Hi,
I am already aware of the problems that the HOX has with GPS and its issues to locking with satellites (and I do have poor performances on that) but the reason for which I am writing is slightly different.
I am experiencing "funny" behaviour, e.g. using Maps: once satellites are locked and position in fixed with good precision (no blue circle around my location pointer at all), the place where the location placeholder is placed in the map is still off of 10-50m! This is a behaviour that I don't experience with my Desire, in the very same location.
Also, the compass has some problems: whether I am moving or I am still, the small blue cursor in Maps keeps turning on it self, as if I was turning around....
These two problems, together with the difficulty in locking satellites, make my HOX almost useless as a navigator, for example in my car.....
Does anybody have similar problems?
Solutions?
Thanks

Hi,
I appear to have a problem in that the inbuilt compass used by Google Sky Map (excellent app) and Google Streetview does not read correctly until the phone has been waived around to calibrate the compass. This has to be done each time the apps are started otherwise the orientation is completely wrong with South reading as North.
Having tried a couple of compass apps from the market, they have the same problem with Compass (snaptic) telling me it needs recalibrating each time it is used due to a magnetic field. Is this a problem with my device, or do they all read incorrectly each time the apps are started until recalibrated?
I don't know about the other applications, but when using Compass (Snaptic, v1.1) mine loads and points north immediately. No need to wave it around or anything.
Thanks. Sounds like my Desire has a problem.
I re-calibrate mine most times as well ? I don't feel its a problem

I have the same problem. It's pretty annoying to have to do it all the time. Is this really normal?
I think there are quite some things that might interfere and/or require you to do the 'calibrate swing'. Your position on this earth, just to name one
When I'm sitting at my desk at the computer, the compass always points at my synthesizer or subwoofer lol But I guess it's quite sensitive.

Agreed - mine also points at the subwoofer when I'm by the desk. However, the problem is experienced every time I start any app which uses the inbuilt compass and happens when I'm in the garden and away from home ie it's not a localised issue.
I have seen several threads reporting compass issues in this forum. I posted one a few weeks ago as well. I have done some troubleshooting and I have now realized that my compass works fine unless I am in my car. This is very strange because I have had this car for several years and I have gone through several phones and have never had this problem. It's like my car is some kind of Faraday cage!
The symptoms are especially visible in google maps. Apparently they use the compass heading instead of the gps course to determine which way to turn the map. The arrow in the center almost always shows me driving sideways down a road. Also if I use the famous GPS Status app, the compass arrow in the middle never comes close to the actual GPS heading. Specifically, my compass always like to point somewhere to the west. If I am travelling to the east (090), my compass will point somewhere to the west (perhaps 270). But if I am travelling due south (180), the compass may point to something like south west. And if I am travelling to the west, there is a good chance the compass will be in agreement and also show me travelling to the west. Maybe I should alter my driving habits to only drive to the west.
But all of these symptoms go away if I am out of my car. If I go for a walk, the compass is fine. It is so obvious that I can stand outside of my car and get a heading, and then take the phone in my car and get a completely, wildly different heading.
I have tried the compass calibration in the GPS Status app, but that has made no difference.
Are there any engineering key codes that can test the compass, or perhaps change the sensitivity on it or something? Is there anything else I can do other than the compass calibration? Anyone have any idea what in my car might be throwing off the compass in the first place?
Hi, I'm really not sure what to make of this problem so maybe you can help me out pinpointing the problem so I can take care of it. I've observed several things and don't know how to connect the dots, or if there's any connection, so let me list what I've been seeing:
1 - I've got TomTom to use on my car.
2 - Worked wonderfully well on the first week or so. Fast to lock onto satellites (10 to 20 seconds), accurate and stable without loosing the lock.
3 - I've noticed from day one that it tends to to locate me a few meters back than what I'm actually am, so if I come about two streets very near one another, the turn on the correct one is a bit hard to to tell without looking at the map.
4 - A week ago, the phone started to take longer to lock my position and won't keep it, it often loses connection with the satellites.
5 - Also, the problem is a lot worse if I stop. It might be accurate while I'm driving over 50mph but, if I stop, the direction I'm facing is lost and then my location. It will place me within 50m to 100m of where I am, which could mean on another street. It has become useless for the slow paced city driving, with red lights and slow traffic.
6 - I haven't changed ROMs or anything major but I have downloaded a few apps, might have taken a few others out, the usual stuff... I'm using Android Revolution HD 31.2.
7 - I've noticed that a lot of times, in regular mobile use, the GPS icon shows up trying to locate my position, even with GPS off. Might be that I have accepted Google's location request or is embedded on some app. Don't know if this has any relation to the workings of navigation or with the timeframe the problem occurred.
8 - A final though... I've always had this problem with standalone GPS devices... They work fine for a few weeks/couple of months and then they seem to deteriorate, having a hard time to locate my position, maintaining a good connection, etc. I have no idea on why this is or if there's some sort of cache I should be cleaning.
Oh, and this happens regardless of the weather... overcasted, rainy days or clear skies, it's all the same.
So any thoughts on how to pinpoint the source of the problem so I can fix it?
Cheers!
Renato
Anyone?
Hi,
SGS6 Edge is finally here! A real slick device. I've noticed couple of issues:
1. GPS: It seems that the GPS sends a location update once a second or so. When I use Waze, driving on a highway (~70-80mph) the update of my location is choppy and the map is progressing in steps instead of a continuous smooth movement. I did not see that with the SGS5, it was a smooth progression of GPS updates and the map movement (BTW: With Google maps its less noticeable because they are somewhat smoothing the movement through the software but you can still notice that updates are coming once a second or so).
2. Compass: I've noticed that with a compass application, I get a reasonable reading of my direction (N/S/W/E etc.) but for some reason, when I open Google maps, the small triangle that shows direction at my location is an exact 180 degree opposite to the direction I'm pointing to.
Did anyone notice that? Or is there a known issue / solution to that?
Thanks,
Try using gps test from the play store.
Let us know how it goes.
We have that problem with the note 4.

I have use GPS with MAPS to navigate and find absolutely zero issues. Voice navigation as well as graphics absolutely perfect. Admittedly the phone was very laggy at first, but I was using the Samsung connect app to transfer data from my S5 to the S6 Edge. It was also downloading/restoring over 140 apps automatically at that time. Lastly the phone was plugged in charging and it was fairly hot.
I ran the OTA update. Then rooted the phone using the SM-G920T file after soft bricking using the SM-G925Y file and now my phone is nappy. Smooth as glass. Extremely fast bringing up tons of pics in my gallery. Zero complaints, including no scratches that some users seem to be reporting.
Hello,
I tried many gps navigation softwares and in any cases, I had the same issue: when I am stopped, my position on the soft moves around me, maybe 10-20 meters... when I restart, it can return on the right position if the street is alone, but it can restart from an incorrect position, on another street.... Am I the only one to have such issue?

No, I have the same experience.
Did you really close the gps navigation app?
Because, when I kill all gps apps and restart them, the position is good by 5 meters, thats ok for me.
But when I use a navigation app longer the gps seems to lag about 10 to 20 meters from my position.
The behaviour from the gps looks like location smoothing in ingress. And when I play ingress and enable location smoothing,
the gps position act like without location smoothing.
My last phone before, an old xperia t, was more precise and ingress with location smoothing enable act complete different as without.
For me it looks more like a firmware problem with the built-in gps modul.
Cheers
Also since this phone is missing a compass and gyro sensor, it does take some movement in one direction for the phones GPS to realize in which direction it is moving.
ah it may be a reason, I already had this behaviour with the ulephone be touch 2...
I have same problem. GPS no work with wase. Is a new update for the GPS?
