[Q] Signal Issues on 4.0.4 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I got my nexus today, and it was great, so I rooted and installed AOKP with GLaDOS kernel as well as the 4.0.4 radios. I have the LTE nexus. I immediately was bombarded by signal drops. I tried the lean kernel and James Bond kernel to no avail. I also tried one of the hybrid radios. Then, I tried BAMF. No dice. I need my phone to work tomorrow, so I restored stock and unrooted and locked. No signal drops on 4.0.2. So, this means it is probably a software issue. Any ideas on kernels, ROMs, or radios that might work? I'll try rooting again when I can. Thank you.

Actually the reverse here . I went back to stock and signal strength was hidious . Rerooted and loaded LK and Liquid 1.35 with the leaked radios from the recent update (that later got pulled) and signal strength has been almost double . I think you are going to find that some people benefit from the newer software while others not so much . Its just like kernels , some people have really great luck and battery life with them while others the phone just tanks itself .

Any issues with 4.0.4

Just wondering before i start cooking something up, is there any reason you devs/users are not using the 4.0.4 ROM from Google here:
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#yakju
Is there issues with it or no one got round to it yet?
Cheers
There are many roms that use the new 4.0.4 base, AOKP B29 being the most popular. But Axi0m Patient Zero and other "stock roms" use it as well.
Some people are reporting weak signals generally, or even complete loss of signal when the device goes to sleep. With the radio in Google's factory image the signal seemed quite weak for me, so I flashed the UGLC1 radio, which is apparently the latest 4.0.4 radio from yakjuux builds supposedly optimized for North America.
This has made it worse for me, I'm now seeing complete loss of signal when the device goes to sleep, as others have reported for the stock XXLA02. I'm going back to that...
By the way, I'm using the device in Canada on the Telus network.

low signal

i had low signal from day one but occasionally had perfect 4g lighting speed
my question is can flashing a rom make me loose signal ....after flashing an updated rom today i had almost no signal at all ...
called verizon and they went through what they needed to do and said they are going to send a new sim card ....if that doesn't work they are going to do a factory restore....
anyone have any clue ?
....do... what...huh... does not...compute?
bow chicka wow wow.
Have you tested the signal with other phones? Like say for instance did a friend who with Verizon have better signal in the same room? I know these galaxy nexuses don't have the best signal, but it isn't THAT bad.
Most roms I've seen come devoid of radios, check the dev section and try out a few different radios.
IMO if the radio packages and new simcard don't work flash back to 100% stock and unroot, then send it in on warranty.

Yes we did test the phones , my buddy has the same phone and was on 4g while I had 1x...both phones running liquid smooth 1.25 ...for some reason when I ran the older version I believe it was just 1.2 I had way better signal ...

[Q] Please recommend Radio + Kernel + ROM combo so I can connect reliably again.

I've been using AOKP since build 29 or so. The past few builds have left me with very poor connections / unreliable connections / dropped connections. I suppose this has to do with the 4.0.4 upgrade. I've tried various combinations of radios and kernels with (now) AOKP B35, having done a clean install for M5.
The kernels I've tried include JamesBond, Franco, and LeanKernel.
The radios I've tried are UGLC1 and XXLA2.
I'm on T-Mobile in the US (Midwest / Chicago area mostly). If it matters, my GSM Gnex was purchased from Amazon about two months ago.
My main symptoms are poor connections - I have 3G with 1-2 bars while my wife's HTC G2 will have H with 5 bars. And I often lose the connection, usually coming off of WiFi.
At this point, I'll take any combination of radio/kernel/ROM that can restore me to good functionality. I'd rather not go back to an older nandroid (I think the last was around B32). I'd rather start clean with a new combination that will work.
I know this is a common problem, and that many have tried to come up with a solution to these drops. But I've not gotten any advice in the AOKP thread that ultimately led me to a solution that worked.
Thanks for the advice.
First of flash the Milestone 5, thats a full working rom, others are betas, use AOKP Milestone 5. And francos kernel Milestone 3 for stability /performance /battery and as for radios go to general section and get to the radios/baseband thread.. Download all the GSM radios there and try them until you find wich one works perfect for you, does not matter if its for europe or asia or us, just get em all.
In my case the only radio that works its xxkl1.. ALL other radios wont get data at all or low signal, but xxkl1 works just perfect you know? Full bars HSPA full speed

Does Jelly Bean fix the signal / data drop issue of Galaxy Nexus?

Guys, I love my galaxy nexus and it's as smooth as those quad core phones, however the signal / data drop issue is Really bothering me, even though it has gotten better by flashing RIL from 4.0.3, I still wanna see this completely fixed, any similar issue in JB?

As far as I am aware its just some small tweaks. There are not new radios that I am aware of for cdma.

it is the same radios as the 4.0.4 ICS build. so there probably wont be much if any difference at all in signal strength or data drops.

There's a new radio (GSM): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27984155&postcount=1096
Can't comment on data and/or signal drops since I've never been affected with any regularity.
they really need to find a permanent fix for the radios. i did a speed test with my nexus right next to my uncles thunderbolt and he was getting around 18mbps, while i was getting only 9mbps. Rediculous
It's even worse for me.
I had few data drops, my issue was I'd lose data at random times yet it'd still show that I had strong signal.
My data is even more inconsistent than before with the new radio.

disagree
data is working just fine for me. Hasn't been long enough to determine if it's better yet, but so far so good.
I'm on StraightTalk-ATT at the moment.
I've actually been struggling with that on 4.0.4 but been using stock/unrooted JB with XXLA2 and haven't suffered any drops.

also had data drops with XXLA2 nearly every day. until now, not with XXLF1...but not really representative after one day...keep fingers crossed, that the new radion fixed that!
Hi,
I have random signal drops on my Gnex GSM when phone is on 3g network, and when is on 2g network I don't have it.
I really hope that new radio will fix the issue.
Do anybody know when JB will be available for update?
Thanks

Google said the OTA will begin to roll out Mid July. If you are lucky you will get the OTA as soon as is released. Else, you might need to wait until your device gets it.
I switched back to XXLA02 along with the 4.0.4 bootloader, so far so good. That's how bad it was for me. Data would drop out like crazy.
I was seriously contemplating returning the phone and buying the Google Play one.
Well, the phone is near perfect except that, I tried kk6 RIL with xxla2 radio with minimum data drop and no signal lost, somebody said tdvkk6 RIL is good with xxla2.radio , will try that to see if it fixs the problem.
Well, hope Google permanently fix it when official JB comes out.

The initial 4.0.4 update has the data drop issues but not long after google push out another update to fix it. The kernel version was updated so if you guys with data drop issues should check your kernel version to make sure you really have the latest updates. I have issues after the first 4.0.4 update but was fixed with the 2nd update.

Not in my case, I never had "screen off signal lost " actually, my signal lost was occasionally but pretty consistent with 1-2 times a day no matter I traveled around or stay at 1 place for the whole day. The 2nd update did me no good neither. People from another thread said JB is clean on this for now.

Still weird signal issues after OTA update to JB here.

Signal issue with IMM76I baseband and XXLA2 radio.

Hi all,
like the title I'm experiencing big issue with my Galaxy Nexus, brand-new with Android 4.0.4 baseband IMM76I and XXLA2 radio.
I searched a lot of different thread here. From one side it seems that some people experiencing the famous signal issue caused by moving from the official 4.0.2 to the old 4.0.4 were able to fix it thanks to the IMM76I. On the other side, in some other threads, it seems that others are still experiencing this issue.
My question is, was the last 4.0.4 IMM76I update really useful to overcome lost signal issues?
As I said I never updated my phone (it was already 4.0.4 IMM76I XXLA2 ) but inside my home I'm not able to get the signal from the standard phone network! Outisde I'm having a signal wich is way less than the one I had with my old gs2. Moreover the signal strength seems to be always low (-111DB to 90 DB) even outside.
How can I fix this problem? Could it be an harware defect? Any help will be really appreciated.
Hard to say without further testing... I'd suggest that you try a different radio version to see what happens. Personally I'm still on XXKK6 (the one that came with my phone) running JB and no issues so far, so you could try that one. Or try the new JB one (XXLF1), which should also work with ICS.

Yeah probably is worth to give a try first with installing JB (with also its radio) and some other ones. Where are you from, Europe I suppose since you are using XXKK6 right? So with that no signal issues?
Yeah I'm in Europe. Basically when I got my phone a couple of months ago, I immediately unlocked the bootloader and flashed AOKP , so I never got any of the OTA's with the new radio versions.
I've not run into any signal issues with this radio, most places it works great. I don't see a reason to update as long as it's working .
Just updated to JB, with baseband XXLF1. In my home the signal is in range of -100 -110 db. With my old gs2 I'm experiencing 87-97. Crap!
So it is an hw issue? Which is the signal strength that you guys are experiencing on yours gnex? I'm starting to think that I need to send the phone to repair... is still under warranty...
