Ive been reading a book in .mobi format for a couple weeks. then 2 or 3 days ago it stopped opening up. it just shows up as a gray square with the orange bookmark saying 0%. when I click it it shows a jumble of my app icons instead of my book cover and then just shows a grey screen that says kindle in the middle. I tried chatting with amazon and she had me hold the power button and refresh my kindle but it just shows up as a gray square with the oranges bookmark saying 0% but now when I click it it takes me to a screen that says home, device, archive, store across the top and then has a row of recommendations across the bottom. she said she was going to elevate it to a tech since she had never hear of this issue before.
I have rooted this using the utility ( a while ago using whatever version was out around chirstmas) and also had the utility make it so that I could run go launcher too and have teh android market place. other than that I changed my wallpaper and then have done no other tweaking. My software for the kindle is the latest (6.3.1) and I appreciate any help
thanks
Quick question have you tried deleting it and redownloading it from archives in your account? Don't know if it applies but here is some info in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640557
Try wipe ap cache first. If it won't work then delete and reinstall Kindle.

its not in my archives it was just stored on my device. I transfered it over to my kindle from my comp using the usb cord. Ive had it in the books folder and the documents folder to see if one would work and neither have.

Kinda same issue here...
Last night I batch updated about 16 apps. Didn't pay attention to which ones they were, but one of them may have been the kindle app.
Now none of my "non-amazon" books are in my library. They're still on the kindle because I can find them all with es file explorer. And I can open them with the Cool Reader app. But the Kindle app won't see them.
Oranges, I'm going to try this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25834005&postcount=8
EDIT: No, don't do that. Do this, it worked. My button didn't say uninstall updates. It said uninstall, but when I pressed it, it asked if I wanted to uninstall updates. I said yes. My kindle sync'd automatically and my books were back.

Hey guys, question here. I want all my ebooks to show up in the Kindle library that I did not download from Amazon. For some reason, a few (like 3 or 4) of them do - the rest do not. Is there a trick to getting them all to work? Is it have to do with DRM?
Also, is there an alternative free ebook reader AS QUICK that I can use to set my directory and show a nice cover art?
Thanks in advance.
I use a program called Calibre to convert the ebooks to mobi format then just push them over to my kindle fire. You can find the program here http://calibre-ebook.com/
Expanding on what gamy said- those books that don't show up in your library probably show up in your documents section. To change them from documents to ebooks they can be changed from "pdoc" to "ebok" when converting to mobi in calibre (just converting to mobi doesn't always work as it may still keep the pdoc tag). I found a how to article but not sure if links to other website are a no-no here.. Just google "ebok pdoc kindle fire" if you need better step by step directions..
Just blank the field that has pdoc in it. I think it is one the second tab.

Anywhere special you need to store the ebook once its done or can we place it anywhere on the sdcard?
If you use calibre you can just choose send to device.

my Kindle 2gen died.
Got a superuser rights,
Remove system programs such as Amazon MP3, Amazon video, and accidentally delete the native launcher. Made him a hard reset ... Kindle stucks on logo KINDLE FIRE and nothing happens. What to do?:crying:

Can you exapnd on what happens? Hold your power button for 15 seconds, turn it on, and explain to me in great detail what happens.
Edit: It seems you're stuck in a bootloop. Can your computer detect it via adb?

I'm holding power button for 15 sec., turn it on, appears Kindle Fire logo, the logo flashes and that's it.
yes the computer can detect via adb.

Sorry for the late reply. Here's what you have to do(and I'm not entirely sure it will work)
First, give me a complete list of every app you deleted. Also what version you were running(your os).
I will upload the apps for you. Download them. You will then have to use adb to push them back into /system.

I deleted amazon video, amazon mp3, imdb and native launcher. Use lastest version 10.2.1
mb your idea may safe my fire)) let's try.
Probably the worst thing in that mix is the native launcher.
Sorry to ask here but I can't post on development forums and there isn't a Q&A for the Fire 2.
I screwed up, I flashed AOKP JellyBean to my brother's Fire and it is so awesome that I bought a Fire 2 with the black friday deal and now I found out that it can't be flashed, the main problem is that I'm not from the US so I can't download anything from the Amazon store app because you need an US credit card.
So the question, is there anyway to install apks within the tablet? Like sending them with ADB and then installing them? does it have a file manager? or maybe downloading them straight from the Fire's browser?
I need to know this because if I open the box (it hasn't arrived yet) and I can't install anything, I would have to sell it cheaper because it's used.

I found this, I'll leave it here to help anyone with the same problem.
Using a Kindle Fire outside the US
In order to download anything from the Amazon Appstore (even the free apps) you need to enable 1-Click settings on your Amazon account and set a US credit card and billing address. Provided you only want to download free apps you can use any valid US address and a test credit card number.
Expiration Date has to be a valid date in the future (use the mmyy format). Also make sure to use a US address (just Google for one, but make sure you don’t ship any purchases to this address)
American Express
371449635398431
American Express Corporate
378734493671000
Discover
6011111111111117
JCB
3530111333300000
MasterCard
5555555555554444
Visa
4111111111111111
If you want paid apps you can either get a real US credit card or load your Amazon account with a gift card. Any purchases should then use the gift card balance instead of trying to charge the non-working US credit card.
If you don’t want to use this workaround then GetJar is a good alternative to the Amazon Appstore and can be installed on the Fire without rooting.

How did you install google play?
I finally got my wife interested in the Kodi box, and she went in and added scores of movies to Genesis' "Favorites." Apparently, the thumbnails ate up all the space on my Fire TV and I started getting disc full warnings during movie playback. From the Kodi launch area, I cleared all the data (3.5 GB), and I was back to square one with my Kodi installation. Since I've been using Backup to make backups of my setup, I reinstalled Backup and pointed it to where my archived backups are. But when I hit "Restore," all I get is an empty window with the following header text: "Backup - Backup Folder Name." Any suggestions?

I am using the default Confluence skin, but I don't think it's a skin problem. (Insert Proactive reference here.)
I'm not convinced this Backup add-on is quite ready for the light of day.

It's worked for me in the past on the same build--13.2 and aeon nox skin. But, yes last week the restore function brought up a blank page, no file to select. You could try adbFire for backup/restore. I was told tvaddons has this feature but I looked everywhere in maintenance tool and it just isn't there.

Yes, I tried using adbFire's "Restore" function, but apparently it will not read XBMC Backup's backup files. At least it didn't work for me. I believe you have to have made the backups using adbFire in order to use adbFire for the restoration, and unfortunately, I did not.
Yes. That's probably right. Sorry. What I should've said is if you still have it setup make a backup with adbfire then restore.
're-reading the op, there is an advancedsettings that will store all your thumbnails on external. I use it myself. It does of course required root. I can send it to you if you want.

Please do! That seems to be a big issue with the Fire TV's limited space, so I'd love to avoid that problem.
Do you know whether it will store the thumbnails on my Mac that's on the network, or does it have to be on a hard drive connected to the Fire TV?
Sure. I'll pm you when I get home later.
No these are for usb drive. There maybe a way to store to a network share (that'd be cool) but I'm not sure how to amend them. Plus I'd wonder about how bad the lag would be loading them. I've got the xml on both aftvs. One's a 500gb , ones a thumbrive. I find I don't need a big drive though. I use network shares like you. I don't do much gaming.
Usb 3.0 is the way to go. And I notice at Wal-Mart, a 16gb for around 10 bucks.
Hello! I recently configured 5 Fire Sticks with Kodi for a friend. I have done this on a couple Fire TVs as well. I have never had any issues. But on 2 of his Fire Sticks, he is saying that Kodi completely disappeared. It is no longer listed in the Manage All Applications list. Has anybody heard of this? I am fairly certain that system updates will not remove user-installed apps. Maybe he turned off the developer options? Could that remove Kodi? Does anybody have nay ideas on how he might have "accidentally" removed it? Thank you!
i had the same thing happen to both my firesticks does anyone know the reson/s behind this please help asap.

i think there is nothing wrong with that, but i think if someone knows, what happend with the kodi installations, there will help "asap" even without the "asap" in a help request.
I dont think, that kodi deinstalled/deleted it self or were deleted by an update, i never have any kind of this problem on any android device.
Maybe he deinstalled by exident, when he try to "force close" the app and selected the wrong button. Another possibility is a defect memory section, so that android think the apk is broken and wont list it anymore under the apps or the apk became corrupt cause of a powerlost when the app was running/loading.
But i think a reinstallation is done quick and when the apps wont vanished again it will be a unsolfed mystery why it gone the first time ^^
did you find a cure for this???

The only solution I've found thus far is to factory reset the fire stick and reinstall/restore kodi via adbfire. The problem is Kodi no longer is listed as an application.. ANYWHERE. I've pushed settings.apk and it's not listed there. All the files are still in place and viewable via es file explorer, yet the apk doesn't even show up using ADBfire to uninstall. I'd wager this was intentionally done by amazon to curb piracy on their devices. It's way too specific and all other apps including firestarter remain intact.

My other apps went with it, its only when you update to the 5.0.5, but im reading on other forums peoples Kodi isnt disappearing.
My app data all stayed there too, once i factory set it and downloaded Kodi through ES file explorer (you have to open web browser it wont let you download it direct) its fine now.
I'm new to the whole kodi on fire stick thing and I experienced same thing but on my device (1st gen) kodi was still listed when I went to uninstall it. All I did was to manually reinstall kodi using es explorer and restart firestarter app.
Old thread but for future people that run into this problem go down to apps it should be in there still if not sorry this was my fix when it happened for me maybe just lucky.. But in main screen in fire stick go down to the apps icon and move te toggle to right hope this helps !! Good luck guys run into several issues and always find answers online so hope to return favor to someone !!! Good luck
Needing copy of Kindle App that comes installed on Duo if someone would be so kind.
Want to test it on other dual screen devices to see if we can get the two page feature working. Thinking it may be flagged for just the Duo, but will update for those interested.
Thank you!

what I had to do was open Kindle with the Duo folded in "phone" mode, then open the screens back up, slide the app up and make it stretch to both screens and release - it put one page on each side.
it never worked, in the beginning, by trying to do it with both screens up.
after I did that, it works every time.
It came pre-installed in Germany.
