[Q] Stock Rom and unrooting - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there was a way to flash back to stock and and unroot my evo 4g?
If so, where can I get a stock rom at?

You really need to provide more information in order for someone to help you. The most pertinent information will be found in your bootloader. Please report back your HBOOT version, Security status, and baseband (radio) versions.

Hey Thanks,
S-is off
hboot-6.16.1002
Radio-2.15.00.0808

I see that you are fairly new to posting in an xda forum and I dont want someone to slap you and call you a noob, not that Im doing that right now. But what you really need to do is use the search function of the forums. I had to unroot my cousins phone and I used the search function to find the info, you can even use google to find it. Unrooting is really easy to do, esp if you rooted your phone in the first place. It's just about the same processes.

Thanks,
Actually right after this post, I found it.
I'm already finished

No I don't believe I did. Can you help me out. Where would I find that update?

+1. People need to understand what they're doing before jumping right in.
OP- Now you'll have to go back to the nandroid backup that you hopefully did before flashing the ROM, unroot, upgrade the radio, and then re-root. You've created some extra, unnecessary work on your own part, but it will at least get you some more familiarity with these tasks.
Directions can be found with a quick search of the forum.

You really really really REALLY have to do your reading/research before making any changes to your phone's OS. If you would've read the very FIRST post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737400, you would not have missed the big red letters that state you MUST have the new radio or you will have issues with your phone and instructions on how to install it right below.
Now I assume you have to downgrade to 2.1, un-root, install the radio, re-root and then install 2.2 ROM. Can anybody confirm?
Good luck.

[Q] Stock Kernel

Hi guys, I currently have Buzz 1.0.6-OCUV kernel in my DHD.
I want tor revert back to my original kernel to check if ther are any system updates.
Does anyone know where I can get the original Stock DHD kernel?
I think I have a Clockwork recovery full backup of original - not sure though, can't remember if I did it from a fresh install .
I have had a hunt through the forums but cant seem to find anything - PS. I don't like how this DHD forum is moderated, it doesn't seem as easy to read/find things as the others I followed for my older devices
Am I missing something here? how can we get you the RUU when we did not tell us the original version that you were using?
Maybe I did not get your question

I have absolutely no idea, that's why I asked, I apologize for hijacking your thread
I think you have to get completely back to stock if you want to check for OTA updates.

[Q] T-Mobile G2 Cannot find firmware version. Help please.

Greetings, I did look for information here on the forum for 2 evenings. I cannot find any usable hint. Probably it is really too basic.
Anyway, I am trying to root and s-off this phone. I already did one - beginner's luck, I guess - without any problems using the wiki. On this one, I get an "[1] illegal instruction" as soon as I try to launch the psneuter.
So I do not have root. I tried it several times, re-read the wiki, I assumed I need to downgrade the firmware. Then I realized I do not know where to find it. The only place with similar info is Settings - About phone. But there I only find model number, Android version, baseband, kernel, build. In this order.
So please tell me how to check the firmware version, and if anybody can, what am I doing wrong that I cannot get root. I downloaded the files fresh and I do not get any error before adb shell ...psneuter. Thank you.
Edit:
I still do not know how to get to the firmware version, but after another factory reset, the procedure worked. Thank you.

On the About Phone screen, if the Android version is 2.3 then you need to downgrade

Thank you. The wiki is saying 1.75, 1.34 or something like that. That is what I was looking in the phone for. My Android version was 2.2 though, ok, thanks again.

If you're running 2.2, you're fine... no downgrade required. This is the method I used and it worked flawlessly:

[Q] Help With Virgin Mobile USA WFS

I just have bought the WFS on Virgin USA and I have some questions.
1.) I wanted to know if the LED Notification light can be changed to a different color.
2.) What is the difference between S-ON and S-OFF?
3.) I don't have like any internal memory on my phone, is there a way to get more? I know I could root and rom it but I have questions about that also.
3a.) How do I root the device. (I know that I can make it S-OFF by doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351409 )
3b.) If I decide to Root and Rom the device, can I make a backup of what it looks like now so if I decided to go back, there wouldn't be any issues?
3c.) Which ROM's are compatable with VM's version (I really would like one that is senseless and has as much internal memory as possible, because right now I can't put anything on it that I would like to.)
3d.) Would I be able to un-root and turn S-ON if needed to?
3e.) If I were to do this, would someone be willing to help me step-by-step with it?
Sorry that I have a lot of questions, but im a n00b. xD
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
*I have attached some screenshots of an error and how much space is left on the phone*
As far as I know about the only thing which can give you a decent amount of additional app storage would be link2AD which requires root. You can get a bit using the built in app2SD off the Android OS so that doesn't need root. You can find info about both here on XDA.

No, only green.

It's a security feature in the radio that prevents writing of unsigned images to the NAND flash.

You mean internal (flash) storage? Memory would be considered RAM, unless that's what you mean, because you have a lot of services and apps running. Either way, you need a ROM with apps2sd/data2sd/link2sd/etc., or you can download it separately, but you still need to be s-off'd and rooted first. (unless you find an official RUU with that already in it.)

Rooting and s-off are two totally different things.. but rooting is the same procedure for almost every phone.

Yes, you must first s-off your phone though, then flash clockwork mod custom recovery to backup everything on your phone, without any issues.

You can do both, but the second requires a serial-to-usb cable (max232 or dku5, etc.) so you can talk to the radio in AT interpreter mode.

Almost every thread has a step-by-step walkthrough so you should be okay, if not, just ask in that thread and someone will help you.

Ok, I'll answer as much as I can.
1) don't think so, just orange and green.
2)s-off just means htcs extra security is off, without it, no root or recovery.
3) until we get either cm7 or vm stock with a2sd support, we're screwed. You can root and pull some bloat. But sense is the real problem.
3a) in the development index (I'm lazy) there's a tut on rooting and installing Su after s-off.
3b&c) there's NO ROMs for the cdma version. But yes you can nand backup.
3d)I honestly don't know. I haven't heard of doing it .
3e) if you REALLY need help with s-off, pm me. But the threads short and the instructions are well written so you should get it.
Edit: I type sllloooowwwwww.

[Q] Obviously it is time I ask for help...

Ok, so, I bought an HTC One M8 a couple of months ago. I got it because I had an HTC Evo 4G. I had that phone since release and I loved it. I knew everything about that phone from inside an out. Had my own bootup screens. Had everything the way I wanted it. That phone was with me through it all. I dropped it in the toilet and it was not even phased. I broke the screen a couple times, bought new ones and installed them. I even knew of the super secret instant boot up to the phones app list with a secret button combo. As far as I know this was not published and I could not find any mention of it on the internet. Anyway..I figured it was time to update to a newer phone. Which after this long I am getting kinda frustrated.
Long story short, I want to go back to stock. I installed CM 12, nightly s. I like stock best. The problem is I did not get S-off before i switched. From what I can tell I need it. I figured it would be easy as it was on my Evo. I only can use Sunshine. Which is fine but I need to get back to stock to be able to do that(non debuggable rom). I want to change to super CID but I need S-off. So I can install some of the roms I have. I installed two backups of my stock system but they are both corrupt for some reason. I have tried a couple other methods and have gotten the answers, MD5 not recognized or checksum failed. I am not sure what that means. It seems I need to get S-off to fix. This is a fraction of the stuff I have tried. Want to keep this semi short. I also wrote a better question and the site did not save my work when I tried submitting it. So, sorry if this is not up to par. I dont want to write it all again.
I am only coming her because I truly need help, I have searched far and wide. Have some intermediate knowledge and still cant figure it our after two months. I have used google and the search function on this site. Still need someone to point me in the right direction is all. PLEASE!!!!!!!!
First step -- need to get to know your device better
Post fastboot getvar all result (delete serial no. & imei no.) then we maybe able to find right stock backup or RUU or ROM whichever is available.
What recovery are you trying to use as well. You're still on sense firmware so it shouldn't have any issues going back but the problem I could see is what version of android the Rom is on.
Once you post your getvar as stated above then we can see what firmware you're using.
Really no one will help me? You just have to point me in the right direction. I have no where else to go...I have exausted my skills.

You either missed the 2 posts previous to your latest; or purposely ignored the questions posed to you. We need more info in order to help you.
Also, its not clear to me that you even need s-off. Its not related to your recovery issues; and its not required to s-off to return to stock. You mention you want SuperCID (for which s-off is required), but you don't mention why you want SuperCID.
