New to the SG2 and first ROM I flashed is darkside evolution. I love it so far but had a question about the battery life. I usually unplug my phone around 7am and by the time I get home from work (5:45 pm) I am at about 30% battery. I only use the phone to chat, web, and email when I get the chance without being on wifi.
I am reading that people are getting good battery life from this ROM and want to know what your % battery you have remaining at the end of the day.
Over the exact same timeframe, I ended the day with maybe 60-65% yesterday with Bluetooth on the whole day and infrequent usage.
I was on the same ROM before and I can say that I had very similar battery life as yours, around 30% after around 10 hrs and 2 hrs display on time. Battery use is a very subjective matter and I have seen other posts where battery life far exceeded my experiences. I was overall very happy though as the battery life was the same, if not better than stock. With the added performance improvements from the ROM it is very reasonable.

I started having a problem yesterday, but I've been tinkering with my stuff a lot for my theme... The problem is it won't deep sleep and I can't figure out why...

Generally, crappy reception means crappy battery.
Touch Recovery brakes the Deep Sleep
I had the exact same problem using DarkSide ROM.
I read that Touch recovery has a buggy that kills the Deep Sleep. So I went and flashed the ROM with Non-Touch recovery and Voilá...
Deep Sleep is back working like a charm.
I advise you all that are having battery issues to try to use Non-Touch recovery to flash this ROM.
This is where I read it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25771623&postcount=5
I had wifi and data on most of the time and i got my phone to go for 17 hours and I'm at 30% right now. I've had the rom installed for 2-3 days and gone through 2 charge cycles from 100 to 0 and then recharge.
how important is it too do the charge cycles and how do you check what type of recovery you have? also, what app did you use to see if your battery was sleeping?
im only getting 6 hours of battery life using juggernaut and darkside kernal. what could the problem be here guys?

I have had great battery life. With light use right now(send text messages all day on the phone for 5 minutes) I am at 75% for 12 hours. Under moderate to heavy use after 12 hours I am at 50%. I keep wifi and GPS on the whole time and the screen to max brightness.

Hi guys.
Just thought i give you guys a heads up if you are having battery drainage. I know i have my other thread regarding battery tips but this is more of a heads up and what to do to stop this wakelock for now.
Right if you are rooted first thing i would suggest download BetterbatteryStats from here on xda. Thread is here. Once you have installed that on your phone make sure you fully charge your phone. Once that is done just use your phone as normal. Say once your battery has dropped down to say 60% check the partial wakelocks. I bet you guys any money that the first thing you will see is AudioOut_3 wakelock. Now if you have your phone on silent and only onto vibrate then you will not have it.
But for those of you that have lockscreen sounds on, touch screen sounds on and dialpad touch tones on then you will have massive wakelock. I had this same problem with my S2.
Only way to beat this. Settings - Sound - system and untick the first 3 options. Reboot and charge your phone and then check the difference. You will see that the wakelock is not as high as it use to be.
Hope this thread will become useful to few of you guys out there and if you guys know any other way that we can keep the sounds on and keep that wakelock at bare minimal please give your feedback here.
Better explanation for this wakelock can be found here in the bottom link
https://github.com/asksven/BetterBatteryStats-Knowledge-Base/wiki/AudioOut_1
Im still getting these wake locks even after following your advice. any ideas?
Thank you for your advice but I also still have the AudioOut_3 wake lock and I have had my phone tones turned off since I got my phone and generally have it on Vibrate. Could it be something else?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
you two should read here more about it...it is basically the same thing that i suggested to do but users go into more indepth of how to advice to tackle it..so if you are using dsp manager that could be another reason or if you are listening to music ie using poweramp and not exiting the player properly that can also cause the wakelock.

Plain and simple. You have music that drains your battery, gmail that sucks your battery as well or gtalk if you use that, turn the sounds in settings off and just leave the notification one if you want and ringtone, switch the rest off and for gmail just use autosync. regarding maps if you do not use them uninstall or freeze them, poweramp make sure you always come out of the app when you finish listening to music

ringtones is on mute though and gmail is already on autosync(can only be autosync or manual).
i will check poweramp as well and make sure i exit it properly(doesnt android take care of that automatically?)
i cant use taskKiller to kill poweramp though?

yeah u can. or just go to settings-apps find poweramp and force close it. and it should but if you are using a widget it still kinda detects in the background from my own experience. and check if you have touch keypad tones as off, lockscreen tones as off and same for dialpad tones as off
what can i do about gmail?
also, i only sue poweramp maybe a maximum of an hour or two

leave it on autosync that is how i have it..or go into settings and accounts and sync and put everything on manual sync. that will save you bit of juice..plus if you do not use maps freeze it or uninstall it.

Well, there's your problem. You were in a dead zone for an hour and a half, and you spent 3.5 hours in areas with poor reception.
Another part of it is the audio_out wakelock, but I doubt it would be using up as much power as having your phone blast out the max possible output to try and claw back reception for an hour or two. My suggestion is just to turn on airplane mode when you know you won't have any reception, you will notice a drastic spike in your battery life.

rigtone volume is off though and when i listen not music i do some for only a couple of hours a day using hedfones.
About poor signal, that is hard to know without keeping an eye on your phone all the time. im at work most of the day and the signal is usualy great

You still have bad signal. Specially if you are using 3g and the phone is trying to.find signal that causes drain alone from what you can read

After getting AudioOut_3 Wakelocks for a couple of days running, I'm starting to think that it can be caused by playing games, listening to music and watching videos. AudioOut_1 might be to do with the lock sounds but I have no problem with that. Just noticed that the more I played games and watched YouTube clips, the higher AudioOut_3 wakelock is. Maybe the app is still draining if not exited properly?

I have been saying that all along my friend but no one seems to be listening so i gave up. pay a closer look at widgets. Specially music widget. When you do not use it to play a song the screen is empty and there is no title on the music widget. once you start listening to music though and you finish say after half an hour, once you finish still on the music widget you see that the song is still there on pause. my opinion it still thinks you have it paused and still would keep the phone awake even if you put the screen off. so best think do not have a music widget on your homescreen. just giving you an example. same goes with a game. if you exit a game make sure you do that properly..or else you still know it is running in the background
This is all a big red herring. The 'drain' people are seeing from media and audio is so trivial that it is worth ignoring (20 seconds of partial wakelock here and 30 seconds there).
In all the screenshots and dumps posted, the answer to what is causing the lion's share of the drain is staring the user right in the face. If people have issues correctly interpreting BBS output, they should post in a thread where they can be given appropriate advice.

True mate and i am not denying what you are saying. I only wanted to let people know what could be a cause for battery drain to their phones as i encountered it and it does suck your battery and it did mine. I only wanted to let people know about it hence why this thread. For more advice and better explanation yes i do send them to BBS thread. But for you to basically turn around and say i am talking BS and can not help people if i was you i would try and rearrange your post mate. It is informing people and helping out each other. Hence why this thread. Did not come out and say i can help people or i know better. And for you to say it is only a 20 to 30 second wakelock then you are clearly mistaken as people have faced this wakelock and i am not the only one. So if you want to preach go ahead. But learn on how to put it properly instead of saying i do not know what i am talking about
The guy who posted the screen shot had like 20m wakelock..so were you are getting the 20 to 30 seconds i think you might need glasses to read second there are links in the first page were people can read about it more and how to counter it. Third it is not that hard to use google to search the wakelock and find solutions..this thread is merely to inform people about this wakelock and how much drain i had just by having sounds on
First I was on TDJs Evo 2 Beta 2, I flashed it using Touch CWM, I noticed yesterday, using CPUSpy To confirm, it's not going into deep sleep.

what is that?
If I run "dumpsys power" in Terminal Emulator I notice towards the end a line about
FULL_WAKE_LOCK .... .... "cscupdateservice.."
SO I flashed AOKP using non-touch CWM and used darkside super wipe, all the proper steps, still wont sleep. I have not restored ANYTHING using titanium backup.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I've removed the battery entirely just incase something was stuck, still not working. Is CPU Spy not working correctly on ICS, or is something going on ?
Thanks for all the help guys.

What I notice is that I stop restoring data. For some reason apps always have process running and never die also try reflashing a rom and waiting 20 minutes and then rebooting. I know devs say 10 but I just wait a little longer. To ensure everything is settled. Then reboot and wait like 5 minutes.

You probably have corrupt data somewhere. To fix it you would have to format emmc, system, and sd card. But back whatever you dont want to lose forever. Like pics and things.
now that u mention it, my phone stay 60% at 384mhz and 20% on deep sleep today...hmmm this is weird, i uninstall download manager let see if that work.
This seems to solve it however I was getting issue with start up, some gaaps foreclose, also could not make calls but might be because I switch to fully 4g mode and no gsm

You sir were right, my media scanner was taking an awful long time at boot, I took all my important stuff off the sd cards and formatted then put the stuff back, works fine now.
G1 - I had that problem too, don't freeze download manager, it screws up gapps. Just clean your sd cards

Hey everyone,
About three weeks ago I noticed that my battery appeared to drain much quicker than before while running Calks 1.7 GB rom on EL26. I figured that this could just have been a bug so I upgraded to his 1.6 ICS 4.04 ROM flashing through recovery. However, this did not alleviate the issue. When I investigated this further it appeared that the phone is unable to efficiently enter a deep sleep. I have disabled all sync's and have no apps installed. After a full charge I get about 6 hours of battery life without using my phone once (and also in airplane mode). The Android OS kernel takes up 99% of the CPU usage. I downloaded Better Battery Stats and created a dump file here:

Horrible reply for xda, your post looks like a Yahoo answers reply. You didn't even read what he wrote.
To op, if you are not using your phone as your post says, you definitely are installing a rogue app as your phone was awake for over 3 hours. Have you tried wiping? Also, battery monitor, whatever that is, appears to be significantly keeping your phone awake. Finally, it appears from the info above your phone was not in airplane mode the whole time as you suggest.
Also, on ics you can view data usage on a per app basis in the settings. Post a screen cap of that screen.

So just let the phone die if I leave it unplugged during the night? It is only lasting 6 hours remember.

Ok, sorry forgot. LOL
Well, from a full charge, let it sit for 2-3 hrs (I know, its tough) without touching it and post the log then.
Is this a brand new phone btw and are you giving the roms a chance to settle in for a couple/three days before judging battery life? The first day or two typically suck after flashing a new rom.
Edit: Oh, and being on ICS is definitely not going to help your battery situation. The GB rom is way more efficient. You may want to consider going back (the proper way, by odin EL26 stock kernel by Chris41G) and doing a fresh format and install.
Well, it seems that my issue with the battery drain is resolved. It appears that the phone was constantly waking up because of a glitch in the USB, making the phone repeatedly turn on and think it is in car mode. This glitch also prevented the phone from recognizing the USB every so often for charging. I took a q-tip and gently wiped down the connectors inside the port and it seems to have made a more secure connection. I now get 20+ hours on a full charge with limited use, and the phone is going into a deep sleep.
Hi all!
My wife's Gio has a problem with batterydrain. It needs to be recharged after 10hours, but she isn't using the phone very active.
I've made a logfile with BetterBatteryStats, but the only thing I see is, that deep sleep is working fine...
Can some-one help me to find the problem? (phone is rooted, ROM is GingerDX)
Thanx!

I think you turn on the wifi for so long. Wifi drains quite a lot of battery. For me, even I turn on wifi and do nothing, it can only stand for about 9 to 10 hours (it depends) and the battery level drops from 100% to less than 15%.
Also, it seems that quite often there is no signal. As I know, when there is poor or no signal, the phone will keep on searching for signal and it will drain battery.
Re: [Q] Battrydrain, analyse with BetterBatterijStats
If I disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, why should I have a smartphone? I also have a gio with the same rom but my battery isn't draining that fast...
Re: [Q] Battrydrain, analyse with BetterBatterijStats
Why would you turn it off?
Because Gio has the same problem as all other smartphones: a bad battery life.
If you leave your wifi, bluetooth and GPS on all the time; even when you're not using it, your battery will quickly get drained.
If your battery gets drained too fast,
You have 3 options.
1) Turn these things off when you're not using them.
2) Buy a bigger battery.
3) Buy a 'regular' phone
At the moment smartphone equals bad batterylife.
And it will stay like this for a while,
Until scientists come up with a better type of battery.

Re: [Q] Battrydrain, analyse with BetterBatterijStats
I know it's just a cheap phone, but before flashing the rom the phone worked without charging for 14 hours. That is enough, but now it's hard to get 10 hours...
So I hope to find what causes the battery drain.
download setcpu so if you screen is of it you less battery the best setup : 245/245 or something like that
Re: [Q] Battrydrain, analyse with BetterBatterijStats
Wifi is not the problem. Im not a battery expert but it looks to me that the phone stays at top CPU 800MHz for way too long since the phone you said your wife doesnt quite use it that much.. Also signal might be your problem there buddy! Too much time without signal. And as someone here said it can burn your battery really fast!
From my experience even though my phone has great battery life i keep it running as slow as possible and as stable as it can get. I set my CPU to not pass 810MHz, i could use 1500MHz but my battery wont stay as long as it does on 810Mhz. And it runs the same just a liiiitlle laggier. Not that much of a big deal since my goal is to save battery.
Remember to turn off blutooth, gps, wifi WHEN NOT USED. You can use Wifi when ever you can. And it will save battery as your phone is not searching for 2g,3g signal
Try it and report back.

Re: [Q] Battrydrain, analyse with BetterBatterijStats
All you need to know do is:
- to switch to airplane mode when being in limited service areas
- you can install the cpu tweak mentioned above to set a costom freq when the screen is off
- use gps, bluethoot only when needed
- data network also drains battery in restricted or low signal areas
- watch the apps recently installed, maybe it drains your battery from background
- disable autosync, you can do it manual when using wifi.

I don't think it's a good idea to lower the maximum CPU-frequency, because maximum is 800mhz. So it is a quite slow phone, lowering the maximum frequency will be to slow
GPS and Wifi is turned off, wifi stays on because my wife is mostly at home.

From looking at your screen shots, it looks like you're losing signal for periods of time. Are you in a weak LTE area?
