Ok peeps.
I am off to London for a day out with my girls doing the sites, museums and the like.
My question is, is there a decent tube planner / street map free software out there to use to help our day?
Anyone have any suggestions.
I dont particularly wanna pay for anything as I am in london once in every 5 or 6 years....
Many thanks
Neil
there´s an app called metro.
I was in the same situation somedays ago. I´ve been to London in the past week, and believe me that if you use the little map (paper) they have there in the station its pretty easy to use the tube there.
They have lots of infos in the stations. You just need to see where you wanna go, and check the map if the tube goes there. And once in the station, search the line you have to catch and last, each platform shows where to go (direction).
But its better someone that live there tell you more.
I personally think its pretty easy to use.
A good commercial (not free) one is: http://www.visualit.co.uk/ - I use it.
The Metro program is free and excellent but not very visual: http://www.nanika.net/Metro/
One thing I tried was to download a copy of the tube map and then view it in the album.
enjoy the trip !
there's also City Advisor here on XDA, still under development but really promising
I also use Metro, have used it for business and for Holiday trips etc. (used it in Barcelona on holiday last year)
Cheesy Dave is right in that it is not very visual but for a free route planner that takes in the tube and mainline trains in the city it is brilliant.
For just about anything else I use googlemaps.
google
silly but why not use google maps with the Sat Nav operational and download a map of the undergroup to nav your way on the tube.
Or is that too easy. Maybe thats just me, but I do know London very well by tube and road.
I got tube 2 (visual it). are u interested? send me pm
Travel Guide by mobisystems.com is perfect for what you want. maps, tourist info, photos etc
You could just get a large image from google and save it as a picture

if u know yuor city it's the better solution. if u r a traveller, in a big city, it's comfortable to have a program that's a navigator in a tube.
I work for the london underground, so come to Camden Town and I'll give you all the info you need for ... FREE
I "tested" the Visual it Tube2 application and it did not convince me to buy it. The path tool suddenly stopped working and even while it was It had very poor graphic to be useful, was really not easy to read/use. In my opinion you'd better stick with a london map
@Rathis
I'll be in London near camden town from 14th march, if you happen to see a mad italian trying to get a satellite fix with a touch HD in the tube you'll probably be watching me.
London Tube
You can download the official map here. Trust me, the best thing is to get the map when you arrive. You can get them for free very easy at every tubestation (also at Heathrow express and connect). No hasle with your phone Besides that it is quite easy to travel around with the tube. There are 3 major connections (circle, district and central) they can bring you nearly anywhere within walking distance. In every cabin there is a good overview/map of all the lines.
one other thing to remember is that most shops or places are very aware of which is the nearest tube station, and often the ads for such plsces will have that info clearly shown.
You can also try the "Visitor Guide" from 3lobyte.nl it's look like something that you want.
by the way Smog, the 14 March I'm off

As far as I am aware, it's not yet possible. I've tried converting the Tilt version to work, but no luck so far. I've since given up on it, and the others that were working on it had no luck either. It was an issue of getting the kernel to work, and then the drivers had not been developed yet.
For what it's worth: It is quite fun to run on the Tilt, but not good for everyday use yet. It is still a bit glitchy and slow. Again, fun to get it going and use!
Pretty cool apps in the app store, etc... I especially like using Google Goggles and being able to take a photo of just about anything and telling it to search and voilà!.. It scans the image, jumps to Google and tells you what you took a photo of. If it was a product, it will tell you where you can buy it and it's ingredients, if it was a car, it will tell you what type of car, etc... Nice tool/toy. I shot a Twix candy bar, and it came back with it's ingredients, nutritional information, company information, where I could buy it, etc. Technology is advancing faster than I can keep up. I LOVE it!
If you find a way to get it working, please report back. I would like to try it on the P3600 also if it worked. But, for the record, I am sticking with WM for the time being...
thanks for keeping the Trinity alive SuperSport!
i'm sad too that my p3600 can't run on a trinity. but then again it's understandable. i won't expect to run blackberry OS on it either haha.
i'm waiting for a good opportunity to pick up a android! right now i'm kinda saving money and waiting for a windows phone 7 miracle. hehe i'm a loyal WM fanboy! do you think window phone 7 will be good?
i use a BB as my main phone now while my trinity as a backup/gps/dictionary/swiss army knife. it's still one of my best purchases ever.
as far as info available now says - win phone 7 will be **** - no multitasking, no copy/paste, not backwards compatible, no 3rd party apps - only from ms app store - seems similar to something?

Yes, I'm not too excited about it yet. We will see what the final result will be. It does appear to be quite Apple'ish at the moment. Hopefully, they will shift gears away from that before the final release. Only time will tell.
Also, I never loose hope that XDA will take their OK product and make it a Great Product. It usually works that way.
I just saw this game on another site and decided to give it a try since it's free. I've been want Words With Friends or a decent clone for awhile. Wordwise Pro just doesn't fit the bill. So far WordFeud is great given it's really new.
http://wordfeud.com/
PS: I'm not getting paid to promote this. It's just really fun and I'd though I'd share.
Add me if you want to play. My ID is Snapshotx
the servers for it have been down all day; seems like they're experiencing a mass exodus of users from Wordwise Pro. LOL once they get it fixed, this will be THE app for Android.
ahh, I was wondering why it wasn't working today. It was pretty fantastic yesterday.
Needs a little bit of work though. There doesn't seem to be a way to clear finished games from your list. Also some sounds would cool.
seams to be back up now, all my games that didn't show are also back up
I know it's not a new game, but...I was looking for this optimized version for our Xplays very long time, almost one year. There were only two videos, one review and that's all, nowhere on internet anything more, only discussion where people bought/downloaded it. I didn't believe that it really exists. I downloaded tons of different versions but even one wasn't optimised for gamepad, even the one from Flexion store which I downloaded in Fun&Apps app (I don't know how it's called in english version, I'm from Czech republic). And yesterday evening I downloaded this apk from some polish forum - and it is really OPTIMITZED!
So here is the link ("official", uncracked version, you must buy it after 60 minutes):
Code:

If somebody find or make a cracked version (which could be played offline I mean, cause I don't have data connection only wifi at home), let me know through PM, I would be grateful.

Then this is not the place for you. Cracked/Warez apps are not allowed in XDA.

Maybe if you tried not to be so wise and clever and read carefuly what I wrote...I mean cracked not cracked to play it for free but offline. By the way I bought this app right in the moment when I realized its optimized. However I didn't pay for limitations and playing it at home, when I buy something for my money I want to play it everywhere I want to do with this thing everything cause this was made. And if I cannot I must to find different way.I don't want a cracked version which I can play without paying for it (when a payed for it yet), I want to play it without wifi/data. And this of course is in most of cases possible only with cracked version and this is the reason why I wrote "give me know through PM".If you have nothing related to this game, don't spam it here with these "important" comments.
The mere mention of 'cracked' and 'asking for crack' speak for themselves.
Game working although need to buy it, the price is just to cheap. Why need a crack if the game is fully optimized?
All game that i try some of them is crack but not optimize, it really waste of time to find in the time like this.
More, the game version already too old and that why the latest version dont support XPlay gamepad, same like the latest Dead Space.
That's EA
(If you buy the game, you can play it OFFLINE)

This will not work for everyone based on your location. You need a few Best Buy stores around you, that will get watches at some point.
Also, there is NO GUARANTEE as some of this is luck. I only worked on maximizing my odds.
Here is what I did:
1) I went to the Best Buy site, searched for 'moto 360'; clicked the model I was interested in; clicked on 'Check availability in store'; entered my zip code, and current store availability was displayed.
2) I copied that page's link
3) In my case, I already had a small python script that would check for relevant changes in that page, but you can use pre existing solutions. The best mix of 'free' and good polling frequency would be a browser extension, such as 'Page Monitor' for Chrome or 'AlertBox' for FireFox. Bonus: they will check for only the bits you are interested in.
4) You are only interested in a new store showing up in your list! This is the one that is getting a delivery.
5) Even better: in my experience, the web site will be updated before the store's internal stock information is. There is quite the lag, in fact.
6) Walk/drive to that store and explain that, yes, 15 minutes ago (or whatnot) their store did not have the watch in stock but since then they got a delivery. That will make them think about that big truck they just saw and hopefully agree to check it out.
7) Run away with your watch (well, paying seems like a good intermediate step)
Except when your store lists it as in stock even though they know it isn't.

Nope
I just waited until late in the day and called whatever stores that still had one. I asked if they had it, two only had the silver one but I found one that had it in black. I figured if no one had picked it up by then I might as well drop by. I got one at around 7p yesterday evening from the Best Buy in the not so good side of town. Easy.

All I did was step one and went to the store first thing. Got mine no problem as it was in stock for pickup today just like their website said. I got the last one so no telling how many that store ever got in. BUT there was no other store within the zipcode radius I entered that showed it as available for pickup today so I count myself lucky in snagging one.

Yes. If I wrote "Walk in any Best Buy that claims to have them in stock" there wouldn't be much value in that.
That's why, instead, I wrote to wait for a *new* Best Buy store to suddenly claim to have one. Not one that had been claiming that for hours.
This was helpful for me. Thanks.
No stores in my region have one. I'd have to drive about 5 hours one way to get to the nearest one.
It seems that the watches completely missed the Midwest.

Great idea! I tried writing a script in python using 'urllib2.urlopen' but it doesn't return the same data as Chrome or Firefox. It always returns "We're sorry. This item is not available for Store Pickup in your area."
What python library did you use?
I had given up on getting one from BB yesterday about 1200. Got home and just happened to check the site one more time and my local store finally had some in stock. Called em up and they said they had 1 left and there was another guy on the way to pick it up but it was first come first serve. So I hopped in the car and drove like I stole it all the way there and it was still sitting in the display case... Needless to say, I'm the one looking at notifications on my wrist today.

Opposite for me. Drove to the store, they sold the last watch 15 minutes before I got there.
I managed to get one at my local best buy as well. The site showed stock so I ran up there at lunch. Some guy was walking out with a black version (I wanted silver anyway) and when I asked the blueshirt working the mobile department he said he had a truck full of stuff and there should be two silver ones on there but it could take hours before they unload them... I waited a bit to see if they would put them out... Eventually someone else asked if they could help me and I told them I was waiting for something that was being unloaded from the truck.. "We didn't get a truck today... we get them on Friday...." Uhh.. ok... but this guy said blah blah.... The second guy just walked into the back and found them on the stack of stuff from UPS and brought them out. I wonder if the first guy was hoping to buy them himself at the end of his shift and sell it on ebay...
Either way... score!

I did exactly this. Woke up yesterday at 8 and checked online and saw that a BestBuy about 40 minutes away showed them in stock. Drove over, was the first person in the store and got one. The 2nd person in the store got one too. They only received two the night before.
Dont see how you guys are finding these things 4 days after launch. The 3 BB's in my city each received 2 units, and of course were all sold out by the time I got there. Or at least the personnel claimed. 2 of them didnt even know what it was "uh, a modo 360? huh?" and then just pointed me in the general direction of the smart watch area, and yes I was in the mobile department that sells them. One other person just immediately said "sold out" and she's taking care of like 50 customers so I'm just like "really? You just know that off the top of your head?" So who knows. Online claimed they had them in stock.
Thanks for the tip. I was able to snag one today. They said sold out, I showed them the website with the "Available in store" and they looked it up, located the watch, and sold it to me post haste. I was even able to get in a Mover's coupon for an extra 10% off.

Yeah see this pisses me off, because I had 2 stores say that their webpage lags behind actual inventory. I even had one BB tell me that the other BB definitely has 1 in stock, and that he was looking at an actual inventory scan list or something and NOT the website. When I get to the other BB the dumb chick behind the counter just goes to BB.com and says they're out. I make her turn screen and she's not even looking at the right thing. Then she says "he said we have 1 in stock? They should never say we have just one, because if it's just one then that most likely means NONE"....
WTF?!
To her point, the BB rep who helped me today saw one in his inventory, knew where it was (on a desk in the back), but also made sure to check the rest of the system to insure I wasn't about to purchase one from underneath another buyer. But the ETK (new employee toolkit) showed that it was free and clear, ready for purchase.
Just called in (Gresham oregon) had one of 3 left in stock black version held it for me walked in and have it in hand.

Oregon ftw
I keep searching their website and I cant even get it to display stores in my area when I key in the zip code anymore. It just says not available in my area.
