Download icon on desktop???? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a green download icon on the Kindle Fire and when I open it, there is nothing in there. I thought it was a shortcut to sdcard/downloads but it's not. When I have an attachment in my email I want to save it, It will say saved to sdcard/Downloads. When I go to that folder in my sdcard I can see the file there, but when I go back to the desktop and click on the download icon there is nothing in it.
Is there a way to create a shortcut of that folder to my home screen?
I am using Launcher Pro. If I go to Add then hit shortcuts the Launcher pro shuts down.

Youtube on HTC Tilt 2 is already installed.

My first post on xda.
Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube (444K sized file will do just fine)
Copy the file and paste shortcut in Start Menu> Programs
The next step is very important.
Goto:Settings >Connections>Connections>Advanced Tab: Select Network button: Change bottom drop down to Media Net. Both drop downs should be Media Net.
Thats it.

Hi,
I did as you stated but my YouTube program does not launch from within the start menu, it just stays highlighted when I click on it.
I did a soft reset and nothing changed.
It works if I go to Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube 444K and click on the file.
Any one else had this problem and know how to fix it ?
Thanks
It works for me, but it take forever to connect and sometimes just end up ERROR can not play. I spend more time watching the 'connecting' on the screen than the video I want to watch.
The only YouTube file that works for my Tilt2 was downloaded from google mobile- by using the MS IE, not Opera. The only issue (minor) i get is when i select a video file- it will go into landscape opposite the native landscape of the Tilt2. not a biggie. However, it works fine when using ''changescreen" app (enabled).

i am having the same issue. it highlights but doesnt activate the program.
if you go to the exe file in fileexplorer and then press and hold the exe file, a screen will popup with the options to "send shortcut to programs" hope this helps
I feel pretty silly...
I was able to find the YouTube files on my phone. I copied them over to "Program Files" (which, as I've read here, isn't the way to go about it) So I deleted the files I copied over to there. Problem is, it deleted both the "copies" and the original files :/
How can I retrieve the Tilt 2's version of the YouTube application without completely wiping out my phone?
Thanks for any and all help.
no sound on youtube app
I was able to copy the shortcut over and when I double click on it the client works but there is no sound. What gives?

You don't paste it to the menu directly, you have to paste it in /Windows/start menu/programs directory on your phone
Youtube app in start menu
i had the same problem puttin the Youtube app that comes with the Tilt 2 on the start menu and actually getting it to work, but after a whole day of messin with the settings, i finally got it on the start menu, and workin!
first what i did was
opened the file explorer<windows
from here you will sort by name so it appears from a to z(only if u need to because mine showed from z to a)
then you will scroll down to the Youtube folder, click and hold down to copy.
after you copy it you will paste it under the program files (my device<program files)
after that you will need to copy the actuall app and add it to the start menu.
the app will be found under the my device<windows: scroll very closely to the bottom of the list to find the app, click on the one that says 25b. click and hold on it then copy it and paste it under the start menu folder at the top of the windows<programs.
now when you click your start menu there should be the youtube app and should work. i have only tested it under my wifi settings at the house but it should work on 3g.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
and if you want to rearrange the start menu, i recommened downloading the JWMD-Icon-Changer at:
pocketpc-freeware.net/jwmd-icon-changer-get-12511.html
i downloaded it fomr my pc and sync my phone to my pc after saving the app and draggin and droppin it into my phones file explorer and then installed it from there.
we already had it on the stock rom? I downloaded it from google mobile with google maps :X...anyways, no probs with the way I did it...idk
thanx vic1307, your method worked perfectly!

Any reason we don't cut and Paste, instead of copying...doubling the file?
You can't "paste" into the start menu folder....you can't paste into any folder that is already full, because there is no empty space that you can place your cursor on and hold to get menu to pop up.
If you try it ends up clicking on an item in the folder, because there are no empty spots to click on in the folder..
This is one thing that really annoys me with wm6.5....thank the idiot that designed this feature.
ok, I just cut everything out of the start up menu file, and pasted the youtube file into the blank folder, then pasted everything else back into the start up menu.
annoying, but affective. Deleted Google's youtube. Like the stock look one much better. ;D
Post #8!!! That is your answer!!!! Do NOT COPY the exe file to the start menu!! Either copy the YouTube.lnk file to the start menu, or send the exe file to the start menu as a short cut. Also, if you are using the native file explorer, then you may not see the .lnk or .exe file extensions to know the difference.
You should see the files in this order:
*at$t rom*
YouTube.exe (with YT icon) 458k
YouTube.exe.0409 (windows icon) 10.9k
YouTube.lnk (YT icon) 25b <-- file size should be another clue it is just a short cut.
You want a copy of the .lnk file in the start menu.
There are two YouTube apps, one is an HTC app that is hidden on the phone, the other is Google's and it has to be downloaded. I like the HTC app better myself btw.

[Q] Editing sense shortcuts

Hi!
Is there any way I can edit tabs in htc sense? I mean not just show/hide, but add my own app. Using Resco contact manager and I would really like to use its Sms inbox instead of Htc sms tab... Done quite a lot of search but didnt find anything
Thanks for any help!
Also - how can I edit Start menu - if I hold finger on screen, it allows me only to move items. How can i add folder and move eg. favourite apps in there...?
Go to File Explorer app, then go to My Device/Windows.
It takes a long time for the file explorer to finish loading all the files in the Windows folder, but be patient. Did I mention it takes a long time? But it will get there. Don't turn off your phone or reset.
Once it is done, go to Start Menu folder and you can delete shortcut you don't want or edit as your please.

How to fix wallpaper issues in both TW ICS ROM's

1. Download the following APK and place on the root of your internal or external sd card.
2. Using Root Explorer: Navigate to "sdcard" folder (this is your internal sd).
If you placed file on root of your external sd then once inside the sdcard folder navigate to "external_sd" folder
3. Go to file labeled "Gallery2.apk" and long press on file. Choose "Move" from the options that pop up.
4. Use the back key on your phone until at the top of the screen you see the Root Explorer icon and a "/" with nothing after the "/"
5. Click on folder marked "system". inside that folder click on "app" folder.
6.After you open the "app" folder click "Paste" button at bottom of screen. Scroll down and you should now see 2 gallery apk's. One labeled "Gallery2" and the other labeled "Gallery3D". Hit the Home button on your phone to exit.
Now for how to get widescreen wallpapers to work
1. From system settings for display choose Homescreen wallpaper. you will get a popup of the different options you have to choose wallpapers from. You must choose the Gallery that is labeled as "com.android.gallery3d". It will have the pink icon.
2. Once inside this gallery choose which image you would like to use as your wallpaper. Once you choose a popup box will appear. Your 2 options will be Crop picture from both the galleries. It does not matter which of the options you choose!!!
3. If you choose the Crop option labeled "com.cooliris.media" you will see the familiar orange rectangle to choose how to crop the image. If you choose the one labeled "com.android.gallery3d" the box for cropping will look different than you are accustomed to but will function just the same.
4. Resize how you like and hit the "CROP" button or "SAVE" button depending on which crop option you chose and your wallpaper is set for your homescreen.
For lockscreen choose select wallpaper from "Gallery" Choose complete action using the gallery marked "com.android.gallery3d". Pick your image and choose which gallery method you would like to crop with, crop image, and you are now good to go.

Help with zip icon and font pack download

Did a search and came up short. I downloaded an "icon pack" in zip form. I transferred the files to File Manager HD, how do I get my N7 to recognize these files as some sort of icon pack?
Thanks for the help.
"Transferred the files" meaning transferring the image files / icons that were in the zipped file? I'd suggest copying / transferring the image files to a dedicated folder on your device - I called my folder "icons" for example. Then in your launcher (I use Nova), you can edit the app icon shortcuts on your home screens, by long pressing on them, and choosing "edit". Then touch on the icon image that's being used, navigate to where your icons are, and select the one you want in there. Hopefully that helps!
I download the icons to Dropbox, then export to gallery/sd storage. Then use Nova to edit. Works for me to support several devices.

Downloading Icons from forum

I'm completely new to the android scene just want to know the procedure on downloading icon packs from here on the forum to my G3 phone like for example I want to download icon from seriously crazy how do I do that?
Download the zip
Unzip it and save it somewhere
They are in png format
Now if you use any 3rd party launcher e.g Nova, put the app on your desktop and long press to edit icon. Now choose gallery/quickpic to choose the folder and your choice of icon.
