help will be greatly accepted.

Besides root and maybe unlock your bootloader, did you change anything in your system (install mods, different radio etc. or rename system files)? If you are not completely stock your OTA will not work and you will have to update manually or get back to Stock first.

Nothing changed. Except for root and unlocked bootloader everything is stock.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Well the screen you were looking at (Android belly up) is the stock recovery. If you see that: no need to pull battery. Simply push volume up + power simultaneously and you'll get into the recovery menu. Scrolling through the options can be done with the volume buttons, select with the power button.
That said: I think no one knows for sure but I myself would not wait and update myself. There are a lot of guides here on how to do that and if you flash the stock images you will have the same as anyone who had the OTA. Make a proper backup first (you allways should)! You will lose all your data if you have to unlock your bootloader.

Have you installed CWM recovery installed?
The "belly up" android is the phone trying to boot in the stock recovery to update the phone. But as you may have CWM recovery installed (which replaces the stock recovery) the phone cannot complete the update.
You will need to re-install the stock recovery. I believe you can do this with the GNex Toolkit.

Is it possible to get the Stock Recovery Screen when you have CWM installed? Didn't think that was possible... that it would just boot into CWM recovery. That is why I didn't mention it (trying to learn here).
Same problem here. Stock 4.0.2, rooted, CWM installed.
Does this mean we will lose settings before we are able to update the device?

this mean you are not eligible for the OTA update mate, because you have a custom recovery
i suggest you to
flash the stock rom manually
flash a custom rom wih 4.04 inside

custom recovery is needed in order to install custom ROM dude, is quite simple
and yes, you can root the stock ROM without custom recovery, there are a lot of guide about that in the developer section

So my only option to fix this now is flash 4.0.4 manually (will I lose stuff?) and then root again and get stock recovery back? Sorry for my n00b questions, thanks for your help!
Edit: would it be easier if I just get the stock recovery back and then try to get the OTA to turn up again?

I want to manually flash 4.0.4 and stay unrooted. Should I use the GNex Toolkit to flash 4.0.4 directly or do I need to flash the same version I have on my phone?

I had the same issue described by the OP, the belly up android when trying to update to 4.0.4 from the OTA notification. I had previously changed to 4.0.2 yakju using efrant's instructions from the first post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391881
However, I had skipped the optional sections. In particular step 12 to flash the recovery partition. I went back and just executed step 12 (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) and rebooted. Then I was able to update to 4.0.4 successfully from the OTA notification.
I'm guessing I didn't have the "stock recovery" because I previously had the default Samsung version?
Just got the update again OTA, and again the belly up droid. I'm really pissed now, bc it also reset my Go launcher... Had 7 screens w/ widgets and shortcuts...
Why did it go wrong again? I thought I put back the recovery to stock to solve the OTA problem... Should I do other things? The phone starts to really slow down and I'm ready to toss this piece of c* in the bin...

I had the same issue just now with my phone (unlocked, rooted, stock revcovery), but a quick reboot allowed the update to complete and I'm now on 4.0.4. Did you check the version number again after this latest attempt?
Yes, still 4.0.2.
And of course, my phone says I'm up to date. Lovely, NAAAAAT!

[Q] Stock ROM 4.0.2 won't update

I have an unlocked Nexus on stock rom 4.0.2. I haven't been using for a couple of weeks. Finally I decided it's time to sell it. So I charged it up and reset to factory settings. On restart it told me that there is an update available.
Sweet! Let's do it. The phone restarts, goes into update mode and then somewhere in the middle it fails. After a minute it restarts and works ok, but the OS is still 4.0.2
This happened about a week ago. Since that time it has asked me to update 3-4 times and has failed every one of them.
Anyone can suggest me how to deal with this? I just want to upgrade it to 4.0.4 via normal way.
why bother updating when your anyways selling it
and why ru selling it by the way ?? is it buggy, faulty or something ??
i dont have my nexus with me yet but i'll can advice clearing that setting (and data if available) from settings and try checking update >> apply update
or simply screw all that manually flash 4.0.4
You have an update for which variant on which carrier???
This could be a download issues that happens. It should eventually work. But I don't know which carrier your on and also there could be OTA traffic.
If you changed kernel /radios/Stock recovery for cwm/twrp /Stock system apps the ota wont work..
If you want to flash yakju or takju(Stock factory images) follow efrant's guide

Not sure what do you mean by that. The update just pops up saying there is a new version available. The phone was bought in Czech Republic, it is not locked to any carrier.
It won't update if you don't have stock recovery.

If you "rooted" by flashing the root files using CWM, then you need to flash back the stock recovery for the update to work.

Hi,
I got the same problem even if I am on a XXLA2 radio. But I can't flash any ROM (OTA or not) and cannot unroot (I gess it might cause the flashing issue).
Any idea? I feel all alone on the web with this problem noone seems to have...
i had the same thing with 4.0.4 ( i dont remember what version). i had that version with bugs but thats wasnt problem . then i got 4.0.4 update about 908kb but i couldnt install that because very time failed with ( android with red exclamation mark.)

yeas, it's works perfectly
If you have busy box installed like most people who are rooted it will screw your system files so you can't update properly an you will keep getting the install aborted message, just permanently flash system image from 4.0.4 stock using fast boot or toolkit before installing jellybean. If you want cwm an stock recovery keeps flashing itself back after each reboot you get that dead android screen when trying to boot into recovery ,you have to go to system/ect location in phone an rename the install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.bak using root explorer or whatever an reflash cwm again, I had that problem when re rooting after jb update an trying to use cwm.
My friend having seems red error. After downloading update. And as mentioned here it is xxla issue which has to be stocked.
One quick question though, do I need to just flash xxla radio and reboot or I have to unlock bootloader too?

This is only true if you installed busybox in /system/bin. You should NOT install it there. Installing it in /system/xbin will cause no issues, and it will work properly.

Stuck Unrooting SGS3 SGH-T999

Bad news, everyone! I have an SGH-T999 that I rooted using hxxp://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/
Now I am trying to unroot it using hxxp://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/ so I can get the TMo OTA JellyBean update.
The phone is in download mode but Odin3 v1.85 is stuck at recovery.img and nothing has happened for 10 minutes. I verified the files all matched their published checksums and followed the steps exactly in the rooting and unrooting processes. How do I get out of this without bricking my phone?
Have you tried doing a battery pull and rebooting your phone in download mode?
DONT PULL OUT THE BATTERY, YOU CAN BRICK IT! Hold the power button for 10 sec. And it will safely get you out of download mode. Redownload the files again and try the unroot process all over again.

Thanks for the replies -- I was able to escape download mode by holding the power button. I booted to CWM with Up Vol, Home, and Power, and did a reset which got me back to factory. However, CWM still causes a failure when trying to process the OTA update? Where do I go from here to install the OTA update from TMo?
You have to install using odin.

I tried the unroot process using Odin -- same process as in the first post -- on my other computer and it fails even earlier at writing boot.img. No idea what to do at this point. Is there a way to remove CWM and replace it with whatever was there before?
Try using mobile odin to revert to stock if your having problems. Flash the stock firmware and itll revery you to stock including recovery I believe.

Thanks, I got Mobile Odin and was able to flash the SGH-T999 ROM from stockroms.net. Stupidly, I thought the JB update from TMo was already being pushed OTA since there was a big update from them that kept failing. Apparently, I was wrong. Guess I will try flashing the leaked ROM, though there is speculation the official release will be pushed in the coming week. Thanks again for the help everyone.

[Q] Screwed something up... can't flash stock now

So I got a GS3 today. As of now I've had it for less than 20 hours. I was trying to install google wallet on it and i rebooted it and now it won't go past the "samsung galaxy S III" logo. I can get it in to download and recovery just fine, but when I try to flash the stock rom, it says installation aborted, and trying an update prompts "Failed to stat "/system/build/prop" no such file or directory" which was a file I messed with according to directions posted here on xda. I need to fix this. I'm getting really frustrated because I just canceled my other phone. after getting this one so I'm screwed right now. I wasn't wanting to spend my day off fixing my brand new phone but I guess I brought it on myself.
I'm ok at using odin, I can get it in to download mode... I just need to know what files to put where and I need it to be stock. PLEASE HELP!

Glad you got it fixed there are some touchwiz leaks out look in the stickies and yes you will have to install Google now
