I believe you'll find the drivers you need at the htc website, or I'm sure there is a post somewhere in here with a link

I tried 3 versions of drivers and its didnt work...
Anybody could send me a working drivers?
btw: i also installed htc sync and i tried to use his drivers
Are you letting windows pick the drivers or are you manualy doing it

i did it manually...
I also tried the visionary method but still doestn work...****i*** phone there is no more patience....
How did you get S-OFF and ROOT?
Which method did you use for do it?
Used the wiki 4 times now, this is the only "safe" method. Oonly once did I have issues (the third time) but I blame it on drinking too much. When I did I logged onto freenode and got great help from there. Nipqer in paticular.
Its easy and the best thing for your phone! If you are having issues I suggest going there #g2root

You can't use fastboot yet, you still have safe on. Google htc g2 wiki root. Or go to the wiki in xda and look for the vision. Not at a computer or id grab you the link. Here you will find the appropriate way to downgrade and root your phone. You can also go to the cyanogen wiki the instructions are the same

*EDIT*
As for drivers, I always recommend downloading PdaNet to get the drivers if windows doesn't recognize them properly. http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php You don't need to use PdaNet program, but install it and it will ask who is the manufacturer of your phone, select "HTC" and it will install the drivers.

hey guys,
tried everything in my knowledge to try root my desire, going through tutorials on this forum and other forums but seem to get stuck in the same place,
when using the r4 or r5 root method on the step2 part where you try push the files to the phone itself , it cannot find the device
'error: device not found'
ive tried rectifying this by making sure usb debuggings on,
my desire is t-mobile branded so ive been using a goldcard, first of al used the gold card generator thanks to klutsh then when i thought that was the problem i tried making my own with the help of the guide on this forum,
,
just seem stuck in a rut at the moment ,
if some one could shed some light spent houses yesterday trying to figure it out
BTW ive used the windows and tinycore methods
my radio is 4.05.00.11
t mobile uk
on 0.75 base and 1.15 rom
You need a gold card, make sure the one u made works! Even try making it again, i was getting the exact same error on my unbranded desire, i tried lyk 10 times, i made a goldcard and was rooted 5 mins later
yeah tried 2 different ways going to try my wifes sd card when shes back also going to try linux
think win xp sp3 has issues connecting to the phone so.....
ill see how linux goes
Maybe its somthing diffrent mate but until i made my goldcard adb was giving me the exact same device nt found error! Can you use fake flash without root? Maybe just try flashing, rootedupdate.zip from recovery?
not tried using fake flash , tried with a different sd and its the same
think must be something to do with the gold card like you said,
what tutorial did you use?

Hey sutty86 I had same problem.I tried rooting unbranded Desire with r6 method. I have windows 7 x64.No luck. Then I switched to Ubuntu x64 and right from start everything gone OK.It is probably windows x64 drivers problem.
I had this problem too on Win7 x86 but I installed HTC Sync and rebooted my computer and it worked like a charm.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
It's a driver issue. As suggested above, double-check the HTC Sync installation or use the Linux rooting method.

The bootloader is as i see it verion 0.92.
I have tried now 3 different Micro SD cards as goldcards and with the goldcards was never a problem. When i com to following point of the Tutorial:

hmmm.... i find that a little to risky, but i gues it is just a question of time until a rootflash will be available for the new hboot... Don't you think?
The method you are trying downgrades your phone's software so I'm not sure why you think it's less risky. Also it'll never work on your phone (which might be a good thing, as if you have SLCD, it'd brick the screen).

So understanding you correctly: For the moment there is no way to have a modified rom on my sLCD Htc Desire?
There is; downgrade your bootloader and use a rom with slcd support. If you are afraid to do it, then don't. If you don't want to spent time finding the correct information, you should not root imho. Btw, this forum has a good search function, plus a sticky with all the info you will need.

I'd strongly suggest you *don't* follow that thread. Also, it will downgrade your system. As has already been said this is the ONLY way to root the phone.

Now i'm confused.
You say this does the downgrade and here it sais "don't" do the downgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748498
If you have hboot 0.92 then you have froyo, and you cannot root without downgrading down to android 2.1.
The thread you are looking at is out of date. The information you are given now is up to date.

All right.. Got it...
So let's do a summery:
- I need to do a downgrade of the hboot
- then i need to aply the brick fix as i have a SLCD
- then i do the root flash
- then i again the brick fix
- and finally i can do the mod upgrade (where maybe after i need to do the brick fix again?
is it important to do the goldcard after the downgrade of the hroot or can i do it when ever i want?
BTW: I'd like to flash LeeDrOiD V2.0a mod with EspressoTheme
No.

First of all thank you for your reply.
Primary I've done it in MacOSX.
Afterwards I repeated it on Win 7, I was following this guide:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
for driver installation.
But, same result.
Is there way to make a TOTAL HARD reset, and maybe redo rooting with the latest unrevoked?
Download the Slax iso and the create a bootable cd, then download unrevoked 3.2.1(for linux) and save it onto the flash.
Boot from slax cd, copy files from flash to desktop, install and follow the onscreen instructions with unrevoked.
I had no issues in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate using unrEVOked so can't really comment, sorry

It's ubuntu dependencies, you should have libstdc++ installed.
try sudo apt-get install libstdc

Go for it ... i see no reason why you shouldnt be able to root and then let us know how it went.
Its strange that some people running HBOOT 0.93 have issues rooting, were any of your phones branded? I read somewhere that vodafone or something with this hboot gives issues when trying to root
I have HBOOT 0.93.0001 and I could root fine.
now i get this error message with using ubuntu live cd:
no device found and in phone bootloader tells me the version would be older....
maybe it depends on the new rom i am havin now?
I have 0.93.0001 and rooted fine with unrevoked3
That hboot 0.93000001, was released as an OTA. This also updated my Desire to that new hboot version. Maybe a try to prevent rooting?
My desire was rooted before but I unrooted it because it needs sending to htc. It's suffering from random reboots when it gets hot. It reboots, then vibrates 7 times. Google it, a lot of people have this problem.
I'm hoping I'll be able to root again when I get it back, because I just neeeeeed to run MIUI..
Ah the above comment comforts me I'll just try unrevoked again.
i tried Unrevoked and all downgrade tools , but always have problem some where , but main problem that after the phone reboot it's always can not find the phone and give me error , i recheck the adb many times and used Linux and windows 7 64 bit .

This is the first time I messed up a phone. I rushed into this root thinking I knew more than I did. Quite the humbling experience to say the least. I definitely won't make that mistake again.
That being said, does anybody have any other advice for me or anything else I can try?
1) turn it off (take out and reinstall the battery)
2) Press "volume down" and power up. Fastboot menu should show up.
3) select Factory Reset
and wait to see if it boots.
try not to root using visionary. Use the gfree method to do it. Much safer in my opinion.
I forgot to mention that factory reset never makes it past the htc screen either.

If you are back to S-On and can't run adb shell, that's it .......there's nothing else you can do for your phone, sorry to say but you are out of options.
Heres the quote you really didn't want to read:

Hello,
I have a phone that is now stuck at white screen with green htc logo after an attempt to downgrade following this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
However i had already downloaded a PC10IMG.zip with this tool :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521019
I first tried using the tool, but it always failed. It seemed to me the script failed on getting temproot. (I then manually downloaded the PC10IMG.zip in the .bat file just incase it was a problem with the wget it uses or something)
After that i followed the guide instead and gained temproot, changed version and gaining supercid through the goldcard method.
I then tried downgrading using the manual method using the PC10IMG.zip mentioned above (Its alot smaller than the ones mentioned in the guide. I have a suspicion it is for another phone perhaps). Bootloader recognized it and started "upgrade" process as expected. After it worked with that for a while it rebooted and since then I have been stuck on the white/green splash screen on normal boots.
I can still get into Hboot, but I cant do anything there. Nothing seems to work there. Neither volume +/-, trackpad nor powerbutton does anything.
I can also get into fastboot. This seems to work better, but when i try to flash the image then it just gives me :
D:\platform>fastboot-windows flash zip StockRom.zip
sending 'zip' (291447 KB)... FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)
HBOOT screen shows me the following:

I havent tried altering the contents of my SD card in fear of making things even worse.
Any tips/tricks/hint would be greatly appreciated!
Got some rather excellent help from #g2root to fix this today.
My main problem was that I had flashed the wrong img and that my Golden SD was not working correctly. Got that sorted out by using another SD and made it golden in another device.
Then proceeded to upgrade it to the newest g2 software (since that was what i had tried to do in the first place. Namely using the g2 img in a Desire Z device), downgrade it, rooted it and installed the necessary tools to get Andromadus running

Not with an HTC Vision, you can't... You need an PC to do this.
That's too bad. The G2 used to easy. Thanks for the reply!
Edit: So that goes for the G2 aswell correct?

This is your problem, adb can't see your phone. Was it up and running when you tried this ? If so it's your adb setup. Have you used adb before on this phone ? See my signature for a link to a guide to setting up adb.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.

For the G2 there is a new program called mr. root, wich makes everything a bit easier, but you still need an computer to do it. So that's correct indeed.
From memory that 99 error means you used htcdev.
You can find more info on that here

The cmd's seem to be working from the cmd prompt. for example the phone did go into boot loader.
The phone is in a state where it will not boot up. Fails on the htc logo.
However boot loader is not functioning, every time it directs me to clock work orange mod screen. Which does not function either
Same problem!!
Hi, im really new here, and i googled the 'symptoms' of my broken HTC desire Z and this thread came up. My phone is showing exactly the same writting as what you described, but i really really dont know why. i dont know what all these technical terms mean/do but i REALLY miss my phone and want it to work again!! I would really really REALLY appreciate any help anyone could offer me, because the warranty is up so i cant send it back!
Thank you so much!
So to get this straight, you've tried to root your phone and it went wrong. If so, can you still get into your recovery?
-Turn off phone, hold down the power and volume up button. Then ou should get your bootloader. Once that's loaded slelect recovery with your volume buttons and confirm (press "enter") by pressing your powerbutton. Then your phone should restart in recovery. If you haven't changed your recovery image, you should be able to get the stock ROM running again.-
