So... For everyone who is interested, this may be a tricky thing to do (and a simple thing). Reason being:
It may be controlled by an app, rather than by something in the ROM.
For instance: RetroCamera has an option to re purpose a button as a shutter button.
It probably isn't feasable to make this happen with the native app on the One X.
However, maybe an alternative application which allows this is possible.
Also, I noticed, if you use the volume up button as a shutter, your hand sorta blocks the camera, making it as awkward to hold as it would to just press the onscreen button. But anyhow - anyone know any other camera apps which let you select a hardware button?
The following apps I've found allow this feature:
Retro Camera (select hardware button)
Camera Zoom FX (a handfull of features and operations for various buttons and gestures).
(There are probably more, but I've lost interest, so who knows...)
*However* with the volume up button, it seems to stay activated after pressed: The camera just keeps snapping pics until you close it or press volume down, or change the setting back.

It would be really cool.

Use your bluetooth headset as remote shutter!
Use a Bluetooth headset as a remote shutter button with the HTC One X

I have tried this personally and it works on both my Sony Ericsson and iTech bluetooth headset. Both by double presses on answer button on BT headset.
Now need to find a tripod which can hold the One X. Would be perfect with Camera FV-5 with customizable shutter exposure.

a physical button may be indeed helpful!
BIG +1 for this one

I have the Jabra BT3030 Stereo Bluetooth Headset and it works by a double presses on answer button very well.
Hardware button will be better, but this BT solution is also really nice.
+1 for the bluetooth trick. Works fine with the roman x10 stereo headset from dx.
It's fun!
i spose when i get my pebble, it will be my shutter button
Does the beats headset included in htc sensation xl will workbin galaxy note in terms of playback controls?

don't know, usually they should work..
i even tried iphone earphones and they worked with all features
Use a software mod
Well, I think even if the controls are getting jammed you can use some mod software like headset control in order to make it work according to your needs.

Yes either that (JAYS Headset Control) which currently allows you to control your Android with only 1 button,
or you modify your headphones to work with android:

I've got my HTC a month ago,Europe version,Grey. No issues at all hardware or software,i stil can't belive the build issues people complain to One x.Maybe i got a good build.Everything works smooth, all in all perfect 5 but!!!I love my phone!Whenever i record video or audio,no matter what quality or resolution,if there is background music, something like pop, electro something a bit bassy and rich sound, the sound is all mesed up.Its not even, its high pitched, its highs are all right, but mids and low are garbage. Its frustrating to delete video just for the sound, could there be a fix in the update,is it only my device, what can i do to fix it,or should i give it back.It is very frustrating, video quality is epic, but audio recording is crap, glitchy, cracky.Even my Desire S has better audio recording.I tought it's that crapy speakerphone, but it isn't.This doesn't change if i open it from another device like my PC.Please help me iam at my wits end with this...
Facing the same issue!
Whenever I make video recording some thing on a houseparty it seems like it tries to balance the sound somehow,.. on my computer it sounds like 8 kbit quality or somethig
yeah I got that too, just tried recording my sons band and the sound is awful
I had the same issue when I enabled stereo recording in the camera app.
The only resolution was to disable the setting.

I too have noticed the same problem, video I took at a wedding was terrible. I am wondering if it is because generally when taking a video my hand seems to cover the microphone hole at the bottom, will need to take some more videos to verify.
Same here, overly compressed and squashed sound that doesn't make sense in a few videos.
I wish there was some way to get rid of all the Beats Audio and audio output files and replace them with the galaxy or sony xperia ones, unless it is a hardware compressor in which case it is a total design failure.

I dont think its covering the mic with the hand. I took care not too, using 2 different one x's and they were both the same. I have turned off the stereo recording now and will try again next time
Also, there's an option to enhance sound when you play videos through the gallery app. This has made things sounds strange for me too.
Same issue here.. Recorded at a party But the Sound is terrible.. My iPhone loving Friends will Make fun of My One X if I post this.. any Solution yet?

i'm on stock and have now tried just about everything possible to get reasonable sound recording in a party (music and talking and glasses etc) setting and its just not possible.
It's the built in noise cancellation feature during video recording that is doing this. No way around it AFAIK.
The same problem was in the HTC sensation. Still not forgiven HTC about that as they boasted stereo sound recording. HTC desire had similar poor recording but that got sorted in an update. Here's a thing to try. What happens when you use voice recording? Is the sound still poor? Gonna try now.

If the noise cancellation microphone is causing all of this there is a way to disable the alternative mic (in this case the noise cancelling microphone) with a simple build.prop command

You would need to be rooted. Open build.prop with a file explorer or text editor then add the lines in

I used the headset that came with my phone to record. I just need to transfer to my studio setup to test results with and without headset so I know it's no placebo. Also ordered a mini mic off eBay. Had one for my iPod but can't find it should come on Friday. If it works ill be using this.
Heya all, donno if this has been posted or not, but i found nifty trick to raise volume when listening to music on stock 4.1.1. (Headphone volume)
1. Plug in your headphones
2. Play a song on stock music player
3. Raise volume to max
4. Go to stock camera app and take a pic EDIT: You can also just "tap to focus", no need to take pic!
5. Your volume is raised!
I quess its something to do on how beats audio works and limits volume.
Let me know if it worked on your stock x,cheets

Yeah it's actually a bug... And a reboot definitely makes it go back to normal..i found that the volume rise causes some distortion so i dont like it much
The volume will rise everytime some notification or sound conflicts with music..

HTC One has build in amplifiers which amplifies the sound, that's why beats audio works on the speakers on the One!
In the case of our beloved HOX, the speakers would just crackle and distort... :silly:

It's only louder! Clarity is messed up!
There's a limit to the HOX speaker, you can use all the sound mods out there, but in the end you can't improve the hardware with sense5 or anything other software update!
Lets hope we get the Sense 5 within next month!

I was always wondering if someone else never found this little "glitch", i have been using it since last year and i find the sound on the HOX to be "unstable", as it is never the same loudness/bass, sometimes it gives more sometimes less, sometimes it is very good and sometimes crappy, but this helps everytime i use it is for my headphones and it works like a charm. :good:
So I made my own earphones, complete with forward, play and backward buttons some months ago. Back then I was using HTC Desire CM 10.1. They worked as expected on Apollo, PowerAmp, PlayMusic, MX Player etc etc. Call could be received and cut properly. Sadly the earphones don't work as expected on OneX with Mike's Sense5. The sound is perfect, but the controls don't work. At all.
I'd be happy if someone guided me how to get the controls working.
EDIT: Tried the PBMC Xposed Module but even that doesn't work. I'm monitoring the log and there is no entry for any buttons I press...
Bump
Please help me since I'm going crazy with having to switch on the screen and change the songs...
