removing the main google account - HTC Wildfire S

hi there ive got hold of a friends phone and she wants to change the main google account but doesnt want to loose all the data is there anyway to get around this ?
cheers all help will be greatly appreciated

nope. sorry bud, the main account is tied into the phone as far as i know and you need to factory reset to remove it. but you can add more accounts..... and i think you can disable most of the orginal account. but if you want it gone you need to factory reset. there are several back up apps you could try to keeo the data and reinstall it again afterwards
good luck

I think that there is no way to change the main Google account that a device is tied up. You would better back up Applcations, Contacts, messages again Wipe User Data, then restore all the backed up items. Quite Long but this s the only way i know

1. Backup apps
2. Wipe data
3. Reinstall backed up apps

Backup settings

Hi,
I would like to know if is there anyway to backup the contacts links (Google or facebook) and the exchange configuration when we reset data.
Why:
Is I need to reset the phone to factory defaults or wipe data, then after sync my contacts the links with others apps are gone.
Also I wad lucky that updated my Rom to froyo and did not flash, which means my exchange acc works without passcode usage and witout apps for removing the passcode.
Thanks

[Q] Change google account without hard reset on 2.3?

Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to change my main google account without factory reset? I know it was possible on older versions of Android, from what I've read, but is it possible on GB?
Thanks
Try the following:
Go to Settings -->Accounts & sync
Press on the account you want to be deleted
Press "Remove account" on the next screen
Tried that, when I select the dummy account I registered with it won't let me delete unless I do a factory reset
It worked for me on CM7. I added a second Google account and then successfully deleted that newly added account.
I tried to do the same the stock non-rooted sense rom, and got the same reply. Had to do the factory reset. Maybe it will only work on rooted phones, or perhaps only some custom roms. I don't know.. Is yout phone rooted? Do u run a custom rom?

Yes my phone is rooted and is running CyanogenMod 7 (CM7), but I really doubt that this has to do anything with me being able to do what I've described, as this is a standard Android functionality provided by Google itself, and not a third party hack/addition.
BTW, are you trying to delete the only one currently existing account? Maybe if there is only a single account, then it cannot be removed... just a thought. I created an additional account just for the test and then deleted it, and did not mess with my true account.
The main account signed into on the phone is locked until you hard reset - no way to change it otherwise
Yeah, I'm on MIUI and I've added a second account but can't delete the first one. Which I don't care much about - but I can't change my Talk account to sign in with a different one, which is what annoys me..
Anyway, thanks for the help guys

Epic touch 4g flashed to metro everything works

I recently purchased this awesome phone and it has been flashed to metro.. My daily phone is An Epic 4G on boost, so as soon as flashing to boost becomes possible I will be doing that.. My question is that I want to root this phone and I also need to delete the main Google account on it, and I was told that if I do a factory reset I will lose the flash.. With my Epic on boost, I could data and cache wipe from recovery and flash rom after rom and never lose my boost flash.. So I'm really looking for some pointers, best root method that will allow me to keep metro, and then a way to erase the original Google account on the phone.. thanks in advance for any help given.

to remove the main Google account just add another google account and then delete the old one.
You could add the account by going into your gmail and
hit menu
click accounts
click add acount
add your account and it will sync up
or
you could go to the main setting of the phone and go to accounts & sync
hit ADD account
select google
then follow steps
once added go back and select the old google acct and hit Remove acct
Rooting shouldnt remove your flash the only thing that it will do is delete your mms settings for metro (i could be wrong so make sure first)
Hope this helps...
You can't delete the Google account that was used to setup the phone no matter how many accounts you add.. Not through the phone, haven't tried online but I haven't been able to delete from any android phone, always had to wipe data from can which causes much less damage to flash info that the factory reset option in settings.

i delete my extra google account from my phone all the time but never tried to delete the one it was set up with but figured it would be the same process. Try login in your account online and see if its possible there.

It sais that i cannot be removed because it is used by some apps and the only way is the make facroty reset.Any other ideas ? Thank you
Another work around could be to change your account to different one. Or as a last resort factory reset it, but we only factory reset it when we selling our phone.
Change our google mail password than open GMail and refresh, it will tell you to put your new pass or acc, fill it with another one

[Q] In need of help

I have T-mobile G-2/ Rooted and running CyangenMod-7.0.2 vision (side note: I had someone root the phone for me I have very limited technical skills and reading these threads for me me is like reading greek.....back to my issue) as with all androids phone a g-mail account is required long story short I had a stalker and deleted my g-mail account replaced it with another. The new account will not sync my contacts or calender. I've looked everywhere and tried asking google for help> my only option it seems is to reset my phone back to factory setting. I'm also having a problem with short battery life, the battery never charges to 100% Ive installed juice defender, should I replace the battery? I don't want to lose my root and I don't know how to root it again on my own. If any one can help me it would be appreciated

factory reset wont loose root
are there multiple gmail accounts on your phone? if you log on to new gmail account from computer can you see your contacts? in phone under accounts and sync is contacts box checked? you can try to reset batt stats first to see if batt life improves
I don't have multiple g-mail account The 1st was deleted the 2nd is the current one using on my G-2 I still get prompted to sign into 1st even tho it doesn't exists. I've tried sync for the 2nd account it doesn't work. when I log into my new g-mail account I only see recently added contacts
I will try batt reset
just save all you have on phone. do a nandroid backup via recovery to be safe.
go into recovery and try just wiping cache and dalvik cache, boot backinto phone and see if you can log in and sync
if you cant factory reset and start fresh.

I have ROM Manager installed on my phone can I use that to back everything up?
Sent from my HTC G-2 using XDA
titamiumbackup for apps and such
sms bckup + for call logs and sms
some launchers allow you to back up home screens
but the crucial thing is boot into recovery and do a nandroid backup
this will make an exact copy of your nand flash and revert it just the way it is
in case something went wrong, always do this if you change roms as well
Thanks for all your help, everything was understanderble, even for me I've followed your advice step by step....like I said I'm technically challenged and It took me all weekend to try this
I backed everything up both nandroid and titanium did the phone reset. the only thing is when I do the restore the old g-mail account is still there, I've wiped the devlic and the cache it's still there
Any thoughts
dont use the nandroid to restore, this is just in case other problems arise later. wipe all again and if you need some parts restore those from titanium or sms backup or what ever you feel you need. if your phone dosent have a whole lot of settings tweaked to your desire or a whole lot of apps then just start fresh. i flash a lot of roms and rarley do i use these restore features and when i do its usualy just certain data and not the apps. i spend a good hour or more tweaking and setting up my phone the way i like it after i flash a new rom. if you dont tweak much, just start fresh

Thank you for your patients I have 1 more question
Once I wipe everything & do factory reset will titanium remember my phone when I reinstall it
Sent from my HTC G-2 using XDA
titanium will store the info on your sdcard. you would then download titanium from the market and go into and choose a full batch restore or pick and choose what you want restored.

well as you said that you deleted your old account you will not be able to get your previous contacts. My suggestion is to see if you can restore your old acount(via pc) and then open gmail > contacts > more > export. Export them as a google csv and save on your desktop. later login into our new gmail account > contacts > more > import. now select your previously saved csv file and import. This should help you get all your contacts into google which can be synched to your phone using your new account.
PS: If google doesn't give you a method to restore your deleted account then what i said above is of no use. You should then follow demkantor's suggestions.
