Nitro Update - LG Nitro HD

When I turned my phone on today, a message appeared in my notifications about checking device and there was an icon that looked like a star.
Sent from my LG-P930 using XDA

aaaaaaannnnnddd?

I had the same exact star, but when I clicked on it a pop-up appeared and said something like the device manager was loading, but then it kind of froze. I checked for am update under settings - about phone, but nothing was available.
Sent from my LG-P930 using XDA

And.... same thing. I went to check for an update, but nothing. Sooooo, what the hell is this device manager?

Same thing.
It happened yesterday morning, then no updates available after checking for a phone update.

Second time this has happened with me, and nothing noticeable resulted either time.

Yeah, wish I could install it!

If this is the same star notification I have seen before, then it is just spam. I used to get them from time to time and it was just spam from some app I had installed. I wish I could remember which app, but it's been a while.

This happened to me.I clicked on it and my apn settings changed. It was at&ts way of using the original PTA apn because I was throttled.

You're saying if you get this message then that means you're throttled?

ics 4.0 is coming?~~

No, they just delete your new apn so they can throttle you when you hit 5 gigs. I leave it on a different apn so they don't throttle me

No you can't get rid of it, just have to wait until the next billing cycle.

We used to have a fix for this but T-Mobile closed it quick.
T-Mobile also pays attention to XDA threads, by the way.
I thought I saw a thread on resetting your apn (ie do a search for network)or something along those lines

Yeah, that will actually work for a while. So will changing your apn to voicestream. You'll have to reset every time you reboot or use wifi but it does in fact work

i just got throttled. i tried to do what they said on that thread but it doesn't work. i'm using cm7.1 stable. i also edited my build.prop like in the thread but nothing.

Just installed CM10 can't make calls or send texts

After installing a CM10 nightly data / WiFi are working but I can't make calls or send text messages. This is my first experience with a custom rom so I'm not sure what went wrong.
Do you still have you imei number in about phone/status?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I would check the IMEI as suggested above and flash again if the IMEI is still showing up.
My IMEI was set, but my phone number wasn't.
Thanks for pointing me to the right place.
Update, I jumped the gun on this being solved. I can call and receive texts, but I can't send them.

I see this posted a lot when trouble shooting here in the forums. What exactly is APN?
Access Point Name
It's basically the settings for what your uses to connect to the network.

I checked for that and I currently have two options:
Bell: pda.bell.ca. Currently checked
Bell flex: inet.bell.ca
I tried the second one but that didn't help
Edit n/m
Some googling led me to this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/SMSC_Updates
I tried all three styles but each one gave me an instant "update error"

I would make sure that none of your apps are set to auto update. Other than that you can use a third party app like traffic monitor to see what is using your data.

Open Google Play, select your menu button, select "my apps" and then check they are not set to auto update. You should also check settings and make sure auto update is not set as default.

Go into settings>data usage and it should tell you exactly what is using data and how much.

What does the data usage on the phone say?
Settings > Data Usage
That should tell you what app is using the data. It could be a whole bunch of things.
MobileAP widget was quite the culprit for unexpected data use on gingerbread.

This is not a Note 2 problem but an ATT problem. My mother had the exact same problem on a much simpler phone that didn't even have a data plan attached to it. I looked at her bill online and there were countless small data exchanges over a short period of time. I spoke to ATT and told them she doesn't even have a data plan and her phone is not one to use data. I had to forcibly block Internet data from exchanging back and forth on the account level. Obviously you can't use that as a solution. Don't let them tell you it's your device because chances are it's not.

I was able to fix it by full wiping and re installing JellyBam 7.3
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I had this happen a bunch of times with my skyrocket, then my ATT S3, and finally with my friends Verizon S3. I just deleted all the different APN s. Then manually entered the APN info that I saved on my skyrocket or a text file. All is well now. FYI I've always had a tough time figuring out APN settings even with XDA. So I actually got my APN info from an activated phone in an ATT store one day and have been using that since.
Definitely not well documented on these forums that I've seen anyway... Please correct me if I I'm wrong.

Sprint connection optimizer

I deleted the sprint connection optimizer from my phone and am now getting download speeds of about 1Mbps whereas before I was getting 150-200Kbps. It might just be me but worth trying out if you are rooted.

And unlocked. You can't remove apps unless unlocked. Or you end up in a boot loop.

I always remove it first thing on any ROM. Even on my GS3. It took up so much battery by itself by turning my wifi on and off and messing with my data.
So once rooted and bootloader unlocked would I just go to system/app and delete what? Is it the WiFiOffLoad.apk and the WiFiOffLoad.odex? Thanks

Is there any merit to this? How is deleting C.O. making your download speeds faster?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Whether or not this works for anyone else or why it works for me is unknown. All I know is that before and after the deletion my download speeds increased. Whether or not it coincided with a network improvement that is causing my speed increase I don't know.
I have compared my results with a friend with the same phone but is completely stock and my download speeds are significantly more than his.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Well it doesn't hurt to try. I'll check if it does anything to my speeds and report back.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I'm not sure if it's a fluke but it does seem that I am getting better download speeds. Top 2 scores are with C.O. uninstalled and bottom 2 are with C.O. Installed. Maybe you are onto something. I'll perform more tests later on since there isn't sufficient data to prove this yet.
Edit: Before I tested with/without C.O, I updated the PRL. Both internal/external IPs were different. No speed changes were seen without updating PRL with/without C.O. I doubt removing C.O does anything to increase speeds.
