First you need to unlock your bootloader, then flash a kernel and rom that are made with ICS. After that you can install the superuser zip through CWM

Although why you would want to root and not do anything else is a mystery.
Did you mean to say what can you do besides root? In that case, we would need to know what model of phone you have in order to polnt you in the right direction.

I've used Flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
And used the specific menu command to use zergRush.
Remember you need to enable USB debugging in Aplications>Development
Didn't I already answer this? Use superoneclick its easy. Rooting is easy. But why just root when you can do so much more

Even I had the same questions..
I'm on an R800i ..
Android: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
I just got the phone this week, so I'll be happy with the stock rom for a few months..
All I wanna do is root it, so I can remove the bloatware..
(If possible, without having to unlock the bootloader for now)
My last phone was the LG P500 .. and all I needed to root that was run the gingerbreak apk.
Any chance of that working here?
Also, there is a sticky in the dev section for how to root, but that now redirects to a page [WIP] ClockworkMod Recovery - FreeXperia page..
So really confused..
Do I install CWM and then flash that file for rooting?
(is it possible to install cwm without rooting?)
Or do I root it using some other method, and then flash CWM using what that thread says?
Uber confused..
it is not possible to root Rombuild .62 you need to downgrade your rom to.40
dang..
and for downgrading I'd have to use flashtool, right?
wouldn't that format the phone as well?

You didnt say what version xperia play is GSM or CDMA. If your on the CDMA xperia play you cant root on 2.3.4. Only 2.3.3 and below.
But if your bootloader is unlocked just install a custom rom. Most are pre-rooted anyway. Seems like a better way than just rooting.

I mean i cannot be root, not that i cannot install the gin2jellybean. So there is any posibility of being root agin?
If your boot loader is unlocked just flash superuser permissions zip in recovery! Flashing root in recovery is the best most easiest and fastest way to root any phone on any rom !

eeerrr. Do u use xperia s?
To op: yes u can and should flash root (superuser / supersu ) via cwm and u should flash the cwm again. Unless u have unlocked bootloader then u don't need to do that..

[Q] Help rooting my new arc

Hi guys,
My friend just gave me his old xperia arc and I want to root it, unlock bootloader and flash super jellybean 6.0. I have a xperia play running cm10 so I'm not a complete noob. however, I can't seem to be able to root the xperia arc. I tried using flashtool and superone click without anyluck
Some details about the phone that might help
Xperia Arc unlocked
Model LT15a
Running stock 2.3.4
4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware
Do I have to down grade or update the firmware? or would unlocking the bootloader and then flashing a kernel be any faster?
Thanks in advance :good:

tried the eroot thing and the doomlord toolkit but it didn't work :crying: any more ideas?
If you're flashing a custom ROM root is not required. Just flash a custom kernel for your custom ROM that comes with a recovery so you can flash the ROM in recovery.

Did you check USB Debugging,Unknown sources, and go to connectivity as USB connection mode chose Mass storage mode(MSC)
Don't turn off the phone, turn on the application for rooting(eroot) and then connect your phone and just once click on root and what until it finishes.

You can unlock your bootloader, flash a custom kernel using fastboot then flash a custom ROM. Root is not required since the custom ROM is already rooted.
