Hello all, I've got a pair of noise cancelling earbuds (Audio-Technica ATH-ANC3, if it matters) that I've been using to listen to music all the while. With the One X I realise that when noise cancelling is on, a lot of static is introduced in the background. Switching it off makes the noise clean (but then I don't get to remove background noise)
I did a bit of testing and found that this affects only music (or radio) playback and that system sounds are not affected. Furthermore, enabling or disabling Beats audio will affect the texture of the noise. I've played back music using the stock Music app, PowerAmp as well as PlayerPro. Therefore, I am thus inclined to believe that the static is introduced somewhere in the audio pipeline. I've tried installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636914 with CWM to see if replacing the audio filters would do the trick... but it doesn't.
Any clues to remove all filters? I'm currently running a rooted stock 1.28/CWM.

Oh, and if it helps, I tried plugging the same pair of earbuds into a HTC Sensation (the vanilla edition) running ICS and it doesn't have the problem.
Another thing I discovered: if I take the output of the phone, pipe it to my computer via Line In, then listen to the audio via my earphones with noise cancelling on, I don't get the static.
Perhaps there's some frequencies being generated by the phone that's not agreeable to the noise cancelling circuitry? Plugging it to my desktop would filter those frequencies?

I have done extensive testing with both my HTC One and Samsung Galaxy Nexus regarding the phantom ringing noise that exists on bluetooth audio. This issue is not only present on streaming bluetooth audio but also present when the sound file is kept on the actual phone (using Google Play Music). So far I have tried the following:
1) Tried multiple roms both sense and aosp - the ringing/buzzing noise still exists on both (DEFINITION - PHANTOM RINGING/BUZZING NOISE - a buzzing series of overtones that exists particularly when listening to jazz music that has a lot of ride and crash cymbals being played) As a professional musician, this can be quite annoying.
2) Tried going back and forth between bluetooth and auxiliary cable on both phones (HTC One and Galaxy Nexus), trying AOSP vs. SENSE roms, streaming vs. non streaming. Both phones and all roms have the same issue present, the bluetooth audio has a fuzzy clarity to the cymbals. It is worth mentioning that the AOSP roms are slightly better in terms of less Phantom ringing/buzzing but far from perfect.
My question is, does anyone have a fix for this? I paid big bucks to have Bluetooth installed in my car and really want to use it.
The auxiliary cable sounds good until you plug your phone charger in.....that presents an even larger noise issue. Please help.

if 2 phones and different roms still cause the problem then it might be your BT system.
what music player are you using / do any of them have an EQ system you can adjust.

I am using an Audiovox Media bridge, however, I do not think that is the issue due to the fact that the issue improves slightly on the Aosp ROM. Additionally, when I run the aux through the media bridge I have no issues.
I am using Google play music. I have tried adjusting the EQ using Viper ROM 5.0 and have had no success. Any other ideas?
Wondering if there's a secret. It's like everything below 200mhz has been removed, both through headphone jack and bluetooth.

Same here. Good quality in car whether i use my bt adapter or through audio jack.
Using Vanilla Player to play local mp3s sounds good on my headphones. Maybe a little "small" on my BT speaker, but its a small cheap speaker. Haven't noticed poor quality in my car.
I do use bluetooth pretty much exclusively in the car. I have a pair of headphones that sound really good with the phone. Dont use anything else to play music but I do sometimes have problems with the headphone jack when I move the cable around.
The sound quality when connected via cable to my car stereo or headphones seems to be fairly decent, though a bit noisier than the audio I get from my iPhone. I still have the problem of losing audio on calls after disconnecting from the audio jack (I can't hear callers on incoming calls and sometimes callers cannot hear me when I call them) and then having audio not re-routed back to the audio jack the next time I connect. Because this has happened on more than one Fire phone, I just use a cheap Bluetooth USB adapter connected to my stereo which does degrade the audio quality somewhat however.
Do you guys use any sound processing apps at all? I seriously have no bass coming out of my phone. I turn the bass up almost all the way on my car stereo, and in an EQ app for the phone (tried without the app too), and it's still not quite what a normal mp3 playing directly on my car receiver sounds like.
I'm on fire OS, are any of you on cm11?
Also this uses dolby or something doesn't it? I worry that something I've disabled has messed it up, but don't know what it would be.

No sound processing apps for me. I'm usually on Fire OS 4.6.3 rooted with no Google Play services. Now I'm on 4.6.5 unrooted (trying to resolve a GPS issue) and it sounds the same over BT.
Works fine for me too. Hardwired through AUX or with Bluetooth. Headphones/earbuds sound good too. I mainly use Amazon Music player, Google Music, and Pandora.
I've had no problems with BT connection from my Fire OS Fire Phone to my Sony receiver. Bass response is good whether or not I am running "Equalizer FX." I use Equalizer FX because the bass on the car stereo (and my headphones) rolls off below 60Hz.
I have learned from other phones that running the volume at max level can cause clipping and sound degredation.
I have experienced substantial static noise on my Sprint variant of the Samsung Note 7 when using headphone jack to Aux in my car stereo. The static's volume was substantial and made listening to music unbearable. I was thoroughly disappointed that this brand new phone sounded like garbage, and thinking it was a hardware defect and considered returning the phone. I decided to troubleshoot this problem, and found an odd solution, odd because it seems to be a software issue. So, while my phone was streaming music and producing static while plugged into the Aux car stereo, I jumped into settings and toggled on the 'UHQ upscaler' found in 'sound quality and effects' at bottom of sound settings menu. (( Settings > Sounds > (Advanced) Sound quality and effects > UHQ upscaler )) Toggling this switch immediately got rid of the static issue... even after turning the toggle back to off.
Static / White noise Experience Continued....
So, while listening to static free music via Aux cable to car stereo, a call comes in through phone app, static immediately resumes as phone app takes over sound settings. I answer the call and static continues to come through car speakers obscuring the caller's voice. (no, this is not static from a microphone / speaker feedback loop) So, I unplug aux cord and place phone against ear the old fashion way. When call is about to end, I plug Aux cable back into phone, static resumes until phone call ends (phone app releases control of sound) at which point music resumes playing without static.
Troubleshooting methods tried while figuring out static via Aux cable to car stereo:
- plugging in various Aux Cables ( no effect )
- unplugging charging cable while listening to music ( no effect )
- playing music on Note 7 to home stereo via 3.5mm to RCA cable ( Did not produce static )
- toggling UHQ upscaler (( eliminated static via Aux cable to car stereo after toggling on (or off, after it has first been toggled on), static returned for duration of native phone app call and disappeared after call was over ))
I find this issue to be quite odd, seems like it is some sort of software issue... Is anyone else experiencing this or something similar?

Edit: After doing some more research found that the galaxy S7 and S7 edge suffer from same problem. Workarounds include toggling UHQ upscaler ( Settings > Sounds > (Advanced) Sound quality and effects > UHQ upscaler ) and/or purchasing a Ground Loop Noise Isolator...
The sound on my note 7 is fing horrible especially on the aux line out, the bass and treble is so muddy. i don't get near the clean volume or loudness like I do out of my note 7 compared to my iPhone 6s even over Bluetooth. I'm wondering if there's a volume protection setting on the note 7 I'm not seeing because even my UE mini boom sounds louder and better over Bluetooth with my iPhone.
Galaxy 8 hissing noise
My Galaxy 8 makes a huge hissing noise when I hook the audio jack to an external speaker with the 3.5mm plug.
Samsung engineers are incompetant.
Samsung brags about all these hundreds of "features" on this $650 phone and THEY CAN'T EVEN GET GOOD AUDIO OUT OF IT.
Hey guys, I just got a new HTC 10 (stock, updated to Nougat). I like to use a Sennheiser Game Zero headset for when I make phone/skype calls, but the microphone records a rhythmic static-y clicking. It does pick up my microphone audio, but the clicking is there on top of it. It stops when I mute the headset microphone via it's flip-up mechanism, but resumes when the microphone is unmuted.
I've used this headset regularly with both my PC and my older HTC One (m7) without the issue. I've also tried using a pair of cheap earbuds with an in-line mic with the 10, and it doesn't seem to have that problem.

It's been a while that I've noticed that there's sth wrong with my m9's sound:
1) jitter (bonfire-sparkle-like sounds) and hissing when I'm recording audio via the native app
2) Boomsound speakers playback too noisy and hissy sound
3) whenever I connect my phone to the car stereo via USB (the pioneer Android support model), the annoying jitters occasionally show up
I've tried multiple hard resets and running the latest Android on my phone. As far as I remember, it wasn't like this the first day.
