Re-Branding To Orange - HTC One X

Possibly one of the most strangest questions ever asked, ah well.
Is there any way to re-brand my device to an Orange one? My phone came in-branded from Carphone Warehouse but because of feautures like Orange Wi-Fi and stuff it would make more sense for me to be branded.
Would this require for me to change my CID though?

Can't be done - you'd need to take it back to CPW and then get one from Orange directly

If you are on orange use Google Play to download the apps, both Orange WiFi, and My Orange (the account software) can be downloaded. I got my phone from P4U unbranded.

I know but Orange has another Wi-Fi application build directly into its devices that allows you to use the home wi-fi as signal, rather than the network.. it's amazing for battery.

I have unbranded Phones4U/Dialaphone One X but on an Orange contract - if anyone can verify this and work out if we can set up our phone to do this that would be amazing!

I did it with an un-branded HTC Desire HD, however that was before the boot loader were locked so I reckon it has something to do with that, also there may not be an Orange RUU knocking about

Is it this you're referring to - just found it on Orange's website...
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...=OUKService&t=Service&cid=1306843176798&tab=2
I assume only branded Orange phones came with the Signal Boost app pre-installed, so we need to find out if unbranded HOX's on Orange can get it from somewhere. I am also running stock rom at the moment and don't want to root my phone just yet...

Wow i want this!

Weird - I'm on a branded Orange handset and I don't have a "Signal Boost" application.

Just found a list on oranges website, looks like the phone has to be UMA compatible for signal boost - http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/446693

Not strictly true. It could bedone but needs S-OFF
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Signal Boost aka UMA isn't available for the One X on Orange. Applying the Orange branded firmware would be pointless if you're trying to get this as it isn't supported. The Orange branded firmware is basically a theme, a startup/shutdown animation, locked default Orange APNs and the Your Orange app preinstalled
Signal Boost isn't just an app either. You need the UMA RIL and the RIL switcher also. People have extracted it from other phones but they're all Gingerbread phones and have different basebands anyway.

Signal Boost doesn't require S-OFF as you don't alter the baseband at all. Just unlocking via HTCdev would work assuming you actually had a compatible UMA RIL + RIL switch.

Signal Booost ICS Orange ZIP CMW
Hello One X owners, just happened to stumble upon this thread looking for the answer as to whether orange included signal boost in the one X for my girlfriend.
I happen to have extracted all the files needed and created a flashable zip.
I did this for the SGS2 however i see no reason when looking through the files that this wouldn't work on the One X.
Here's a link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663778 if anyone wants to try this then feel free but beware it may soft brick your device. But i would be very interested to know the results. If it comes up as a bad zip, i will need to rebuild the zip with an update updater script for the HTC filesystem.
Please post in my thread linked above if you have any results.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:20 PM ----------
Btw if this doesn't work people, if someone could get me a download link for the Orange Branded Firmware for the One X, i would be happy to extract the files needed and rebuild my zip but as i say, try the one above and let me know in my thread.
Thanks

Btw, this can be done. You just simply need to flash the orange firmware containing the package and hey presto, you are orange branded..
Now coming from a Samsung based android background i have no idea how to flash roms on the One X, but on the S2 flashing stock roms is incredibly simple.

Signal boost is available on my Orange UK branded One X.
I've just noticed it so it may have been included in the 4.0.4 update pushed out in September.

Tried flashing on my one x, nothing shows up in apps drawer. Running ARHD 9.7.0.
edit - went one step further and installed the apk out of the zip file, now the app is in my drawer but it FC's on open.

it is available on one x it came with the 2.17 official update in the uk as i had it on mine untill flashed custom rom

Froyo update for Asia/Singapore?

Bros,
All I heard so far is the Froyo update will roll out in Europe this weekend. So how about Asia/Singapore area? Is there anyone here from Singapore? and any news about it?
My phone is not lock, will I get the OTA update?
Hope to hear from you guys.
Still undisclosed
I tried contacting HTC regarding this a few days ago, you can read their reply here:
www[dot]jatyap[dot]com/2010/08/froyo-release-date-for-htc-desire-in-asia-still-undisclosed/
Sorry I can't post links yet...
SEA have yet to receive an OTA update (1.21.xxx.x) that Europe received prior to this 2.2 update...not sure if hTC will release it all at once, but i'm afraid that it will take some time before SEA receive the 2.2 OTA...but i do hope i'm wrong...
I think the SEA codes are
1.19.707.7 and 8
Sorry, misread your post.
However, most Desire users currently already run Eclair (Android 2.1 update 1).
I think this was the latest release prior to FroYo.
Are you talking about the build numbers?
1.21.x.x - Europe
1.19.707.x - Asia
is what I read... There are a few other numbers if you care to look them up.
You can do a manual update if you like. I did last night and took me 1.5 hrs. It doesn't require a genius to do it.
There's another thread, I just followed it and now enjoys froyo.

flightposite, where are you located? Is this possible without rooting the phone? Can you give us the location of that thread?
I'm located in Simei.

I may sound dumb, but I have no idea if It's rooted or not. I got my phone one month ago and have no background whatsoever.
But hey, at least I'm smart enough to follow the instructions and upgrade to froyo. : -)

yup, that that's the number i'm talking about...
IIRC, europe devices receive an update before 2.2 update...this update includes an updated radio which is required for the 2.2 update, but SEA has yet to receive this update, thus making me feel that the 2.2 update for SEA will take some time...
honestly i feel like flashing the 2.2 update using the methods described in xda, if it doesnt arrive anytime soon...
i would suggest you go ahead and do the manual flashing of the ROM and updating if you can stomach the Goldcard creation. Its considerably complicated and enough things can go wrong for the risk to be there.
I believe the official update for asia is at least one month away. In europe even the operator-locked handsets will take a couple of weeks to get their 2.2
I did mine and took less than 2 hours.
It isnt rooted at all. Just using a different original HTC ROM.

are we able to flash back to the Asia ROM when froyo is made available for Asia ROM to get back the warranty? I don't think HTC will know about it.
Stan79 : htc will know about it. Happened to a friend who is using the nexus one. He had to send a few e-mails and make 2 trips down to the service centre in harbour front to get it sorted. Oh by the way the service centre sucks big time. I have been there twice and have been trading e-mails with them for the last 2 months to get my phone sorted out. Till now i still have a buggered phone.

I like how HTC is an asian company and the users in asia are always one of the last to get any updates. Happen when i was using the touch pro 2 as well, waited forever for wm6.5 update.

Telus Mobility T989D

Hello,
This device will be launching on Oct 28.
I need to know if something needs to be extracted for dev use before we root our phones. I plan on rooting this as soon as i get it, so if the devs need anything, it would be a good idea to tell me what and how to extract it. Im new to the rooting/hacking idea but im a computer technician so a simple explaination will be enough.
Cheers!
My only hope is that it isn't too much different from the 989, I also hope that there aren't as many issues with the screen as the T-Mobile version :/
actually, i was hoping to capture an original image before we even root the phone
just in case we need to flash back for warranty purposes
your best bet is to contact bubby323 that have already created one for the Tmo USA version

Does the telus version have the vertical line and blotting issue?
I'm pretty sure it's the same manufacturing line for the t-mobile version. Just a different carrier lock and ROM added in the end.
Up until the software, I don't see why they would manufacture it differently.
So i do suspect that it has the same issues as the t-mobile. Perhaps a smaller percentage since there isn't as many in canada and hopefully the QC got better for the second batch.
I do doubt it's as wide-spread as it appears on the forums. They've probably made millions of these phones that are perfectly fine.
bought my phone in downtown Montreal this morning,
screen is fine.
dont know what date is was manufactured, i cant seem to find the information...
i'll take some snapshot of the screen in a dark room when i get home

While the ideal test would be to put it against a Sprint unit that are known to have good screens, it may still be useful to put it next to a T-Mobile phone and take pictures while running the test described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320942
This would at least show us any differences between T-Mobile and Telus displays.
2 questions:
Are these telus branded? i.e. is Telus logo on the face of the phone like the T-Mobile version or does it just say samsung.
Can one root and unlock it to use on rogers or must one buy unlock code from online site?
Could you test the screen and see if it has issues as our tmous screen?

Debrand O2 one x?

Went and picked up my one x today and to my disappointment it is o2 branded, couple of apps i cant uninstall and boot and shut down screens but the problem is how long ill have to wait for updates etc... anyone been successful in debranding? Maybe trying to flash the stock europe ruu?
If not I may just root and install ARHD but tbh I just fancied a stock rom and leaving it at that. Thanks.

Im going to have a go later today or tomorrow with a stock ruu, dunno if it will work, also I've put in a request already with o2 to unlock the phone, every little helps on the way to successfully debranding haha.

Ah you will have a sim free one mate, buymobile always send out sim free in my experience, I only got mine from o2 on another contract as it worked out cheaper than buying sim free lol, 180 for phone and then 10.50 a month, ridiculously cheap to be honest.

Updates are based on your CID and not the rom you are running. Flashing a stock WWE release does not mean you will get WWE OTA's. If you want updates as fast as they come from HTC, just keep watching on XDA and flash them when they are available
As far as debranding goes.. you can disable carrier specific apps via app settings. The boot/down animations are just regular bootanim and can be replaced if you are prepared to root. If not, those you'll have to live with for the time being.

Thanks for the reply i just tried this but it still shows as none when i use cmd "fastboot getvar cid" the cid getter app shows my cid as T-MOB005 which is correct so i wonder why fastboot getvar cid is showing as none???
With unlocked bootloader it's blocked one way of the system reading CID - this is to stop CID dependent HTC updates being flashed when you have unlocked bootloader. Obviously this app reads CID differently so all is well

Thanks for reply. But why would my cid be none in fastboot but correct in the app? my bootloader is locked and i have never unlocked it so surely it should show as T-MOB500 in fastboot and the cid getter app? Could this be a fault in the software? wish someone had the t-mobile uk ruu so i could see if it flashed cos the only t-mobile ruu i could get was 1.26.110.2 with the same radio (1.1204.90.13) as 1.26.401.2 but on my phone its running 1.26.110.5 with radio 1.1204.91.14

The fastboot method doesn't work properly for some reason on the One X. Run "adb shell getprop ro.cid" instead and it'll show you the CID.

To the OP - unless the build is 2.x you won't see anything more than we already have outside of the leaked ROMs

that sounds weird, with the 3 dots. i've read it on some pages for the AT&T version of the new firmware there is a setting for it, to switch it off. find it under gestures and buttons according to androidpolice. http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ers-remapping-options-and-maybe-closing-root/
Thanks Eddy just noticed, seems theres a flurry of activity this morning, someone recieved update in hong kong, not 4.0.4 or 2.15 still on 4.0.1

The AT&T version is now 2.x - this is just the 1.29 update going out to the Hong Kong unbranded handsets

2.15 is unlikely to be the final build version, I'm expecting it to be 2.2x like the One XL and One S
Got the update in hong kong today. Not really noticing any differences.

Yes, the so called 4.0.4 update should include this switch.
Not sure why HTC withhold this, maybe they want to directly jump to JB.

Yes, I'm in Hong Kong.
I can't find any changes yet except the machine is smoother than before.
I have a HK phone, I'm in the UK right now, just got the update.
This is the second 1.29 for HK, it is probably equivalent to 1.29.401.11, so should solve missing storage space and flickering, if you had those problems.
It could be equivalent to .12, we need to compare radio versions, I guess.

15 is newer.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
The update is 72.9MB
HTC just said the update improvement performance.
Test it for whole day. This is what I have noticed so far.
Speed improved when loading very large web page.
Bettery improved during 3G call.
Power consumption became normal in some mini games.
Faster charging time.
Less heat generated.
Seems more lag in facebook app. But seems battery improved.
The screen seems consume less power just got less then 40% after the update. It used to be 58%. However, it looks less contrast. (Nvidia PRISM??)

Indeed are there any official documents list out the updated items?

Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum but have been reading your phone reviews for a while and really pleased with the help and advice you have given in the past. I have the new HTC one X and never had any issue that other people have complained about etc etc, not one problem at all. its never overheated, never crashed, or had screen issues - BUT as soon I installed the new update my phone has been crashing all day. When my phone rings it turns off, when I leave it alone it reboots, half way through a conversation it reboots. I have not installed any additional apps after the update and as far as I know its only started after the update?? Also my battery is getting milked to death.
Also I am not that computer savvy so please keep the English in layman's terms!!!
Please help shed some light on this as I have been loving this phone, but its completely killing me at the moment.
Thanks again guys

If you don't mind losing your data, then Iwould suggest a factory rest.

Good plan. I guess if all else fails then I will have no choice. Is there a way I can save all my downloaded apps before I do full reset? Picture and videos not an issue, but some of the apps are huge files and don't really want to spend all day downloading them again.
Again, thanks for all your help.

well it's still 4.0.3....
what i concern about about is what enhancements have the update brought to our phones...
Hi,
I did not have to reset my phone in the end, very strange, I just let my battery die and gave it a full charge with the phone switched off. The next morning switched it on and perfect again. Very happy
Thanks
